  • HT1338 preview does not work with mountain lion

I updated my mid 2011 mac mini to mountian lion and i find Preview and all of MS Office 2011 for MAC fails to work
I can cut and paset the logs, but lets astart with assessing whagt does not work with Mountain Lion.

Your profile lists a 2008 MacBook with Snow Leopard.
I installed Windows XP into Bootcamp on my 2009 MacBook Pro (either in Leopard or Snow Leopard, I do not remember which) and I used it with Parallels 6.
When I upgraded it to Lion, even though the Lion Bootcamp will NOT install Windows XP, my Bootcamp (and use by Parallels 7) survived the upgrade.
It may be possible that it will also survive and operate a future upgrade to Mountain Lion.

  • Adobe Flash Player does not work with Safari. What can I do?

    Hi,
I have a MacBook Pro, Retina, 15 inch, late 2013,  2 GHz Intel Core i7, using OS X 10.9.4. I have installed Adobe Flash Player. In my System Preference, in the advanced settings, it is set to install updates also tells me that I have the NPAPI Plug-in (version 14.0.0.145) installed but not the PPAPI Plug-in. Is this the reason why it does not work with Safari (keeps telling me to download the app, which I did but still does not work)? Is there any way I could fix the problem? Please, help.
    Thanks.

If you can't install or update Flash, follow these instructions.
If you have installed the latest version of Flash, please take each of the following steps that you haven't already tried. After each step, relaunch Safari and test. For a "missing plug-in" error, start with Step 8. Back up all data before making any changes.
    Step 1
You might have to log out or restart the computer before a Flash update takes effect.
    Step 2
From the Safari menu bar, select
Safari ▹ Preferences... ▹ Privacy ▹ Remove All Website Data...
and confirm. Close the window. Then select
               ▹ System Preferences… ▹ Flash Player ▹ Advanced
and click Delete All. Close the preference pane.
    Step 3
If you're only having trouble with YouTube videos, log in to YouTube and load this page. You may see a link with the text "Leave the HTML5 Trial." If so, click that link.
    Step 4
    a. If you get a warning of a "blocked" or "outdated" plug-in, then select the Security tab in the Safari preferences window. In the list of plugins on the left, there should be one—and only one—entry for "Adobe Flash Player," showing the same version number that you installed. Select that entry. On the right there will be a list of websites for which you have specifically allowed Flash, if any. It's normal for the list to be empty. Below that is a menu labeled
              When visiting other websites
From that menu, select either Allow or Ask.
    b. If you still get the alerts, then go back to the Flash Player preference pane and select the Advanced tab. Click Check Now. Quit and relaunch the browser.
    c. If the alerts still persist, triple-click anywhere in the line below on this page to select it:
    /System/Library/CoreServices/CoreTypes.bundle/Contents/Resources
Right-click or control-click the highlighted text and select
              Services ▹ Open
from the contextual menu.* A folder should open. Inside it, there should be a file named "XProtect.meta.plist". If that file is missing and you know why it's missing, restore it from a backup or copy it from another Mac running the same version of OS X. Otherwise, reinstall OS X.
*If you don't see the contextual menu item, copy the selected text to the Clipboard by pressing the key combination command-C. In the Finder, select
              Go ▹ Go to Folder...
from the menu bar and paste into the box that opens by pressing command-V. You won't see what you pasted because a line break is included. Press return.
    Step 5
In the Safari preferences window, select the Advanced tab and uncheck the box marked
              Stop plug-ins to save power
    Step 6
Open this folder as in Step 4:
    /Library/Internet Plug-Ins
Delete the following item, or anything with a similar name, if present:
              Flash Player (failing).plugin
You may be prompted for your login password.
    Step 7
Re-download and reinstall Flash. Download it from the domain "get.adobe.com". Don't click a link from any other website, including this one, because you can't trust links. They may be an attempt to trick you into installing malware masquerading as Flash. Type the address into the browser window. Never download a Flash update from anywhere else.
    Step 8
If you get a "missing plug-in" error, select
              Safari ▹ Preferences... ▹ Security
from the Safari menu bar and check the box marked
              Allow (or Enable) plug-ins
    Then click the button marked
              Manage Website Settings...
if present and make sure that the website is not blocked for Flash.
    Step 9
    Select
              Safari ▹ Preferences... ▹ Extensions
from the Safari menu bar. If any extensions are installed, disable them.

  • Falcon 4.0 Allied Forces does not work with Mountain Lion and Nvidia 650M

I have the new Imac with Mountain Lion and the base, built in Nvidia GeForce 650M card.  I bought the Falcon Allied Forces game app from the app store, but the in-game graphics are unusable, pixelated, and generally garbage.  It does not appear there are any patches out there to correct this?  Has anyone had any luck correcting this issue?  From what I can gather, it seems it worked fine on other macs prior to Mountain Lion?  So is this an Apple patch, or a game developer patch that needs to go in place?

bozhoz, I replied to your last post on Falcon 4 contact Amy <[email protected]> and ask her whats going on.  The last time I spoke to her she said it was apples problem!?!?.  However it says the sim works on macs and is in the App store it should run!!!!

  • Miror airplay does not work with Mountain Lion with my MacBook either with my Apple Tv.

