Audio capture - good quality

I understand that the 5G can capture good quality audio now.
How?

No No No they do not. What is it we are trying to do,
convert the IPOD into a PVR. Not enough hardware in
the IPOD to do that. You need what I bought:

Nope. I just want to access the hi-res audio capture, NOT video capture etc. The 5G iPod DOES allow hi-res audio input; but no one says how...

  • For good quality sound in iPod.

    Hello:
I'd like to know which way is better to keep a good quality on the iPod. Many people goes for the mp3, OK, compatible with a lot of devices in the world, a lot of songs in a CD or card, easy way, but WHAT ABOUT THE QUALITY???
AAC at 128 is good, I know. For many users better than an mp3 file at 160.
I ask what is better or doesn't matter:
    1. All my library (My Music) are in mp3 at 192 vbr. All of them are imported from original CDs. Even so, these songs aound with distorsions, maybe because of the compression. In the laptop and in the iPod.
This distorsion sounds like a wave, as if somebody is playing with any equalizer button moving from left to right
    2. If an mp3 file (encoded and imported from an original CD of music) is converted to WAV or Apple lost less, will improve the quality? I mean, I wonder if a compressed file (mp3) could "go back" to an "uncompressed" statement? Or is better to import and encode again from the original CDs to a WAV or Apple lost less formats?
I make the comparison with the video formats. If a DVD is copied to a VHS, the VHS tape will get excellent quality, but if the VHS content is coppied to a DVD, "this DVD will continue being VHS"...
In my discman, the songs sound excellent (compilated CDs) and sometimes I think that the iPod is so sensitive, so good that captures "and enhance" the audio noises or deffects from the CDs.
    Thks 4 your help.

    mariocarnival,
Your VHS-DVD analogy is accurate. Once your music has been encoded in a "lossy" format (mp3 or aac) you're not going to be able to get any fidelity back by converting those files to a higher quality.
For some other thoughts, have a look at Jeff Bryan's post .
If any of your questions remain unanswered, post back.

  • App to capture high quality video; clip; bulk export high quality?

Our students capture long videos in a high quality format (.DV), then often want to define clips within the movie, and hand them off to Compressor for compression. Unfortunatly, with the changes in Final Cut Pro X, we can find no viable way of doing that, and we've searched for hours in the app and online. The closet we found was to export stems out of the FCPX timeline using Roles:
    http://www.premiumbeat.com/blog/export-stems-out-of-your-final-cut-pro-x-timelin e-using-roles/
For simply wanting to define multple clips (no combining of clips involved), this is rather tedious, but moreso, when we use this technique, indeed only the video and audio of the clips we hand off to Compressor is seen and heard, but we end up with video black on both sides of the clip, which greatly lengthens the processing time, not to mention that we then need to trim the dead air afterwards.
We tried using iMovie 11, but unlike one or more previous versions, it is no longer possible to export multiple clips.
We've downloaded Adobe Premiere, and will be testing this.
Is there an OS X app that can capture high quality (.DV?) video/audio, make clips, then bulk export to .DV on disk, that doesn't cost over $500?

Thank you, I'm exporting to DV now to try that out.
I was choppy at my explanation, so let me go a little further. Maybe I do just use a DVD player to play this - but, let me explain further - maybe I'm not doing something right in creating the DVD.
I 'shared' from iMovie to iDvd - and burnt right to a DVD. Again, the movie was shaky on the computer. We played it on a DVD player, still a little shaky.. but not near as noticable - it looked pretty good. BUT - this is when the dvd stopped. I hit play, and it picked up right where it left off. I also was skipping through chapters, and it stopped all of the sudden. I had to go back to the main menu to start over. This was all done on a dvd player. Eventually, we played the rest of the video and it went ok. But, something tells me there might be a glitch in the DVD I created.... ?
Someone mentioned they had problems when exporting/burning right to dvd from iMovieHD. They said they exported out, then dragged the file into iDVD.. is that an option - if so, how would I go about doing that?

  • Multitrack Audio Capture question ...Not DV related :)

I am wanting to use FCP 5 to capture multitrack audio from a firewire interface such as the MOTU 828mkII while capturing video from my Kona LS at the same time.
the FCP 5 page says, "Multichannel audio lets you capture and output up to 24 channels of high-resolution 24-bit, 96kHz audio in a single pass."
I'm not sure if that means that you can capture up to 24 channels while you are capturing video or if the multitrack audio capture requires timecode syncing and capturing audio and video separately. The reason I'm trying to do this is that I want to capture the video and multi track audio live rather than recording to a deck with timecode and syncing it up later. I know this isn't the typical way to do it and that FCP capture is a less reliable way to record than a VTR. I'm aware of my Kona card's multiple audio channels, but I am specifically interested in a multi track audio interface (such as MOTU 828mkII).
I've searched the forums and internet for weeks and I can't find anyone who has suggested that this work. Will a 828mkII just show up as another audio capture device in FCP that will record more than 2 channels during video/audio capture?
    Thanks!

