Apps hang when I try to delete them

The apps wobble, but hang when I try to delete them. Then, the ipad mini restarts. Moreover, I am unable to access certain apps, am unable to download or update apps. I have checked 'deleting apps' under settings, but it doesn't work.
Help please?

I have absolutely no idea what you are talking about. "Deleting apps" is a setting that you can enable in restrictions that prevents someone from deleting apps.
Or do you mean that you cannot delete apps in Settings>General>Usage>Storage>Show all apps. Tap the app that you want to delete and then tap Delete App in the next screen. If you haven't tried that, give it a whirl and see If that works.
There are two basic troubleshooting steps that you can perform that might help. Reset all settings and reset your iPad.
Settings>General>Reset>Reset All Settings. No data will be lost but all of your device settings will have to be entered again.
Reset the iPad by holding down on the sleep and home buttons at the same time for about 10 seconds until the Apple Logo appears on the screen.

  • Apps closing when I try to open them?

I just got my iPod touch 4th generation the other day and I have a habit of turning it off when I'm not using it (from owning previous versions of iPods) and when I turn it on and try to launch the few apps I downloaded (Pandora Radio [free], SoundHound [free], Y! Messenger [free], Nook [free] and Facebook [free]) and when I try to activate them they close down before fully loading. I have tried turning my iPod off and on again 3 times and still they won't work...does anyone know what's wrong?

For some reason downloading another free app from the App store usually resolves this issue.  Go ahead and give that a shot.

  • Apps get stucked when i try to delete them?

Whenever i try to delete an app by holding the icon and waiting for the apps to start jiggle then hit the X button, it does nothing but get stuck. After a while it gets back to normal and the app is still there. I know i can delete them by going in Settings - Usage and look for the app but that's not the point. I've never had this problem. It started when i updated my software to 5.0. It ****** me off cuz most of the games are still in Game Center can't get rid of them and whenever i redownload them it takes me back where i have left off. Any ideas?

  • App hangs when I try to upload pix from my camera

I have iPhoto 11 on a MacBook Pro, vintage 2006, running OS 10.6.8.   Launch is OK but the dreaded rotating rainbow appears when I try to upload photos from my camera.  I can see them all with Preview so I know they are on the camera.  I have reinstalled iPhoto, successfully, from the iLife disk and the problem remains.  I have checked the hard disk with Disk Utility and had it repair the permissions.  No change.  Suggestions?

    As a Test:
Hold down the option (or alt) key and launch iPhoto. From the resulting menu select 'Create Library'
Import a few pics into this new, blank library. Is the Problem repeated there?
    Post back with the result.

  • My gmail is forwarded to my "mail" on my Mac.  I now have over 14000 emails in my "all mail" in gmail on my mac.  When I try to delete them, they keep coming back.  They are not on the gmail server any longer either.

My gmail is forwarded to my Mail on my Mac.  I now have over 14000 emails in the gmail "mailbox" because I can not delete them.  When I do, they just come back.  Frustrated ...

    This is a Gmail issue.
It is not possible to delete something from Gmail over IMAP: Gmail doesn't let you do this.  When you "delete" something from Mail, it "deletes" it from the Mac.  However, if you show the "All Mail" folder, you will see ALL your email in Gmail.
There are 2 solutions to this:
    1)  If you go to your Gmail web account, you can select which Gmail labels are shown over IMAP.  You should disable "All Mail" so you won't see the folder in Mail.
    2)  From the Gmail web interface, you can actually permanently delete emails.  Go ahead and delete them there and they will be gone forever from Gmail, and from Mail.
This is not something Apple can address.  It's how Gmail implements IMAP, which is totally nonstandard.

  • All CS1 apps quit when I try to launch them.

