ARD Looses IP address in client settings

I have several Mac Mini's and PC's at a remote site behind a router. I have assigned specific ports to forward communication to these computers. All computers use the same external IP address. Each Mac or PC can be observed or controlled when they are set up but ARD frequently looses the external IP in the client settings when I check another computer on the same network. This forces me to have to edit each client setting and does not always work unless I delete and recreate that client.
I would appreciate any help to resolve this issue.

All Macs behind the router/firewall have full ARD functionality when connected but do not retain the external IP address in settings if more than one device has that same IP. Each device on the network PC and Mac have specific VNC ports, 5900-19. Needless to say the PC's do not have full ARD functionality but do operate very efficiently as a VNC.
My problem is that ARD unlike other remote desktop products does not seem to have the ability to retain the external IP in settings even though each device has a unique port setting. ARD does have some very nice features but but in my opinion this is more than a shortcoming in the product... this is a bug. I'm really hoping that someone has experienced this issue and has a workaround or I may have to scrap ARD and go to something else.

  • "package" ARD and VNC client settings?

    Hi-
I work in a school, and manage @ 1,100 student iBooks. I'm trying to figure out how to create a package that performs the same functions as the "Change Client Settings" feature under the "Manage" Menu. We use external HD's to reimage the computers, and add packages to this HD that are installed post flight. Right now I have to do the reimaging, then use the "Change Client Settings Feature" seperately, then finally run a package that pushes out the VNC password, (com.apple.VNCSettings.txt) that is in the /Library/Preferences folder.
We set up the computers so VNC is enabled, and the teacher account on the machine can use ARD.
Any thoughts, ideas, or it can't be done's would be great.
    Thanks!
    Jim
    Mostly iBook G4's and G'3's Mac OS X (10.4.7) I use a MacMini w/ ARD 3.1 Admin

I have found that reverse DNS entries, especially when they are wrong, can really mess things up. If you haven't already, in your ARD scanner windows, right-click and add the "DNS Name" column, and adjust the columns so you can see it. Whenever you have problems connecting in ARD, that's always a quick thing you can check. If the DNS name does not match your computer name, you'll have problems.
I don't think you gave enough detail of what is and isn't working, but in general, you can try connecting both with dns names and IP addresses, and connecting to Macs sometimes works better by putting their name as macname.local instead of macname.yourdomain.com.
If you try to connect with VNC via IP address, and the IP addresses on your servers are static (should be), and it doesn't work, it very likely could be a firewall setting. Even if you have the firewall off or ports open, you'll want to run a port scan against the server in question to test what truly is open.
This is all general stuff. Post something more specific if none of this helps (detail of OS versions, programs used, ports set open, any error messages, etc).
    Good luck

  • Wireless client keep loosing IP address.

    Hi,
I am in hot water, i am not good with wireless i have wireless LAN in my network which is connected to wired network. the problem is my clients get connected to the network but suddently they loose connectivity and start dhcp request and get limited connecitivity with automatic ip address.
My network design is like this.
    1. I have a three floor building every floor has its own core and access layer and floors are connected layer 3 (not usual layer 2).
    2. Wireless Controllers 4402 are in layer 3 mode and are on ground floor and AP are everywhere in building.
    3. Wireless controllers are connected to ground floor core using a VLAN say VLAN 205 and AP's on ground floor and other floors are in different VLANs (physical connectivity of AP's).
    4. controllers are configured for two different VLAN's say VLAN 212 for data and VLAN 213 for voice.
    5. VLAN interface of the controller is configured with right helper address for DHCP.
My problem is i am a bit confused with the desigh of the network. As i mentioned all floors are connected layer 3 it means seperate VTP domain and seperate VLAN's, all APs on all floors are in differnt IP subnet respectively. but the wireless VLAN is common for all the users on all floors, this is the bit which confuses me alot. the wireless data VLAN has its own IP subnet which is advertised from gound floor only (make sense) but the users are not connecting to ground floor APs only they are connecting everywhere in the building. Users are getting IP address from the wireless VLAN range on every floor, can anybody explain me how they are getting communication because wireless subnet is only local to ground floor core not to first floor or second floor but some people are connecting to 1st floor and 2nd floor AP and are working fine.
The next pain is that my laptops started loosing IP address and they get automatic private IP address hence loose connectivity, the communication issue i referred above is secondary i am actually looking to rectify the ip address issue because users are having problem with it. Signal strength on every floor is perfect and coverage is ok, i have tried to debug dhcp detail packet but i don't receive any because controllers are in differnt VLAN for physical connectivity. Can somebody help me with this thing?
    Regards,

