At open, illustrator puts clipping path on images and slices it up HELP!

I am still using CS2, but this same problem has happened when I open a legacy (older version) file in CS4.....   When I open a file, it all of a sudden has a clipping path around the image.  Also, it is slicing up some images randomly.  It is very strang and I can't explain it.  I just saved and closed the file yesterday and today I go to open it on the same computer and all the photos have these clipping masks around them and some are sliced into multiple pieces.  Can anyone help with this???

It's easily explained: It is opening the data as if it were an EPS or PDF, so the fault is probably with the options you chose when you saved the files in
CS2. Check them. also of course keep in mind that some specific features have notably changed, so it may do thius simply to retain appearance, which you can influence by setting teh respective prefs....

    Hello, we are interested in more information on the Image Size > Fit To option in phototshop.  For example, if we open a 46x25 inch 120 dpi image and choose Fit to 4x6" does all of the resolution remain?  Any links to tutorials in this area are appreciated.

    Let's look at the first thing: Aspect Ratio  46W x 25H does not fit 6W x 4H exactly. You get 6W x 3.621H If we preserve Landscape Orientation and Aspect Ratio. If I set H to 4, W will be 7.36 inches, clipping your picture.
    You'll have to decide on how to clip off that 1.36 inches so your picture can be 4 x 6 in order to solve that problem.
    Notice I set Resample off. Throwing out pixels is destructive editing. So what I am doing is "Scaling", changing the Print Size without touch the pixels. Notice how high the resolution goes up.
    To Resample or not will be your decision.  I hope I answered your questions properly. Let me know otherwise.

    Hi Gasbarro,
    When trying to reinstall using the Cleaner Tool Jacob suggested, can you take a note of the location?

    The update didn't apply correctly.
    Did you follow the steps exactly in order to restore? disconnect all cables, open iTunes, then connect micro usb
    Apple TV (2nd and 3rd generation): Restoring your Apple TV
    Make sure to connect directly to computer, not a keyboard port or USB hub. Try a different cable.

  • Clipping path versus image mask?

    I've been doing a lot of clipping paths lately and I'm considering purchasing PerfectMask 5 from onOne Software to make that process a little easier. It looks like PerfectMask creates image masks. What are the advantages and disadvantges of each?

    If you've mastered the Pen tool, then stick with it. You will find it faster and more accurate  ( in most cases ) than any "automated" masking tool / plugin. If you haven't mastered the pen tool, and you serious about being an expert in photoshop, then it's time to bit the bullet and master the pen tool.
    With that said, I've used photoshops extract tool, Vertis Fluid Mask 3, OnOnes Mask Pro, and I still prefer the Pen tool for speed, accurate, and flexibility.  I just moved to CS5 from CS3, I've heard the refine mask tool is excellent, tho I haven't had a chance to use it much yet. The other automated mask tools work good on things like smoke, hair, transparent, and objects where the pen tool can't be used because of the hard edge. Again, I've been told the new refine mask tool in photoshop CS5 really does a great job with these areas.
    I found the automated programs had a learning curve. Not all that easy to learn. You don't just launch them, push a "mask my photo" button, and shazamm!! They do take time to learn, study tutorials, etc. OnOne Mask Pro I found easier for me to learn than Vertis Fluid Mask. Now if your going to use them, day-in, day-out, then I'd imagine you'd get very good at it. (just like the pen tool).
    So don't be too quick to lay down your $$, both have free trials, so go there first and try them on you typical images to see what you think.
    Maskerade and Primematte are two others.
    Just my humble opinion
    good luck.

  • How to create clipping paths shape like a slice of a circle?

    I want to make a DVD label by dividing the circle into 8 equal slices (like cutting a pie 4 times). In each slice I will put an actor's photo in it.
    I think I need to create 8 layers to house the 8 slices of photo, each layer gets a clipping path that is in the shape of a 45 degree slice of the circle. Once I have this setup I can paste photos into the layers and adjust the photos until it looks good in the confine of each slice.
    The question is how to create these clipping paths in the shape of a slice of the pie? I have already drawn a 120mm circle (using the elipse path tool) denoting the outside boundary of the dvd label. But I don't know how to cut it into 8 precise slices of 45 degree each. Help?

    Here's another way:
    Make a circle and a square that covers one quadrant of the circle. Select the square with the Path Selection Tool. Edit > Free Transform, using the reference point that corresponds to the center of the circle, and 90 minus the angle of the slice into the Horizontal Skew field. Hint: you can copy the results from the Windows Calculator and paste them directly into Photoshop for this. This will give you greater precision that you might care to enter by hand.
    Once you have committed the transform, select 'Intersect shape areas' in the option bar for the Path Selection Tool, and click Combine. There's your slice.

