Arial Narrow Font not embedded PDF when generated on server

Hi,
I'm struggling with some font issues. My report contains only Arial or Arial Narrow subset font. These fonts are installed on all client and server machines. When I render the report locally and export it to pdf then everything works fine, the report looks
ok and when checking the pdf properties the Arial narrow font has been embedded. After deploying it to a SSRS server 2008 R2 and render it from this server the export to pdf converts the Arial Narrow font to Helvetica messing up my report.
Any ideas how to maintain the Arial Narrow font?
As far as I can tell every condition as described in http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/ms159713(SQL.100).aspx are met.

Hi hans0305,
According to your description that you have problem with the font in the PDF, The font type is correct when you export report to PDF in the Preview but font changed from Arial Narrow to Helvetica when export to PDF in the Report Server, right?
This problem is related to the font-embedding of PDF. The font Arial Narrow haven’t embedded successfully to the PDF. Please check in the client machine which the report server and report manger located to make sure the Arial Narrow font have been installed
correctly by enter the Control Panel and select the “Font”.
For the client machine, closing all instances of the PDF viewer then reopening them should fix the issue. If the issue still persists, you may need a full machine reboot to get the client/server to recognize the newly installed font, you can also try an
reinstall of the font Arial Narrow.

  • Why Arial Narrow font not working on my blog?

I have one blog name http://articlezeneu.blogspot.com/, I have used Arial Narrow font at Post title. On Chrome and IE, it's working but on firefox it shows Arial.
Can anyone can solve my problem?

You may have to use extra CSS properties on Windows to make Firefox use the Arial Narrow font: font-stretch:condensed
When DirectWrite rendering is used rather than GDI rendering, font families are grouped differently.<br />
How a browser reacts here will depend on which font subsystem it's using.<br />
Windows has two different font subsystems: GDI and DirectWrite.

  • CS6 - Arial Narrow fonts do not show up

I installed CS6 on a brand new computer with Win 7 Pro 64 bit.  The arial narrow font will not show up in the pull down menu for fonts.  This seems to be a common problem as there are a lot of results when searched online.  I tried several of the solutions, but none have worked.  Some people have said it is a Microsoft Office thing.  I found a hotfix for Office 2007, but I am using Office 2010 so the hotfix does not apply.  Has anybody ever figured this out?  Please help.

  • Illustrator CS2 Suddenly not Recognizing Arial Narrow Fonts

I created a graphic earlier today that used Arial Narrow Bold Italic. Later on today I had to update the graphic with new information and now it is telling me I don't have the font installed. The Arial Narrow fonts are in the fonts folder and are recognized by all other CS apps, Office apps, etc. I have replaced the fonts countless times since getting this message, restarted my computer, all to no avail. I eventually had to go to another computer to do the update. I even tried copying the fonts from that computer to mine and I still get the same error in Illustrator.
I don't know what the heck happened. I didn't install any new fonts between the time I made the graphic and the time I tried to update it. Do I need to re-install Illustrator? I need to know ASAP, as I will be updating this graphic tomorrow and of course would still like to use Arial Narrow in Illustrator.
Thanks in advance for any help.
    Btw, I'm on WinXP SP2.

I had the same problem when I upgraded to CS3. Haven't explored the reasoning behind it but did try resetting (deleting) several PREF files, reinstalling the font, but nothing changed. I did find the following: Select ARIAL font and under FONT STYLE select the NARROW option. This will be give you the equivalent of NARROW REGULAR but there are no direct style options for italic, bold, or bold italic. Since I don't use the font that much, my only work around was to apply a stroke of .15-.25pt to the text for bold and a 20° shear for italic.
If anybody's got a answer to why ARIAL NARROW got wrapped as a font style of ARIAL and not just a font, such ARIAL BLACK, etc., it would be greatly appreciated.

