Apps. won't launch after system install?

I had to do a system re-install because of a finder corruption and while the re-install seemed to go okay, many of my third party apps required re-installing, some major apps like FM Pro 11 required re-installing and NONE of my iLife apps will launch.  Any idea, suggestions without having to re-install virtually everything.

If you erased the hard drive first, then you should have to reinstall everything. But you did not say what you did to reinstall Snow Leopard.

  • IWork apps won't launch after new HD installed

My hard drive was failing so all files were backed up to an external hard drive (don't know what method - the Mac store did it for me) then moved to the new hard drive. Now the iWork apps won't launch. Doesn't matter which account I use and makes no difference if I boot in Safe Mode. I've updated iWork and still no difference. The icon flashes a couple of times on the dock, then disappears. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

When you say you updated iWorks are you talking about the update a few days ago? How about just reinstalling the applications?

  • ITunes won't launch after system re-install?

I had to reinstall Snow Leopard after my finder disappeared (I'm assuming some corruption to finder but who knows).  Anyhow, I've spent all day re-installing Snow Leopard and bringing it back up to 10.6.6.  Many of my third party apps needed to be re-installed as did major apps like FM Pro 11.  But the Apple app. that won't launch is iTunes 10.4.1.  Anybody with any thoughts on why this is happening and how I can resolve it?  Thank you.

I re-verified permissions, shut down and removed all power (inc battery)- restarted and itunes started when launched from doc. I don't know what the difference was, but it seems to be working.

  • Address Book Won't Launch after re-installing system.

Hope someone has a suggestion here. I just installed a new HD and made a nice clean install of system, starting with original that came with my 1st edition G5 Tower and then upgraded to 10.3, then to 10.4.11 (which is where I stop), performing the Apple Software updates along the way. Everything seems to be fine. Boots extremely fast, just like when it was a baby.
Everything except Address Book. I had been importing e-mails, etc. from my 2nd HD so that I could erase it and went to import from my old Address Book and it won't launch. Does the little animation in the Dock, but immediately quits. If I try to open it through Mail, it immediately kills the Mail application.
I really don't want to have to go through the lengthy installation process again. Does anone have any thoughts as to what might be causing this? Even the version of Address Book on my 2nd HD is doing the same thing.
    Any help would be appreciated.

Ok. For those who are interested, I did a search and was able to find some things to look for. Bottom line is that it is now fixed. For some reason, the required info was not contained within the new system's Application Support directory. In comparing the same directory on both the new system and the one on my 2nd HD, I discovered that there was only one thing in the new directory, while the directory of the other system had many things (including Address Book and DVD Player).
I hadn't yet launched DVD Player since installing, when I did, I got an error indicating that there was an error starting DVD Player. I copied the directory from the 2nd system into the Application Support on the new system and it then launched instantly.
I'm not sure why these things didn't get placed in Application Support under normal installation, but that is what the problem was.

  • Apps won't launch after disk reformat

I recently deactivated my Creative Cloud apps on my primary machine because I needed reformat the startup partition. After the reformat everytime I try to launch an app I'm asked to sign in, after the thank you screen the app will not launch (with the exception of Photoshop). Everything works fine on my secondary laptop.
I'm on OSX 10.6.8. Also, I use Retrospect to clone my system back to the reformatted disk. I'm suspicious that that might be the cause, but I'm also worried about making things worse if I try to reinstall a new system.

Installing a new system fixed the problem

  • Finder won't launch after re-install 7.1

I reinstalled QT 7.1 after having problems with 7.2. I was getting only audio and no video. After the reinstall I rebooted and now the finder won't launch so I can't see my hard drive or any icons on my desktop. And oddly enough the only app that will open is safari and quicktime now works!
What have I done and any clue on what just happened?

There is no "re-install" of older software versions allowed in OS X.
The only safe way to revert to previous versions is by Archive and Install using the Tiger DVD.