  • Disk Images and External Drives - PLEASE HELP

    Hi all,
    I've got to a point where i can't afford to keep buying expensive drives to work form with Final Cut Pro X so decided to just work from several high spec drives and then back them up on other cheaper drives, reformat the high spec ones and start again.
    Not really understanding how disk imaging works I hoped I could carbon copy mountable and read and writeable drives (in this case a thunderbolt lace SSD)  on to a cheaper mass storage, wipe it and start again. I hoped it would then appear on the drives top level just as the drive appears on my desktop, and that I could access it if needed or port it back to a single drive at a later date? Is this possible? Can anyone help? So far everything I've tried has failed.
    One thought I did have was to create several partitions on the cheaper mass drive and duplicate it on to there? But I can't find any help or instruction for this online and need to make sure its write before I go deleting old projects.
    Attached are a picture of what I have (the disk image file) and what I was hoping to create (a mountable replica of a working drive on an external HD)
    Any help greatly appreciated.
    Robin

    You can research the terms disk image and back up for several hours. That might not help.
    None of the back up routines I am aware for for video and large media files use any compression or bundling systems like .dmg. I think your best bet is to make one-to-one copies of your files to your cheap drives. If you need the older projects, you copy them back to your working drives. That's pretty much how it's always been unless you are have a nice NAS RAID with mirroring to another rack of drives.
    The problem with cheap mass storage is no that it's unreliable. It's just not QUITE as reliable as more expensive systems. Having a copy of your work on a disk that might or is likely to fail is almost the same as not having a backup at all. but there is a point of diminishing returns for all of us in this business. This trend toward 4k and 8k, and FCPX's inability to manage media efficiently, means we all must add TB of storage for every project. A friend of mine includes a couple of TB drives in his fees. The client pays for and gets the drives.

  • Help! Getting clipping paths back on exported lightroom images!

    A bit of a problem.
    I have 22,000 images, half of which were colour corrected in lightroom, but all 22,000 were exported from lightroom.
    So, out of the 22,000 exported files I don't know which ones were colour corrected or not, which is not important until I realise that non of my clipping paths stayed with the exported files.
    There were clipping paths on about 6,000 of these images.
    So first, is there any way of finding from the exported files which ones were worked on in lightroom?
    Secondly, is there a clever scripty way of bringing a clipping path from one photoshop file to another photoshop file (pixel perfect).... preferbly maybe having a folder full of doner files that have the clipping paths that a script gets their clipping paths and puts them onto the photoshop files in the second folder (the two folders will have files with same file names?)

    Unless you specifically set Lr to overwrite the original export creates anew file, which doesn't include layers, clipping paths, Smart Objects and a bunch of other Ps stuff. Hopefully, your original with clipping paths is still around because that's the only way you're getting them back.
    BTW: as you've discovered, editing an image in Lr after t's been edited in Ps is leaving yourself open to a world of hurt, especially when the image includes editing features that Lr doesn't support.

  • Photoshop Clipping Paths to Illustrator

    When I make a clipping path in photoshop and save it as a .psd and then place it in Illustrator the bounding box of the path is the whole image and not just the bounding box of the path. How can I make it just the bounding box of the path? Export it a different way or what? Another computer does what I want to happen, but this one will not.

    Only way is to crop your image in Phoshhsop
    CMD click on path name
    Image >> Crop
    Save
    Unfortunately the bounding box is defined in Photoshop and Illustrator >> link palette >> placement options will NOT help you. So don't waste your time there with this old, of little use placement options.

  • Interior clipping paths in photoshop image dont show up in Quark

    Iv'e added a clipping path to image that has interior paths (inside the main clipping path)
    I save as clipping path and save image as an eps.
    When I import the image into Quark XPress and place over colored background the interior paths are not clipping out (punching out) to see the background color.
    The clipping path shows up in the Quark document but doesn't punch out when I export as a pdf.
    This is also happening when I import the image into InDesign and make a pdf.
    Any thoughts?

    In your tools panel are these icons … . Select your paths with the Path Selection Tool (black arrow) and make sure you have used the correct "path area" option for each individual path.

  • [CS2] [JS]  Apply photoshop clipping path

    Hi,
    Does anyone know how to apply the photoshop clipping path to all images in a document, If the image contains one ?
    I can't find a clipping path property of the graphic object in the reference manual...
    The loop structure itself is not a problem...
    for (var j = app.activeDocument.allGraphics.length - 1; j >= 0; j--) {
    Thanx
    Tim

    Hi Peter,
    I've just tried using...
    for (var j = app.activeDocument.allGraphics.length - 1; j >= 0; j--) {
    try
    var theEPSItem = app.activeDocument.allGraphics[j];
    var theClippingPath = theEPSItem.clippingPath;
    if ( ( theClippingPath.clippingType != ClippingPathType.photoshopPath ) &&
    ( theClippingPath.photoshopPathNames.length > 0 ) )
    theClippingPath.clippingType = ClippingPathType.photoshopPath;
    catch ( e )
    ... something strang happens when running the script. The clipping path settings of the EPS-files are changed and are correct. However, the result is not yet visible. So I still have to open the clipping path settings menu and click on the ok button... Then the result is displayed.
    Any idea's ?
    Tim
