Assign file types back to CS6 Applications

At this point I had to let go of my CC subscription. I've been waiting on a big contract to get finalized so I could justify renewing the whole suite of apps.
I left CC on my machine so I wouldn't have to re-download it all if I start it up again in a week or two.
The problem I am having is on my PC when I try to open a JPG in Adobe Bridge CS6 it opens in the expired Photoshop CC. Bridge CS6 will not allow you to re-assign the file type association with Photoshop CS6. It forces it into Photoshop CC. Same thing with Windows file type associations. I can try to point .JPG to the .exe for Photoshop CS6 all I want, but it automagically replaces it with CC.
How do it get back control of my machine to tell it to open things in CS6 for now until I can renew CC? I realize you might answer, "just uninstall CC" but should it be that difficult?
Thanks.

John,
Sorry if I didn't make it clear. I did go to WIndows tool to change file type associations. It let me specify Photoshop CS6, however, as soon as you make the choice it re-assigns it to Photoshop CC. It's like in a death spiral you can can't get away from.

  • File type icons in CS6 Design and Web Premium

    Hello everyone.
I am running Windows 7, 64 bit. I have recently upgraded from CS5.5 Design Premium to CS6 Design and Web Premium.
I the process, I lost the association of file types (such as .psd) with their relevant programs, which I have now recified.
However, the filetype icons that are associated with each program, in most cases, don't seem to have assigned themselves to their respecitive icons. For example, .psd files now show as a white document with the blue Ps square icon in the centre, and the same for InDesign etc. Oddly, Illustrator has worked and has assigned it's icons correctly.
    For example:
I can't find a method of editing specific file types icons - even then, I wouldn't know where to find the particular icon sets.
    Any ideas?
    Thanks in advance either way.

I used the CS Cleaner (http://www.adobe.com/support/contact/cscleanertool.html) and followed the steps its really easy.. but ur gonna have to re install you Creative Suite   all u do for the cleaner is open it up then select english (e) ->enter->Agree (Y)->enter->All (1) (which is the first option for a full clean i guess)->enter->Product Number its just basically asking you to input your choice number again (1)->enter and should tell u its all done then after u install CS again go to start-> default programs->associate file type->.psd for example->double click it and select Photoshop even though its probably already selected >.< but just do it again cuz it will refresh all the files on the coputer and whala you should c the correct file dysplay Heres pictures of my files before and after as proof

  • New computer ff install not listing all file types under tools-options-applications

New windows installation on another with the same version of ff (10.0.2). Clicking local .pls files in this machine gives option to launch VLC media player but on other computer just text appears.
The extension appears in the applications tab after clicking tools and options on this computer, but the list is far shorter on the other machine and does not include this extension. Is this rectified by installing a plugin? If so which one?

The issue isn't that VLC isn't playing the files- it is... but linking to the files saved on my system does not launch VLC from Firefox on the other computer like it does on this one. I've actually been able to add to the applications list. Technically I can run the same apps and associations on both machines except that Firefox isn't handling the ".pls" files at all with the other machine
I've saved a directory structure with .pls files to different streaming radio stations and the directory is linked to from Firefox on both computers... identical directories and files stored. When I bring up one of the folders in this machine and click on the file, I first get the same dialog as you attached- I launch VLC by selecting "Open with" then clicking OK. The radio station plays. I've set it to change stations when I click within the iframe without having to go to VLC and use the open media feature- it does the trick with a single click from Firefox,
The other machine when I click the file the iframe in which the directory was displayed shows text information (urls and other arcane digital nonsense) as though the file were a text file. Both machines have similar installations.... I do not want to overload on the other machine- it's my communications backup but I would like this arrangement to work as it does on this computer.
Again, the biggest hint I see is the absence of the ".pls" file type in the list under the "applications" tab after clicking "Tools"-"Options" in Firefox on the machine in question.
Can something be done either by transplanting missing files from one machine to the next or from about:config to induce the desirable result from the other machine in Firefox?

