ATV1 - no HDMI video

My ATV is connected to my home receiver (Yamaha Aventage PX800) via HDMI. Occasionally when I switch my receiver to the AppleTV HDMI input to watch video or listen to music, the ATV video will not come on. I can hear it working, just no video. All my other video inputs work just fine when switching, just not the ATV. I've tried disconnecting the HDMI and waiting 10 seconds then reconnecting. No luck. I've tried connecting the HDMI directly to my TV, no luck. The only way to get video is to completely restart the ATV. Can anyone tell me what the issue is and if there is a better solution.

try connecting directly to the tv appletv don't play nicely with many hdmi switches which receivers use
and many people have to use optical to the receiver to make it work

  • Conecting Mini DVI to HDMI Video Cable with my mac book pro

Hi. I just bought Mini DVI to HDMI Video Cable to connect my mac book pro to my HD TV. I connected the cables and put my TV on HDMI input. On the TV it appears the Snow Leopard Background but I can't see my desktop or the icons. What should I do to view my mac book pro on the Tv? Thanks!

    Hi y3p3v3,
On the TV it appears the Snow Leopard Background but I can't see my desktop or the icons. What should I do to view my mac book pro on the Tv? Thanks!
You've got it connected, and you're viewing it already! Connect it up again, and try dragging a window either to the left, or right, off your built-in screen. You'll find that it appears on your TV!
What you're doing is running the computer in "extended desktop" mode. That means that your TV screen is available to put things on, but won't show your menu bar, dock, or icons. Those remain on the "primary screen" which remains your MBP's built-in display.
When the TV is plugged in, go to System Preferences --> Displays
The main System Preferences window will remain on your MBP's screen, but a second one should appear on the TV as well. If you go to the one on your MBP's screen, and click the "Arrangement" tab, you'll see two screens shown in the diagram. One will have a menubar. That's your MBPs screen. You can drag the menubar to the other screen to change the primary screen to the TV.
OR, you can just click "Mirror Displays" and your TV will show the exact same picture as your MBP display. This option is the simplest and will accomplish what you want, I think.
If you have any other questions, or if you need any clarification, feel free to ask!

Not sure that I have selected the correct forum.  Hope my questions are clearly stated.
Having problems connecting iMac(late 2006) running 10.7.5 to a Samsung Flat Screen TV using separate audio/speaker cable and HDMI standard cable, mini-DVI to HDMI video converter.  TV displays generic Apple galaxy background and "some" windows (e.g. screen resolution choices).   It does not show Mail or Safari menus.  System preferences'  display "gathered" the Samsung and chose its resolution.  I did not find a way to select the Samsung as my display.
In addition to having old hardware, we have Verizon FIOS providing internet and TV access.  Is there any way to make this work for us?  We would like to stream video (Netflix) and view shows from the Web.  Do we need Apple TV to do this?  Or is it not possible with our old iMac?  My husband thinks that our Airport could be a factor.
    Thank you

Lately, I have been seeing a lot of posts with users trying to use their Macs/iMacs to mirror their streaming video from their Macs to an HDTV.
There are, actually, many alternatives to choose from than just from a Mac.
You need to have or invest in a WiFi capable router for all of these examples.
Apple TV only integrates with WiFi and newer Mac hardware. So, if you want to have total integrated experience, if you have a 2011 Mac or newer, you might as well pay the $100 for the AppleTV box.
If you have a older Mac, like I have noticed many users do, then you have other options.
If you want to elimate long cable clutter and having your Mac at the mercy of your TV all of the time,  you can still use the AppleTV box independently or purchase cheaper alternative media streaming boxes from Roku, Sony, Boxee or any number of electronics manufacturers that now have media streaming boxes and media streaming capability built into DVD/Blu-ray players.
These eliminate long cable clutter by being close to the HDTV where shorter, less expensive cables can be used.
Another alternative for iPad users is to use an iPad with the USB/HDMI video adapter and use your iPad as the streaming box. This ties up your iPad in much the same way as it does with your Mac, but again the iPad can be close to the TV and use minimal cables to the TV.
Another alternative to is to use a combination of an iPad and your Mac to stream content that is only available to stream online from a computer. In this case, you can use a desktop remote app on your iPad and Mac. A good and cheap Desktop Remote app is Splashtop Remote. This allows you to completely connect your iPad remotely, over Wifi, to your iMac desktop. The app streams both video and sound to the iPad which is still connected to your HDTV. The resultant stream video picture will be smaller than the size of your HDTV, but it will still be plenty large enough to watch. Again, if you own a iPad and an Intel Mac, this method also allows minimal cabling to the TV.

