Application module creation for (web) services

Hello,
We are running into stack overflows from ADF BC (BC4J) with oracle.jbo.client.Configuration.createRootApplicationModule. We want to make sure we're doing this right.
If you have data bound services (e.g. product lookup) and you don't want to put your operation/exposed method in the application module Impl class for clear seperation (unlike ADF toy store sample), is it appropriate to:
1. Create a Java service class that you will expose as J2EE web service
2. The method to be exposed will call Configuration.createRootApplicationModule to checkout an app module from pool.
3. Find the view object, run the query, get the row.
4. Configuration.releaseRootApplicationModule to check it back in.
Please share your best practices and recommended approach with us.
Thanks,
- Zak

I'd recommend using our built-in feature for exposing an application module class as a J2EE web service. This will code-generate a class for you that does the AM access correctly.

  • Exception while exposing Application Module Methods as Web Service

    Hello Everyone,
    I am working on Jdeveloper 11.1.1.3.0 version and tried to expose one method of application module as web service. To do this, i used "Service Interface" tab of Application module within Jdeveloper and Jdeveloper had generated all interfaces, stubs, code for the Session bean required for web service. I am now trying to "Test Web Service" from the implementation class generated then i am getting this error in Weblogic deployment. Any help/pointers would be highly appreciated.
    I used another installation of Jdeveloper same version at my collegues desktop but getting the same error. Not sure, if this version of Jdeveloper is having issue in exposing application module as web service. I think that database related exception can be ignored as no database call is being made by the application.

    Hi Frank,
    This is the service impl class TerritoryProposalPublicServiceImpl for our product's application module "TerritoryProposalPublicServiceAM".
    I added a new service method in this AM. I am using ServiceFactory class to call this method "findProposals()", first time when i run the code it invokes the service correctly, second time it fails throwing this errors.
    I found the place where it is getting exception, these are all frame works classes
    ServiceImpl.invokeCustom() -> calls acquireResources() method -> Calls ServiceConfiguration.getRootApplicationModule(this.getApplicationModuleDefName(), this.getConfigurationName()); -> Calls getApplicationModule()
    Exception is thrown from the line in bold
    Properties props = SDOValueStoreHelper.INSTANCE.getAppModuleSessionProperties();
    props.put(ServiceSessionImpl.SESSION_APPMODULE_NAME, pool.getName());
    props.put(ServiceSessionImpl.SESSION_TRANSACTION_ID, id);
    SessionCookie sess = pool.findOrCreateSessionCookie(id, id, props);
    sess.setEnvInfoProvider(envInfo);
    SDOValueStoreHelper.INSTANCE.setSessionEnv(sess);
    sess.setEnvironment(ServiceSessionImpl.SESSION_APPMODULE_NAME, pool.getName());
    sess.setEnvironment(ServiceSessionImpl.SESSION_TRANSACTION_ID, id);
    appModule = sess.useApplicationModule();
    //bug9215734,
    appModule.getTransaction().setBundledExceptionMode(true);
    Please see if you can figure out why sess.useApplicationModule() not able to find application module.

  • Using existing Application Modules Entities in web service provider

    Hi, I want to implement a web service provider having a WSDL file and using JAXWS.
    Is it possible to use in input methods of the service, an Application Module or Entities or View Objects that exist in a separate project.
    I want to perform database operations and facilitate transactions using existing ORM mapping of ADF.
    Thanks,
    Ilias Stavrakis

    Yes, it is possible, but you have to checkout and release the ApplicationModules manually. Use the method <tt>Configuration.createRootApplicationModule(...)</tt> of the class <tt>oracle.jbo.client.Configuration</tt> to checkout modules, and use the method <tt>Configuration.releaseRootApplicationModule(...)</tt> to release it back to the AM pool at the end of processing.
    See this blog entry http://jobinesh.blogspot.com/2010/04/invoking-applicationmodule-from-servlet.html despite the fact that it is not directly related to Web services.