    Hello
I have been told by Adobe that they cannot provide any direct assistance to me. I have tried to explain to them that I don't believe I have a technical problem with the suite, as I think it may be a licensing issue. The problem I am having is that whenever I try to launch one of the CS1 apps, I get the following error message,
b "The application (...) CS quit unexpectedly. Mac OS X and other applications are not affected.
b Click Relaunch to launch the application again. Click Report to see more details or send a
    b report to Apple."
My system is a Dual 2GHz PowerPC G5. I have 3.5GB of RAM. The Creative Suite is installed in the Applications Folder of my startup drive, which is the original 160GB drive. I also have installed a 1TB drive in the second internal bay. Firmware is up to date and I am running Mac OS X (10.5.6). I have had CS1 for about 5 years and it is registered in my name.
The problem started around the time that I downloaded a trial version of Illustrator CS4, about 1-2 months ago. I'm not necessarily linking the two together because I can't remember if I have successfully launched a CS1 app since installing Illustrator CS4. Around that time, I also repaired disk permissions in an attempt to sort out a problem I was having with the optical drive and I am fairly sure that I haven't been able to launch a CS1 app since then. Again, I don't know whether these could be related.
What I tried to explain to Adobe was that, I used to use 3 or 4 different user accounts on my Mac. I had one set up for graphics, one for music etc.. I have only installed CS1 on this computer but it occurred to me that by using the suite under different user accounts, it may have appeared that I had installed it on more than the allowed maximum of two computers. Also, I have more than once had to reinstall the operating system. At least once was an 'erase and install' and one an 'archive and install'. I wondered if this might also make it appear that I had installed the suite on more than two computers. I have since read somewhere that if you want to transfer your licence to someone else, you have to deactivate the serial number from preferences, which is something that I have never done.
Here is a list of what I have done to try and eliminate possible causes:
    - relaunched the apps after the first failed launch, to launch them with their default preference sets.
    - manually uninstalled the entire suite, including preference files, caches, fonts etc., as per the instructions given on the Adobe Support Website.
    - reinstalled the suite
    - repaired disk permissions
    - deleted all printer and scanner drivers
    - set up a second user account to verify that the apps will not launch from a different account
    - booted in safe mode and tried to launch CS apps from there to eliminate issues with login
    items or kext files
    - disabled all non-system fonts and deleted any duplicates
    - tried to launch the apps having removed all peripherals except mouse and keyboard
    - reset PRAM and NVRAM
    - run all open firmware and Mac OS X diagnostic tests to eliminate hardware issues
    - completely reinstalled the operating system followed by a clean installation of the suite
None of these measures has solved the problem. If anyone could offer me any advice on this, I would be very grateful. Could it be a licencing issue and if so, what do I do about it? Adobe don't seem to want to know. Incidentally, Adobe Reader launches fine as does the trial version of InDesign CS4 that I've just downloaded.
If you have read this far, thank you for persevering.
    Regards
    Will Mackie

CS1 is not supported in Leopard if you had it working at some point you were lucky. Adobe does not plan on updating CS as it is an old version. Keep in mind that CS1 is now the last version that can be updated to CS4 now that Adobe has a 3 version update window. At the beginning of March Adobe will start tiered pricing and CS1 and CS2 will cost $200 more that you can upgrade to day. As soon as CS5 is released you will no longer be in the upgrade path and will need to pay full price for the CS5 creative suite.
If you want to continue to use Leopard then it would be best for you to upgrade to CS4. If you will never need to upgrade then it would be best to downgrade your system to Tiger by either restoring from a backup of Tiger you made before your system upgrade or wiping the drive and installing Tiger fresh. You can't Downgrade the Leopard with Tiger as you could with previous systems.

  • My efforts to remove malware from a network external hard drive connected to my Intel based iMac is now causing programs to hang when I try to open them.

I own an iMac, recently updated with OSX 10.75. It is the core computer on a home network shared with an iPad, Apple TV, two network printers,my wife's laptop, two iPhone, a BlackBerry and a BlackBerry Playbook. I am experiencing three if not four problems that are overwhelming.
My original problem is associated with Windows emails files or documents  stored on my external network  hard drive. One or more has malware and is sending malware laced files across the Internet to points unknown.  As someone pointed out in a forum my iMac may be hosting, sharing and propagating Windows malware.  I originally used Trend Micro software on my IMac to monitor any viral activity. Two weeks ago I noticed a number of notices from servers around the world saying my message was not undelivered. Since I had sent messages to the people I simply deleted the emails. Next I noticed the emails on my BlackBerry and my BlackBerry playbook.I configured the Trend to do a complete scan and although it did a complete scan it did not perform a full network scan. It did identify a series of .x27 document files with the same name tbut each had a sequential number. I assumed hat these were the source files that had  sent out the email documents selling Viagara and othernproducts.  I manually deleted thousands of the source documents and the files. This caused some disruption to my computer but it did not produce a hardware or software problem. By following this effort in conjunction with security scans I do believe the malware was activated by Iranian students who were able to activate the malware through my BlackBerry and BlackBerry Playbook.  I learned this from an encounter I had when trying tondelete these files on my computer and my BlackBerry.
When using my PlayBook after deleting the files from my computer I noticed more messages being returned from servers.  I realized that email accounts connected to my BlackBerry and BB Playbookn were not protected from this problem. As I searched for remedies I learned about turning on the firewall in the previous version of Lion but that did not stop the BlackBerry problem. Each time I deleted a source file on my computer more documents were released. I eventually received McAfee from my ISP. It provided security on the entire network. My first full scan of my external drive identified two malware files. One of them was associated with the Cialis ad the other was from a firm in the Middle East called ADP.  it could not remove the latter file.
Moreover each time I attempted to remove the source file from my hard drive a file labeled A239A076F would show up on my Blackberry.  As I removed them thousands of these files would show up.  Ultimately I eventually disconnected the external hard drive and removed the battery from the phone and not use the email accounts these messages had used to enter my iMac.  I am contacting ATT about BlackBerry data security and switching to a different phone for business purposes. I will probably change to an iPhone or Android phone for business purposes.  I am also looking at ways to resolve the malware on that drive. There are a number of business and personal files on thatbdrive that I hope to keep. I dread having to pay McAfee to configure the software to eradicate the malware.
Moving on...last week I updated my iMac to 10.75. It simultaneously updated every Apple based program as promised. It did not update the non-Apple programs.  I am not an IT professional and assumed that it had done so.  On Saturday I attempted to download a file associated with my router extender using my untethered Playbook and BlackBerry desktop software. The program hung. I attempted a reboot and it reopened with the hung program.  It created an alias file on the desktop.  My inclination led to put the alias file in the trash can and delete it. My computer did not respond well to that action. It has been rebooted with Cmd-s-esc tens of time to see if that would activate a file check. It did not. I was able to run a disk utility check. And in spite of the hung process it eventually said the drive was okay.
Long story in a nutshell. My iMac is responding as if it is looking for a subprogram to complete its a function. Or it is attempting to finish the BlackBerry operation it began on Saturday. I hope this makes sense to someone and the know how I can restore functionality to my iMac.
    Thank you.

