Are you considering to buy an eReader?

If you are considering to buy an eReader, as a recent Sony consumer, I suggest you don't!
My eReader was bought for me less than a month ago. It was my first eReader and I was incredibly excited so I went out and bought a load of accessories including a cover. Last week I popped my eReader in my handbag (it was in it's cover) so I could read my book while my boyfriend was playing soccer. When i arrived at soccer, i pulled out my eReader and there were two perpendicular lines intersecting one another on my screen. My screen wasn't cracked but it seemed cracked on the inside. I was gutted as I had the eReader in a cover and it had only been in my bag with a few other things (of which weren't sharp or heavy).
I took my eReader back to the place where I had bought it from. I was served by a manager and they said to me "we get these back all the time for this problem. It can be sent off to be assessed but you'll never get anywhere as they will always just claim damage so it voids your warranty". I was so disappointed but nonetheless rang Sony for assistance as I thought that they may have been exaggerating or they would acknowledge the fact that my product was less than a month old and that at least I had a protective case. When I rang Sony they pretty much said that it had to be assessed to which I have to pay for. So I guess from my experience, please don't waste $180 on a"delicate" product that should be designed to be transported around in a protective case unless you wish to keep it locked in a glass cabinet for no one to touch.

Most damaged or broken screen is not covered under standard warranty. It's not always that the screen has to be hit by a sharp or heavy object to become damaged or borken. The screen on your eReader has thin layers of glass with dark liquid crystal material in between. The glass is covered on the outside by layer of plastic. Cracks in the glass cannot be felt due to the plastic covering which rarely breaks or is fractured. Customers often feel that there cannot be a broken display because they could not feel a break. We would like to offer you a free evaluation for your eReader to confirm if it was physical damage or not. If all possible, please provide us the event ID case number when you contacted Sony support? We'll forward that case to one of our agent for following up.
