Attempting to share keyword files in Bridge

I am trying to share keywords among users on a MAC. I have exported teh keyword list from one machince and imported into another. The seondary user is unable to search using imported keywords. Only a partial group og images comes up. It is not finding 80% even though the metadata is there.
Please advise.
thanks

Only a partial group og images comes up. It is not finding 80% even though the metadata is there.
Be sure to use the find command itself for this. Choose the main folder containing all subfolders with images as source.
Also set both the option to 'include all subfolders' and  'include non indexed files' to On.
The first time Bridge needs some time to index all metadata but once this has been done (check the activity var bottom left in Bridge window) it should work.

  • Can't assign keyword to my raw (.nef) files in Bridge cs4

I have no problems assigning the keywords on my list onto my .jpg files (by selecting the file, and then check the box on the left of any keyword on the keyword list), but when I try to do the same to my .nef (raw) files, the message "The file "xxx.nef" cannot store xmp metadata. No changes will occur." comes up, and won't let me add the keywords.
I believe that metadata (including keywords) for this type of files in Bridge is stored in sidecar xmp files in order not to alter anything in the original file, but if that is the case, is there a way that I can add keywords/ metadata into the sidecar xmp files in Bridge?
    Thanks in advance!

As a Canon user I have no experience with NEF files but also can't recall problems with not writing metadata to it in Bridge.
Can you provide more details on how you handle these files. Are they not locked, and not stored on read only storage? or are they just plain NEF files imported from your CF card to the computer?
Have you also tried to convert the NEF to DNG files using the free Adobe DNG Converter?
Metadata is stored in the XMP data inside the file itself and should also stay there after converting to other file formats like tiff or jpg. The data for changes made in ACR are stored in a sidecar XMP file if you have set the preferences for it in Bridge.

  • IMovie error - cannot create file when I attempt to share

I am using MAC OS X 10.9.5, iMovie 10.0.5.  I have successfully create many movies by using Share to file - of long and short sizes. This particular time I made couple of minor edits to my movie which had previous shared to file with no problem, and when I went to Share to File I get an error message. The Share fails with the error "cannot create file".
I have plenty of disk space.
All other applications are closed, just imovie running.
The destination is the mac internal hard drive.
I deleted imovie and re-installed it.
    I deleted the Render Files.
    No luck.
Any clues would be greatly appreciated.
    Super frustrated.
    Thanks.

you can download it from here: http://www.versiontracker.com/dyn/moreinfo/macosx/10057115&vid=11116557&mode=inf o
My only backup is version 8.2 and will not open my itunes library - is there a workaround for this?
    maybe. you could try this:
to downgrade to a previous iTunes version, you could try this user tip that seemed to have worked for some:
    +1) Quit iTunes.+
+2) Delete iTunes from your Applications folder.+
+3) Go to your ~/Music/iTunes folder. Delete or rename the "iTunes Library" file.+
+4) Open the "Previous iTunes Libraries" folder and look for the backup of your old pre-9 library; it should be dated at about the time you first ran iTunes 9. Copy it back out to the ~/Music/iTunes folder, and rename it to "iTunes Library".+
+6) click here to download iTunes 8.2.1. The page says it's for G3, but the Read Me file says it'll run on G4, G5, and Intel too. Open the disk image and run the installer.+
+You should now be able to run iTunes 8.2.1 again.+
+And your iTunes will restore to before you upgraded and you won't lose anything+.
    good luck !

  • Error when Writing Metadata to Files in Bridge (Mac) but not in Bridge (PC)

We get an error when writing metadata to files in Bridge (Mac) but not in Bridge (PC). In the same drive and folder, the PC can successfully write a keyword to a file on the PC, where the Mac returns an error. I have researched this at the Adobe Knowledgebase, but their answer seemed to indicate it was a global issue, and we don't see that behavior on the PC.
The client is a Mac of course, and the server volume is a Windows share volume. The Mac is bound to AD, and the domain\username and username formats have both been tried when logging in, but you receive the error in both.
    Any help would be appreciated.
    Thanks!

Hi, I'm having the same problem using FreeNAS (which uses Samba and Netatalk in the backend), but I tried with both AFP and SMB on Mavericks and Yosemite, I still have the same issue.  I think it might be a timing issue with how lightroom interact with a slower write delay using network shares.  I suggest you also chime into this thread:  Lightroom 5 can't write metadata to DNG files   I really hope this is resolved as this is impacting my productivity as I moved my workflow to my Macbook with a shared NAS.