  • Macbook pro to hdmi video/audio output TV

I Bought a mini display port to hdmi cable, to play dispaly my desktop on my LCD TV. the display works just fine, but there's no sound. I try to follow the steps in youtube, but the problem is, there's no sound output detected. Any ideas on how to solve this? Because, what i know is that hdmi can both deliver hdmi video and audio.

  • Mac mini (late 2012) HDMI video going blank randomly in Yosemite 10.10.1; sometimes comes back on with snowy screen

Wow, this reminds me of what happened with Mavericks 10.9.0 until 10.9.3 and later were released and fixed this problem.
My monitor is a Dell S2440L connected to my Mac mini late 2012 via an HDMI cable.
The monitor goes blank randomly and sometimes a snowy screen like you would see when watching a UHF
channel on an old CRT TV shows up when the video comes back on. This happens while in the OS.
I also have power management problems again with computer not sleeping properly and my Magic Mouse
being able to wake up the computer despite "Allow Bluetooth devices to wake this computer" being unchecked.
I also have Wake for network access, power nap and start up after power failure unchecked as well.
Computer sleep and display sleep are set to "never" as I always had it with Mavericks.
These problems occurred after shutting down my Mac and restarting it this morning.
I know using a VGA cable will fix it but I don't want to do that.
Sorry for sounding frustrated but I'm not alone. So many people are having the same issue
of HDMI video blanking out while in the OS.
I love the look of Yosemite but wish I was back with Mavericks 10.9.5 where everything worked
flawlessly and I really mean flawlessly. It was magical. Not a single problem.
I guess we have to wait for 10.10.2 or 10.10.3.
I don't want to go back to Mavericks but if my screen keeps blanking out then my computer is of
no use for work or multimedia.
    I'm sorry about the rant.
If anyone has figured out a workaround until Apple can issue another point release, please let me know.
I already tried resetting the SMC and NVRAM several times to no avail.
    Thanks in advance.
    I appreciate any help.
    Paul

  • K1 - HDMI video out issue

    Hello,
    First post to this forum.
I bought my K1 end of November.  I purchased two micro-HDMI cables, and not seeing video out.  Briefly saw the picture on screen once or twice, but nothing consistent.  Have plugged my K1 into 4 or 5 different HDMI-enabled monitors/TVs, no luck.  The cable doesn't seem to sit very securely in the hdmi port.  These are definitely micro HDMI cables I purchased from two different sources (not mini-HDMI).  They may only have been HDMI 1.3 version cables, but I think they should have worked.
Sent my K1 in for Lenovo service and came back this week. Everything with HDMI checked out according to Lenovo support.  I actually just ordered two more "high speed" 3 ft cables from monoprice hoping this solves the issue (version 1.4).  I should have the two new cables next week
Has anyone else had issues with HDMI video out?  I would like to know from others if the HDMI worked well for them.  Don't know what to expect.
    Thanks!
    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

My Micro HDMI to HDMI cable works fine with my K1.  I have to watch that my micro HDMI plug is fully into the K1's socket, because my case sometimes is too close to the socket and the plug touches my case preventing the plug to fit all the way into the socket and making connection.  Like the case.   It's a MoKo from Amazon.com for $20.

  • HDMI video cards

    hi all,
I bought a DVI to HDMI adapter to use on my G4 and it works like a charm. Do they make any straight forward HDMI video cards to use on older G4 Macs?

Hopefully japamac drops in, but you might look to see if something like this can be flashed with Mac Rooms & taped off to work with less that 8x AGP...

  • Brand New ATV3 - No HDMI video signal.

Brand New (2013) ATV3 - No HDMI video signal when plugging it in to my TV (Toshiba 52" LED).
Ive tried 3 different HDMI cables in 3 different HDMI inputs in various configurations. Still no video.
Ive tried power cycling ATV and my TV, and changing resolutions using the Apple remote - Still nothing.
Ive seen serveral forums offering many but unhelpful options.
Yes, my TV is set to the same HDMI input as the HDMI cable is plugged into.
    Please help?

