Apps taking longer than usual to load

lately, I have noticed that it is taking a really long time to launch applications on my macbook pro. what can I do to speed up this process, or would I be better off reinstalling Snow Leopard? thanks!

I have tried rebooting several times in the last 3 days, but that doesn't fix my problem. My system has 4 GB memory, and it doesn't ever run out of it since I got this mac...
as for page in/out, so far, i've had 95419 page ins, and 52916 page outs.
For CPU Time, Chrome has had 7:47.83 and kernal_task has had 5:06.59 (and over 30 million sent messages).
the one thing that seems to run really high is something called 'intercheck' it has had 1:27.10 CPU Time!
the main reason for my inquiry is because I've been noticing that my battery is not lasting longer than 2 hours between charges.  Thanks for your help... I might take it into a genius bar tomorrow if we can't resolve this issue before then.

  • Satellite L735 taking longer than usual to start-up

My toshiba Satellite L735 was taking longer than usual to startup (more than a minute, usually takes 40 secs) gave it to the service centre, they said they updates the BIOS, optimised processor calculation, formatted it.
It was fine again, but the problem was back in less than a month, took it again, the person at the counter just reduced the unnecessary programs from the boot list, came back home to notice it was taking even longer to startup (more than 2 mins).
When i switch it on, its all fine i get the windows logo in no time, but after that a black screen appears and stays for about a minute and a half, then the homescreen appears, the windows startup sound thats supposed to play as soon as the homescreen appears plays about 40 secs aftr the homescreen has appeared.
    Please help.
    Thank you.

    Hi
The notebook seems to load the windows slowly because too many processes would be loaded at the beginning.
First of all I recommend downloading and installing the CCLeaner. This freeware tool would help you to clean the registry and to remove the garbage from the system.
Furthermore you should check your processes which would be loaded at the beginning.
Start msconfig and go to StartUp tab. Here you can disable no necessary and not important processes.
I dont know how many computer experience you have so be careful with that.
If you dont know exactly what the single process does, google for more details.
Removing a mark near the process will disable this you can enable this later too
Furthermore I would recommend checking your antivirus software I switched from Norton Antivirus to Avira Antivir software because it much faster and does not need a lot of hardware resources the Avira antivir is freeware software so you can install and use it for free.
Last but not least defragment the HDD to ensure faster data access
    Good luck

  • "Connecting to the network is taking longer than usual" message after I wake my computer from sleep

Connecting wirelessly after waking computer from sleep yields the message "connecting to the network is taking longer than usual".  This only occurs after sleep, it also does not allow it to autoconnect like when starting the computer up.  All
drivers seem to be up to date and happens at more than one wireless location, home and school.  I have a windows 7 opperating system.

I just had the same problem with my HP Pavilion dv6 laptop.
I was able to resolve the problem by uninstalling my Intel Centrino Wireless Network adapter (but I did not delete the driver).  I did this by right-clicking My Computer, Manage, Device Manager, expanded the Network Adapters group, and right-click the
Wireless Network Adapter and click Uninstall.  I recommend that you reboot once this is done.
My laptop now connects to Wifi immediately after waking the laptop from sleep.
This is what finally resolved my problem. Sony Vaio with 64bit Windows 7. Wireless would sometimes take up to 3 minutes after Windows started to connect. After following these instructions, I first removed all wireless networks, then from the System Control
Panel I deleted (along with the driver) the Wireless Adapter. I then installed a fresh driver directly from the maker (not OEM).
I now connect to Wifi immediately after booting or waking from hibernation.
    Thank you

I believe this is ready for submission for the Time Machine forum.
As noted, it does not cover diagnosis and correction of specific problems or errors, as that would seem to be better handled separately.
It also doesn't cover anything about Time Capsule, for the very good reason that I'm not familiar with them. If someone wants to draft a separate post for it, or items to add/update here, that would be great!
    Thanks very much.

  • PayPal to Bank Acct. Taking Longer Than Usual

I'm a new poster here who has used PayPal to receive payments and transfer them to my bank account here in Mexico for the past two years. Since I began this process, the transfers have always arrived in my bank account between 36 to 60 hours after the initial transfer request unless it was the weekend. Basically, it's always taken 24 hours for the transfer to show up as "completed" and then another 12 to 36 hours to be available at my bank depending on whether I made the initial request before or after 2:00pm local time. My latest transfer request (from PayPal to bank) was solicited Monday, August 3rd during the morning hours, meaning the funds would in the past be available to me on Wednesday. It is now Friday, and the funds still aren't there. The email I received from PayPal when making the request says that it should be available by Aug. 11th so I guess I'll have to wait until then before contacting support, but the transfers have always gone through like clockwork until this one. My PayPal account is verified and is linked, etc. Has anyone had a similar case in which transfers to a bank account are consistently successful within a short time frame and then all of the sudden a transfer is days later than usual arriving in a bank account? There's nothing different on the PayPal request nor at my bank that would cause this unusual delay as far as I can tell. Thank you in advance for your feedback.