Your wireless clients will associate to the best AP interms of signal strenght and signal to noise etc.
There is an LWAPP tunnel between the access point and the controller.
At the controller there will be logical interfaces for the wireless LANS that are asssociated to specific VLANs on the wired network.
It doesn't matter where you are in the building as a client as its the controller that puts the client data onto the wired network.
All client data is tunneled between the access point and the controller.
With regard to the losing IP address situation. I assume that the clients do initially get an IP address and then lose it after a period of time.
Check the session timeout paramter on the controller (look on the WLAN-Advanced).
There is a bug with some versions of software relating to session timeouts. Try setting the timeout to 65535 seconds. The default setting is probably 30 minutes.

  • Client Settings

    Hi,
I have a Default Client Settings and a Custom Device Client Settings.
Custom Device Client Settings is deployed only to a collection named "test" and default client setting is not deployed to any collections at all. I enabled hardware inventory in Custom Device Client Settings to see some reports regarding installed
Programs on computers which are in test collection. I was expecting to see computers only from test collection but I see computers which are not in test collection. If we dont deploy any client settings to a collection, do that collection get default client
    settings?
    Yavuz Selim Atmaca

Correct. Default Client Settings are by default applied to clients.

  • IP Address of Client after IISProxy.dll configured

    Hi,
We have a requirement to capture IP address of client. we are able to do it when the users access the portal from inside the firewall using portal url. http://<servername>:port/irj
but when users access the portal outside the firewall we have IISproxy.dll configured which redirects requests from IIS server to our ep server. so everytime when we try to capture ip address we get the ipaddress of the  IIS web server instead of user ip address.
one possible way could be get the ip address of the user on IIS server and send it as a parameter in redirected request to ep server.
    Any suggestions?

In the XML Config file you have to have the following
    <filter name="IisProxy filter" <b>remote-address="forward"</b>>
This will then forward the clients IP address to the J2EE server
    I hope this helps

  • Client Settings Sharing the Same Priority

I have a dozen Client Settings and noticed that two of my Client Settings share the same priority (Priority 5) and one of them skips two priorities (10 & 11), see screenshot.  Increasing or decreasing the priority
on these dose not seem to reset the priority number, i.e. if I decrease #9 it moves to #12 and #12 to #9 and the same if I increase #12.  I was hoping increaseing #12 would reset it to #11 but that's not the case.   The same goes for the two #5's,
they stay no mater what I do.
Anyone seen this?  Any thoughts? I do not know if it is effecting anything and the 9/12 ones don't consern me as much as the two 5's do.  I'm not sure which #5 has more priority then the other.

    Hi,
I recommend you delete the Client Settings then recreate them.
Below is a workaround for your reference. You’d better call CSS first, as this workaround is not a supported configuration and not eligible for official support.
    Connected to Database CM_XXX.
    Run the following query :
    select * from dbo.clientsettings
Take the Client agent setting's uniqueid
    Run the following query :
    Update dbo.ClientSettings set Priority=5
    where UniqueID='{A38602E1-AEC1-43F9-B3E1-CF2155099D2E}'
Check the priority on the console now.

  • In SCCM 2012 hierarchy client settings

In Sccm 2012 hierarchy how client settings will work in ex:CAS with two primary sites
do i have to create client settings from both the primary sites or i can create them from CAS.
    how this should be.

