Ard firewall problem

From within my home network ARD 3.5.2 can not connect between 2 computers.  Each computer shows available status, but connection fails unless the OSX Firewall is turned off.  ARD has worked in the past until one of the big security updates installed a while ago.  What's the best way to trouble shoot the firewall?  Since I'm not going outside the router, it should be a no brainer to resolve... must be something simple.

Problem solved.  I removed in Sharing the Remote Management selection and restarted.  Then I set Remote Management in Sharing again.  I also checked Back to My Mac in iCloud in both computers.  It wasn't checked previously.  ARD now connects.  Not sure if the Back to My Mac is required is required for home network connectivity...  I thought Back to My Mac was specific to MobileMe or Internet to Home Network connections.

  • FWM 01009 (null):firewall problem?

    Hi Guys,
    I have a problem with a DMZ installation and the firewall settings
    Here's the situation.
    On our internal network we have installed the servercomponents of BOXI Edge 3.1, which seems to be running fine.
    We have a seperate Webserver with Tomcat 5.5 installed on it in the DMZ zone. Via Wdeploy I have deployed the war files on it (according to the wdeploy deploy document).
    Whenever I want to logon to the CMC on my webserver machine, my login screen is appearing fine, but after I hit logon, I receive the error message FWM 010009 (null), a communication failure has occured. According to our firewall team, all ports are open in both directions. They have executed a trace and see that the BOXI Edge server is sending back packages, but that in that package should be an end communication order.
    I still have (an older) VM with Edge 3.1 behind the firewalls (thus internally), from which I can access my newly installed machine in a glance...
    As an extra test we have installed a complet Edge version on the Webserver as well. Communication on the webserver is OK, but as soon as we try to connect to the server behind the firewall, it goes wrong and the error appears.
    So here comes my question, is there anyone who can give me a clue where it goes wrong?
    Is it correct to say that it is a firewall problem?
    If all ports are open on the firewall, communication shouldn't be a problem, isn't it?
    Any help is appreciated.
    Regards,
    Jorn

    Hi,
    we have appointed a static port 4982 to the request port.
    According to our firewall guys, no communications is coming from the request port.  Even before the request port can answer, the port 6400 is sending a FIN package (termination package) to the application resulting in the error message.
    They say that all ports are open and that it's not a firewall problem...  However when I communicate within my LAN environment this is not a problem...
    Can please someone help me out?
    Regards,
    Jorn

    Some folks have discovered that changing their DNS service fixes FaceTime connection issues.
    The ideal way is to configure your modem/router with DNS service, but often settings in System Preferences/Network/Advanced/DNS on your Mac will override the router settings. Try either of these;
    OpenDNS
    208.67.222.222, 208.67.220.220
    Google Public DNS
    8.8.8.8, 8.8.4.4

  • Home Sharing- alleged firewall problem (-3259)

    Hi,
    I've had this problem since I first tried to share any content between libraries with iTunes 9. In fact, I noticed the same problem when I was trying to stream content to my Apple TV a couple of weeks ago.
    So I have an iMac, MacBook Pro and Airport Extreme (802.11n) Base Station. Both Macs have Snow Leopard installed with iTunes 9. None have any third-party firewall software installed nor do they have the firewall turned on in System Preferences.
    Here's the problem: when I try to share content from library to library, it doesn't happen. Specifically, I can initialise a connection between both computers so the other computer's library shows up in the sidebar in iTunes, but that's as far as it gets. When I click on said library, there's a 2 minute wait before the following message is displayed.
    "The shared library "Liam's Music" is not responding. (-3259) Check that any firewall software running on either the shared computer or this computer has been set to allow communication on port 3689."
    I've tried absolutely everything (including a direct Ethernet connection between both Macs- same error message). Most recently, I even verified port 3689 is open using the Network Activity app. If anybody could help me here, I would really appreciate it. I have so much content I want to share to my family's iPods, etc.
    Liam.

    I am having the same problem. Except I am sharing the library from a D-Link NAS. It worked perfectly before upgrading to iTunes 9. It's not a network or firewall problem. Nothing has changed there. The only change is iTunes 9. Any help is appreciated.