  • Exchange issues synch taking longer than usual

This issue is a little difficult to describe. But now when I go to my exchange email "inbox" it seems like it has to download the entire list again, or that its downloading it from a point. For whatever reason it seems like the "synchs" aren't taking hold and require a full download to take place, whereas a check for mail might have taken 5 seconds before, now I go to my inbox and its empty and can take up to two minutes to show me my mail.
I've tried a full reboot of the ipHone. But other than that I'm not sure where to go?
    Thanks in advance!

  • Rendering taking longer than usual

I'm cutting on FCP 6.0.6. I've noticed its taking a lot longer to render these days. Anyone know why? Thanks.

Do you really mean I should erase the entire cache of a project with a few hundred clips spread through several sequences? How long would it take to build it back again? Is there any chance something might go wrong and it doesn´t build everything back, throwing away hundreds of hours of work? I´m just doing the final touch ups in the project, can´t afford to go back, audio editing being the main concern (it was quite complicated).
If I copy the entire cache to some other folder before cleaning it up and something goes wrong when building it back, can I just paste the backed up cache into the former folder?
I run the system on a SSD for programs with 65,2GB free right now and it´s only 12% fragmented (very little, right?). the Raid has 750GB available. It was 10% fragmented but the project continues to freeze after defragmenting (have still to defragment the SSD, but I don´t know if I should do it now: the little I mess with it the SSD the better, right?).
    Thanks a lot!

If you really want to know where time a spent for a specific SQL statetemet you should use SQL trace and TKPROF for the related SQL statement.

  • Apps taking longer to startup and use

In my main OSX startup profile some apps Office, sometimes Safari, and others are taking longer than normal to startup and use. I booted into my administrator account and everything there is speedy so this appears to be a software issue somewhere. I am going to rebuild disk permissions, but I don think that will do the trick. It also takes years to perform this task in Snow Leopard. Tiger could do the job in half the time it takes Snow Leopard. Anyone got other suggestions to try? I am going to do some googling.
    Thanks,

I went to back up my iPhone4 and it said there was an update.  So I clicked  on 'update and backup' (or something close to that.)  It took FOREVER...way longer than usual. When it was done, it showed the power cord w/an arrow to iTunes.  ***???  I restarted my computer and tried the whole process again and still...the power cord with an arrow to iTunes.  And I know this means I have to go to Apple and get another phone and will lose anything that wasn't backed up. Anyone else have this happen or have a solution so I don't have to do a restore???

    Reboot your computer.
    Disable your antivirus and firewall.
Connect the phone to a USB port directly on your computer, not to a hub. If your computer is not a laptop and has ports on both front and back use a port on the back.
If iTunes does not recognize the phone when you connect it see: http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1808
If it STILL doesn't work open a command window and type:
       netsh winsock reset
Then try again. (It seems that a recent Microsoft Windows update may have corrupted network settings; this restores them to the factory default).
BTW, was there an error number associated with the failed update?

  • FCP Export Taking WAY LONGER Than Usual.

Hi there, I've been using Final Cut Pro to edit video from a 1080p Canon Camcorder for the past 10 months, and since last week, whenever I'm done with the editing process and I decide to export the Video in 720p HD with H264 with AAC Audio, the exports take A LOT LONGER than they took before.
It can take up to 2 hours to export a short 3 minute video..
Whereas it USED TO take about only 30 minutes for the same footage before.
Is there anything I'm forgetting, any setting I've accidentally changed or something?
    Please help me out,
    Thank you.
(I'm using FINAL CUT PRO 7)

I still can't figure it out,
a 3 minute long video which was about 300MBs when exported with QuickTime Conversion from FCP7 is now about 1.25 GBs, I don't remember having changed any settings, I've even tried trashing preferences, but still no luck.
*An old video that was shot with the same HD Camcorder which was 3 Minute long video I had exported was 257.9 MB & the total bitrate is 11,715 (EXPORTED FILE)*
*But this file that I'm having size issues with right now is also 3 Minutes long (shot with same camcorder) and the exported file is 1.25 GBs and has a bitrate of 58,693*
These are the QUICKTIME CONVERSION setting I've always used:
    VIDEO:
    Compression: H.264
    Quality: Best
    Key frame rate: 24
    Frame reordering: yes
    Encoding mode: multi-pass
    Dimensions: 1280x720
    SOUND:
    Format: AAC
    Sample Rate: 44.100 KHZ
    Channels: Stereo (L R)
    Bit Rate: 320 kbps
I've been using these same settings before and I haven't changed anything, but the file size has tripled on exports.
    *Sequence Settings:*
    QUICKTIME VIDEO SETTINGS:
    APPLE PRORES 422
    Quality 100%
And btw, I always DO A FULL "RENDER ALL" + "RENDER MIXDOWN" before exporting,
Is there any settings I must make sure haven't changed???
    What is my problem.
