ATI Raedon 4670 Support

Does anyone know if the ATI Raedon 4670 is supported on the Mac Pro. Are there any drivers available, supported or not÷

No. Only the ATI 3870 Mac/PC Edition is supported along with the three cards provided from Apple. No other video cards have the required EFI boot ROM needed for OS X.
Other third-party cards may be installed additionally but can only be used for Windows.

  • HT202856 Macpro 2009 with an ATI 5770HD cannot support a 4k monitor?

Just bougth a 4k display samsung UD590 but of course (as all non apple products..) it doesn't work.
Can i ask why my Macpro 2009 with an ATI 5770HD cannot support a 4k monitor when also on AmigaOS4(!!!!!) with an ancient 4750 it works???
    Can someone explain me why??

well , according to AMD's website, the ATI 5770 HD's max resolution over DisplayPort is 2560 x 1600. It could be the cable. "It doesn't work"  covers a lot of ground, sir.  have you recently updated your Macpro 2009? How is the monitor connected--DisplayPort or DVI. Apparently one of the video outputs will run a 24' monitor, one will run up to a 30" monitor (the DVI), and one should run up to the max resolution. Hopefully this helps your problem

  • 7640 Media Center No audio after installing ATI HD 4670

I tried a video card upgrade, I was running  ATI 1950, purchased an  ATI HD4670 so I could make use of HDMI input on my new monitor and improve performance.
I uninstalled the existing drivers and followed the install info for the 4670. The card appeared to configure correctly and video function was great BUT i had no sound from either front or back outputs. In audio hardware set up I could no longer see Realtek HD only the ATI HD Audio as a choice. I did install teh full Catlyst Control Center version 9.1.1.
    Any help greatly appreciated :-)

Install the latest ATI drivers, the Microsoft drivers should load by themselves. Install Realtek ATI HDMI drivers (Google "ATI HDMI Audio Device" ).
Install "ac3filter" (get it from a google search). Restart your PC after that. In ac3filter Main Tab check "Use SPDIF" and choose 5.1 audio out. In the SPDIF Tab choose the formats your Surround Sound can decode (DTS, AC3, PCM 24bit) .
Turn on your receiver. In the Audio control panel choose Realtek HDMI Output as Default, choose Properties, click Supported Formats Tab and verify which formats will play (disable "Microsoft WMA Pro Audio" ) and do the same in Advanced (choose 24bit). Now 5.1 surround should work.

  • Full HD with ATI HD 4670

I have a HD 4670. My requirement is to have 1920×1080 hd resolution (16:9) up and running. I don't care about compiz or whatever.
I have tried both open source drivers (ati and radeonhd). According to xrandr none of them seems to be able to display full hd. Is it right ?
I have ended up installing catalyst and catalyst-utils. I think these packages end up downloading twice the ATI driver from the ATI web site. Does it make sense ?
A part from this, it works nicely. except that the screen sometimes flicks on the above right side of the screen. This is specially obvious when I have a blank screen (whatever the color is). And it is a real pain.
FY: I am using the latest catalyst version : 9.8.1 with the arch kernel 2.6.30.  Direct rendering works fine according to "glxinfo | grep direct". Following the wiki, I have generated a xorg with aticonfig and did not bother modifying it. I am using xmonad.
Despite the excellent ATI wiki entry, I have found it rather difficult to understand how to get a proper ATI driver working to support full hd. For instance,  I am not sure if both ati and radeonhd are supposed to handle it or not.
I have been reading many of the catalyst comments but it is not always easy to make sense of them. Is there a dedicated help page for catalyst and catalyst-utils. I realise that the install procedure is kind of changing at each version and it is probably a real pain to offer a decent support here.
Is there any obvious check I could try ? Is the future brighter with kernel 2.6.31 ?
So this is just a cry for help. In any case, it should be viewed as a critics toward Arch, the Aur package or whatever. On the contrary thanks so much for your work.
PS I have duplicated this post realizing it was probably harder to search for info in the huge ATI Bar & grill post. Sorry for the inconvenience.

    Hey PierreR,
I agree with you the ATI wiki is difficult to understand, more over there is a interesting but equally incomprehensible mega post ATI Bar & Grill.  I have Dell XPS 1640 with Radeon Mobility 4670.
I (like Andrwe) recommend the xf86-video-radeonhd-git.  But and interesting in getting 3d acc to work for Kwin or Compiz woteva any help with that would be great.
But I here is copy of my xorg.conf with 1080p working modify and enjoy I hope

  • Need ATI Rage 128 support on Solaris 8-1-01 (Intel)

    Hi,
I am trying to install Solaris 8 (the new 8-1-01 release) onto an intel-based PC with an AGP-based ATI Rage 128 video driver, and there appears to be no option listed in the video driver list on the install CD, and the dirver on the hardware isn't recognized. I've tried a couple of the ATI drivers, but they seem to be PCI-based only, so of course, don't find the board, and I don't get beyond the hardware config phase. I notice there's a patch (#109401-05) specifically for ATI Rage 128 drivers, but how to apply if I can't install in the first place? Any help would be appreciated.
    Thanks!
    David

Have you tried installing and selecting the "Generic 640X480" support? The continue on through the rest of the install.
Once you get that all complete, add the new driver, then run kdmconfig to reconfig the video stuff.