I think the McAfee suite will do the trick when I pay them a one-time fee of $69 or $179 for a year for unlimited support.
Your call of course but IMO a waste of money. Please read this first:
There are many forms of ‘Malware’ that can affect a computer system, of which ‘a virus’ is but one type, ‘trojans’ another. Using the strict definition of a computer virus, no viruses that can attack OS X have so far been detected 'in the wild', i.e. in anything other than laboratory conditions. The same is not true of other forms of malware, such as Trojans. Whilst it is a fairly safe bet that your Mac has NOT been infected by a virus, it may have another security-related problem, but more likely a technical problem unrelated to any malware threat.
You may find this User Tip on Viruses, Trojan Detection and Removal, as well as general Internet Security and Privacy, useful:

  • I just restored my first generation iPad, now all apps crash when I try to open them

I have an original iPad that was not able to sync with my itunes for some reason after Apple released its recent iTunes update.  I did a full restore of my ipad to see if the problem would be resolved.  Now I have bigger problems.  None of the apps that I have tried to install can run.  I select an app, and it crashes and returns to the home screen.  I tried restoring several more times, including one time that I did a restore from the backup of my iPad made immediately before I did the first restore earlier today.  The OS version is 5.1.5, which is the newest version that Apple seems to allow to install in the original iPad.  Can anyone help?  This iPad is useless unless I can figure this out.

I don't see how you could install incompatible apps because you cannot apps that are not compatible. You restored already and sometimes just rebooting the iPad helps with what you were experiencing. I don't if it will do any good now, but you might as well give it a try.
Reboot the iPad by holding down on the sleep and home buttons at the same time for about 10-15 seconds until the Apple Logo appears - ignore the red slider - let go of the buttons.
If you downloaded the latest version of iTunes, perhaps the download or installation of the software was corrupt. You could try deleting iTunes and reinstall it. What OS are you - Windows or Mac OS X?
I don't think that this will work, but try it anyway... Try downloading another app - any free app will be fine.

  • Just got the iPhone6 and did the iCloud setup from a previous backup of my old iPhone5.  iPhone6 is now continuously trying to download the renweb app.  When I try to delete the renweb app, it will not delete.  How can I get rid of the app??

How can I delete the app off my phone without going through the entire setup of the new phone again?  App will not delete the normal way.  I hit delete and it just stays on the phone and tries to download over and over.

If it has a cloud icon it means its no longer on your device.  Tapping on the cloud will effectively reinstall the App from scratch to your device.
There is no way to remove it from the cloud because its not yours to remove from there. Its the general App repository, you are just given access to it to download content you've already purchased.

  • HT204264 Why does it say my pictures will be deleted from my icloud when i try to delete them off my phone, in that case what is the point of purchasing extra monthly storage or even having an icloud in the first place if my pictures will be deleted?!

I have the iphone 6 plus and have not updated to the latest version (ios8)

iCloud Photo Library is not designed to be a cloud-only storage service. The photos kept in iCloud Photo Library are also on all of the devices where you have turned iCloud Photo Library on and any photos added to or deleted from one device are automatically synced to iCloud Photo Library and to the other devices. You can reduce the storage space required on your phone (and also on any other devices) by going to Settings > Photos & Camera and placing a checkmark in front of Optimize Storage. More details in iCloud Photo Library FAQ - Apple Support
Apple does not offer any cloud-only storage options. If that is a requirement there are 3rd parties that do. You could also make the suggestion to Apple at https://www.apple.com/feedback/icloud.html
