Archiving a Smart Mailbox to a RAW Message Source using Automator?

In MAIL I can set a smart mailbox to say get emails from ("any" recipient contains [email protected])
But in Automator when I use the Filter messages in mail I can't be that broad with my selection, I can only select sender, and not ANY recipient. Be that someone cc'd with that email address, the sender or reciever.
One way around this is allowing Automator to select a Smart Mailbox from MAIL to do the selecting.
But I can't get Automator to select a Smart Mailbox.
What I need to do is take my Smart Mailbox content and every X# of days, for my needs it would be 7 days, export out last X# of days, again for me its 7 days, worth of emails as a RAW Message Source and append it to an existing RAW Message Source file in a specified folder.
Or if appending to an existing file is not possible then create individual files but name them something like, Weekending_10_282006, where the date in file name matches the day the script was run.
Then place this to always run on a Saturday.
I am using this to backup messages for specific projects at work. And I would like to use it to backup emails from my cousin who is serving overseas in Iraq.
Thank you for your help.

  • Force Mac Mail File/Save As to use Raw Message Source

Mac Mail version 6.3.  When using File/Save As, is there a way to force the save as format to be "Raw Message Source" always?  I change it to that, but over time it seems to switch back to Rich Text and I know I didn't change it.

    Thank you.
I saved the email as Raw in a folder on my desktop, then went to file-import mailbox in mail, and tried to import it. I got a message that it saved to an import folder in the mailbox list, but there is no such file. I tried making an Import folder and import it again, but it did not work.
Then I tried saving as Plain Text and Rich Text Format. I got an error that No valid Mail for Mac OS X files were found.
I have SpamSieve, could that be a problem?

  • Re-importing messages saved as raw message source

I made a back up copy of several messages by selecting them in the message viewer window and then File / Save As / Raw Message Source.
This resulted in a single file more or less the size of the sum of the messsages backed up, incl attachments, with no extension (inspite of the fact that I opted not to hide the extension).
I now want to get the messages back into Mail, but whatever I do Mail does not seem to want to do anything with the file it made....
Any ideas? or have I gone wrong somewhere....

Messages saved that way are stored in standard mbox format. Hence, to bring them back into Mail you must do File > Import Mailboxes and choose Other as the data format. Standard mbox files don’t require a filename extension in order for Mail to be able to import them.

There are at least 3 or 4 dozen solutions. However, you've asked for a solution that doesn't require programming. I'm afraid your only solution left is to hire a programmer.

  • Can't get smart mailboxes to work with "message has flag = color"

I'm trying to set up a Smart Mailbox that will find all the messages to which I've assigned a green flag.  This should be easy, right?
Unfortunately, this isn't working -- I definitely have messages with green flags in my inbox, but they're not being collected into the smart mailbox.
    I've also tried this:
    but it doesn't work either.
Is this broken in Mavericks?  Am I doing something wrong?

Re Eric: Arggh -- the first image (which went into the comment form but didn't show up) was of the "create smart mailbox" dropdown, which tested "match all rules: message has flag = green".  The second image tested "match all rules: message is flagged & message has flag = green".

  • Turning Raw into JPG (using automated batch action)

I have finally decided to try and learn a bit more... this is all motivated by me not being happy with White Balance and the results I get... I want more vibrant colours and natural skin tones...
Anyways I have decided to start shooting in RAW... but dont know how I get them into JPG format ??? I know I need to use Photoshop/Batch... but not sure exactly what...
When I open a RAW image it appears in Photoshop (CS3) and allows me to really manipulate the colours... but how do I then SAVE those changes and create a action so I can automate batch the pics...
Cause we shoot large sets of images (like 100-200 per set) it's important that I can automate batch them... way too slow to do each image individually...
Any help would be greatly appreciated... do I make the changes in Photoshop then batch them in Bridge ? Please think of me as a absolute newbie who needs a step by step instruction lol

Ok here's a step to step of what I want to do...
I want to open the RAW image... I take it I do that in Photoshop ? I say that cause when I double click a RAW image thats where it automatically opens...
After I done that I want to play around with the image... ajust exposure/colours ect... The programe that the RAW image opens in is perfect to do that, I believe it's opened in Camara Raw 4.0...
But here is the tricky bit... what I really want to be able to do is then create a action/automated batch so that I can make the same changed (automated) to all the images from that set... not have to do them individually... and at the same time change the images into JPG's
So thats the bit I guess how and what do I use to do that ?

  • Moving messages from a Smart Mailbox into an On My Mac folder for archiving

I'm trying to find a way to (as automatically as possible) archive emails. I'm using IMAP and I want to try to get the messages off the server and onto my laptop because it takes too much time and CPU cycles for Mail to tell the IMAP server to do all the grunt work, especially when I have upwards of 100,000 emails on the IMAP server. I've considered switching to POP3, but I've decided that IMAP is still the best solution, taking other issues into consideration as well.
I've looked at Mail Scripts, but it doesn't have the functionalty I want (namely it doesn't work with Smart Mailboxes, nor can do you have the same level flexibility of specifying dates and such as a Smart Mailbox does.
What I've come up with is I've created a Smart Mailbox which lists all messages older than 3 months (these are the messages I want to archive). I've also created an On My Mac folder where I would like to store all the archived email. My problems are:
    1) How can I move the emails from the Smart Mailbox into the On My Mac folder?
    2) The move of the messages should be done by Mail itself, otherwise, unless there is a way to automate the process, I will have to tell Mail to manually rebuild the On My Mac folder or else the messages that have been copied to the On My Mac folder will not be viewable in Mail, nor with they be caught by other Smart Mailboxes.
Anyone have any brilliant suggestions, or perhaps another way to do this all together?
    Thanks in advance...