  • Deploying different file types in Java Web Applications

    Hi,
I have recently return to web development in java after a long break and im having some trouble that i dont remember having before.
I have a web application bundles in a WAR file which is fully working in a fresh instillation of tomcat 5.5, servlets and jsp are all fine, but the jsp files are using a css which is also bundled in the WAR file.
The problem is that when i try to access to css from the html in the jsp files or directly by typing the url it is saying file not found, i have also tried this with a number of other file types, even .txt files .htm, .html files and the only files that i can access from the WAR once deployed are the jsps. I have tried adding the MIME types into the web.xml file for these files with no joy. Any idea how i can get these files to be accessible through the web server?

i have just worked out what it is, i had a servlet where the url-mapping set to the root of the web app i.e. '/'. when i changed it to something different it started to work.
    thanks for the suggestion anyway

  • Some file types not listed in Applications settings

    OS: Windows XP SP3
    Firefox 4.0 & Pale Moon 4.0.5
I have a problem when I download files of the executables type (.exe). Previously, I have checked the sign so that Firefox automatically download the file via download manager. Unfortunately, some sites disallow downloading with it. But, when I want to change the setting, I can't find the executables type in the Applications settings. So, how I download normally again? Please help!

I think the setting you need must be in the add-on's settings.
Firefox's Tools > Options > Applications is for downloads that need an application to open them. Executables are designed to run directly on the OS rather than being opened by another application. Also, executable files usually are sent from the server with a generic binary file header, so Firefox will not be able to match them up with a particular file type.

  • PSE-6.......assigning file types (jpeg, TIFF, psd)

I mistakenly contacted Canon regarding the following question, and they said it was a matter of my photo editing software.
I'm reading articles about editing photos for jewelry photography.  The articles I'm reading say to start off as a TIFF or PSD file before doing any editing.  From what I'm (hopefully) understanding form the articles, they say to not edit a jpeg file and not to "jpeg a jpeg file" because each time you edit (do I understand correctly?) a jpeg file image information is lost.
That's what I'm understanding from what I'm reading.
My Situation :::  When I upload my photos from my camera (Canon Power Shot A1100 IS), my PSE-6 program uploads the photos as a jpeg file.  It does not give me any choices as to what type of file to upload it as.
My Confusion ::: So, if my photos start out as jpeg files, am I losing image information when I subsequently edit the photo and save it?  How can I start off with a TIFF or PSD file to edit?  Does it matter? And why?
Any help with any of my questions are very much appreciated......

It doesn't matter where you start out. Just do File>Save As and choose TIff or PSD as the format for your working version.

  • Using X11 application as default for file type?

    Hello,
I wanted to know if it's possible to set an X11 application as default application to open a certain file type.
I tried the "open with" option on a file type, but the X11 application I wanted to associate to was unavailable (impossible to select) in the file explorer window.
    Thanks.
    -- Paolo

Unix executables are not usually "visible." "Standard" OS X applications use the ".app" extension, but Unix executables do not. I suspect that's why you are having the problem. Making the association through OS X may not be possible.

  • Change of file type

I have a fair amount of picture files either stored as TIFF or JPEG in various subfolders. Since I upgraded to Tiger 10.4.3 (I believe but am not sure, anyway since recently) some of the files appear randomly in Finder as a "Unix executable file". Note that these false false types appear among other picture file with the correct file type!
I have, for other reasons, repaired permissions but do not see a reason why this would change a file type.
Since these files are older scanned family pictures from the last and previous century I am most interested to know how this could have happened and whether there is a way to revert the file type back so I can use them for inclusion in a family document and processing (in Adobe PS Elements for example)??
Thank you for any helpful suggestion.

Filetypes are assigned via metadata or extender. In the PC and *nix world the extender (.JPG, .DOC, .GIF) indicate what kind of data the file holds and, by extension, what icon the Finder should display for it. Traditionally, the Mac world has depended on metadata, information contained within the file, that not only indicates what kind of file it is, but what program created it. OS X has somewhat muddied the picture for we Mac users. For a time it appeared Apple intended to do away with metadata and depend on extenders. However it now appears that metadata is on the ascendancy again.
I'm not sure what happened to your files but I'm fairly certain of two things: those files didn't have any extender (or an invalid one) and also either had no metadata or it was damaged.

  • Why won't Windows 7 permit my CC programs to be the default programs for file types?

I just uninstalled all of my CS6programs to free up disk space. But now....Windows 7 will not associate JPG, JPEG, GIF, TIFF, INDD, etc. (the typical file types) with my CC programs, -- all of the file types which had previously been associated with my CS6 programs!! Don't misunderstand: I can open the actual file(s) just fine from within the programs themselves, but if I am browsing through my folders, and select a file and try to open from Windows Explorer, it has now been associated with Windows Photo Viewer. And when I try to manually associate the file types with my CC programs, not only are the programs not amongst the choices, Photoshop and InDesign won't remain as my chosen program when I browse through to fine the EXE file!! This is NOT good. This is going to seriously eat into the efficiency of my work flow.