  • How can I share keywords across a local network?

I work at a media business and we haves a NAS (Network-Attached Storage) system where we keep all our stock resources on. I like to keep it organized and I ad keywords to most of our files so I can easely find them later. But we have a few other people in the office that need access to the same files and the keywords I add to the files using bridge(CC) do not transfer over the network.
Is their a way to embed the keywords into the files so that we can share the same keywords across the network onto other computers? Or is their another way to do this?
    Thanks
    Joshua

Some users manage to use BRidge over a network, but it takes work and Bridge is not meant for work over a network or a digital assesst manager.
Keywords are added to the image itself, but the keyword file is added to the users cache location.  For others to see the entry all users must access the same cache.  At least this is the way I understand it.

  • Keyword File Import

I cannot seem to import a keyword file to lightroom. I cannot seem to find any reference to what lightroom considers a valid file.
Strangely, if I export my keywords from lightroom and then try to re-import them Lightroom still comes up with an invalid file warning. So lightroom does not accept the validity of the very file that it created as an exported keyword file?*!
Has anyone managed to import a keyword file into lightroom?
I had been wanting to get my Controlled Vocab list into lightroom since the beta and yesterday came accross the following. http://www.shepherdpics.com/Blog/2007/02/how-to-use-controlled-vocabulary-in.html
But I just can't help but think there is some sort of bug here.
    Thanks for any insights.....

Just another instance of the Bridge and LR teams operating out of separate bunkers seemingly oblivious to what each is doing, or worse, has DONE in the past. The LR team must have thought that we would all come to LR as complete Newbies without established workflows, archives, duplicate named client files, etc (I could go on, but the copious posts are there to read) that included other Adobe products (the exception, PS)like Bridge where we would have built up keyword hierarchies.
Your problem is the same as mine. And this thread has forewarned me not to attempt keyword conversion in LR. I have thousands of keywords in other XMP and XML aware apps and archives that would have to be brought into LR if I were to adopt it in my workflow. But, I won't be even considering that until LR is truly out of 'Beta'--and it isn't really yet. They have just called it V1.

Sorry for the late reply. My email firewall has become a little over zealous & sent a lot of my emails straight to my junk email folder, so I have only just now discovered your reply in my junk mail folder.
The only "don't open files exceeding xxx megabytes" instruction I can find in my Prefs, is in the Bridge Prefs for Thumbnails, & mine is set at 1000mb. The biggest files I handle are bigger than 200mb so I should be able to open a few, not just one.
However, this doesn't explain why I can open a psd format file of 180mb, close it, but then can't open a RAW format file of only 26mb immediately after.
I can open the RAW file only if I restart my computer - very annoying!
However, thanks for the advice about the video card & memory.
So, I'm still stuck as to what the issue is.

  • The processing of Group Policy failed. Windows attempted to read the file...

    Hello all-
I am currently trying to configure group policy (specifically folder redirects) from a new Windows Server 2008 in my home... the server acts as both an AD DS and file server for 4 client computers, all running Windows Vista Ultimate.
Here are the steps I am currently taking:
I create a new Group Policy called All Users and Computers and apply it to the All Users and Computers OU, which contains exactly what it says (all users and computers in the domain).
    I verify that a new folder was created in \\<FQDN>\sysvol\<FQDN>\Policies.  The new folder created is named {6479C8E0-3134-4B4F-B047-7ADD51684684}
I change the GPO Enforced setting to Enforced.
I attempt to use the gpupdate command to see if the group policy can be updated successfully.  In a command prompt, I type gpupdate <enter>.  I receive the message 'Updating Policy...' then after about 15 seconds the message 'User Policy update has completed successfully.'
I keep the cmd window open.  After about 10 seconds another message apperas which says "Computer policy could not be updated successfully.  The following errors were encountered: The processing of Group Policy failed.  Windows attempted to read the file \\<FQDN>\sysvol\<FQDN>\Policies\{6AC1786C-016F-11D2-945F-00C04Fb984F9}\gpt.ini from a domain controller and was not successful.  Group Policy settings may not be applied until this event is resolved. This issue may be transient and could be caused by one or more of the following:
    a) Name Resolution/Network Connectivity to the current domain controller.
    b) File Replication Service Latency (a file created on another domain controller has not replicated to the current domain controller).
    c) The Distributed File System (DFS) client has been disabled.
To diagnose the failure, review the event log or invoke gpmc.msc to access information about Group Policy results."
I confirm that the error code is #3 using the Event Log, "The system cannot find the file specificed"
Of course the system cannot find the file specified because the folder does not exist in the sysvol folder. I am wondering why Windows is trying to read from this location when it does not exist, and is not the new group policy I created!  I have no other group policies linked or enforced to any other OU/Domain/etc.  Any help resolving this issue would be greatly appreciated.