Yesterday I installed the Mountain Lion on my computer, it is a MacBook Pro i core 7 and Mirror's airplay function does not deplay on my superior tool bar and it does not work. Does anybody know how to make it work? The apple TV is the last model.

I just installed Mountain Lion today, after finally getting the up-to-date code from Apple.
I have also downloaded and installed the update for Mountain Lion, that fixed Powernap issues.
Maybe it could have something to do with the firmware on the Apple TV? I am currently running version 4.4.4(3330)

  • My printer does not work with mountain lion

I recently upgraded to Mountain Lion and now my HP Officejet Pro 8600 printer does not work.  I downloaded the required driver from the App Store but am still not able to connect.  Is there actually a solution for this or do I need to find a way to downgrade my OS to one that is compatible with my printer?

    From the HP site:
    Compatible operating systems
    Microsoft® Windows® 7, Windows Vista®, Windows® XP (SP3)* or higher (32-bit only): *Supports 32-bit only; Mac OS X v 10.5, v 10.6 or v 10.7; Linux (For more information, see http://hplipopensource.com/hplip-web/index.html)
But then also on the HP site they have drivers for the printer for 10.8. See here http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/softwareCategory?os=4142&lc=en&cc=us&dlc=en&s w_lang=&product=4323659#N194
I would try the driver from HP.

  • Clamshell mode does not work with Mountain Lion.

Installed Mountain Lion on 11" MacBook Air last Friday night.  Now system does not appear to work in Clamshell mode, as it won't wake or connect to external monitor.

Apple Tech Support was very helpful.  The MBA works in clamshell mode next to my monitor now -- but does not work in the Henge Dock.  Henge Dock has been contacted.

  • Gmail does not work with Mountain Lion

Since I installed Mountain Lion, Gmail does not work properly. I still receive emails, but everytime I try to send an email through my gmail account a window opens and says:
"Cannot send message using the server smtp.gmail.com:[email protected]  Sending the message content to the server failed.  select a different outgoing mail servre from the list below or click Try later..."
Any way, the only smtp mail that works is my Icloud email. Exchange server works too.  Yahoo does not work either.
I appreciate any insight to this problem.
    Thanks

You likely have corrupted settings for your  "Outgoing Mail Server (SMTP)" for each of the failed Accounts.  Open Mail>go to Mail's Preferences>Accounts>select an Account in the left column to work on>then set up your Outgoing Mail Server which will INCLUDE resetting up your Password, as its asking you to.  Click on "SMTP Outgoing Mail Server" near the bottom of the Accounts window while your mail account is highlighted in the left hand column.  When you click on SMTP... you will see a drop down box icon offered at the right side of the line.  Click it and then select at the bottom of the the list "Edit SMTP Mail Server".  Fill in the required settings for your ISP mail account using their recommended settings.

Trash preferences and repair permissions in Disk Utility.
If that doesn't free Share up I'd drag app to trash, reinstall it and run repair permissions again.
    Good luck.

BTW, not that it matters a lot, but this is the Compressor forum.

  • Vlc does not work with mountain lion - help

running a 2009 macbook pro and upgraded to mountain lion.  now VLC player will not load without X11 upgrade?!? don't know what this is or what it will do to my mac.  My friend's 2011 Macbook Pro upgraded to mountain lion without a hitch but i'm running into problems all the time.
    Help!  Advice needed!

You do not need XQuartz to run the 64-bit Intel version of VLC 2.03 on Mountain Lion. Running it here right now and no XQuartz installed. I have never needed X11 to run VLC on OS X since 10.6.
However, you may need a 32/64-bit binary of VLC for that 2009 vintage cpu.
Remove your present copy of VLC and then fetch another copy here.
    Did this help?

Thank-you for heads up, so what your saying is all my online threw Safari is 100% protected no need for any protection other than this GateKeeper. Or is that just for my programs.
GateKeeper is just one of the anti-malware protection features of Mountain Lion. There are others. Mountain Lion actually includes its own malware scanner too. The difference is that it doesn't check for all the millions of Windows viruses. Just keep your software updated. Mountain Lion should do that automatically.
In the case of spam my internet provide i have email address threw them and even after turning on their filter I continue to get spam, so that why I been asking. I've been told of one today called SpamSieve.
SPAM is more difficult. I use SpamSieve and highly recommend it.

  • Appleworks does not work on Mountain Lion

Help please?  I downloaded Mountain Lion on my 2.4 GHz Intel Core Duo 2 laptop and now I cannot use Appleworks!  It says that I cannot open it because Power PC applications are no longer supported.  I had Appleworks 6 on Lion before I swtiched?  How can I get Appleworks back?

You can't. And AppleWorks can't run on Lion, either.
Buy an external drive and install Snow Leopard and AppleWorks on it. Switch the start up drive when you need the old app.

  • HT4848 Does not work with Mountain Lion (KB says it will).

    What am I missing?

I hate how Apple has implemented the question box with its KBs, as it welcomes you to ask questions but besides the KB article number it doesnt offer details on what you're looking at, making it a bit difficult to follow up and help you out.
My guess here is the recovery disk assistant isnt working for you. What errors or other issues do you see when you try to use it?
