I want to prolong the life of my laptop battery. I just got a new macbook pro and want to know the proper way to charge the battery.

The first days: leave it on the charger, until it says 100% for a few days.
Then from time to time use it without the charger connected. Let it loose charge until about 50-60% full, then reconnect the charger. You have to keep the "electrons flowing". In the past they said to "calibrate" the battery, but that just calibrates the electronics, not the battery, and you don't do that anymore.

I dropped my Macbook Pro and now the battery is swollen, should I bring it to the genius bar?

My Macbook Pro fell off my bed (approx. 3ft) and dented the left side of the front left corner on the battery meter. Besides the damage everything seemed okay for a little while until I kept getting a erratic curser track pad. I kept cleaning it thinking some dirty or oil may of got on it or in the edges, but long story short I found out my battery is swollen and thats the reason for the erratic curser. The drop and dent impacted the battery causing it to swell. I feel that I just need a new battery. I purchased my macbook from the apple store and still have applecare. However I've researched online a bit and saw some people posted that if you drop your macbook, Apple will void my coverage. I also read that when people have had a swollen battery and applecare, they just brought it into the Genius bar and they went to the back and brought them a new battery. I've been super nervous to go see them as I've spent the extra bucks on Applecare and did not get any use of it. If anyone has had this issue or knows about it, please let me know!!

What display should I get for my macbook pro?

Hey Guys. I think this is in the correct section.
So I have a Macbook Pro (specs at the bottom) and I am looking to add an external monitor to use as a second monitor and at other times a screen for my playstation. I have never had a monitor before so not sure how big? What resolution? What ppi? HD, UHD, 4K? Someone said something about refresh rate. I have no idea what that is. None of this stuff I know.
Obviously I want the best screen I can have and I would connect my Macbook to it by HDMI using a Thunderbolt to HDMI converter and connect my ps3 to it by HDMI.
What is the highest resolution a HDMI/Thunderbolt can handle?
What screen should I get?
Also I connected it up to my TV once and if I put my mouse at the bottom of the screen and then moved it onto my macbook screen it disapeared and didn't appear again until I moved it up and I don't want this problem

They also didn't put Pages, Keynote or Numbers back on it until I argued with them. Of course, I didn't have my data backed up. My hard drive was destroyed when I tried to install the update of Mavericks myself. I should not have to buy iWeb and iPhoto when I already had them. Suggestions?

have you tried looking in the App Store, to see if you can redownload iWeb and iPhoto there gratis?
If you haven’t done so already, you should purchase an external hard drive to act as a Time Machine backup destination, so that you’ll have an option to rollback to a working environment if a new OS installation is troublesome.

What can one do with Bluetooth between MacBook Pro and iPhone?

I tried enabling Bluetooth on my MacBook Pro and iPhone, thinking I could file transfer some photographs. It seems not to work; after trying to "browse the device" it effectively 'times out' (as if it's a neverending 'loading' wait icon). I saw some other threads here, "I can't sync/connect my iPhone and iMac!" with various replies, like "you sync [Calendar agenda] via MobileMe, not via Bluetooth."
What does one do with Bluetooth? Can't I send files wirelessly from my phone to my laptop? If not, why not? If so, why is the connection wait interminable? I have enabled File Sharing and Bluetooth Sharing on my laptop, but see no direct means to do so in my phone's settings -- must this be done through iTunes? Do I need to configure something further before I can send files?
I have iPhone 3G Version 4.2.10 (last I checked -- still waiting to install an update) and Macbook Pro Mac OS X (10.6.8).

This is not a feature of iphone. Never has been.
Other than tethering for internet, where provided by the carrier, you cannot connect to a computer/device/phone and do anything.
Bluetooth is for handsfree telephone devices/headsets, stereo speakers/headsets, some keyboards, some peer to peer apps from the app store and tethering where provided by the carrier.

Seems you might have a hardware problem. Like the Logic board has failed. your best option is to take the system to an Apple store to have it properly diagnosed as to the problem.

other monitors have a response time of 5ms
i assumed this would mean fast action graphics would display better?
any thoughts?

Should I use a Thunderbolt to Thunderbolt cable? The article did not include this.

I have to assume you are connecting your iMac to your MBP and running the MBP in target display mode. So you would need a mini-displayport to mini-displayport cable for that.
If it's the other way around I don't think it can be done since a TB device can only be connected to a TB source.

There's mixed responses upon Googling the question, some say let it drain completely with others say to charge it when the battery reaches between 25%-5%. Currently my battery charge is at 33% and I haven't used it much either, say maximum an hour's usage in the past 6hours or so from the time I received it and it has not been on standby except for an hour, the remaining time, it was switched off completely. Interesting, looking at this page from Apple http://www.apple.com/batteries/ and then following the links at the bottom for each device (notebook, iPod, iPad, iPhone) Apple seems to be recommending one deep cycle a month, that is a discharge to 0 and then a full charge.

Sounds like a hardware problem. You'll need to contact Apple ASAP. Since it's so new, hopefully they will just replace it rather than making you go through the repair process, but that's up to them.