  • How to set up User id and Password for Web services or authentication

    Hi ,
    I am new to web services . I have created a new Web service in SAP , and while creating Service defination , set the Authentication as LOW for server proxy .Then created End-point in SOAMANAGER with USREID/PWS requried .This WSDL i am planning to share with Third party to call from Java application.
    But my web service checks for authorization which needs to be set up to allow the user id and pws .
    So question is how do i pass my user id and pws as i do not see this WSDL with User id and pws option displayed for me when i test this using SOAP UI .I saw some of WSDL with tag "AuthHeader" with user id and pws tags in them .So how could i get them ?
    Or requirement is that my Third party should be able to access my Web service in PRD and also be able to have authorization to auth object embedded in FM inside service defination .So how is this acheived ?
    Thanks,
    Sitaraman

    Hi,
    After creation of WSDL , you will get URL lkie http://idessapdev.ad.infosys.com:8000/index.html.
    For this URL your third party system need sto add id and pwd for accessing like http://idessapdev.ad.infosys.com:8000/index.html&userid = 111&pwd= wwgw.
    this is not the exact syntax. you can check with your third party system for this URL.

  • How to keep multiple function modules under one Web service

    Hi Experts,
    I have Three RFC function modules and i need to create one web service for these three RFC function modules. I know How to crearte a web service for one function module.
    please suggest me How to keep multiple function modules under one Web service.
    Thanks in advance
    Lakshminarayana

    Hi Lakshmi,
    The best way to do it is to assign all the three RFC Enabled FM's to one function group. Later on the top menu in Utilities you get an option to Create a Webservice from a Function Group.
    You can create one single Webservice using all the the 3 FM's.
    I hope this helps.
    Thanks,
    Manu

  • Invalid Content Type Error for Web Service

    Hi Experts,
    We have a XI / PI Web Service, and have created an Adaptive Web Service Model for the same. For using this web service model, we have created a HTTP destination of type WSDL.
    This configuration works great in our development and consolidation server.
    While working with our production server, with all the settings same as consolidation server, the following error is generated for Web Service call. using the AWS model
    java.io.IOException: Invalid content type while requesting http://<host>:<port>/webdynpro/resources/<application_package>/guicall.wsdl. Expected Content-type: text/xml, received Content-type: content/unknown, used user to connect: null
    The HTTP destination address is the one specified in bold above.
    Also, in later part of the stack trace we are bale to see this error:
    com.sap.tc.webdynpro.model.webservice.exception.WSModelRuntimeException: Exception on creation of service metadata for WS metadata destination
    Please guide us on this issue.
    Best Regards,
    Alka.

    Hi Alka,
    How did you configure the Webservice Destinations in Visual Admin for a webservice explosed by XI system.
    I mean what was the URL specified, did you specify XI SYSTEM userid password ???
    How was the webservice published to inspection.wsil in XI system ??

  • Does Websphere(WAS) V3.5 has support for web services ??

    Hi all,
    Please let me know whether Websphere Application Server V3.5 supports Web Services. If any one has used it for V3.5 then please let me know.
    Thanks
    -Satyendra

    I suppose not, as out of the box.
    If you look into the classpath and the lib directories, there are no traces of any support for Web-Services.
    However, you can set up the environment to do so, It seems to be easy to handle.
    Cheers, and keep posting your progress.

  • XML really that crucial for Web Services?

