Audio CDs skip when played on iPod

when playing audio books on a 20gig iPod I get occasional skipping _ no actual noise but silent spots which break up the speaking _ this will usually happen once or twice per book & usually toward the end of one of the original CDs _ but with a new copy of the Harry Potter "Goblet of Fire" audio CD the skipping is happening on nearly every CD _ tried redoing the CD's & the skipping is happening in different sections _ any suggestions as to what causes the skipping ? _ any suggestions as to how to prevent it ?

It could be a couple of things. Are you running the very latest version of software for your iPod and the latest version of iTunes? You can update these at Apples home page. Also, it may not be a CD/iPod communication issue. It is a problem most likely with the format between the CD and iTunes. You can check this by playing it from iTunes through your home PC. If it still skips there then it has to do with the Book to iTunes. Are you disconnecting your iPod after you eject it in the PC's software? If you disconnect prior it may mess up files,
songs and books that are on the iPod.

That disk is protected with Sony BMG's SunComm Mediamax DRM.

You're going to need to find a way to rip these songs to unprotected audio files.

  • Audio Sync Problem When Playing on iPod

I just got my video iPod and have been encoding some .avi's using Xilisoft. When I play the output as a .mp4 it's fine on my laptop, but when I play them on my iPod there's a distinct audio sync lapse that gets worse as the players goes. Many videos also freeze at 1:51 (even though the time indicator shows the whole file time).
Anyone else having this problem and found any solutions?
    Thanks.

  • MY IPOD SKIPS WHEN PLAYING SONGS

MY IPOD SKIPS WHEN PLAYING SONGS AND THE SOUND GOES IN AND OUT. PLEASE HELP!!!!!

Is the Battery level is low?
The harddisk might be dying, run the disk diagnostic, the procedure is
    http://www.methodshop.com/gadgets/ipodsupport/diagnosticmode/index.shtml
if it is too technical for you, but it does gives you the condition of your harddisk.
What's happening is that some songs are on bad cluster, which need to be moved or reallocate to good cluster.
To fix it in Windows simply run
    chkdsk drive: /R /F
where drive: is the iPod drive ID. D: or E:
in Mac run Diskutilty -> FirstAid -> repair.
    Good luck!

    Greetings,
I've never seen this issue, and I handle many iPads, of all versions. WiFi issues are generally local to the WiFi router - they are not all of the same quality, range, immunity to interference, etc. You have distance, building construction, and the biggie - interference.
At home, I use Apple routers, and have no issues with any of my WiFi enabled devices, computers, mobile devices, etc - even the lowly PeeCees. I have locations where I have Juniper Networks, as well as Aruba, and a few Netgears - all of them work as they should.
The cheaper routers, Linksys, D-Link, Seimens home units, and many other no name devices have caused issues of various kinds, and even connectivity.
I have no idea what Starbucks uses, but I always have a good connection, and I go there nearly every morning and get some work done, as well as play.
You could try changing channels, 2.4 to 5 Gigs, changing locations of the router. I have had to do all of these at one time or another over the many years that I have been a Network Engineer.
    Good Luck - Cheers,
    M.

  • Audio Disruption / Skipping When Multitasking

Hello. I occasionally DJ over the internet. I have been saving my bucks to buy a MacBook Pro and update the 3 year old technology from my Powerbook. I have noticed that when I am playing music locally on my new MBP, the audio occasionally "skips" when I change windows. My PB did not have this issue and I am upset that the newer faster computer is. It seems like it is having a hard time multitasking.
Also, when I run the program "Second Life" my entire system freezes up. I have found forums on the Second Life website talking about Apple having river issues with the graphics card, but that they have yet to address it. Apparently WoW has the same issue. This is SO frustrating. I feel like my PB was the super computer now.

I had FIOS TV installed yesterday and had this exact problem today.  Called tech support and they suggested it was a splitter or loose connection and they set up a service appointment.
After the call I checked all connections and all was fine.  Figuring that all the IP related content  (i.e., multi-room dvr) passes through the router, I did a remote reboot and everything is now fine (no more skipping on HD content).