Windows only stores a file type connection for one application. It sounds like your installation of the CC apps didn't update the file type to themselves so when you uninstalled your CS6 apps, Windows just disconnected the association of the file types completely.
What you'll need to do is either reinstall the CC apps to make the connection again or you can manually reassign the file types to the associated program. Watching the video here, http://windows.microsoft.com/en-us/windows7/change-which-programs-windows-uses-by-default, will show you how to change the file associations.

  • File type association, e.g. Quicktime - VLC; make it stick

    Hi,
I want to use VLC instead of QuickTime Player. Therefore .mov files are set up to be played using VLC.
After booting into Windows and rebooting Mac OS X, this set up is defaulted, meaning QU Player will be used. Is there any way to make my personal set up for file type associations and default application stick?
    Thanks alot
    n00b

If you click on file you want to watch with VLC, command-i gives you info, down the window it'll say "open with" choose your application and then "change all" this should then make all files that are the same open with VLC. If that doesn't stick repair your permissions.

  • Work saved as an un-accessible 'File' file type. Can my work be revived?

    Hi Photoshop Community,
Once I had completed working on a project in PSE9, I 'saved as' my work.
I then closed the program and went to re-open the file however, the file appears with the extension 'File' and is un-accessible in all of the photo viewing software I have available. The file is however, still a large file - 85MB - which would suggest all of the file information is still in-tact.
I have tried a few things I thought may help it. I tried opening the file in several different programs, I've tried re-nameing the file, opeing the file properties to change the file type, backing up the file then restarting the computer and program. So far nothing has helped.
I would very much like to revive the file if possible, any help would be greatly appreciated.
    Kind Regards
    Callum

  • To add new file type in SharePoint

    Hi,
I am trying to add new file type for sharepoint site like MSWord, PDF etc.,
Are there any ways to create new file types in SharePoint? My requirement is to create a file type for AutoCAD drawings (.dwg format).
Please note, we are using SharePoint 2007 version!
    Thanks

Browse to the Central Admin site
    Select the Operations tab
Under the Security Configuration section, click the link for
    Blocked file types
Select the Web Application that you would like to modify from the drop down list
Each blocked file extension displayed in the list is blocked by SharePoint.  To enable the blocked file extension, simply remove it from the list.
Check with your type and if its there unblock it.

  • Associate a File Type with a JAR

How do I get XP to associate a file type with a JAR application? Since the extension on the application is JAR, I get a message from XP that I can't associate with it since it is not exe.

Look at the association for the JAR extension, you'll find that it uses javaw.exe and the "open" action is mapped to some command line involving javaw.exe and %1 which represents the jar file to be executed. Now, for your extension make a very similar setup, only your "open" command line will look something like this:
    "C:\...\javaw.exe" -jar YourSpecialJar.jar "%1" %*
That command line runs your jar file and passes the file being "opened" to the command line as the first parameter. (I don't know what the %* does but it's in the command line for the jar extension.)

  • .jpg/.tiff/.png unsupported file types in iDVD 7.1.1 ?

Updated to iDVD 7.1.1 and am now unable to correctly open an old .dvdproj created in iDVD '06.
Worse still, iDVD tells me that there are themes missing (They are all there, including my own 'favorite' themes, in the user/library/application support/iDVD and ./library/application support/iDVD.)
So, I try to recreate my 'favorite' theme from an existing bundled theme 'Sliding Panes' (as I did in the iDVD '06) and I get:
    "Unsupported File Type: Unknown format
    /Library/Application Support/iDVD/Themes/iDVD 5/0002SlidingPanes.theme/Contents/Resources/dropzonedefcontent.tif
In fact it's the same problem for any theme i try to use, including if I try to drop a .jpg image as a background...Always the same "Unsupported File Type" message...
So, I've reinstalled the iDVD updater to 7.1.1; dumped the com.apple.iDVD.plist; repaired permissions and still the same...
    Where's the problem ?

I suggest you use this app / utility from apple's web site prior to reinstalling iDvd:
