Applications crash when I try to save anything

Hi all,
So whenever i try to save anything in any application the application crashes and I have to force quit to use the application again. I have left them for 10 mins at a time and they don't come out of their funk.

I have an 2010 iMac 16GB RAM, I cant tell you more because my 'About This Mac' will not open!
Applications I have recently tried:
Google Chrome
Grab
Microsoft Excel 2011

This may be a red herring, but there have been many threads on here where some iMac's with 16gb of RAM have started to play up - kernel panics, random shutdowns spring to mind. Have you added RAM recently?
The solution has been to either replace the RAM with chips from particular manufacturers. The workround is to drop down to 12gb RAM.
As I say, this may not be the solution but I thought it worth a mention.

If the crashing happens when placing from/saving to new location with Yosemite, you maybe able to get round it by using the Adobe Dialog instead of the OS Dialog in the Place window (similarly for Save As in the Save As window).
If crashing happens when moving objects, the issue may be caused by the Chrome Pushbullet extension, see this post #3 by Matt with the solution,

Or, when issues start to appear in general you may try the list.
The following is a general list of things you may try when the issue is not in a specific file, and when it is not caused by issues with opening a file from external media. You may have tried/done some of them already; 1) and 2) are the easy ones for temporary strangenesses, and 3) and 4) are specifically aimed at possibly corrupt preferences); 5) is a list in itself, and 6) is the last resort.
If possible/applicable, you should save current artwork first, of course.
1) Close down Illy and open again;
2) Restart the computer (you may do that up to at least 5 times);
3) Close down Illy and press Ctrl+Alt+Shift/Cmd+Option+Shift during startup (easy but irreversible);
4) Move the folder (follow the link with that name) with Illy closed (more tedious but also more thorough and reversible), for CS3 - CC you may find the folder here:

5) Look through and try out the relevant among the Other options (follow the link with that name, Item 7) is a list of usual suspects among other applications that may disturb and confuse Illy, Item 15) applies to CC, CS6, and maybe CS5);

Apparently some are reporting that this causes the older PowerPC (PPC) applications that are supported in 10.6 via 'Rosetta' to crash upon attempting to open/save/print using any dialog box, or fail in other similar ways such as simply not printing or quitting, or freezing/hanging/crashing of the application.
I have read of some companies that have indeed submitted proper bug reports to Apple, but that is not a guarantee of a bug-fix being issued.

If you are unsure if you are still using PowerPC apps, if the application is currently running, look under the 'Activity Monitior' (in Applications -> Utilities), or alternatively you could check in the System Profiler, Applications. Check the column "Type".
Here is a fairly simple way you can restore you system and restore you applications functionality again, if you don't have a recent clone or good Time Machine backup that you can restore from. If you do, restore from your backup prior to having installed the Security Update 2012-001.

If you are restoring a backup made by a Mac to the same Mac
With your backup drive connected, start up your Mac from the Lion recovery partition (Command-R at startup) or Mac OS X v10.6 installation disc. Then use the "Restore From Time Machine Backup" utility. Select the backup prior to your issues, and it will be restored back to the state it was in at that time.
If you can't easily restore from a backup, you can instead do the following:
- You first start by reinstalling your OS X 10.6.x, this will preserve all your user data, your applications, no worries there.
- Then install the Mac OS X 10.6.8 Update Combo v1.1 (links provided below)
- Make sure you're printers are showing up correctly in your system preferences, if not, re-add the printers
- Then finally, run the Apple Software Update (by pulling down the Apple Menu), and install any and all remaining updates, except do not then re-install the Security Update 2012-001. It is possible that you may have to reboot after installing some of the updates, and you may even need to run it a 2nd time to make sure that you've got all updates, except NOT the Security Update 2012-001.

Quicktime Pro crashes when I try to save movies

I just bought a new macbook pro yesterday. Upgraded from Quicktime 7 with registration key to QTPro for sole purposes of converting my flip camcorder files from AVI to something recognizable in IMOVIE '08 (apple doesn't seem to support AVI???).
I am now able to open AVI in QTpro, but it crashes when I try to save or save as or anything really.

Could be many things, we should start with this for safety...
"Try Disk Utility
1. Insert the Mac OS X Install disc that came with your computer, then restart the computer while holding the C key.
2. When your computer finishes starting up from the disc, choose Disk Utility from the Installer menu. (In Mac OS X 10.4 or later, you must select your language first.)
*Important: Do not click Continue in the first screen of the Installer. If you do, you must restart from the disc again to access Disk Utility.*
3. Click the First Aid tab.
4. Click the disclosure triangle to the left of the hard drive icon to display the names of your hard disk volumes and partitions.
5. Select your Mac OS X volume.
6. Click Repair. Disk Utility checks and repairs the disk."

Then Safe Boot from the HD, (holding Shift key down at bootup), run Disk Utility in Applications>Utilities, then highlight your drive, click on Repair Permissions, reboot when it completes.