  • ASA 5510 FireWall Problem

    Hi All
    After some advise and direction
    Our ASA firewall using ASA version 8.4 has recently started presenting us with a problem to one external website
    called http://partners.highnet.com/login/  ip address 62.233.82.181.
    Our firewall is letting everything on our inside Trusted site 192.168.254.0/24 out through our outside interface on x.x.x.x
    to any website and brings back the details
    However when we try to reach http://partners.highnet.com/login/ we recently started receiving (Internet Explorer cannot display the webpage)
    on checking the ASA under Home TAB       -       Firewall Dashboard    -    and then under     -      Top 10 protected Servers under SYN attack we are receiving the below error.
    Rank        Server IP-Port           Interface     Average          Current                    Total                           Source IP (Last Attack Time)

                            8
                              192.168.254.130 (1 mins ago)
    I have tried rebooting the ASA firewall (Still did not resolve).
    I have also  disabled basic threat detection and threat detection statistics and then re-enabled after a period of time under > configuration > Firewall > threat detection  (Still did not resolve).
    Have created a number of access list both from the inside to outside and outside to inside allowing TCP just to the specific IP address 62.233.82.181 (Still did not resolve).
    Tried editing Global Policy for Http configuration > connection settings TCP and UDP connections and also Embryonic connections (Still did not resolve).
    Also tried using the shun command on the ASA to clear connection and statistics and (Still did not resolve).
    So you see there is nothing else I can think of doing, so that is why I have asked you for some pointers maybe someone has come across this sort of issue before.
    If you can help or advise it is much appreciated.

    Hi,
    Are you sending logs from your ASA to any Syslog server from which you could pull all the connection logs for that destination IP address?
    On the ASA you can naturally use "packet-tracer" also to simulate one such packet coming from your LAN towards this WAN IP address (of the server) and confirm that all rules are correct.
    packet-tracer input INSIDE tcp 192.168.254.130 12345 62.233.82.181 80
    You could maybe also try to generate TCP SYNs directly from the ASA
    ping tcp 62.233.82.181 80
    And see if the server replies

  • Finally a solution to all your firewall problems

    I finally have answer to all of you who are seeking this
    question.
    When the Flash Player encounters the connect() method, it
    attempts to connect to your FCS following a very specific pattern.
    It first attmpts to connect over port 1935, then port 433, then
    port 80 and then it automatically attempts to tunnel through by
    sending rtmp data over http also called RTMPT it turns out the
    automatic sequence of attempts is fine for many situations however
    you may find some users can't make a connection (well , the
    NetConnection can't) because their firewall blocks data from
    traveling through port 1935. If those users can connect to any
    website surely they can use port 80 .And even if their setup blocks
    rtmp surely they can use RTMPT over port 80 because its really just
    plain http ...you might think the final attempt by flash player
    RTMPT on port 80 to be failsafe however the problem is that if you
    are running your webserver on the same machine as FMS then they
    can't both use port 80 at the same time....a perfectly legitimate
    solution is to use to computers one for the webserver and one for
    FMS ......two computers probably means you need to specify the
    domain in your rtmp (rtmp://mydomain.com/video).
    To force the flash player to try to connect through a
    specific port other than the defaults as specified above.....write
    rtmp as ....my_nc.connect("rtmp::8500/mydomain.com/video);

  • Itunes locking up when ipod is connected.  Firewall problem?

    Hi folks. For years I have been running itunes, an ipod touch and NOD32 firewall with no problems at all. But a couple of days ago I connected up my ipod and there is a problem.
    itunes launches as you would expect, but it immediately hangs. After a few minutes, it will free up, but the ipod is not visible in itunes. I can see it in Windows and the USB driver is working fine.
    If I disconnect the ipod whilst itunes is "stuck", then itunes immediately starts responding properly. So it looks very much like this freezing is caused by itunes hanging on the ipod.
    Here's the wierd thing: I have found that if I disable my firewall, the problem goes away. i.e. everything works fine if the firewall is disabled. No lockups and itunes can see the ipod and will happily sync with it.
    I really don't see how the firewall can be the culprit though. I didn't think firewalls applied to USB connections??!
    I have tried uninstalling and reinstalling itunes and it makes no difference. I have also upgraded from 9.1 to 9.2 and that didn't fix it either.
    Any ideas what's going on (And how to fix it?)
    Thanks