Hello all and thanks for the help.  First a few things:
I understand that the DC should not be running RRAS, but this a simple server being used in aa home environment by 4 users and getting another server just for RRAS would be overkill.
Secondly, I currently have it so that while the router is handling DHCP, I have reserved a fixed IP for the server, so it always has 192.168.1.100.  If I were to use the server as the DHCP, what would my hardware configuration have to look like?  I currently have the router plugged into the ISP modem, and then server plugged into the router.  All other clients connect to the router wirelessly.
Here's the dcdiag output.  I tried dcdiag /fix but to no avail.

  • Avi files causing Bridge to shut down -- why?

I just installed  the CS5 upgrade (from CS4) on my Windows 7 laptop. I also ran the latest PhotoShop updates which loaded ACR 6.3 among other updates. I needed that one in order to process ORF files from my Olympus E-5.
Now, I can see and edit the ORF files in Bridge with no problem. However, if I attempt to open an images folder that contains an .avi file created with my Olympus E-5, Bridge shuts down with a message "Adobe Bridge CS5 has stopped working". The system looks for a fix to the problem, but naturally doesn't find one.
I'm not attempting to edit these .avi files -- they just happen to be in the same folder as my ORF images. I ended up moving the .avi files to a separate folder, and now I can open the images folder. But I don't want to have to do this every time I take .avi movies with my new camera. I download the ORF images with the .avi files from my camera at the same time.
    Any thoughts?

I have exactly the same problem and can't work out why. It seems Bridge crashes with the "Adobe Bridge CS5 has stopped working" message every time it tries to diaply any folder containing a video file.
So if bridge is open and I try to import a mixture of pictures and videos from a memory card, Bridge crashes when it gets to importing the video file.
Likewise, if I just open Bridge and then navigate to a folder which contains a video file, it crashes when it tries to open that folder.
I have to resort to the same work-around as the previous poster and use Windows explorer to move all the video files out of the folder prior to using Bridge to view that folder.
My previous versions of Bridge did not have this problem and worked as intended. Does anybody have a solution?

  • Keywords in Adobe Bridge CS4

I've been experimenting with Bridge's metadata functionality, and I'm confused about the relationship between keywords that are added to a jpeg in Bridge, and keywords that are added to a jpeg manually (outside of Bridge, by right-clicking file, Properties > Summary > Description > Keywords)? Are the keywords mutually exclusive of one another, or do they relate to the same piece of metadata?
I added some keywords to a jpeg file and then closed Bridge. As expected, the keywords were picked up in Bridge when I re-opened the application, but the keywords were not visible by right-clicking the file and choosing properties > summary > keywords. Are the keywords supposed to be visible in the file properties or are the keywords stored in Bridge's configuration?
I tried searching Google for an answer to this to no avail, so I thought I'd ask in here (Photography seemed to be the best place to post this thread, but apologies if this question belongs somewhere else).
    TIA,
    Mike

They should be the same no matter where entered. If keywords are not viable in the thumbnail go to edit/preferences/thumbnails and make sure that keywords are checked as "additional lines of metadata".
On my machine right click in CS3 and file info yields keywords. Right click in Windows and properties yields keywords also, but called tags in Vista.

  • CS4 Bridge Keywords - Delete when Bridge is close.

    Greetings
I have gone through and applied keywords to hundreds of images, along with a respective Hierarchy KeyWords as well. As long as Bridge remains open and my computer is on I have access to sort, and find files based on Keywords.
"Close Bridge" : and all Keywords are missing from Keyword pane, excluding the few that are present with Bridge as examples that are always there.
I can, re-select all the images, and the keywords will load again into the Keyword pane, but that takes about hour to manage.
It is like some preference file is not being read, or the Keywords are not saved to the Keywords pane. I have loaded again this App from Photoshop CS4.
One person suggested I go into Preferences and un-click "Read Hierarchy keywords" then open all my image folders and again click on the images to reload the keywords into the Keyword pane again. Then go back to preferences and re-click Read Hierarchy Keywords again, and that everything should be in order. I have done this twice, once with starting Bridge again before re-clicking RHK button again.
Still after two years of having Bridge CS4, I can not used this function to search for images.
And yes, I do select a folder or mounting disk for Bridge to look at for finding the Keywords.
After all this time, has anyone solve the riddle of trying to make this work. I can not update my MAC. I have a PowerPC, Quick Silver, 2002 G4, dual 1000. So 10.4.11 is the last operating system I believe I can use.
    Thanks for you help.
    Have a good day.