Client Settings are part of global data and will replicate to all primary sites and the CAS regardless of where you create them. As Peter points out though, you shouldn't generally be performing any administration on primary sites when you have a CAS though

  • PAB Distribution List outlook 2003 xp migrated to win7 Outlook 2010 looses all addresses in the Group

Have a user that has PAB Distribution List outlook 2003 xp and  migrated to win7 Outlook 2010 looses all addresses in the Group/Distro List group imports, just will not show addresses in the distro or it removes them.
I opened the same PAB and distro on a xp computer with office 2003 after user complained none of the contacts in the distro where in there.. and using the same PAB on both computers the group contacts where populated... but do not appear on outlook 2010
    win7.
The Distro/Group is a personally created distro by the user, not an exchange server stored distro/group so its not a exchange issue.
Ive searched the net .. cant find anything on the issue.. don't know if its a MS bug, or something is switched on or off, Registry issue ??
Need a real answer to this , and can not use a third party app, must be resolved with existing apps, very strict enviroment
    Thanks in Advance

    Hi everyone,
I have the exact same problem. When I import a 2003 PAB into Outlook 2010, There are no contacts displayed. The address book itself seems to be imported (I can select the address book when creating an e-mail), but again, no contact exist in the imported
    PAB.

  • DHCP still giving out addresses to clients on the Deny filter

My DHCP server is handing out addresses to clients that I have put on the deny list. The "Enable Deny List" is checked. Its not to every client either. It is just a handful that keeps popping back. What am I missing?

    Hi Alphateam,
Have you confirmed that the deny is on all interfaces, wired and wireless of said machines.

  • How to get MAC address from client machine ?

    Hi dear,
We are implementing security measures for a banking system, so it is required that we track the MAC address of the registered clients along with other parameters. How do we get the MAC address from client machine using ADF or running scripts in client side?
    thanks all

    Hi,
    Welcome to OTN.
Your question has nothing to do with ADF as such. Googling would give you plenty of such topics.

  • How to manually retrieve Default Client Settings again

I have a question about Default Client Settings in SCCM 2012.
In our Default Client Settings we've added two AD groups for Viewers of Remote Control and Remote Assistance (Administration>Client Settings>Default Client Settings>Properties>Remote Tools> Permitted viewers and then Set Viewers).
When I logon to a client computer and open Local User manager I can see these two AD groups added to the local group "ConfigMgr Remote Control Users".
For testing I removed one of the member groups that was added.
Now the question; How does the removed group come back to the client? I've ran all the Configuration Manager Actions on the client but this doesn't work. It doesn't add the member which I removed. I also waited 60 minutes to see if it would come back automatically,
but no. Of course I can manually add this group again, but that is not what I want.
Or is the local group for Remote Control only filled the first time the Configuration Manager Client is installed on a computer? Or maybe there is another mechanism which takes care of filling the Remote Control Users group?

Today I added a new AD group to "Viewers".
After that, I ran the machine policy retrieval on my client on which I previously removed a group. After I ran this, de ConfigMgr Remote Control Users group was filled again. This time with 3 AD groups. So the group I removed before was added again and my new
    group was also added.
Conclusion; if I make a change to the Default Client Settings it will push all the settings again to a client. But if you make a change locally, like removing a group, SCCM won't update this group again. It seems it doesn't do a verify on local settings
unless something has changed in SCCM itself. Indeed it seems to imply a bug.

  • Client Settings for Device collections Vs Client Settings for User collections

I noticed there are "Client Settings" set for each User and Group in SCCM. I want all my "Client Settings" configured by Device Collections not User Collections, what can I do? Can someone explain the difference between those?
    Thanks
    James A+, Network+, MCP

One is for user settings on a client and the other is for device settings on a client. As you can imagine user settings can only be deployed to user collections and device settings can only be deployed to device collections.

  • Client Settings and RBAC

When we first setup RBAC, we created a Departmental Admin role that could create, modify and delete...basically was given all of the permissions for the Client Settings class since the objects are securable via scope therefore Departmental
Admins could not modify or delete the Default Client Settings or any of the Custom Client Settings outside their scope. This was working for us for the last 6 months and now all of a sudden, those same Departmental Admins now have the ability to modify
the Default Client Settings rule but still not any custom client settings outside their scope and I can't figure out why? It's as if the scope for the Default Client Settings rule as changed and I have no idea on how to tell since the console
doesn't show any scope for the Default Settings? Any idea on how this might have happened or how to fix it?

Yes, I know this is an old post, but I’m trying to clean them up. Did you solve this problem, if so what was the solution?
Within the CM12 R2 Toolkit, look at RBAview, this will help you understand what each user can or can’t do.
