I'm part of Indiana University's student government and we are trying to implement a tablet initiative for our school. Are there any special deals or grants available to universities regarding iPads? Any comments or help is much appreciated. Thanks!

But Apple has been known to offer all sorts of specifically negotiated deals with Universities - especially large schools with a large Apple footprint already on campus (in the form of student sales, or University corporate sales). Some schools for example, have negotiated a special 3-year AppleCare program for computers sold through their campus Apple education store, offering a total of 4 years of coverage on Apple computers bought (so an incoming student would be covered for their whole degree program). There have also been specials offered in some schools that might include some BTO options at the regular base-model shelf prices, again, if purchased by a student through the school's specific Apple education store.
If some school wanted to do a large implementation of iPads, they might be able to negotiate some deal to be offered in their school-specific education store that could include some significant offerings albeit not actual price discounts. But the OP cannot negotiate on behalf of his school as he is not an officer of the University corporation - but he can always approach University officials with an idea he'd like them to pitch to the school's Apple reps.

I have a mid 2012 MacBook Pro and it started to beep for the first time when I started up today. I think it was 3 continuous beeps then a pause. It sounded like an alarm and totally freaked me out. I have two facetime users, both connecting to our enterprise wireless network (Cisco WCS) and they can't make a facetime connection from IPAD to IPAD. Are there any apple protocols or other settings that need to be enabled on WCS? No firewall involved.

If anyone ever comes across this and has the same issue, here's what I did to fix it:
My Linksys router has a Network Mode setting, and I had to change it from "Mixed" to "Wireless-G only". (I would've used N but one of the NICs in my house is too old to support it.) Anyway, after making this change, Facetime works fine on the phone. Hope this helps someone else!

I'm not sure where on the internet or which store you mean -- but if you mean an Apple advertisement on the internet and an Apple Store, note that there was an ad for MacBooks that showed them with a variety of stickers but Apple does't sell the stickers and not all of the ones shown in the ad were commercially available.

As an illustrator and designer, I would be using the ipad2 more as a digital sketchpad or digital canvas for my work. Since so many artists and designers use apple products, I am just wondering why apple doesn't have styluses or brushes that they sanction. I would much rather pay more for something that apple makes than for a third party item. Ideally, I am looking for a stylus that draws and a brush that paints with the same speed and ease of the real thing. Is there anything out there that can draw/paint directly onto the Ipad2?

1. Open the disk utility, hope your iPod appears there (left hand side), highlight it
2. Go to Tab “Partition”, click either “Delete” or “Partition”, if fails, skip this step and go to 3
3. Go to Tab “Erase” , choose Volume Format as “MAC OS Extended (Journaled), and click Erase, again if fails, skip it and go to 4
4. Same as step 3, but open the “Security Options....” and choose “Zero Out Data” before click Erase. It will take 1 to 2 hours to complete.
5. Eject your iPod and do a Reset
6. Open the iTunes 7 and click “Restore”
For Window computer
Go to folder “My Computer”
Hope you can see your iPod there and right click on the iPod
Choose “Format”. Ensure the settings are at “Default” and that “Quick Format” is not checked
Now select “Format”
Eject your iPod and do a Reset
Open the iTunes 7 and click “Restore”
In case you do not manage to do a “Format” on a window computer, try to use some 3rd party disk utility software, e.g.“HP USB Disk Storage Format Tool”.

C. Windows users having trouble with their iPods should locate a Mac user. In many cases when an iPod won't show up on a PC that it will show up on the Mac. Then it can be restored. When the PC user returns to his computer the iPod will be recognized by the PC, reformatted for the PC, and usable again. By the way, it works in reverse too. A Mac user often can get his iPod back by connecting it to a PC and restoring it.
Tips
a. It does not matter whether the format is completed or not, the key is to erase (or partly) the corrupted firmware files on the Hard Drive of the iPod. After that, when the iPod re-connected with a computer, it will be recognized as an fresh external hard drive, it will show up on the iTunes 7.
b. It is not a difficult issue for a Mac user to find a window base computer, for a PC user, if they can’t find any Mac user, they can go to a nearest Apple Shop for a favor.
c. You may need to switch around the PC and Mac, try to do several attempts between “Format” and “Restore”

A. Diagnostic mode solution
If you have tried trouble shooting your iPod to no avail after all the steps above, chances are your iPod has a hardware problem. The iPod's built-in Diagnostic Mode is a quick and easy way to determine if you have a "bad" iPod.
You need to restart your iPod before putting it into Diagnostic Mode. Check that your hold switch is off by sliding the switch away from the headphone jack. Toggle it on and off to be safe.
Press and hold the following combination of buttons simultaneously for approximately 10 seconds to reset the iPod.
iPod 1G to 3G: "Menu" and "Play/Pause"
iPod 4G+ (includes Photo, Nano, Video, and Mini): "Menu" and "Select"
The Apple logo will appear and you should feel the hard drive spinning up. Press and hold the following sequence of buttons:
iPod 1G to 3G: "REW", "FFW" and "Select"
iPod 4G+ (includes Photo, Nano, Video, and Mini): "Back" and "Select"
You will hear an audible chirp sound (3G models and higher) and the Apple logo should appear backwards. You are now in Diagnostic Mode. Navigate the list of tests using "REW" and "FFW". Try to do the 5in1, HDD R/W and HDD scan tests. Some successful cases have been reported after the running the few tests under the Diagnostic mode. In case it does not work in your case, and the scan tests reports show some errors then it proves your iPod has a hardware problem and it needs a repairing service.
B. Format your iPod with a start disk
I have not tried this solution myself, I heard that there were few successful cases that the users managed to get their iPod (you must put your iPod in disk mode before connecting with a computer) mounted by the computer, which was booted by a system startup disk. For Mac, you can use the Disk Utility (on the Tiger OS system disk), for PC user, you can use the window OS system disk. Try to find a way to reformat your iPod, again it does not matter which format (FAT32, NTFS or HFS+) you choose, the key is to erase the corrupted system files on the iPod. Then eject your iPod and do a Reset to switch out from Disk Mode. Reboot your computer at the normal way, connect your iPod back with it, open the iPod updater, and hopefully your iPod will appear there for the Restore.
If none of these steps address the issue, your iPod may need to be repaired.