  • Audio problem with iTunes feed when played on iPod

I'm writing to see if someone can help.
The audio on my podcast works fine at Libsyn (at http://epltalk.libsyn.com). However, the same version that's on iTunes has audio problems when played on an iPod (it plays fine when it's played from the iTunes program on my Mac). During the interview portion of the podcast on my iPod -- downloaded from iTunes (listed under 'EPL Talk')-- you can only hear the answers, but you can't hear the questions (my voice).
Does anyone have any suggestions of what could be wrong? All of my other podcasts I listen to on the same iPod play fine. Very strange.
    Cheers,
    The Gaffer

Try a system reset.  It cures many ills and it's quick, easy and harmless...
Hold down the on/off switch and the Home button simultaneously until the screen blacks out or you see the Apple logo.  Ignore the "Slide to power off" text if it appears.  You will not lose any apps, data, music, movies, settings, etc.

I'm about to go nuts! All of sudden my CD player skips and stutters when playing through ITUNES AND MEDIA PLAYER. I can SOMETIMES import songs, but then the entire system freezes up and crashes. I then have to shutdown and start the whole thing over again. I have UPDATED all of my drivers, reinstalled ITUNES, etc. Can somebody please shed some light as to what might be happening?

Amen! I have worked hard to resolve this issue. I tried EVERYTHING...until I tried the ONE THING that worked. I reinstalled XP. That's all it took. It all works better than ever.

  • Distortion of sound when replaying downloaded music CDs or when transferred to ipod

I have just purchased new HP Pavilion G6 1165SA loaded with Windows 7
I store my CDs on I-tunes and have successfully transferred all previously downloaded CDs.
However, having just downloaded from CD  six new CDs I find that while 2 have downloaded successfully, 4 of the CDs have extreme distortion on play back on la top and also when transferred to ipod. Of those downloaded, No 2 and 6 were successful but the others distorted.
All Cds play without distortion when played without downloading and on other CD players.
    Can you advise?

    Welcome to the Forum, RDBates,
This is not my area of expertise - hopefully someone will offer some "expert" help.
Meanwhile - I will try to help, at least maybe get you pointed in a direction that will help you help yourself.
There are options for listening to the music while it is on the system.  Most of the time it is not useful to change these options because the onboard speakers and the onboard audio cannot deal with the changes.  However, it depends on how the music was recorded, (and how much you know about the individual recordings), your individual hardware and software...
    Things to try...
iTunes is fussy.  Turn off all the "EQ" settings, make a plain recording without any bass, treble, anything, and transfer "cold".  I don't know if this is even possible.  I do not know one would do that.  I do know that when it's not working right, reducing the variables is one of the basic troubleshooting steps in most situations.
    Audio Check:
Make sure your drivers are happy - yes, the system is new, so it's likely all is in order.  Check your audio drivers and make sure they are not showing little errors (yellow bits on the icons).  If you like, right click and check the properties.  If you find anything with a "yellow" warning icon on it, right click on it and update the driver.  If it gets complicated, come back and ask for help.
Control Panel --> Device Manager --> audio
    Bits:
Next is the adjustment for sample rate and bit rate.  It is likely too late to adjust significantly once the music has been downloaded, even assuming you knew the original information and could control it (which is usually not possible given the restrictions of the notebook hardware).  Having said that, it may be possible to make the listening experience better by changing this setting.  Keep it down in the 16 Bit range when/if you rip - unless you have some reason to know otherwise about your equipment.  (Putting it at 24bit makes larger files and won't ordinarily increase the quality - it could harm it.)
Start with "Bit, 48000 Hz (DVD Quality)" and go from there...
Right-Click on the Sound icon (in your Taskbar)  --> Playback devices --> Properties --> Advanced
    Enhancements:
It may not help with distortion, but I've heard that this next setting can help with the awful "highs" and "lows" that folks hear from their systems, that is, first something is too loud and then it's too soft.  If this is not a problem, then don't adjust this setting - it's best to leave all Enhancements "Disabled" unless you need them.
Select and Check "Loudness Equalization" in Enhancements, if needed
Right-Click on the Sound icon --> Properties --> Enhancements
NOTE:  There are a couple of other "Enhancements" - "Virtual Surround" and "Room Correction"... this is not a Bose system and you'll probably be better off just ignoring these.  Just my opinion:  adding variables to a bad situation may not help and could just make the mess worse.
    Options for Ripping Music
If you are using the onboard software (Window Media Player on some systems) for ripping music, then be sure to look at the onboard (system) Help file under (search for) "ripping music".  If you are not using the onboard software, then you might try it as a benchmark.
    Graphics:
    I hope this helps!
    Good Luck!
I'd be interested to know if any of this helped.
    Kudos are earned!

