ASA 5505 + EZVPN Client
Good day all,
this is my network setup in one of our branch office.
LAN ---- inside(192.168.44.1) ASA outside(10.103.1.159) ---- ISP
The ISP is doing NAT and give us a IP via DHCP (PPPoE dial-in).
Now we want to set up the branch ASA to act as EZVPN client.
But when I add the config for example this one:
vpnclient server xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx
vpnclient mode network-extension-mode
vpnclient nem-st-autoconnect
vpnclient vpngroup eznemgroup password eznemgrouppass
vpnclient username eznemuser1 password eznemuser1pass
vpnclient enable
We loss Internet connectivity after the last command << vpnclient enable >>.
Problem is that we can only configure the ASA remotely.
Is this a normal behaviour for VPN client setup? I found nothing in the documentation?
Thanks for your feedback!
Brgds,
Markus
Hi Guys,
still struggling with the EZVPN setup.
This is instantaneous setup at the moment.
LAN ---- inside-(192.168.44.1) ASA outside-(DHCP private IP) ---- (private IP)-ISP Router-(public IP)
The ISP blocks UDP/500 and UDP/4500 so there is no way to setup a site-2-site VPN via IPsec.
So we tried to setup the ASA5505 as EZVPN client and configured to use TCP over IPsec. But without success. I think the problem is the private IP on our outside interface. Has someone face the same problem?
Thanks Markus

ASA 5505 L2TP client connect problem
I am trying to connect MS l2tp clients to asa 5505 and am unsuccessful. I have tried the ASDM VPN Wizard as well as CLI and missing something. I have attached my current config. My client hits the interface and logs an error 713048 Error processing payload: Payload ID: 1. I know I am missing something simple, but I just can't see it. HELP!!!! Please
ASA configuration needs to have the following configured ...
- The preshared key needs to match the one configured in the windows client setup.
- The authentication needs to match what you have configured on the client, pap or chap ..
If chap is configured you need to readd the usernames to the ASA with the mschap keyword
at the end .. e.g
SV2-2(config)# username msclient password msclient mschap
- The DefaultRAGroup needs to be configured with the preshared key and point to a policy
that include this vpn-tunnel-protocol IPSec l2tp-ipsec webvpn
The complete config is below ... DefaultRAGroup will be used if the preshared key is
added and nothing is specified on the client..
tunnel-group DefaultRAGroup general-attributes
address-pool vpnpool
tunnel-group DefaultRAGroup ipsec-attributes
pre-shared-key *
tunnel-group DefaultRAGroup ppp-attributes
authentication pap
authentication ms-chap-v2 -
ASA 5505 & VPN Client will not access remote lan
I have an ASA 5505 that is on the parimeter of a hub & spoke vpn network, when I connect to this device using the VPN client I can connect to any device accross the VPN ifrastructure with the exception of the subnet that the client is connected to, for instance:
VPN client internal network connects to 192.168.113.0 /24 and is issued that ip address 192.168.113.200, the VPN client can be pinged from another device in this network however the client cannot access anyting on this subnet, all other sites can be accesed ie. main site 192.168.16.0/24, second site 192.168.110/24 and third site 192.168.112/24. The ACL Manager has a single entry of "Source 192.168.113.0/24 Destination 192.168.0.0/16 and the "Standared ACL 192.168.8.8./16 permit.
What am I doing wrong? Thanks for getting back to me, I have carried out the steps as instructed, one interesting point is that the IP address that was issued to the VPN Client 192.168.113.200 does not appear in the output.

Any ideas what I need to add to get the vpn client to be able to ping the router and clients?
Thanks.I tried that and it didn't work. As for upgrading the ASA version, I'd like to but this is an old router and I don't have a support contract with Cisco anymore, so I can't access the latest firmware.
here is the runnign config again:

ASA 5505 VPN client LAN access problem
Hello,
I'm not expert in ASA and routing so I ask some support the following case.
There is a Cisco VPN client (running on Windows 7) and an ASA5505.
The goals are client could use remote gateway on ASA for Skype and able to access the devices in ASA inside interface.
The Skype works well but I cannot access devices in the interface inside via VPN connection.
Can you please check my following config and give me advice to correct NAT or VPN settings?