  • Problems with reader an arial narrow font

like the title of the thread says , y have a problem opening some pdfs , not with all , the problem is an error message telling me that  the arial narrow font is not available and the pdf is filled with dots instead of characters . I´ve tried to change fonts folder in windows but it didnt result , so i dont know what to do , i´ve also tried use the option of use local fonts only but it doesn´t works.
PD: Sorry for my bad english , I hope someone could help me , thanks in advance

I believe the .lst font files only exist on mac, and the PC .lst file are some MS office format.
Have not used amp font viewer as I have suitcase on my Win machine, but try closing all unnecesary fonts, especially arial narrow. I do remember an ID conflict with one of the olders versions of Helvetica Neu with arial.
Did this used to work before and is something that started up recently, you may want to look into what new installs you had, search through and kill your processes one by one, or do a system restore.
Finally I would look at your copy of arial bold, and disbale that and install and opentype version. The newer opentype version will probably use one fo the newer FOND IDs adn you will have access to more characters and be crossplatfrom. If you cannot disbale arial bold, then it is the version that is one of the sytem core fonts, and you can try repairing your windows install which may replace that.
You may have a bad sector, run checkdisk

  • Fonts not Embedded

    Hi everyone,
I am using InDesign CS 5.5. We make pdf but my some fonts not embedded. We use all fonts are opentype.
    (1) We use font Agent Pro then same problem appear
    (2) If we place fonts in InDesign Fonts folder again same problem appear in PDF files.
Kindly suggest what we do thank you so much.

    >my some fonts not embedded
Rhe only font in that image that doesn't say "embedded" -- the one you highlight -- says "embedded subset". That is the SAME as "embedded".
(Not really of course, but the difference is much less than with what you seemed to think: that if a font status is NOT showing the exact text "embedded", then it must mean it is "not embedded". That is simply not true.)

why is that we insist on seeing the source file ?
There is no one way of doing things in flash and no one can

  • Fonts not embedding when "save as" pdf

Version: Photoshop CS4 64 bit on Windows Vista 64.
Issue: fonts not getting embedded during conversion to pdf.
I am attempting to save files for commercial printing in Photoshop pdf format (file-save as-pdf). In the past, using previous versions of Photoshop, the fonts have always been embedded in the pdf document when I choose the "Press Quality" pdf preset. However, now, even when I simplify my Photoshop source file down to the most basic level (one non-background layer with one line of type using a font I KNOW has successfully embedded before) the resulting pdf reports NO embedded fonts (no fonts at all, actually) and when sized up a great deal in Acrobat Pro shows pixelation as though the type was converted to a graphic. If I open the resulting pdf file in Photoshop the text is still editable though...
I have Photoshop files that were built using a previous version of Photoshop (CS2). When I open these in Photoshop CS4 and save as pdf the fonts are embedded just as they always were so the problem lies not with the CS4 version of Photoshop itself but rather with NEW files created by it. It seems that any NEW files I create using Photoshop CS4 wil not embed their fonts when saved as pdfs.
    Help !!?!! (example file attached)

Good points. To test that out I tried substituting different non-commercial fonts (Arial, Tahoma, Times, etc.) and then saving as a pdf. No matter what fonts I try they don't get embedded. So that would seem to rule out the idea that Photoshop CS4 is now restricting the embedding of fonts to non-commercial ones.
I have poured through the save-as-pdf options in GREAT detail - have tried many various options and don't see any settings that have either made a difference or seem relevant. According to Adobe documentation anytime you select "Press Quality" as the preset the fonts should automatically be embedded.
The really odd thing is, if I take a psd file that was originally created using a previous version of Photoshop, delete all the layers and then create one single line type layer so that it is identical in every way to my CS4 test file, any font I select gets embedded when I convert that file to pdf - same exact pdf preset - all file settings the same - everything! - except that it was originally created using a previous Photoshop version.
    Does that make ANY sense??

  • Fonts not embedding when making PDF from PM 7.1

In making a PDF from a PM file, I am having trouble getting the fonts to embed.  The interesting thing is that the fonts that are not embedding are Times Roman and Arial; other fonts are being embedded.  These fonts are installed and I have the "Embed Box" checked in the job type font options.
I'm using Windows XP SP2 OS and Acrobat 7.0 Pro.
Should the fonts be in a special folder ? Not sure what I'm mimssing here . . . .
I had SP3 installed for the OS and was having no trouble . . . . but then InDesign CS2 would not open PM files . . . At your recommendation I uninstalled SP3 but had to reinstall the OS which meant reinstalling PM and In Design CS2.
    Any suggestions?

