Applications Quit when trying to print on HP LaserJet 3055 All-in-one

Just upgraded from 10.3.9 to 10.4.11 and my applications quit when I try to print on my HP printer which is on a local network. (I can't scan either) I can still print on my USB Epson printer. I have uninstalled and installed the printer software. Everything worked fine on 10.3. I have repaired permissions. What should I do next?

Hi Bossless,
Have you checked for the latest drivers on HP's site, their CDs generally come with outdated Drivers, and complicated by the fact that an early 10.4 Driver may not work with 10.4.11
Many hp Drivers need to be uninstalled by hand before installing a newer version, look for directions on the net for that.
Might try these two...

First real problem I have ever had with Apple software. When trying to print a web page in Safari the program quits. Then tried to print an Excel (Office 2004) spreadaheet and the same thing. So it is happening in native and Rosetta. Printer is HP LaserJet 1012 attached to an AirPort Extreme. All other Macs in the house have no problems printing. Any thoughts?
    Thanks

I've got a similar problem to the one you answered about inability to print- applications just closing ('unexpectedly closed'). I have reinstalled my wireless printer multiple times, still have programs closing when I try to print (Mail, any type of Browser-Safari, Camino, Netscape, Opera). (No problems with printing on the 2 iBooks & iMac on the network.) I've been on the phone with Apple Tech support- they recommended I do an 'Archive & Reinstall'- no help. I even did a clean install (thinking there was a problem with my migration settings from my old iBook)- still same problem. Any hints? Thanks.

  • SOME applications quit when trying to print - SmartPrint plugin problem

most aplications crash as soon as I go to print - message reads: "_____ quit unexpectedly while using the SmartPrint plugin" I have reinstalled drivers for printers and restarted. it only does this on 1 user account! the other account on this computer is fine

Try repairing permissions and make sure that account has the katest drivers.

  • All applications unexpectedly quit when trying to print

I recently upgraded my wife's mini from Tiger to 10.5.2. Now when trying to print a document, the pages appear to be scrolling to the printer correctly, then there is an "unexpectedly quit" message.
I've tried repairing permissions. Any suggestions on what else to try?

Thanks - I just got the latest version of Disk Warrior, so I decided to run it. A rebuild of the directory seemed to solve this problem as well as a couple of others.

  • Applications crashes when trying to print

A number of applications such as iwork,PDF, etc. crashes when trying to print, I can print test pages and use other printer utilities functions on my HP 970 CXI.
Creating new printer queue had no effect can any one suggest a solution. Thanks

    DariusT,
This may sound elementary but I turn off all print spoolers - print monitoring, background printing, etc. - as the very first test. This eliminates a whole class of issues, including some memory related questions.
The version of the operating system can also be a factor. If you turn off the printer, delete laserwriter 8 preferences, turn on the printer, select the printer in chooser and try printing again you may solve some problems.
You posted your question in the old folks home. Are you using an old computer? An iBook G4 processor is as new as a Mac Mini so I am assuming that this is a question that predates OS X. If this is an OS X printing problem, we need to shift mental gears or you may want to post your query again in a more modern forum. Post back will more details and we will try and help out.

  • Applications crash when trying to print?

I recently had to restore my Macbook pro (Mid2010) from a time machine backup because of a weird mouse bug that came from out of nowhere (restoring it fixed the mouse bug so I am assuming that it was some corrupted file). Since I restored it, I have not been able to print anything. Every time start my comp up, I get this message:
When I click install, it beging the normal instalation sequence but then this message comes up:
Once i hit ok, the window closes.
Whenever I try to print, the application I was trying to print from freezes and no print options window comes up. The more unsettling part of all this is that system preferences also freezes up when I try to look at the "printers & scanners" section so I can't even try and reinstali any drivers or even look at what might be the problem. I have updated all my my software, repaired my disk (disk utility in recovery mode), repaired disk permissions (disk utility), and tried installing my printer (HP Photosmart C4780) driver software directly from the developer. None of these have helped.
Any advice/suggestions would be greatly appreciated!

Software Update was unavilable a couple of days back for about 24 hours but is back now. Have you tried adding the printer again recently?

  • Applications Unexpectedly Quit when trying to print

I am trying to print from a iMac G4800 to a Lexmark E322(usb). It's running 10.4.9 and am current on updates but everytime you try to print (word, email, text edit) the application unexpectedly quits.
I've repaired permissions and have updated the Lexmark driver too.
Any ideas on what else I can try? Our school nurse uses this computer and needs to print out many forms and logs, etc. each day.
    Thanks!

Try Reset Printing System, a menu choice in Printer Setup, then restart the Mac, then Add the printer again and try it.

  • Programs quit when trying to print.

I just installed Mac OS 10.4.10 on my Powermac G4, I used to have Mac OS 10.3.9. After I installed the operating system I tried to print something from Safari 3 BETA. When I clicked print the whole program quit. I thought it was a problem with safari so I downloaded firefox. I tried to print again in firefox and the same thing happened, it just quit. I have tried printing in many different programs and every time the program just quits. I have reset the printers and reset the printer setup utility and I have reinstalled both printers. I can't even get to the print options page in the programs. I click "File" the I click "Print" and the program quits. I have a HP Laserjet P2015 printer that is networked and a HP PSC 750 that is attached with usb. I was able to print in Mac OS 10.3.9 but I can't now.