Hi gevus, I know this is somewhat late and if you haven't already found another solution then I would suggest that you purchase a pci sound card e.g. Soundblaster Live can be had for as little as $35.00 from Newegg.com (a very reliable online store with free shipping most of the time).  I capture video with my 9600 aiw pro and use a sb live...my mb also came with an onboard sound processor (nforce2) however, I still prefere the flexability of the Live card...plus dispite reviews on this nforce2 onboard sound as being as good as Live I disagree I listen to (and watch) alot of movies on my computer and have a pair of BOSE headphones. I cound definetely notice a difference in sound quality.  I dont know your video needs but the Audigy card by Creative Labs is even better if you need or want real good quality reproduction however, remember that the audio sorce is the real key to good sound.

  • Audio capture question

    Hello,
I'm trying do to some video editing.  I have a geforce4 4800 (4400 chipset, the msi vi/vo), and a MSI KTV400 motherboard (realtek ac97 audio). Since I have that video card, the sound must be captured from another source (eg. sound card). My camera has the composite outputs (red, white, yellow). I cannot capture any sound because the line-in on the computer doesn't recognize the composite output from the camera (doesn't capture it). I am assuming that the line-in on the sound card is digital. Would this mean that I would need an analog to digital sound converter? If so, where would I obtain this and what would it cost? Or should the line-in on the soundcard (which is on the motherboard) capture the sound? Therefore, it would be my fault. Are there any other suggestions?
Note: i do not have the s-bracket for the motherboard.  How can I obtain one if I need it?
    Thank you in advance,
    Matt

  • Audio Capture Static

I am using XVidCap to try to make a screencast but the audio quality is not good. The problem is background static. I think the mic is pretty good and it had good quality on another machine.
I tried another mic and it also has a hiss. The files are here:
    http://tinyurl.com/yhg9ael
    and
    http://tinyurl.com/yf8m7nc
If I play with the sound level of the pink mic input it seems to change, but nothing sounds good.
Are there other settings I should try to change?
    Thanks!

Thanks for the reply. All cameras are set to 16 bit audio. Nothing has really changed except the Leopard OS upgrade. I am getting a warning box about the audio possibly not syncing, but there is no sync problem. I'm just curious if I'm the only one having this problem with audio static on capturing after the Leopard upgrade. Thanks for any help.

  • How to make a good quality 8 Giga DVD out of a Project in AVI of 14 Gigas?

I have a film in a proyect made with a miniDV camera in my old Premiere 6.5
It has 68 minutes and after exporting it with the Microsoft DV AVI compressor in 100 % quality and not compressing the audio, it  ended in an AVI of 14 Gigas.
I would like to obtain a DVD of the best quality in audio and video possible. How can I do it?  SHOULD I EXPORT IT FROM THE PREMIERE 6.5 WITH ANOTHER COMPRESSOR OR IN LESS THAN 100% QUALITY WITH THE SAME DV AVI COMPRESSOR ? my INTENTION IS TO USE THE NERO VISION AFTERWARDS... I HAVE THE NERO VISION 4...-. FROM 2007- WOULD IT BE OK OR IS THERE A BETTER ONE? - I know there are newer ones...but better?
OR SHOULD I JUST USE THE ACTUAL 14 GIGA AVI PROJECT AND PUT IT STRAIGHT INTO THE NERO ?   I GUESS THIS NERO COMPRESSION SHOULD BE WORST THAN THE ONE THAT THE PREMIERE WOULD MAKE...
Thanks a lot for all the help and advise you could give me !!!!!!!!!!!!!
PS IF IT IS A PROBLEM TO MAKE A GOOD QUALITY 8 GIGA DVD I COULD JUST MAKE A 4  GIGA ONE...

68 minutes DV should fit just nice on a single dvd.
Feed the DV file directly into Nero. Nero will transcode everything for you.
You can also use AME from Premiere 6.5 and export the timeline direct to mpeg2-dvd.
Unfortunately i do not know if Nero is going to re-transcode this mpeg file before burning to dvd.