You tried difference HDMI cables, different HDMI ports, cycled the ATV, confirmed optical audio output works. Do you have another HDTV to plug in and test? If ATV video fails to appear in this case, I would say that this would confirm the Apple TV HDMI output is broken given the extensive troubleshooting you have already performed. In my opinion, this would completely isolate the diagnosis as ATV malfunction. Did you purchase it via Apple or Third party? Apple will replace the device within 14 days no questions asked, or service it within one year. If third party, contact them regarding your coverage.
How long is my Apple TV covered by Apple’s warranty?
Apple's Limited Warranty for Apple TV covers your Apple TV for one year. Warranty service for eligible repairs is available at no charge for twelve months from the date of original retail purchase ("date of purchase").

  • HDMI video not supporting on nokia n8

    Hi Team,
My H/S is Nokia N8,No doubt about the performance, however have downloaded HDMI video but not working..
Can I know what format would be working and what format shall I download

I think you are mistaken. HDMI is not a video format. HDMI is an output port for fast data transfer. What exactly did you download anyway?
If you find my post helpful please click the green star on the left under the avatar. Thanks.

  • HDMI video capture card

I need to specify a HDMI video capture card to work with Adobe Flash for the DCO application on a Dell T3500 PC. The system also includes a Black Magic Designs H.264 Pro Recorder for recording training sessions. Can anyone recommend a card that will work?
    Thanks

No problem. Be warned, though. As far as I know, M series camcorders are only available on secondhand markets right now, and if you happen to find, say, a Vixia HF M500 new and unopened, the after-market price might be a little higher.

  • HT1338 FCP-X 10.1.3 will not output HDMI video through Blackmagic Intensity Pro

I can not get HDMI video output through FCP-X 10.1.3.  I tested the card and I get video through it to my HDMI monitor using Blackmagic Media Express, so I know the card, monitor, and cable are in perfect working condition.  I have windows>AV output selected in FCP-X, but can not get a signal through.  Has anyone else experienced this?  Any answers out there?  I think it is a bug, and a major one at that.  I really need this for color grading and to properly view my actual clips.

I guess my system just did not like Wednesday.  I started it all up today and it is working like a charm, just like it should.  There is no reason it did not start yesterday as I had restarted my Mac Pro several times.  We shall leave it as unknown computer glitch as nothing else fits!  Did nothing different, don't know, but all is fine on Thursday morning.

  • Hdmi video

HDMI Video stopped working only home screen displayed.

    Hi,
I was just hooking up my laptop the same way and got my desktop screen with nothing on it. I put in the movie and could not see anything. For some reason I moved my mouse off the left side of the computer screen and noticed it showed up on the TV. I held it down and pulled it back to the right and my video came sliding onto the TV screen. In other words, it was playing off to the side of my TV screen. I just pulled it into view. Perhaps this is done so you can watch a movie and use the laptop at the same time..
I hope this is helpful. Perhaps someone has a more precise solution or more accurate description.

  • [SOLVED] MacBook Pro 6,2 Intel 5/3400 Card: HDMI Video OK, No Audio

I have an older MacBook with a current install of ArchLinux on it.  This version uses the Intel Corporation 5 Series/3400 Chipset.   I am using ALSA, no PulseAudio.  I can connect it to an external HDMI output and use an external display (XFCE>Settings>Displays) and activate the video.  But when I try different audio devices, I notice I have no options for HDMI audio output.  Is this because I have disabled the NVIDIA card on MacBook like so with grub2 outb commands directly to the UEFI firmware ?  Is there anyway to get the Intel card to HDMI audio output?

Needless to say I do not think this is possible unless you use the Nvidia card, from lots of lspci tests and experimenting with booting it on and off.  I am going to mark this as solved, as I am only using the discrete IGP graphics card and do not feel like wasting juice unless rebooting to watch movies for a long time.

  • HDMI Video input upgrade for HP Pavilion Elite m9060n Media-Center PC...What is simplest route?

The Media Centre came with TV tuner etc; I have upgraded the Graphics card to Nvidia GeForce 450GTS which has two HDMI outputs. I need an HDMI input to get the best signal input from my cable box...the best input the existing TV tuner offers is "S-Video",which ain't exactly high-grade. What is the simplest solution for a tech-challenged individual like me? (I don't really need "tuning" facility...but require some form of input. If you help a media-moron the gods will bless you.

You cannot run an HDMI out from a cable-box to a PC Tv-Tuner card in port. THe main reason is industry standard copy protection and HDCP. Unfortunately, you have an NTSC only tuner - so the answer is no HD from cable...only ATSC from an aerial antenna. If you install a QAM tuner, you can run the coax directly in and get unprotected HD programming.