    After re-installing iTunes, and doing a full restore on my iPod, I have determined that it was some album cover art that seemed to be causing the problem. The iPod would start to sync, and then hang on one song. Deleted that song, and it synced a little more, and got hung up again on another song from the same album.
    I deleted the entire album from my iTunes library, and the iPod synced just fine. I re-ripped the CD in question, this time with out adding ablum cover art, and it worked perfectly.
    Now I wonder why iTunes is getting stuck on certian album cover art. The CD in question is Eric Clapton's "Crossroads". iTunes was unable to retreive the album cover art when I ripped the CD [perhaps because iTunes has it listed as "Crossroads (Box Set)"], so I just scanned the cover of the CD and added it that way. I have done this with other CDs, and had no problems what so ever. Anyone have any clue as to why this would happen?

  • ITunes (and Airfoil) can see Airport Express but can't connect in Windows XP (error -15000) - firewall problems?

    I am using Windows XP Professional 2002 w/ SP3 on a Dell Latitude E4300 laptop wirelessly connecting to my Airport Express 802.11n (firmware 7.5.2).
    I can see my Airport Express in iTunes 10.4.1 and can select it via the Airplay button. iTunes even detects whether or not a speaker is connected to the Airport Express. But when iTunes tries to connect, it comes back after a while saying "An error occurred while connecting to the Airplay device xxx. An unknown error occurred (error -15000)."
    A similar problem happens with Airfoil from Rogue Amoeba that I use to stream music from other apps such as VideoLAN to Airport Express on the same laptop. I can see that my Airport Express is available but when Airfoil tries to connect, it comes back saying "It appears that a firewall on this computer is preventing Airfoil from connecting to xxx Airport Express. Please check your firewall settings and try again."
    I've set both Airplay and iTunes as exception programs in my Windows Firewall setting, and even added TCP ports 5000 to 5005 and UDP ports 6000 to 6005 to the exceptions as recommended by Airfoil. I've also disabled Symantec Endpoint Protection that Ihave installed. The only thing I can't disable is McAfee Endpoint Encryption, since I also use the laptop at work and I don't have permission to disableMcAfee.  I use this laptop to connect wirelessly with other devices such as HP wireless printers, NAS drives and other laptops on my home network and have never had any issues, so i think that this issue is specific to the Airplay software being blocked by some firewall (I am assuming Airfoil also uses Airplay).
    I've tried this on different wireless networks and I have the same issue with Windows XP on my Dell Latitude E4300. I've also set up the network with no security, but the problem doesn't go away.
    I also tried downgrading iTunes to 10.3.1 but won't work. I think it's an Airplay issue, not a specific iTunes issue, since I'm facing the problem with Airfoil as well.
    How do I trace what is going on that is preventing iTunes and Airfoil from streaming to the AirportExpress within Windows XP?
    I also have another Dell Inspiron laptop on the same network running on Windows Vista, and have no problems streaming music from iTunes or Airfoil to the Airport Express on the same network, even when the network is WPA-2 Personal (TKIP+AES) protected (I've seen other postings where WPA has been an issue, WEP has not, but in my case, this is not an issue). Ditto with my iPad2.
    Thanks for your help!

    I have the same problem with Windows 7 64bit. ITune can see AE and stream Music well. Airfoil, TuneBlade (airplay soft) can also see AE but can't connect and stream music. I ' ve already tried to setup firewall Exception list, even turning off firewall off both windows and antivirus but still got the same problem with the message 'Airfoil was unable to connect to the remote speaker " ... 's Airport Express". Please check the firewall on the computer where " ...'s Airport Express" is running and try again'. Any help would be appreciated !.

  • XI Adapter : Firewall Problem !