  • U330 Updated ATI Drivers that support soft switch of GPU?

Is there a way to update the ATI video drivers and Catalyst Control Center that also support the GPU soft switch? I find it annoying that the last update is from August 2008, and no ATI drivers will work otherwise.

    Hi,
I think that APS is not working properly. It is too acurate. When I just move my laptop in APS application I can see that my laptop is shaking for a 30 seconds and then my hard drive is stopped. I knew that everything couldn't be great. How can they  (Lenovo) publish drivers without testing them?? Now there are two drivers, first the MOST important - switchable graphics - and now APS. I am just wondering why always Ideapads have to have problems with drivers?? We were waitng for a year without any support and now they give us faulty drivers. CONGARTUATIONS Lenovo!!!

  • Dell 2405FPW stuck in Power Save with MacMini (PPC w/ATI Raedon 9200)

I'm wondering if anyone is having any problems with their Dell 2xxxFPW monitors (specifically the 2405FPW) getting stuck in Power Save mode. This is a known problem with some Dell monitors. More details can be found here:
    http://forums.us.dell.com/supportforums/board/message?board.id=dim_monitor&messa ge.id=33721
This problem only presented itself when I began to use my MacMini on my 2405FPW. The FAQ clearly states certain problem 'cards', with a generic 'ATI' reference. They recommend upgrading to the latest drivers as this has to be done in order to avoid the monitor getting stuck in this mode again. Needless to say, I ran the fix and it did resolve the issue, but two weeks later I'm experiencing the same problem. I never had this problem when I used my monitor with my Windows desktop.
My question is, is someone at Apple aware of this and is there any type of driver update/fix out there? I'm assuming anything would've already been pushed down via Software Update, and I grabbed ATI's latest Display drivers and apps on their website to no avail. (There's a ROM update, but they specifically mention this does not apply to OEM's).
I might just have to move my Mini to a VGA connection, which I really don't want to do...
MacMini PPC   Mac OS X (10.4.6)

Manifisation is random, and I can't link any specific behaviour to the event. I'll be in the middle of reading an email or browsing and the monitor will flicker and just have a 'blank' screen. I can either turn it off/on or wait until the monitor goes into standby and move the mouse. Unfortunatelly its gotten to the point where the monitor just goes 'blank' every minute.
I can run the known Dell fix (a third time), but if something on the Mini is causing this behaviour its pointless to keep trying.
I'm tempted to try using my gf's Dual Core Mini (go figure, she gets the new one and I inherit hers) or just swap her 20" Cinema Display for my Dell 2405FPW

  • 9400M vs ATI HD 4670

I will be using CS3, Editing videos, a game or 2 on windows XP Pro ( Say, Grand Theft Auto ).
I'm definitely going to replace my Aging Late 2006 iMac. Will the 9400M Suffice or is the ATI HD 4760 really that much worth it.
I'm thinking of getting the midrange 21.5" model @ 3.06Ghz.
    Or
the Mid Range Mac Mini @ 2.53Ghz which only comes in the 9400m.

Definitely the ATI. It's only $50 more, isn't it? Your CPU will thank you.

  • ATI Raedon HD2600 or 2600 Pro?

    Hello,
My 24", 2.4 ghz aluminum iMac, purchased in August 2007, has the ATI Radeon HD2600 graphics card with 265 mb of RAM. Is this different than the ATI Radeon HD2600 Pro card that requires the firmware update?
I downloaded & installed all the appropriate updates (10.4.11, 1.2.1) and when I downloaded the firmware update & tried to install it, the machine said it did not need it.
Are there 2 cards - the HD 2600 & the HD 2600 Pro? If so, when did the "Pro" card begin to be used? My machine is only 3 months old!
    bub_star

Only some of the HD 2600 cards require the update, but their specifications are all the same. Your iMac has the same video card still shipping with the iMac.... technology hasn't left you behind just yet
It seems if the Video RAM on your iMac w/HD 2600 card is from a certain vendor, THEN you need the update.

  • ATI Raedon X1900 malfunctioning in 2006 Mac Pro 1, 1

Thanks in advance for any help I am in a bind!
The graphics card mentioned above is malfunctioning primarily when playing any type of video files. Specifically my display will cut off and any other display that is attached. I haven't noticed any visual problems with my monitors just that it appears when processing video files my monitor blacks out like the signal from the card is cutting off. I know it's not my display because it has done this on multiple displays including tv connection.
What I primarily want to know is if this is something that could be fixed (and any suggestions on where to start) or if I would be better off upgrading the card. I would have already purchased one (I've got the 5770 in mind) but I want to make sure that this will fix the problem or if another internal problem is causing the blackout.
    Thanks again in advance!