Why do I need to post a comment or a follow-up before I can mark a question as answered? That's silly.

  • Archiving smart mailbox not complete

I am using Mail version 3.6 on my PowerMac G4 running 10.5.8.
Archiving a smart mailbox with more than 2200 mails results in a mbox file with only slightly more than 800 mails. I haven't figured out yet what the 800 saved mails have in common, compared to the total of 2200.  The smart mailbox has 2 rules, one searching for a single word in the message and another rule to include all senders in an address book mail group.
Did anyone experience something similar and what found out what the cause was?
    With kind regards,
    Gerard

I must admit that I was surprised as I suspect many would like to archive in this way - it may be a bug.
I have found a workaround for you.
    Create a new mailbox
Highlight all items in smart box - cmd A
Copy to new mailbox - right click on highlighted mails and select new mailbox
    Archive new mailbox
Drag appears to work for 3 but do a test run first.
    I hope this helps

  • Smart Mailbox When Using The Subject Condition

    Hi
Apologies if this is already a know issue.
I created the following Smart Mailbox to find mails with attachments, but to exclude those that were related to iCards...
    [] Contains Attachments
[] Subject Does not contain iCard
This appeared to work until I noticed that a number of expected mails were missing from the list.
The mails that were missing appeared to have no subject, but the "(no Subject)" filler was not displayed.
Using View->Message->Raw Source showed that the value for Subject was a single space.
Messages which did not have a value for Subject were retuned.
Something appears to be wrong with the way a Smart Mailbox deals with email subjects that are simply a single space and 'Subject' is one of the conditions.
Has anyone else come across this ?

    You’re welcome.
OK, so I’ve tried this myself, and it appears to be a bug. It seems that received messages that only contain spaces in the Subject never satisfy any smart mailbox [Subject] condition, not even a [Contains/Begins with/Ends with] <space> condition.
Interestingly enough, sent messages with only spaces in the Subject do work as expected. In particular, if you send a message to yourself with a subject that’s blank or only contains spaces and check Include messages from Sent in the smart mailbox definition, the sent message will appear in the smart mailbox whereas the received one won’t.

  • How do I archive or 'export' mailbox folders to DOCUMENTS?

How do I archive or 'export' mailbox folders to DOCUMENTS?

    Hey there BethWB,
It sounds like you are wanting to export your Emails as files, rather than archiving your entire mailbox in one file. You can do that in a few ways, and this article will help you do that in Mavericks:
Mail (Mavericks): Save messages as files or PDFs
    http://support.apple.com/kb/PH14913
To save messages as files to use in other apps, select one or more messages or conversations, then choose File > Save As.Rich Text Format retains formatting, but Plain Text does not. Raw Message Source saves messages in mbox format, which can be imported into Mail and most other email apps. With Raw Message Source, the header is visible and an encoded version of attachments is retained.
To save messages as PDF documents, select one or more messages, then choose File > Export as PDF.
To save a single message in mbox format, drag the message onto your desktop. To reopen the message in Mail, double-click the file.
If you ARE wanting to archive the entire mailbox to one file, this will help you do that:
    Mail (Mavericks): Archive messages
    http://support.apple.com/kb/PH14894
Thank you for using Apple Support Communities.
    All the best,

  • Gmail and other IMAP, smart mailbox for inboxes

    Hello,
I have Mavericks, use Mail.app, including 4 active email accounts. I have a smart mailbox that includes any message from 3 of the 4 account inboxes, and I've been using this setup since Snow Leopard. After upgrading to Mavericks, this smart mailbox no longer works properly.
So 2 of the 3 mailboxes included in the smart mailbox are gmail, the third is non-gmail IMAP. The smart mailbox does include the correct messages from all three inboxes together, but it lists the gmail boxes as being from archive (AKA All Mail) instead of Inbox. Apparently Mail.app is doing a message matching between those emails, and preferring the "all mail" version over the inbox version. This didn't seem to be more than an annoyance at first, until I discovered that I can't archive emails from the smart mailbox: I have to go directly to the inbox to archive them, because calling "archive" on an "all mail" message is a No-op.
I beleive this problem is not specific to smart mailboxes, because it happens on search results as well. So
    Select gmail inbox
search for a sender in that mailbox only
    select some of those messages
    click "archive"
The effect is that the messages will disappaer from the current search result, but as soon as I dismiss the search I can see the messages are still in the inbox.
Clearly the enhanced gmail integration was done hastily here.
I don't know if there is a workaround here. Apple must fix!

Oh, and there was one other issue I forgot to mention. When I used this arrangement before Mavericks, the smart mailbox pointing at my inboxes would "live update", so if new mail was received in an inbox and I was looking at the smart mailbox, it would update immediately. This functionality is no longer there.

  • Lost Mail in Smart Mailbox

I tried to edit a Smart Mailbox and lost all my mail in the smart mailbox when I hit the "-" to remove a double entry. The original entry remained and I added another entry and also I reentered the one I had removed. However, nothing now appears in that Smart Mailbox although there are message in the Inbox that meet the criteria.
Is there any way to recover my lost mail in the Smart Mailbox and how do I get the messages into it that are in Inbox?
    Thanks.

You didn't lose the mail by doing this, you understand. A Smart Mailbox is like Smart Folder in Finder. It just shows you all mail that matches a set of requirements.
At this point you just need to think it through and re-enter the Smart Mailbox requirements (being careful about the "that match ALL" and "that match ANY").