Hello Thanks for your replys and sorry for being so fussy about this.
I have now seen that one of the options for exporting from Premiere 6.5 is Adobe MPEG encoder. So Do you guys think it would be a good idea to do it with that, Or Would it be better AVI or DV AVI compressor from Premiere before making the DVD?
I have the Nero Vision 4.9.6.6  But I may be able to look for another one if you think it is better...

  • Pro Res in Final cut express How do i get a good quality SD DVD

I recently bought final cut express and have suffered getting a good quality SD DVD out through the workflow from my cannon XHA1.
On screen its fine but when i author through imovie to DVD the quality is poor.
So reading the various threads it would seem that i need to use Pro res and the ingress codec... But cant find this option in express ?
Question is. Is pro res codec available in express and if not can someone suggest the optimum set up for HD capture to SD DVD output
    Many thanks

Use either of these techniques to get good quality DVDs from AIC.
    1. Edit your HDV/AIC in the timeline. Then create a new DV-PAL (NTSC) Anamorphic sequence. Copy your edited HDV/AIC to the new sequence. Do not alter anything. Render the sequence ..... this will take a long time - up to twice the length of the project. Then File>Export>QuickTime Movie (Not Self-contained).
However, if you use the QT Movie in iDVD you will get a squashed 4:3 movie, so first of all you must make QT stretch it out to its proper 16:9 dimensions like this:-
+a. Open the exported movie file in the QT Pro player.+
    +b. Go to Window>Show Movie Properties.+
+c. Select the "Video Track" and in the "Visual Settings" panel uncheck "Preserve Aspect Ratio".+
+d. In the "Scaled Size" box set the width to 1024 pixels for PAL.+
+e. The "Video Track" will have turned grey, so click it to make it blue again.+
+f. The opened movie file will jump to 16:9.+
+g. Close it with the red button and click Save.+
    2. This method is fast. Set your camera to "Locked DV" which means that FCE/FCP will capture it as anamorphic DV and edit it as standard definition anamorphic DV. (Use Easy Setup ... DV-PAL (NTSC) Anamorphic).
You can then Export>QuickTime Movie to be used in iDVD and use the stretching technique mentioned above.

  • DigiVox A/D - Cannot render audio capture

Hello, i have DigiVOX A/D. I configured it and I can watch TV. But when I try to capture it, there is a "Cannot render audio capture" message. I tried a lot of parameters changes but nothing helped. Can you please help?
    Juso

So I did some more testing. Now it works this way:
I can watch TV and it works OK. When I click capture it doesn't work and it writes error message "Cannot render audio capture". I go to settings and setup to capture only audio. I try to capture. I do some more modifications. It still doesn't work. But on some point of configuration (I could't find exaxtly when) the sound stops during watching. And if I try to capture at that time, it captures OK with audio and video. It doesn't matter whether I use Mpeg 2 or Mpeg 4. Both works. So I think codecs are OK. And it works so (no audio during watching and good audio and video during capture) till I close the application. When I start it again, there is sound when watching and error when clicking capture button. And again I can do some settings modification (random) and after some config steps it start capture but stops audio while watching.

  • Weird Audio Capture

Lately I've had trouble with DV audio capturing from our camcorder. Instead of 48 kHz, the audio will be something like 48,010.4 Hz. This happens most often on long captures (half hour or more). This is a major pain, because the fix is to render the clip on a 48 kHz timeline, then export it.
Any ideas what the problem could be and how to fix it?
    Thanks, gurus.

There have been a number of instances reported here (on the forum) of Sony and Canon cameras with audio drifting.
    The only real solutions are:
    1. Capture in short (5-10 min) segments to minimize the drift effect (Jim's suggestion)
    2. Re-conform the audio after capture (what you are doing)
    3. Try a different camera that works in DVCAM format. DVCAM locks the audio and video together - so no drift.
    Good luck.

  • How to export as a .mp4 file in good quality?

    Hi,
I want to produce a video as a .mp4 file which suits best for the webb.
How to export a project from iMovie as a .mp4 file in a GOOD quality and original size or ratio?
    What to do?
I went to Share-export with Quick Time and changed the file format to MPEG4 but the quality is really bad. The size is small 300x200 something and picture quality is really bad.
How to produce a video easiest in iMovie which suits best for the webb (in HD quality). Not all people have Quick Time so .mov is not suitable. And .m4v files don't play very well on webb. They get stuck.
    What to do?
    Thankful for your help.