    No doubt Web Services are here to stay. I've tried to learn about them by reading different sites on the internet. But so far, I've only been able to read positive praises of XML. Such as the buck-a-car system. However, I'm interested in some of the negatives of XML. I want to know where XML will NOT work and is discouraged. Only be considering the negatives and limitations can I understand whether XML is appropriate for my system. (e.g., is XML good for database-to-database communications?)
    When I look at the average XML file, there is so much overhead such as the DTD and descriptive XML tags. If one XML file was used to store a lot of information, it would be acceptable. But if I were to say, write a chat program, it doesn't seem wise to send an XML file for each sentence/letter typed.
    And if I wanted to synchronize two databases through the internet, wouldn't it be faster to just send each record as a stream of bytes and have the other database parse that? Instead of converting the record to XML and back.
    Or if I was communicating between the server and an applet, should I convert all requests into XML even though I am well aware of the format of the applet?
    I personally see XML being used in only a small number of applications such as an initial handshaking process before communications.
    I know it must be because I have a lack of understanding. If anyone has comments or even agrees, your feedback is more than welcome.

    Well of course XML is crucial for Web Services, because the messages they pass back and forth are in XML format. (Of course that's only for the current buzzword "Web Services", some of us have been producing Web Services where the messages are in e-mail format for years now.) You're right, using XML for everything is stupid. And if you control both ends of the conversation, you can talk in any language you like, and you probably should. But if you want to talk to large numbers of people, and you don't want to limit what kind of data you might send, then you need a standard framework to do that, and XML is it. That doesn't mean that XML will replace SMTP or any other existing standard format, just that it's likely to be widely used in the future for sending generalized data between systems.

  • XI for Web Services

    Hi experts,
    I want some guidance on the following:-
    1) How can we implement XI with SAP SCEM(Supply Chain Event Management) and SAP Internet sales.
    2)our client wants to get SAP XI involved for Web services. He wants that his customers should be able to access data through web portal . the data can be dynamic or static . How to go about it?
    3)How XI can be integrated with SAP mobile applications?
    Regards
    Saras Jain

    Hi,
    <i>1) How can we implement XI with SAP SCEM(Supply Chain Event Management) and SAP Internet sales.</i>
    You can use SAP XI contents for SAP SCEM in which you will find almost all the interfaces for implementing the integration of SCEM.
    <i>2)our client wants to get SAP XI involved for Web services. He wants that his customers should be able to access data through web portal . the data can be dynamic or static . How to go about it?</i>
    Yes, you can use SAP XI as a middleware to expose SAP functionality as a webservice. For more details about the SCEM contents and how Enterprise service works refer to the below link
    https://www.sdn.sap.com/irj/sdn/explore-es
    <i>3)How XI can be integrated with SAP mobile applications?</i>
    SAP XI is a middleware so it provides the integration for any of the platform it could be SAP MAP or it could be RFID or any other third party tool

  • Looking for Web Services Toolkits

    I'm completely new to Web Services and I need to build client applications for some existing web services and I have some questions:
    1) I have heard that things called "toolkits" are what I need to create and run client applications for web services. Is this correct?
    2) Can anyone tell me some of the more common and reliable toolkits?
    Thanks.

    EasyWebservice at http://www.acelet.com/super/SuperWebservice/index.html
    You can get all available services from WSDL and invoke them by clicking on Swing windows. You can export them and schedule the task using SuperScheduler at http://www.acelet.com/super/SuperScheduler/index.html or SuperWatchdog at http://www.acelet.com/super/SuperWatchdog/index.html.

  • Design Pattern For Web Services.

    I tried asking siomilar questions in WebService Forum but didn'y got any replies.
    Can anybody tell me what should be the Design for Web Services.
    I have understanding that there can be just 1 Interface/Implementation class for each Web Service, and which will have 1 end point.So for evry such Interface we will have to have 1 Web Service.
    Can someone please clarify wheather I'm correct or not ?
    I guess that If my application has many Interfaces and I have to expose the application as Web Service.Then I will have to expose all methods from one Interface and then expose this new Interface as Web Service.
    Is this how WS will work.
    Any pointers to design PATTERNS for Web Service will be highly appreciated.
    Thanks
    Rahul

    I don't know if anyone has documented new patterns specifically aimed at web services but the old ones definitely apply. Like you were alluding to, there is a letter-envelope decoupling of interface and implementation with the XML WSDL interface and coded implementation.