  • I tunes won't launch after system recovery

I had a recent problem with some hijackware and was forced to do a system restore to get rid of it.
After the system restore, I ran all the XP updates and downloaded itunes 7.3 but it won't launch. I keep getting:
"itunes has encountered a serious error and must shut down. sorry for the inconvenience".
Have tried downloading itunes again. Have tried the repair utility but so far without success.

i have no clue what that is or how to check if i do or dont have it
in that case you haven't installed one of them.
okay, let's try the following procedure.
Download and install the Windows Installer CleanUp utility. then use it to clear any existing QuickTime installation configuration information from your PC:
Description of the Windows Installer CleanUp Utility
Next, we’ll manually remove leftover program files and folders.
    1. On the Start menu, click My Computer (or double-click My Computer on the Desktop).
    2. In My Computer, open Local Disk.
    3. Open Program Files.
    4. Right-click on the QuickTime folder and click Delete from the shortcut menu.
    5. Navigate to C:\Windows\system32\.
    6. Remove the files QuickTime.qts and QuicktimeVR.qtx.
    7. Restart your computer.
next, we'll try to get a fresh copy of QuickTime into your PC by doing a repair install of itunes.
switch off antivirus and antispyware applications prior to the repair install.
go into Add/Remove and select itunes. click "Change" and then click "Repair".
if the repair install goes through okay, restart the PC and try launching itunes again. does it launch properly now?

  • Some apps won't launch after downloading

I've downloaded and "successfully" installed some applications from the cloud according to the application manager. Bridge, Ai; Id; Muse and Ps will launch without a problem, however Pr family products; Dw; Ae; and Media Encoder  won't launch. All except Dw at least get a splash screen and then crash, Dw just goes nowhere. I've uninstalled the later apps using the uninstaller and tried re-downloading Dw but still doesn't work. What's going on here?

    Thanks.

That's pretty vague. If you post a few more details, it might increase the chances that someone can help you.
    - What update?
    - What happens when you try to launch those apps?
    - Besides Firefox, what "some other" apps can you launch?

  • Pro Apps won't launch after migration

We just migrated from a PowerBook G4 to a MacBook Pro and FCP, DVDSP, and iDVD all won't open. I tried reinstalling FCS but it didn't work. I used a freeware called Final Cut Remover to try to get rid of all the bits but that didn't work.
HELP! We have an edit scheduled on this machine tomorrow!
I had the same problem once before when I upgraded my computer but I had more time so I just did a clean install of OSX and all my apps. I don't have that luxury this time.

You could try this as posted by our friend Brian Conner:
Warning - This is a long post.
How to uninstall Final Cut Pro & the other ProApps -
There are two ways to do this. The first requires that you insert the install disc and go through the following procedure to identify the installed files.
    1) Insert the disc and double click the install icon.
    2) Click to let the installer check your system
    3) After the installer opens, click File > Show Files (Command-T)
    4) Click the disclosure triangle next the the app's name to show all the files installed, then select all of them
    5) Choose Edit > Copy (Command-C)
    6) Open a text editor & paste the list
    7) If you have a printer connected, print
    8) Make sure you delete the file/folder in the exact location indicated in the list
The other way involves the Terminal.
    Using Terminal:
    1) In Finder, choose Go > Go to Folder (Shift-Command-G)
    2) Enter the location /Library/Receipts/FinalCurPro.pkg/Contents
    3) Click Go to open the Contents folder
    4) Launch Terminal (/Applications/Utilities/Terminal)
    5) Enter the command lsbom -s (a lower case L, not an upper case i)
lsbom lists each of the files inside the bill of materials. To list only the folders, the command would be lsbom -d.
    6) Type a space, then drag the Archive.bom file from the Finder window to the Terminal window.
    7) Press Return to view the list
    8) Drag to select the list in the Terminal window and choose File > Copy (Command-C)
    9) Open a text editor and paste the list into it. Print if you have a printer attached.
    10) Guided by the list, delete all the files and folders, being extremely careful to delete from the exact locations shown in the list.
NOTE: The above comes from the Peachpit book Optimizing Your Final Cut Pro System.

  • Apps won't launch after Terminal has been launched.

I just started noticing this recently. Before I launch terminal, I can open and close as many apps as I want. After I launch terminal, no apps will launch. They just keep bouncing in the dock indefinitely. Does anybody else have the same problem?

I deleted the file, but it did not work. Terminal was still interfering with launching my other apps. If I do a fresh Snow Leopard install, it would work fine, but after I do a Time Machine restore, or Migration Assistant and transfer my user account over, the problem came back. I ended up reformatting the HD, do a fresh Snow Leopard install, and used migration assistant to copy over ONLY my home folder, nothing else. I ignored the copying over the Applications, Settings, and Other. Now my system is working fine, but I have to reinstall a bunch of Applications now.