PM7 will run just on WinSP3 provided it's a clean install. That is, you install WinXP SP2, clean, straight the setup disk, and then apply the service pack 3 update.  The usual problem is the unnecessary junk which Windows collects which screws things up.  See here: PM7 and WinXP SP3
I've now moved onto the Win7 and not even bothered with PM7, so I'm going on memory.
If InD CS2 says your PM files are corrupted, then I'd be worried.  It's time to run diagnostics and make sure you have backups.
Re:  the fonts, I suggest you check all your style palettes.
You could just create a PS file using any PS printer driver with the output as FILE:, and the load Distiller, input the PS file and create the PDF.  That's about as fool proof as it gets.
Also see my now ancient trouble shooter about creating PDFs using the Export… AdobePDF… macro here: Installing and Setting Up PM7's Export… Adobe PDF… using the “Application” CD-ROM   In this cae, make sure you are running PM7.01a - the update is here: PageMaker 7.0.1 update - English as there were some glytches when creating PDFs in the earlier macro.

  • Fonts Not Embedding Consistently with PDF Export - Inconsistent Fix and Unknown Cause

I have had ongoing problems with PDF export from FrameMaker. Sometimes the correct fonts do not embed in the PDF and Times New Roman is substituted. The problem appears and disappears and is causing me a lot of lost time and frustration.
I am running FrameMaker 9.0 fully patched on Windows 7 Ultimate 64-bit. I have seen people complain about this issue and am familiar with the suggested fixes. However, the exact cause and solution eludes me because the problem continues to recur and I am only able to recover with guesswork and workarounds.
    Initially I did the following:
    ACROBAT PDF SETTINGS
    - In the printer properties for Adobe PDF settings I turned off the option "Rely on system fonts only; do not use documents fonts."
    ACROBAT DISTILLER SETTING
Under "Font" Settings I changed the following:
    - Under "Settings/Font Locations" I added the font folder for Technical Communication Suite 2.0 and made sure all the fonts existed there and in the Windows default font directory.
    - Under "Settings/Edit Adobe PDF Setting/Fonts" I changed the following options:
                - Selected "Embed all fonts"
                - Under "Embedding" chose "Always Embed" for the target fonts.
I tweaked these settings for hours and got no results. Then I rebooted and the problem had magically disappeared. I fixed the issue in the same way on another machine and the results were permanent and I was just happy to finally have it fixed, But this time it didn't last.
I should note that upon reboot, when I used the stock "PDF Job Options," the correct fonts still embedded, leading me to believe that the fix had nothing to do with the changes I made to Distiller settings.
After reboot I generated PDFs with the correct fonts embedded. Then I shut down FM, but left the system running. The next morning I opened FM again and the same problem occurred.
So I rebooted again -- and the problem disappeared again. I therefore thought maybe the issue fixes on reboot but recurs when you shut down FM and reopen. So I shut down FM again and reopened, but it is still working fine for the moment.
I verified that the Adobe PDF settings under "Printers & Devices" that I turned off (Rely on system fonts only; do not use documents fonts) remained correctly unchecked through all these changes.
I would really like to know why this happens so I can resolve it permanently and avoid more lost time.
    Thanks in advance,
    Douglas

The common theme I'm seeing here is that the setting edits you make in
Distiller through the FM "Save As PDF" option don't seem to take effect.
Do you know if that is true or could you elaborate on the notorious nature
    of this method for me?
    >
There are too many potential and transient problems to list. The only thing
I can say is that I've been an active member of the FrameUsers listserv
    (http://lists.frameusers.com/mailman/listinfo/framers) since FM version 6.0,
circa 2001, and probably 95% of the PDF problems reported there have been
fixed simply by using print to Adobe PDF (or to Acrobat Distiller in older
PDF versions), instead of using Save as PDF. Common advice there has always
been to avoid Save as PDF and even some Adobe employees have recommended
against using it. It doesn't matter which FM version.
The once-busy FrameUsers listserve has been fading away, recently, as this
new Adobe forum software allows reading via e-mail, and attachment of
screenshots.  Even if you look around on this forum now, you'll probably
find that there are two main fixes for issues with PDF. One is NOT using
Save as PDF, which seems to fix a whole bunch of issues. The other is the
use of a Windows hotfix to squash a Windows OS bug that causes dropped
    characters in PDFs.
In the rare instances that someone has issues with printing to PDF, they are
almost always related to errors in settings. Or occasionally someone can't
embed fonts because they are trying to the embed the virtual fonts that come
with their printer driver instead of fonts that have actually been installed
on their computer. (The fonts are hard-wired on their printer, so the system
can use them but not embed them.)