    Hello Curt
    Thank you for your reply.
This Keyword system was working earlier, that is I could shut off the computer and come back to open Bridge and the keywords were there.
As you suggested the keyword did come up in Italics as I began working with them a few days ago, because someone had responded to an old Thread of mine from this site from almost a year ago. Initially there were coming up as persistent in normal font face.
I followed your suggestion with a smaller batch of Keywords, then shut down the computer and, and they were present when the program came back up.
    So Thanks, that works.
This will get me back on the right track again with Keywords.
I have no idea what iniciated a change of from persistent keywords to loosing them all in the past. But at least cognitively, I now have a clear process for getting them to show up again on start.
    Thanks again for your reply.

  • Keywords applied from Bridge

I have many Parent/Child keywords set up in Bridge and applied to DNGs. When I import the DNGs into LR The first folder imported creates the correct Parent/Child setup in LR for as many of those at are include in that folder. Any subsequent import makes all keywords from imported images appear as Parents not respecting their place as Children (obnoxious kids?). I tried exporting the keywords from Bridge and importing them into LR but all imported images/keywords still show as Parents ignoring the keyword tags. Is there any way for LR to respect the Parent/Child setup I made in Bridge?
    John

Thanks. I searched but never found that message. I looked at my files in Bridge and I do not have that extra line of code. I also did another test where I started from scratch using the keywords imported into LR from Bridge. The first import put the keywords in the right Child place. The 2nd import started putting all Children as Parents using the same keyword as the Child already there.

  • Copy Labels (text) in Illustrator file into keyword (file info) field

I'm curious if there is any way to copy the text in an illustrator file, and paste it into the keyword field within the file info dialog box, with those words being separated by commas.
If I do this manually, the text is pasted as one long running word, making the keywords useless.
I do have an applescript which extracts the text from an illustrator file, and pastes it into an excel file, separating the words with commas, with file name. However, it doesn't seem possible to then import this data back in to multiple files. Bridge doesn't appear to be capable of this....
..so the alternative I can see would be to get the text directly into the file info box, separated by commas... just not sure how.
any ideas? I have thousands upon thousands of artfiles that need to be keyworded somehow!

    Hallo Jay,
I think there is two ways:
    a) Although I have no serious experiences with Bridge scripting I think you need a Bridge script which runs over your Illustrator files, calls an Illustrator script for collected labels and use the Bridge API to write the metadata back into the file.
    b) You write an Illustrator script which runs over the files and collects the labels and creates a text file with these information (file name, keywords). Process this file and use a 3rd party XMP tool for adding these keywords to the file.
    Regards,
    Tom

  • I can't rename or move RAW files in Bridge (Mac)

Permissions are all set to read/write in finder and other file formats are fine. Batch rename just does nothing, trying to move it gets the error message "The operation cannot be completed because you do not have sufficient permissions"
Running Mac OS X Lion 10.7.3 and all software is up to date.
    Help?

    Alas, I just found a jpeg I can't move.
There are two things to try also.
Don't know if you have cached a lot of files already but personally I would manual dump the Cache file for Bridge and also the second option, dump the plist file for bridge.
You have to cache the files again but that takes only a bit of time, depending on amount and file size.
Also you have to go to the user library that by default is hidden in 10.7. I'm still on 10.6 but there are a lot of solutions on Google to retrieve the user library.
Quit Bridge (and for safety all other CS Suite apps.)
in the user library preferences folder find the Bridge  (still not clear what version you are using?) plist file but for CS5 that is Bridge version 4 (com.adobe.bridge4.plist) and manual drag to the trash.
Then in the same library caches folder go to Adobe/BridgeCS5 / and in here delete both the cache folder and plug in to the trash.
Again run check and repair permissions on your Mac and then restart Bridge again with option key and again reset preferences.
Yes, you have to recreate the custom settings but that is only a few minutes, al your saved workspaces and keyword list are still in place and workspace reset gets your saved workspaces back (only without the UI colors, but those are also easy to recreate)