Cisco ASA 5505 IPsec client VPN - Cannot connect to local hosts
I have created a Cisco IPsec vpn on my ASA using the VPN creation wizard. I am able to successfully connect to the vpn and seemingly join the network, but after I connect I am unable to connect to or ping any of the hosts on the network.
Checking the ASA I can see that a VPN session is open and my client reports that it is connected. If I attempt to ping the client from the ASA all packets are dropped.
I suspect it may be an issue with my firewall, but I am not really sure where to begin.
Here is a copy of my config, any pointers or tips are aprpeciated:

CISCO ASA 5505 VPN problem in Windows 7
I am using CISCO ASA 5505. Client PC with Windows XP can use IE to make the VPN connection normally.
However, client PC with Windows 7 cannot use IE to make the VPN connection.
It just show the error of "Internet Explorer cannot display the webpage"
Would you please help?
Thank you very much!Hi Timothy,
Could you please try disabling UAC in Win 7. Also try to connect from a machine where you have admin privileges (in case you are trying connection from a restricted machine.
Also, add the site under trusted sites in IE. i.e if you are connecting to https://1.1.1.1 or https://vpn.abc.com then please add it under the trusted sites:
Let me know if this helps.
Thanks,

: endHello Wayne,
Can you use a different subnet range than the internal interface, this could cause you a LOT of issues and hours on troubleshooting, so use a dedicated different Ip address range...
I can see that the local Pool range is included into the inside interface Ip address subnet range, change that and the related config ( NAT,etc, ) and let us know what happens,
Regards,
Julio

Cisco ASA 5505 and DHCP Client Problems
Hi, i have a problem. I've connected my ASA appliance to an ADSL modem, and i dont get an DHCP address on the outside interface (e0/0). I use the asa-722-19.bin firmware.
I turned on the debugging for the DHCP client and could see that the ASA device was sending out broadcasts but a reply never came. Instead I connected the device to my internal network where the ASA got an address instantly.
I read somewhere that if I was to use ?ip address dhcp client-id fastethernet 0″, then I got an address from the ISP.
I tried looking for a similar command on the ASA5505 but I couldn?t find anything. I did however find a page on the Cisco site confirming my suspicions. It said some ISP?s require the client-id field of the DHCPDISCOVER request to be filled.
I've also read that this issue has beed fixed since a few weeks, now they have released version 7.2(2).22 where you can define ?dhcp-client client-id interface outside? in global configuration mode. Im running 7.2(2).19 and i cannot find any command like that in my appaiance. How do i fix my problem ? Or how do i get about recieving the 7.2(2).22 firmware update.
Regards !
LeifHi again! I thought I should share the solution that worked for me. I use software version 7.2(2) on this device. ASDM 5.2(2). In ASDM open configuration / Interfaces. Click in outside (my case 0/0) and press Edit. Then open the tab Advanced and set the correct Active Mac address. Fore some reason its empty by default and the ISP/modem don't like that. You will find the correct MAC address under the help menu / "About ASA". Im sure there is some another way to do this but this is a simple "how-to" that works with Swedens biggest ISP and their standard DSL modem.
When I used a Linksys DSL modem in bridge mode without the MAC address set I got an inside IP adress (192.168.x.x) from the modem to the ASA. After setting the MAC address I just had to do a renew and got the outside address right away. /Bjorn
(future users searchwords: no ip from isp, ASA 5505 and cable modem). -
ASA 5505 AnyConnect VPN Can RDP to clients but can't ping/icmp
Hello all,
I've been searching all day for a solution to this problem. I setup and SSL anyconnect VPN on my Cisco ASA 5505. It works well and connects with out a problem. However, I can't ping any internal clients, but I can RDP to them. It may be something simple and I would appreciate any help. Most of the time people end up posting their config so I will as well.

Thank in advance for any help!Your config actually looks good (you have the ACL that would allow the echo-reply back since you don't have inspection turned on) - are you sure this isn't a windows firewall issue on the PCs? I'd try pinging a router or switch just to make sure.

ASA 5505 as hw vpn client to PIX501 or ASA5505 w network extension mode
Hi!
We have been using a PIX 501 for a couple of years now to access a
local network with Cisco VPN software client. However we now need
access from another site with multiple users so I decided to buy two
ASA 5505 UL bundle to do the job. First i tried to just hook up the
new ASA at the remote site and connect to the PIX 501 with easy vpn.
In went fine. I configured the new ASA right from the box with the old
vpn profile settings and it worked right away. But as we also need the
remote site to be accessed from the main site (PIX side) i tried to
enable "network extension mode" but then the tunnel didnt work
anymore. it connects but no traffic is coming through. I set it back
to normal mode (only client) and it worked again.
Is there anything else I need to do to be able to use network
extension mode than just enabling it in ASDM ?
The samt thing happens when using two ASA 5505 the same way.
Software versions are:
PIX: 6.3
ASA 5505: 7.2.1 (used to be 7.2.2 but I had to downgrade because of a bug in 7.2.2 - vpnclient fails after reboot)
I also did try the latest 8.2 with very little success. Seemed a bit buggy.
Thanks,
BjornHi!
Thought I could add some info. Our Head unit is 192.168.1.1 and the connecting ASA 5505 is 192.168.10.1. When I try to ping a machine (192.168.1.201) from the remote site I get this in the ASA log:
With network extension mode
302020 192.168.1.201 192.168.10.2 Built ICMP connection for faddr 192.168.1.201/0 gaddr 192.168.10.2/512 laddr 192.168.10.2/512
With only client mode
302020 192.168.1.201 192.168.10.2 Built ICMP connection for faddr 192.168.1.201/0 gaddr 192.168.1.9/1 laddr 192.168.10.2/512
It seemes to me (quite the newbie here on ASA) that the unit does not handle the gateway address correctly when using network extension mode. The PC i use to ping from is 192.168.10.2.
Any ideas from the experts ?