In Hong Kong there are some electronic shops offering an iPod service for Sad iPod, the first thing they do is to open up the iPod’s case and disconnecting the battery and the Hard Drive from the main board of the iPod. Wait for 5-10 minutes and reconnecting them back. The reason behind which I can think of is to do a fully reset of a processor of the iPod. In case you want do it itself and you believe that you are good on fixing the electronics devices and have experience to deal with small bits of electronic parts, then you can read the following of how to open the iPod case for battery and HDD replacement (with Quicktimes)

Have I tried these myself? No, I am afraid to do it myself as I am squeamish about tinkering inside electronic devices, I have few experiences that either I broke the parts (which are normally tiny or fragile) or failed to put the parts back to the main case. Jan 21st Played yesterday black today. Feb 28th Intermittent white outs march 8th Movie can't be saved now today another white out 85%.
So, what happened this time? I created photoshop psd file in photoshop cs, file sizes were 774 px x 480 px at 200 resolution I animated said files in Image ready and saved as QT's I also used Norcross morphx and saved those as QT's.

On the past saved movies that I had problems w, in properties/resources/source it shows many sources of the mini movies that were used to create the final large movie, when I click them, they open as the mini they are, except for one which titles as unavailable.
On todays movie it shows movie title source (won't open) and one other which opens as only one of the mini's I used, the others are not there.
Yesterday I cleaned out all other movies players Avi/real etc I also dumped QT ran disc utility. I then re-downloaded QT , Perian and Realplayer redid all my art created new mini's made my animation movie, it came out great and today I have %^%.
My first question is does
QT work w/photoshop/psd's that are opened in Image ready converted to animations then saved as QT"s
2. Doe's QT have problems w/200 resolution (which it converts to 72 and make the screen larger)
3. Does QT work w/Norkoss morphx morphs that are saved as QT's
3. Is there a problem w/saved morphs in QT and saved Adobe files in QT.
4. FileXaminer could not find files titled unavailable.
My reality is that as a process adobe/QT seems great, as a finished product, It's been "a highway to ****". I was going to give my QT to my kids to play around with (what was I thinking)
I guess the real question is, does anyone out there have a clue what's wrong with my process or what I am doing wrong, and why is my hair getting white.
This is really a last ditch effort!!!!!!!!

I hope I am not driving you crazy, I still have a couple more questions to enable me with a better understanding and also to understand if it is possible for me to get a better pic than a gif.
a. when I open swf files in swf player and convert them to images they save as tiffs, as you mentioned w/MorphX that also saves as tiffs.
b. The psd's when I compared size to a mov showed psd 10.1 MB mov 480kb big difference as they are 3 sec files. I took the same psd and saved it as a tiff 10.1 MB.
So, the problem here as I understand it is that the file size per second is to big as in the MorphX 2.3MB per sec but, if I take the 20 layers of the Morphx as tiffs/psd's and each one is a separate file I could import them directly through image sequence to QT. What I find confusing is they are still the same MB size per second.
You know what Kirk, if that's what it takes then that is really to much time and effort to try and get a decent animation I can't even begin to think of how many flat files I would have to create for a four minute animation. Actually I can 4 mins = 240 secs x 20 files = 4800 aahhh

Genius Bar, includes a list of all the Genius Bar in Florida. ( grey box right side of page ) This page will also let you book an appointment for the Genius Bar; that way you can wal into the store at the time of your appoinment and get help right away.
Apple Retail Store, include the option to find store by zipcode. This would show you see the closest store on a map. If you click on one of the stores listed, then click on hours and information, you should end up on the Apple Web Page for that store. If the store include a genius bar, there will be a link on the top right corner of the page to book an appointment for the Genius Bar.
Service and Repair, should give you access to all your servicing options. If there is no a Genius Bar close by, you might be able to arrange for mail in repair.
What ever service options you chose, I would highly suggest backing up your iPad. Ether using a computer, and or by iCloud. Some times repairing a product means they have to swap out the product for a replacement.

I bought Logic Pro 9, January this year, and saw that the song Helena Beat by Foster the People included as a demo project.
I wonder if there are any other demo projects available for download somewhere? Helena Beat isn't exactly the kind of music I am composing, so it would be great if there were any other genres available somewhere.

Apple's iOS platform (iPhone, iPad, and iPod Touch) has never, and will never support flash.
First on this; Thoughts on Flash. This is from Steve Jobs regarding Apple's views on Flash (2010)
Second; Adobe stops making Flash for mobile devices. This is from Adobe themselves last year stating that they would stop making Flash for mobile devices.
If you can find the App equivalent of the programs you are looking for, then congratulations, however, if you require specific 'programs' requiring flash, then the iPad is certainly not for you, and returning it would be the best choice (granted you are still within the return period).