  • Songs skip when playing on itunes

Is anyone else having problems with their songs skipping on itunes (both saved audio files and audio cds) when they play fine on other players like windows media player. My itunes was working fine until about two weeks ago when the program seemed to create havic on my computer. It killed my internet explorer, then itunes and quicktime wouldn't uninstall on my computer. Finally removed programs using windows cleanup utility program. Have installed/ uninstalled program several times since with no luck. The songs keep skipping and slowing down. Even tried updating drivers. Seems to play fine as long as I'm not running anyother program on the computer, but as soon as I run another program or even minimize/ maximize the itunes media player skipping starts (even though only using like 4% computer power). Even tried installing stand alone quicktime player. Nothing works. The apple techs have to be the worst support on the planet. Sent hrs on the phone with them. Please help or let me know if u are having similar problems. Thanks Tom

I've had problems as well. I get "crackling" when I play songs using iTunes. When it happens, it appears that the program is getting bogged down because the mouse doesn't move smoothly across the screen. I've been trying many ways of troubleshooting it including the "waveout" option and keep coming up empty. I've tested identical tracks on Windows Media Player and found them to play perfectly on WMP. What is also baffling is that I can still burn playlists using iTunes and then play the burned CD on another computer or CD player with no sound problems whatsoever. Someone suggested it could be connected to compatibility with a Windows update like Service Pack 2 for WINXP, but I know for a fact the program was fine when SP2 was installed.
Here's a brief history of my troubleshooting:
Everything with my system was working fine.
Computer was getting bogged down playing Sim City, games on pogo.com, and itunes was crackling.
Left for work one day and iTunes was working. Came home the next day and the program dumped EVERYTHING. It did not carry a single song in the library and all 52 playlists were gone even though all files were still sitting in the iTunes folder as they always were. Each playlist xml file I found and opened with Notepad showed only the playlists that come with the program and nothing I had created. I'm assuming this issue occurred because of a corrupted xml library file or there was a conflict with my old 20GB hard drive that used to house the old OS and program files (that hard drive has since been wiped).
Did major utitility maintenance: 3 Spyware programs, 2 antivirus, Norton Utlities Disc Cleanup/defragged/etc and what little spyware found were cookies.
I considered that there may be files corruption, so I tried playing mp3 tracks from the library using Windows Media Player and had no sound problems at all!! Of course, the majority of my library is in apple's aac fomat.
I also decided to see what would happen if I burned a CD through iTunes. The CD works great!
I also get crackling when I play CDs through the CD Rom with iTunes and do not when I use Windows Media Player.
I also considered that it was a specific format causing the issue: mpeg layer 3 or 4. Songs crackle across the board.
Uninstalled iTunes again. Downloaded and installed iTunes 5 today. Songs still crackle!
I also used regedit and ccleaner to clean up the computer as well. Still no luck.

  • Songs skip when playing...

I have windows xp and a new HP laptop. I downloaded the latest itunes and imported songs from a itunes library and some cds. When I play from the library, the songs skip or "hiccup" occasionally which is very annoying! Any suggestions?

Same thing is happening to me. I work at home and listen to iTunes all day. My computer and iTunes have replaced my stereo and I have enjoyed great music using iTunes for the past two years until I upgraded to iTunes 7. I recently upgraded to 7.0.2.16 thinking it was a patch to fix the problem, have done all the suggested Quick Time settings changes and I'm still experiencing the skipping. It's not quite as bad as it was at first, however it's still there, skipping at the beginning at about every third song played. In fact while writing this, the jazz song currently playing started by skipping for a few seconds. Quite annoying! Apple - how can you fix??????