Cisco ASA 5505, Cisco VPN Client and Novell Netware
Hi,
Our ISP have installed Cisco ASA 5505 firewall. We are trying to connect to our Novell 5.1 server using VPN client.
I installed VPN client on a laptop that is using wireless connection. I connect using wireless signal from near by hotel and I am able to connect to my firewall usinging vpn client and also able to login in using Novell client for XP.
When I use same vpn client and Novell client at home that is not using wireless connection, but DSL connection amd not able to login or find the tree.
The only difference in two machine is laptop using wireless connection and my home machine is using wired connection using DSL.If your remote end of the services in question support IPsec IKEv1 as the VPN type then, yes - the 5505 can be a client for that service. At that point it looks like a regular LAN-LAN VPN which is documented in many Cisco and 3rd party how-to documents.

Hello all thanks for looking,
I need to know how to setup my cisco asa 5505 as a vpn client to services like HMA or privateinternet and other paid VPN services. If someone else has already written a guide to this then that would be great. What I want to do is route all my secure traffice through the asa and have it go across the internet as encrypted VPN stuff and have my other stuff that does not need to be encrypted just go through to my other router.
Thanks in advance,If your remote end of the services in question support IPsec IKEv1 as the VPN type then, yes - the 5505 can be a client for that service. At that point it looks like a regular LAN-LAN VPN which is documented in many Cisco and 3rd party how-to documents.

ASA 5505 site-to-site VPN tunnel and client VPN sessions
Hello all
I have several years of general networking experience, but I have not yet had to set up an ASA from the ground up, so please bear with me.
I have a client who needs to establish a VPN tunnel from his satellite office (Site A) to his corporate office (Site Z). His satellite office will have a single PC sitting behind the ASA. In addition, he needs to be able to VPN from his home (Site H) to Site A to access his PC.
The first question I have is about the ASA 5505 and the various licensing options. I want to ensure that an ASA5505-BUN-K9 will be able to establish the site-to-site tunnel as well as allow him to use either the IPsec or SSL VPN client to connect from Site H to Site A. Would someone please confirm or deny that for me?
Secondly, I would like to verify that no special routing or configuration would need to take place in order to allow traffic not destined for Site Z (i.e., general web browsing or other traffic to any resource that is not part of the Site Z network) to go out his outside interface without specifically traversing the VPN tunnel (split tunneling?)
Finally, if the client were to establish a VPN session from Site H to Site A, would that allow for him to connect directly into resources at Site Z without any special firewall security rules? Since the VPN session would come in on the outside interface, and the tunnel back to Site Z goes out on the same interface, would this constitute a split horizon scenario that would call for a more complex config, or will the ASA handle that automatically without issue?
I don't yet have the equipment in-hand, so I can't provide any sample configs for you to look over, but I will certainly do so once I've got it.
Thanks in advance for any assistance provided!First question:
Yes, 5505 will be able to establish site-to-site tunnel, and he can use IPSec vpn client, and SSL VPN (it comes with 2 default SSL VPN license).
Second question:
Yes, you are right. No special routing is required. All you need to configure is site-to-site VPN between Site A and Site Z LAN, and the internet traffic will be routed via Site A internet. Assuming you have all the NAT statement configured for that.
Last question:
This needs to be configured, it wouldn't automatically allow access to Site Z when he VPNs in to Site A.
Here is what needs to be configured:
1) Split tunnel ACL for VPN Client should include both Site Z and Site A LAN subnets.
2) On site A configures: same-security-traffic permit intra-interface
3) Crypto ACL for the site-to-site tunnel between Site Z and Site A needs to include the VPN Client pool subnet as follows:
On Site Z:
access-list permit ip
On Site A:
access-list permit ip
4) NAT exemption on site Z needs to include vpn client pool subnet as well.
Hope that helps.