Today I started this project, and garageband no longer has "export movie" as a choice,
Are you now using GarageBand 10.0?
    Then import the movie,
Track menu > Show Movie Track
File menu > Movie > Open Movie
    Mix the sound track song
Then use the "File" menu > Movie > Export Audio to Movie.
This will write the audio aa an audio track into the imported movie.

  • Can't export flash cs6 in good quality

Hi, I can't seem to export my animation from flash cs6 in good quality. I tried exporting in avi, but that reduced the quality a lot and when I exported in quicktime, the audio didn't sync well. Not sure what to do, but I really want the video to look like it does when I test it as a swf file. Is it possible it is due to my computer? (I thought my computer is decent enough but perhaps not?) Thanks!

Thanks moccamaximim. I've tried that, but still it's poor quality. I've come across this page http://helpx.adobe.com/flash/kb/tips-reducing-dropped-frames-enhanced.html which is pretty helpful (I realized the problem is frames are being dropped), but I am not sure how to install the custom command the page has which might fix my probem. It looks like:
    To install the custom command:
    Download videoPreferenceCommand.zip.
I am also going to try the trial for flash cs5 to see if that helps at all. Any tips specifically for reducing dropped frames would be great.
    Thanks!

There is no polite way to say this: You need training to
learn how to use Captivate to create learning objects for a LMS. It
doesn't need to be a "long" training period, but you are trying to
shortcut ALL training and begin at the end. I advise you learn to
use Captivate as a generator of learning objects (LO) for the LMS.
You seem to be thinking you can to use it as a "shell" for your
Flash output and it just isn't a Flash plug-in ... it is a
self-standing and sometimes complicated - but usually easy to learn
    - learning tool in its own right (by "easy to learn" I don't mean
    overnight, in any case).
Reasons why include the fact that Flash SWFs are vector based
while Captivate uses bitmapped graphics. Audio is handled entirely
differently on the two. Captivate's communication with the LMS is
not - I think - going to pass on scoring from the movie-in-a-movie
approach you are trying to use. And on and on.
Sorry I don't have more encouraging news for you. Good luck,
    michelle.

  • I use Garageband 09 to record voice overs via podcasting, female narrator noisy, but keep getting an intermittent clicking sound. It's not the metronome. I have a good quality external USB mic plugged in. Any ideas?

I use GarageBand 09 to record voice overs via the Podcasting then Female Narrator Noisy utility. I have a good quality external mic plugged in. I keep getting an intermittent clicking sound on the audio track. It's not the metronome as that is turned off. I have to edit out the clicking after recording. I can see the spikes on the waveline. Any ideas how I can prevent this happening?

Hi again and thanks so much for replying.
The 'mic jack' on the old mic is both wide and large, measuring about an inch and a quarter from the base (where it comes out of the black encasing) to the edge of the tip (sort of cone shaped). As I can't plug this in directly to any port in the back of the Mac, I thought it might be possible to to buy some sort of adapter so that I could plug in the jack at one end, with a USB connector at the other end to go straight into the Mac. But I see from your comment that you are suggesting a smaller jack itself (i.e., large size jack to small size jack and then plug in to the small round port, instead of jack to USB port)?
At the Mac shop I bought a USB adapter to connect up a second monitor (screen). I've just dug out the package and it's called a mini display port to VGA adapter. But back to the mic issue, I don't want to use the old mic really, I'm just trying to eliminate whether or not my usual mic, or its USB cable, is at fault and causing the clicking.
I looked on Amazon for a suitable adapter but there was mention of these little gadgets having a sound card. As the Mac obviously has its own internal sound card, I couldn't see the point of another (exernal) one, unless it was actually required to convert the sound from input to output (playback) or something. One review said sound quality was lost but the person had a problem with his speakers, not a ticking sound while playing back recordings - which is obviously my problem.
I do have a headset that I used to use for Skype. It has a pink and a green jack. I could plug one into the "headphones symbol' port and try recording again with Garageband. At least the jack is the right size. Again, this is just for the purpose of eliminating whether my good mic on a stand with the anti-popping sheild is at fault.
While my Mac does have both inbuilt speakers (I don't need external ones) and an inbuilt microphone, the latter is not of a high enough quality for voice overs, hence buying an external mic etc. But whatever is causing the clicking or ticking is obviously affecting the quality of my recordings. As you can imagine, it is very time-consuming to edit out the ticking spikes and if the noise appears during speech, you can't edit it out at all.
Please keep the suggestions coming. I am determined to get to the bottom of this for my sake and everyone else who is suffering from the same problem!