In reply to myself - and others; of course,
So I decided that the heat of the graphics was causing the malfunction. When Playing HD video within 20-30m would shut off completly. Upon inspection of this problem I physically felt the graphics card with my hand and, I didn't actually measure the temperature but, was probably in the 175 degree range, or more; I don't really know.
I put a regular fan in front of the computer, with a high setting of 3, and pointed it directly into the computer (side panel removed) and what would you guess happened folks? It solved my problem! Unbelievable! Anyway I am very proud of this "temporary" solution and wanted to share my results.
Since this discovery I have found the PERFECT fan that fits exactly into the side of the computer by slightly pulling out the 3rd driver bay and hanging this small high velocity fan from it that I got at True Value for less than 10 bucks!
If anyone is interested in the exact product I bought (available online or at True Value) and a picture of how I placed the fan onto the computer reply to this post and I will post a link that will provide all information.
    Regards,
    Eric

  • MOVED: Fan Control on ATI HD 4670 Mobility on MSI GX 623 laptop

This topic has been moved to MSI Notebook.
    https://forum-en.msi.com/index.php?topic=138890.0

    Hi flyby99,
The VGA module on the laptop does not have a dedicated fan like a regular video card does therefore you don't see a fan control for it.
The fan is controlled by main BIOS and its speed varies depending by system temperature. There's no way to change its speed, thank you.

  • Is it possible to upgrade the grapic card from ATI 4670 to ATI 4850

    Hello,
i bought a 27inch iMac with an ATI Radeon 4670 grapic chip. At the moment the peformance in Games is enough for me. But for the upcoming PC-Games like Diablo 3 or Starcraft 2, i need a better grapic chip.
So is it possible afterwards to upgrade the 4670 to 4850? It must be a MXM Standard. From there it should not be a problem or?
I hope someone can answer my question.
    Sorry for my bad english
    W. Jacob

    Hi-
Unfortunately, it is both brutally difficult and (of course) warranty voiding to attempt such a thing.
If you are adventurous, take a trip to ifixit.com to get an idea of the difficulity for swapping out the daughterboard graphics chip.
The only way to squeeze the most performance out of your iMac for gaming is to install 64 bit windows 7 via bootcamp, and max out with 16gb ram. Not much you can do besides that.

  • ATI HD 6000 / 7000 series support in CS6?

    Hey all,
I've been planning on snagging a GTX 570 for a while, for my upcoming use w/ Adobe Premiere. Are ATI cards being supported more w/ CS6? I may have to rethink my purchase if they are, since it appears that some of the ATI cards offer better bang for the buck in my price range.
    Thanks,

Actually, upon CS6's initial release, only the HD 6750M and HD 6770M GPUs inside MacBook Pros and iMacs will be officially supported in the OpenCL portion of MPE's GPU acceleration - and only on those systems running OSX 10.7 or higher. Desktop Radeon cards and those running in Windows will not be officially supported initially, and thus will likely be stuck in software-only mode until an update becomes available.

  • [SOLVED]Swapping from xf86-video-ati driver to catalyst

    Hey everyone,
So as the title implies, I need some help on this.  I tried doing a pacman -R xf86-video-ati, then setting my xorg over to vesa as the driver prior to installing the catalyst driver.  That part went fine.  Installed catalyst which updated my xorg accordingly.  Rebooted, and X won't load.  So per ATI's instructions, I removed the catalyst driver, reloaded, did a new xorg - configure and worked my way back to xf86-video-ati.
I would really like to get catalyst going.  Where did I screw up on my first attempt?  I saw somewhere on the forum that you can actually get 3d working with the xf86 driver, but I forgot to bookmark that thread lol.  Here's a copy of my current xorg if it helps at all.

It's not Xorg that is the issue. It's the Catalyst drivers, they only support up to Xorg 1.6.
So you will have to downgrade Xorg in order to use them.
I'm using the xf86-video-ati drivers myself on Xorg 1.7 with a HD4850, 2D works fine. Xv and especially 3D is a no-go so far, but my system has been running for just a day now, so i'm still setting up lots of things.
In the new kernel (2.6.32) there is KMS support for the Radeon HD3xxx and HD4xxx series. I'm hoping that will get the drm module working (fails to initialize over here), and i'm hoping that will bring me at least Xv support, so I can watch videos properly. The open-source ati driver does support it.
So if you can wait for that kernel to move from testing to core, that's what I would do before jumping into the Xorg 1.6 and Catalyst "jungle".
    [Edit]
I got Xv working by disabling KMS tries by the kernel, using "nomodeset" in my kernel boot line.
    OpenGL attempts (even glxgears) crashes