    Hi Guys !
    Here we face a problem transfering data to Oracle using JDBC Adapter (Sender / Recevier)
    There is firewall between our XI System and Oracle System. We have opened 1521 -- 1529 Series / 50 000 - 59 999 Series in firewall for communication.
    But when data is transfered from  ECC to Oracle follwoing happens ad below
    1) Source Ip : 10.x.x.4 : 38788 to Destination Ip : 10.x.x.56:1521 ---> Connection seems to be OK (I can see in Listner.Log file)
    But when reverse communicatiuo happens
    2)Source Ip : 10.x.x.56:1521 to Destination Ip : 10.x.x.4 : 38788  --> Error comes as no port open for firewall (38000 Series)
    If Source ip with 50000 Series then data transfers.
    This Port generation from SAP XI Application erractic sometimes 30000 , 40000 , 50000 sERIES by seeing in the log ??
    So am not in a  position to tell firewall team this my range of ports to be opened , so when 50000 series comes it works r else it says network adapter error in RWB.
    I heard we can do port binding to divert all request from different port through one port so that firewall can allow the same ??
    Is it possible , if doing so is it good for handeling bulk data transfers  ??
    My main aim is to give the range of ports that SAP XI application generates ?
    Any idea of my problem to be taken further.

  • ARD Admin problem

    I'm running ARD 3.4 in a school with 26 iMacs from early 2006 in a lab. Everything was working fine until I had to replace two machines due to hardware failure. I replaced them with the same model computer, restored them from the same image that the rest used, and called it good. I administer ARD from another iMac, early 2008 20" in the building. I went to install some software and found the two I had replaced not working, call them #1 and #3. I removed them from my list, ran the scanner, and found the machines were simply using different IP addresses, so I re-added them to my list. ARD works as usual for all the machines except 1 & 3, listing them as offline, but I am still able to control them (any other tasks fail because the computers are "offline"). I've gone through every setting, both on the machines, and in ARD and the only difference I can find is that ARD reports 1 & 3 as being administered by a computer with a different IP address than the others - I've pinged this IP address and gotten no response. The working computers also have a green light next to the admin machine name, while 1 & 3 do not. I click the edit button at the bottom of this page, but it doesn't actually let me edit anything, regardless of which computer I'm checking.
    Has anyone else run into this problem? Any suggestions?

    Hi jhana,
    I've been combing the boards because I too am having this very same kind of thing happen.
    In my case, I moved and have been attempting to recreate the office I had back in AUG 2010. Started setting it all up in January and was delayed due to a lot of hardware failures. Am finally getting around to setting up ARD and my computers are not working with ARD as they did in the past. Many are showing up as Offline. I decided to throw away the prefs and thought it would give me a fresh start, but now many computers on the network are not even showing up!
    Misery loves company, but I sure would like to solve this and get happy.
    Suggestions anyone?
    ARD 3.4 Administered from an iMac PowerPC G5, and the Ethernet & Airport network has 3 more iMacs, a MacMini, and two PowerMacs, and a PowerBook G5, and sometimes an iBook. Things were working great before I moved. Network is configured a bit differently that before, but since I set it up, file sharing seemed to be working OK, so then went I went to set up ARD 3.4 things are not right.
    Why?
    Thanks in advance and so long for now, TOM

  • Oracle JDBC Thin Driver and Firewall Problem

    Hi!
    We have Oracle 8.1.5 and Websphere App Server. There is a
    firewall between the two. A servlet creates a connection pool
    (not that of Wesphere's). The frontend is JSP/HTML (no applets).
    The servlet uses the Oracle JDBC Thin Driver for DB Connections.
    The problem is - Once the connection is freed, the connection
    pool is not being able to retrieve it and hence it created
    another one, thus reaching the max. # of connections and the
    system hangs. Restarting the DB service flushes the connection
    and the application starts running again...
    There was a similar problem discussed in this forums long ago. I
    have not yet tried mentioning the firwall port and IP in the
    connection string. But apart from that, is there any other
    setting I need to do (on firewall or for the connectionstring)
    to deal with this problem?
    Someone had suggested to punch a hole in the firewall for the DB
    port - but we can not really do that in the current scenario...
    I would appreciate if anyone could share their experience
    regarding how they resolved this issue.
    Thanks in advance,
    Vijaya.

    One more question -
    Can we use Oracle JDBC OCI driver? We do not have any appletes...
    Does it have firewall issues too? Is there any other driver that
    we can use?
    Thanks,
    Vijaya.