  • Fonts not embedded in PDF -- how to fix?

I've been given a PDF that I need to place in an ID file (ID CS3).
Several fonts are not embedded in the PDF (Univers and Stone Informal) so Adobe MM fonts are being substituted, and I get error messages about the missing fonts when I place the PDF pages in my ID file.
I do happen to have all of the missing fonts, but loading them (and restarting Acrobat) didn't fix the problem. The PDF was created on Mac (according to the properties) so maybe my PC version of Acrobat isn't recognizing my fonts as being the same (font internal names or something being different?). When I try using Text Touch-Up, I'm told that, for example, the Stone Informal system font isn't available.
Is there any way to fix this problem? I have no way of getting the source files or another copy of the original PDF with fonts embedded.
FWIW, when I open one of the PDF pages in PS, PS does find my versions of the fonts and gives me no error messages. And I can see that the fonts are showing up correctly in the PS file.
But I'd rather not use a bitmap -- I want to use the original PDF if possible (if I can figure out how to embed my fonts in it).
The final product, BTW, will be a press-ready PDF of the ID file.
    TIA,
    Marlene

    I've got Acrobat 8.
So if there's no way to embed fonts in the original PDF, I assume they also will not embed when I drop the PDF into my ID file and then create a new PDF of the ID file?
I guess my only viable option is to open the PDF in PS and save the pages as TIFFs, and drop those into ID. I really hate to do that -- too much tiny text that gets fuzzy.

  • Fonts not embedding for iOS app in App Store

    Hi all,
I'm having an issue using embedded fonts. Currently, I use 6 or so font files throughout my app. These fonts all display properly in the AIR simulator, as well as developer builds installed on the actual device. The problem comes about when I make actual builds for the App Store. The only thing I'm changing is the provisioning file and certificate, and yet none of these fonts display correctly. It looks like it's defaulting to Arial or something, like when you set embedAsCFF incorrectly.
I'm currently waiting on a build to be approved where I can switch between two versions of the fonts, one as embedAsCFF=true, the other as embedAsCFF=false.
Because the stock SDK wasn't working, I'm using Apache Flex 4.11 SDK, with AIR 13 beta and I'm SURE that I installed the Font Embedding tools with the SDK. I just realized while writing this post that Flex 4.12 is now available, so I'll try to download and make a build with that.
Does anyone have any idea why these fonts would be missing when going from the developer build to the App Store build? The intensely frusterating thing about this is that everything will work in the test builds, and a week later when my update makes it to the app store it isn't working and I have to wait another week to try to fix it.

Don't worry it's not your device.  A lot of people using IO5 are having this problem for the past 6 hours.  Apple should address it soon.  If you need to search for apps you can either google the name of app in Safari and click on the link.  This should open the app in the App Store.  Other work around is if you have a program like AppShopper it will let you do a search that opens the App in the App Store.

  • D'oh! - Font not embedded in *live* iOS App.

    Hello everyone,
Yay! Our first digital Magazine is live.
    L+L MAG App
We have put a lot of work into it. Check it out
But now I want to cry
    Because of this...
    What's wrong?
The font (http://www.fontshop.com/fontlist/super_families/ff_din/) in one section of our app is not showing up correctly. On the menu in the 2nd screenshot you can (can't) see the arrows (Wingding Regular) turning into blocks.
We could not reproduce these errors during our local tests and we just realized this after the app went live.
    What we have done
Submitted and packaged the App from the same Mac on which we designed the magazine (inDesign)
Tested the app multiple times locally on our iPads
Please get in touch with me
    Oliver Ruehl

    Hi,
Maybe I have to start from another angle with 2 questions:
    1) How are fonts actually processed when packaged into an app?
We need to understand this for our inDesign production process for larger projects. What happens in detail?
    2) Is there some kind of limitation if a font is not licensed for use on the web etc.?
We own all the rights to the fonts in our app, but are we missing something here in regards to the license?
Are some fonts not integrated if they miss a license e.g. for web use?
I'd be happy to hear from you soon