The first rule in troubleshooting is "fix what you last changed, first." I think you have a problem with your OS X install. First thing to try - download the 10.4.10 updater and re-update. Next try Printer Setup Repair from www.fixamac.net.
If those don't help, I suggest reinstalling OS X using the Archive & Install option in the installer.

  • CS3 - Illustrator and InDesign quits when trying to print

    Hi.
I have posted this on the Illustrator forum as well.
I have just bought a new iMac i7 running OSX 10.7.2. I have reinstalled my version of CS3 and I can open all elements - Illustrator, Photoshop and InDesign.
The problem I am having is that Illustrator and InDesign quit when I try to print. It happens when I use 'command P' and when I go through the file menu. Photoshop doesn't quit when printing.
I can make PDFs of the files and I can print those (although sometimes the PDF won't print through my RIP software).
OS is updated to the latest version. All printer software and RIP is the latest version. InDesign also quit a couple of thimes when I was just selecting a line of type. i
It did it a few times when selecting the same line. I restarted the Mac and all seems OK with that now but I still can't print.
Can anyone shed any light onto this? I tried Adobe and they don't support CS3 any more and their Technical Department suggetsed I try this forum.
I don't want the expense of upgrading my CS3 at the moment.
    Thanks
    Roger

I have had a reply on the Illustrator forum and it has worked for me.

  • Applications crashing when trying to print

    I have two multi function printers which are;
    (1) Canon Pixma MP600 (9 months old) and (2) Epson Stylus Photo RX510. (only 3 years old)
Each time I try to print from various applications they crash and I get the usual "the application quit unexpectedly............." I have tried connecting into my computers directly via usb cables but still no success. The reports always show something along the lines that the Exception Type is
    either "EXEBADACCESS (SIGSEGV) or (SIGBUS)
followed by Exception Codes KERNPROTECTIONFAILURE at 0x0000000000000038 or
KERNINVALIDADDRESS at 0x0000000000015a91000 or something similar.
I have searched for the updated drivers and have spoken to Epson all to no avail. I will speak to Canon tomorrow.
Does any one have an idea of what is causing these failures please? or can offer advise.

    Hi John,
I have now been able to get both my printers up and working by obtaining the latest
driver from Canon. The pop-up I kept getting said " The problem may have been caused by the
    BJPDELocalizedString plug-in"
As soon as I installed mp600osxpd583ej7.dmg this printer driver, all came good.
Having two computers I may have missed installing the updated on my MBpro.
I have tried to post the crash log using text editor, but i'm not sure it will come thru

  • Mail and textedit unexpectedly quit when trying to print anything.

I'm trying to print an email but the stupid applications just quit with no dialog box afterwards. What gives?

Try Reset Printing System, a menu choice in Printer Setup, then restart the Mac, then Add the printer again and try it.

  • Imovie application quits when trying to add audio

when trying to drag audio into imovie, application automatically quits. If anyone can help, it's greatly appreciated.

I'm running out of ideas but I assume the music plays in iTunes and your iTunes is the iLife5 rather than earlier. When you click on audio at the clips pane (or whatever it is called) I presume you can access the full iTunes library. If you cannot, you have an iLife problem. Then does the crash come from all your tunes.
Before all this you could run Mac Sweeper which you will find (free download) on http://mac.softpedia.com/get/System-Utilities/Mac-Sweeper.shtml
    it has good help messages.
    1) Carry out all the optimize options the daily weekly and monthly
    2) Repair permissions
    3) Update prebindings
    4) under
    b clean,
empty system caches and log files.
Some people find its authorize dialogue misleading it is just asking you to enter the system password to allow it to perform the scripts.

  • Acrobat XI Quits When Trying To Print

Recently installed several Adobe products from the Creative Cloud onto my Snow Leopard Mac and whenever I try to print something from Acrobat, it quits. There's a bug in there somewhere but I have no idea how to rectify the situation and use the product to print PDFs. I had to revert to an earlier version yesterday in order to print something. Thoughts?

Install version 1.1 of the Security Update 2012-001. BTW, if you're running Mac OS X 10.6, you have an Intel Mac, not a G5.

  • Apps quit when trying to print

i can not print from any of my applications. i have repaired my disk permissions with no success. i do not know what to do. i have checked the boards but nothing is helping. i am running 10.4.10 and using a canon multifunction printer mp780. i have printed before, so i do not know what the issue is. if it is because of the update i will b e very upset at mr jobs. i thought that the mac was to be problem free -that is why i bought one.

    ah - ha!
Basically - because I had just upgraded to the intel based macbook pro from my pb G4, the transfer of all my settings didn't seem to carry over correctly. I'm not sure if you were in the same situation or not...
Go here for instructions to reset all of your printer set up.
    http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=301185
You will have to go to system preferences after you reset, and re-add in the printer. I did so, and I'm able to print now. I hope this works for you.

  • Purchased Lion two weeks ago Photoshop unexpectedly quits when trying to print. Any ideas?

All suggestions are welcome - please help!

Our Office Manager was having this issue, not with printing, but with crashing in general. We finally did a clean install, installed PS (v CS5), and all the issues went away.
Did you install over the existing software, or did you do a fresh install?