Various folders. It usually allows me to re-save older files, but a new save is practically impossible to accomplish. I tried Reducing Transparency, as suggested in earlier posts to no avail. Also, when I drag an eps icon into Illustrator, it asks me if I want to retain the 9-slice scaling options for symbols — not sure what that means. Tried that both ways, with no results. Just had it crash on me 8 times this evening!

WHY MUSE 2014.3 crashes when I try to SAVE or SAVE AS ?

MUSE has never failed before to me ... just after update to 2014.3 it crashes when I try to SAVE or SAVE AS .. it freezes and I have to FORCE QUIT from MUSE.
This site is already LIVE and need to make some updates for today .. I've emailed to [email protected] attaching the screenshot and the MUSE FILE.
Their answer is not clear ... I don't know if they will do something or I should do something in addition to what I sent ... PLEASE I have a compromise with my client and feel totally unsupported by you.

I had something similar happen to me yesterday and after contacting Adobe Support, I had to send in my file so they could repair it. There are several other cases of issues when downloading the update, uploading files, etc. If you can open the file inside the new 2014.3 update, make changes, but cannot save or upload to FTP, etc...it's probably a file error issue that occurred after the 2014.3 update. The tech told me to downgrade back to the previous version for the time being so that I can still work and update the website. That requires an older file that was not converted after the update though. Hopefully you back up your muse files.
To downgrade and work around this, uninstall the Muse app. Delete preferences. Go back to the CC panel/dashboard and install the previous 2014.2.1 version at the bottom (you'll have to click on the little arrow/gear icon just above the muse install button to select "Previous Version."
This worked for me. Hope it helps

FCPX keeps crashing when I try to do anything on the timeline. A render has frozen, which has made the image stick (no longer a moving image).
I've tried to copy the good section (to start a new project with) but it crashes then too. I have plenty opf processing and HD space.

Did you apply the security update to this Mac & not the others? If you did, check Software Update again. Apple has released an updated security update. This has fixed the problems caused by the first version.

Have you tried starting Firefox in Safe Mode? Hold down "shift" while Firefox is starting up. If the crash doesn't happen in Safe Mode, you should read [[Troubleshooting extensions and themes]].

Launch the Console application in any of the following ways:
☞ Enter the first few letters of its name into a Spotlight search. Select it in the results (it should be at the top.)
☞ In the Finder, select Go ▹ Utilities from the menu bar, or press the key combination shift-command-U. The application is in the folder that opens.
☞ Open LaunchPad. Click Utilities, then Console in the icon grid.
Step 1
Make sure the title of the Console window is All Messages. If it isn't, select All Messages from the SYSTEM LOG QUERIES menu on the left. If you don't see that menu, select
View ▹ Show Log List
from the menu bar.
Enter the name of the crashed application or process in the Filter text field. Select the messages from the time of the last crash, if any. Copy them to the Clipboard by pressing the key combination command-C. Paste into a reply to this message (command-V).
When posting a log extract, be selective. In most cases, a few dozen lines are more than enough.
Please do not indiscriminately dump thousands of lines from the log into this discussion.
Important: Some private information, such as your name, may appear in the log. Anonymize before posting.

In the Console window, look under User Diagnostic Reports (not "Diagnostic and Usage Messages") for crash reports related to the crashed process. Crashes when I try to do anything

I can open successfully but when I try to do anything it crashes immediately. I am on Yosemite 10.10.2. Also when it crashes it sends an error report and pops up with a screen that says

I have never had the issue myself, only seen these fixes for what might (have) be(en) the same as the one you are experiencing, so I have no further information.
These strange crash cases are more or less guesswork and often solved by lucky tries, I am afraid.
Have things worked after your upgrading to Yosemite? If not, it may be worth reinstalling, preferably in the full three step way (see 6) below), and it may be worth updating drivers (including Wacom). Yosemite issues fill many threads here.
If no brighter suggestions appear, you may also try the list:

All applications crashes when i try to print out.

When i try to print out anything either its from word, text edit, safari etc. Then the application juses hangs and crashes. Even when i try to save the print as a PDF it still crash and burn.
i get this error msg. Anyone at all who knows whats happening and how i can fix this without Reinstall evrything ( its not an option )

After some time i finaly got an solution From OKi.
Even though this is a netwerk printer based on ipp service from mac.
Solution
Step 1 Set up printer as LPD printer with correct ip and use post script driver
Step 2 Print out test page ( to se if it works )
Step 3 Go into preference/options screen for the printer and set up the real driver, remember to download newest version.

OS 10.3.7 Applications Crash when I do a "save "

Applications crash when I save documents, so I always save as, and make the file name alittle different. I have fixed and verified permissions, I have trashed preferences, anything else I can do?? this is really getting annoying!

I agree with Roam -- use the new one for a while. Run all your apps to make sure things are cool and work as you desire. In a few months, once you've grown accustomed to the new account, it will be safe to wipe out the old.
It sounds like there was some corruption in the old account (caches? perms? who knows?) Often these problems can be solved at a more granular level, but if the big and easy answer works, hey, go with that.
