At times when we try to open Firefox we get a message it is already running and have to restart comp . Why is this ?It happens with all users . Thank you

We have gone on our comp after a while and tried to open Firefox . When we do we get a message "Firefox is running close app or restart comp . " Now the thing is I was on it earlier and closed it with the close button . Then say checked mail , or looked at pictures on my comp . Then I would want to use the browser again and when I tried to access it I get that message . Rest assured it had been closed . This issue did not happen until I downloaded Firefox4 . We did not have this problem with the earlier versions of Firefox .

• When I try to sign in, I get a message saying its already running, and I have to restart my computer each time.

I'm not sure how much more info I can give...When I go to sign on after having been on and shutting down, I get a message indicating an application of Firefox is already running and need to shut it down or restart my computer. Sounds like Firefox is "hanging at exit". That problem is frequently caused by an Extension or a Plugin. Read all of the following articles.<br /><br />

• When I try to open firefox, it says that a session is already running and I need to close it before I can run another session, I cannot find the session that's running, what can I do?

This happens after I have used firefox and exited the program. When I try to reuse the program I get this message. Is there a setting within firefox causing this or ??? I have tried to locate the session running without any luck. Would appreciate any help. I have uninstalled the program and then reinstalled it, but nothing has changed it continues to malfunction.

• When I try to open Firefox, I get a message that one is already open, though I'm not able to access it. How can I eliminate the invisible version?

I've been having problems with pdf and Firefox on my iMac. In the absence of being able to find an 'uninstall' function (and reinstall with a newer version), I deleted Firefox by dragging the application item to the trash and deleting. Then I downloaded a new Firefox version 5. But, when I try to open it, the above message comes up. This happens even if I shut down and restart. what do I need to do?

I have tried everything I could to fix this, but some things require actually being on Firefox, and since I cannot get on, I cannot click on the tabs to do it. I have even totally uninstalled firefox, and that has not fixed this. I still get the same message that firefox is running and I need to close it or restart (which I have also tried dozens of times). I have removed things like Java, and that has not helped either. If I cannot even get on line in firefox, how can I fix this. I am not crazy about using internet explorer, but right now, it is my only option. I even tried to start in safe mode, and the same message box pops up!

• When I try to open Firefox, I get a message saying that firefox is already currently running, although it is not running. Close and try again or restart computer. How can I fix this?

I always close Firefox when I am finished with the web. When I try to open it later, I often get a message saying that firefox is currently running, so close it first. As far as I can tell, firefox is not running. The message then says to restart your computer and try again. I restart my computer and then firefox opens.

• When I try to open firefox, I get a message that says, "firefox is already running" and to close it or restart my computer when it is NOT running, so I can't get on the internet through firefox. What is wrong?

The information box pops up when I click on my desktop icon for firefox as well as if I try to access it in other ways. I have restarted my computer. I have tried removing firefox and redownloading it. No matter what I do, it still gives me a box saying it is already running, but not responding. When I pull up my taks bar, it is not running! I can't close it as the box suggests because it is not open to do it. I just keep getting a box saying it is already running no matter what I try to do, even though it is not running.

• When I try to open Firefox I get a message: "Update could not be installed. Make sure there is not another instance of Firefox. Restart and try again."

Started w/FF 29 something.on Win XP (Home) SP3
Verified w/Task manager and PS that there is no other instance of FF.
Occurs only in my profile, administrator and other users do not get this message.
First Resetting, did not work.
Safe mode also did not work.
Uninstalled completely, even deleted the Firefox folder from my profile and rebooted.
Downloaded new versions, installed and same issue.
Firefox now version 33, all seems up to date but I still get that message. When I open Help > About it says I am at version 33 and to restart to upgrade...
Any ideas greatly appreciated.
Have reverted to SeaMonkey for now.

Hello sprytely, go for a clean re-install, this means you remove Firefox program files and then reinstall Firefox. Please follow these steps:
Note: You might want to print these steps or view them in another browser.
#Download the latest Desktop version of Firefox from the next full installer https://www.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/all/ and save the setup file to your computer.
#After the download finishes, close all Firefox windows (click Exit from the Firefox or File menu).
#Delete the Firefox installation folder, which is located in one of these locations, by default:
#*Windows:
#**C:\Program Files\Mozilla Firefox
#**C:\Program Files (x86)\Mozilla Firefox
#Now, go ahead and reinstall Firefox:
##Double-click the downloaded installation file and go through the steps of the installation wizard.
##Once the wizard is finished, choose to directly open Firefox after clicking the Finish button.
More information about reinstalling Firefox can be found here.

• I often get an error message when I try to open Firefox 8.0.1 that it's already running...it isn't...and the only way I can open it is to restart my computer. Is there a way to fix that problem or to download an older version that doesn't do that?

I tried downloaded the browser again from IE, but that hasn't helped the problem.

Firefox is already running but is not responding has steps that you can try. It sounds like you may have something that is hanging your browser on exit (probably an extension or a locked profile) and the steps on that page should help clear it up.

• When i try to open firefox i get a message that says Windows has encountered a problem and will notify when there is a solution. Then you can click on the explanation and it says DEP will not allow it to open. Can you tell me how to fix this?

I was able to install and have an icon on my desktop. When i click on it it automatically pops a box up that says: Firefox has stopped working. A problem caused the program to stop working correctly. Windows will close the program and notify you if a solution is available. Then it highlights an icon at the bottom to show what the problem is and it is DEP (data execution prevention. I tried a few suggestions there but it didn't work. So it said to see if there is a download version compatable with DEP

• When i try to open firefox, I get a message saying another copy is already running. I have tried shutting down comletely and computer still thinks there's another copy running. How can this be?

There are two separate desktops on this computer, one for me and one for another user. Her Firefox is not affected. I have looked everywhere for this second copy supposedly running but I don't see how it can be because I have shut down all programs several times.

There are a few possible causes for that error, for details see Firefox is already running but is not responding.