  • Firewall problem in domain environment

    I have built two domains for testing purposes. Having deployed domain controllers, exchange servers, sccm/scom servers, sql servers along with some client computers I noticed that I had problems accessing some of servers/clients - I could not manage
    some of them directly with manage command from domain controller or access them via unc path. Some of them I could not ping neither. I was able to solve these problems by changing inbound firewall rules on these machines thus
    allowing some connections such as smb-in, dcom-in . . . In my production environment (I have been working there as system engineer for almost seven years) I have never had these problems - any domain member, whether it has been server or client, was easily
    accessible (managed from dc, unc, ping, . . .). I could deploy GPO with all necessary settings for inbound rules but it should be done automatically - as soon as machine is joined to the domain it must be accessible by using at least common protocols such as
    dcom, smb for managing or simple file copy operation. I checked my production environment again and there were no GPOs for altering default firewall settings on domain member computers so I have no idea why this is happening in my testing domains.

    No one but me has access to these machines. Also Symantec Endpoint Protection software is installed on these machines as it is the case with my production machines where everything is functioning flawlessly - as I mentioned I can access all my machines
    in production domain via computer management, smb, ping . . . One of my test domains has FFL/DFL Windows Server 2008 R2,  the same as my production domain, the other one has FFL/DFL Windows Server 2012 R2 and it is created for learning purposes. As I
    said, in both test domains, all domain computers have SEP installed - the same version and configuration as on my production machines. I have not done anything related to firewall in my test domains on problematic machines - I installed OS on them, joined
    to the domain, installed SEP and afterwards I have worked with specific product machine was created for - SCCM/SCOM, Exchange, SQL . . . servers and their clients.

  • Firewall problem when encrypting/decryting a file

    Hi,
    I'm a little bit new to cryptography.
    When I encrypt a file using the javax.crypto classes, my firewall pops up and says "java.exe is attempting to connect to a DNS Server".
    If I block the firewall, nothing else happens and the file gets encrypted as well. But I don't want to insecure all my customers having this firewall alerts.
    Can anyone help me to stop that ? Thanks in advance,

    import java.io.FileInputStream;
    import java.io.FileOutputStream;
    import java.security.GeneralSecurityException;
    import javax.crypto.Cipher;
    import javax.crypto.CipherInputStream;
    import javax.crypto.SecretKey;
    import javax.crypto.SecretKeyFactory;
    import javax.crypto.spec.DESedeKeySpec;
    public class TestCrypt {

              DESedeKeySpec desedeKeySpec = new DESedeKeySpec(keyArray);
              SecretKeyFactory keyFactory = SecretKeyFactory.getInstance("DESede");
              SecretKey key = keyFactory.generateSecret(desedeKeySpec);
              Cipher cip = Cipher.getInstance("DESede");
              cip.init(Cipher.ENCRYPT_MODE, key);
              FileInputStream fis = new FileInputStream(inFilename);
              CipherInputStream cis = new CipherInputStream(fis, cip);
              FileOutputStream fos = new FileOutputStream(outFilename);
              byte[] b = new byte[1024];
              int i = cis.read(b);
              while (i != -1) {
                   fos.write(b, 0, i);
                   i = cis.read(b);
              fos.close();
              cis.close();
    }

    What version of Windows are you using, and what kind of security-related software are you running on the PC? Have you tried executing your code on a Linux/UNIX machine? It is highly unlikely that you'll see the problem on that platform - but if you do, there are tools where you can trace the execution of the JVM and filter it for name-service API calls to see where it is being initiated from.
    I would still bet that some software on your PC is causing the outbound call.

    I get a message on the logger screen that states:
    "nbm filewall failed to read configuration from ds"
    What is actuall happening is all traffic is blocked as the exceptions do
    not seem to be working.
    I have checked ds and all looks healthy.
    Any ideas. I have been forced to disable filters on the public interface
    until I can fix the problem.
    Thanks,

    Sorry but this is the wrong forum. You need to go to
    novell.support.bordermanager.packet-filtering. This forum is for the
    Novell Client Firewall that comes with BM 3.8
