Audio extension cable for mic-equipped headphones

I bought a pair of B&W P5 headphones from my local Apple store and find that the stock (microphone) cable is very short for use at the desk. I bought a standard 3.5mm extension cable but then discovered it doesn't work. The P5 jack has four contact zones while most cables on the market have only three. My Apple store can't help and I have had no luck finding a suitable cable in London. Does anyone have advice?

Yes, I have a query in but haven't had a specific reply. Their site says cables should be available from third-party suppliers. It's not just B&W, though, I think the same problems apply to all latest-generation headphones equipped with microphones. I'll do some footwork when I have time.

  • Dynex Component Audio/Video cable for iPhone doesn't just play music?

I just purchased Dynex Component Audio/Video cable for iPhone and it plays video, but not music. It only works when I'm using Neflix or the video component of the iPod. How do I get it to just play my music?
If I run the iPod music and open Netflix the music will play, but that is just a roundabout way of getting it to play audio and is silly. How do I get it to just play audio?

don't think so but the component rely on normal analog signals using RCA connectors
you can find tons of 3.5mm minijack connector and 2 rca connectors in the other cables
they are dirt cheap and you can even make them yourself

  • ITrigue L3800 - Where do I get extension cables for the left & right speaker ? HELP !

@ reader : I have already contacted Creative Labs themselves but they unfortunately do not offer any extension cables that run between the left or right speaker and the sub-woofer. And since the connection into the sub is a weird looking '3 pins stacked on eachother' type, I am wondering if anyone has seen extension cables for connections like these.
I am grateful for any help on the issue (adresses, weblinks etc.), because it is really bothering me and the way I want to set up the system in my living room !
    Have a great day !

OMS. If you can still find it. try searching for Opcode OMS (open music system) You need it to run usb midi interfaces in OS9. Good luck, I'd seriously consider getting Logic express.

  • Thunderbolt extension cable for apple display?

I was so excited when I received my Promise Pagasus raid system. But there is a problem:
I have a macbook pro, an Apple thunderbolt display and now I would like to daisy chain the Pegasus between the display and the computer. The problem is that the cable coming from the display is extremely short after the point where it splits up. Unless I put the Pegasus (a large box) right next to my laptop on the desk (no room for that) I cannot daisy chain. A thunderbolt extension cable would do the trick, but they do not exist?
I am sure somebody else has run into this problem, please share your solution.
    Thank you!

    - Just to verify... your MacBook Pro "HAS" Thunderbolt, correct??
    - You already have a "Thunderbolt Display"????   How did you manage that?  I haven't seen any in any store yet or heard of anyone else getting them yet.
    Danielle Smit wrote:
The display has 3 cables going into the mac:
    1. thunderbolt (this is where the data goes through)
    2. usb (provides the usb connection to the hub on the back of display)
    3. power (provides power to computer)
Are you saying there is a "USB" cable/connector coming from the display??  If so, that is NOT a Thunderbolt display.
From everything documented, the Thunderbolt display looks like this:  (the only cables built-in are the normal A/C power cable, then one main cable that has (2) plugs at the end... 1) the magnetic power adapter that connects to laptops... and 2) a Thunderbolt plug.
Is this what your display looks like?
*** OR ****   Does Your display ACTUALLY look like this one (which is the older 24-inch LED Cinema Display):  This one actually had a USB cable/plug as one of the "Built-In" cables.  If this IS what you actually have, it is NOT a Thunderbolt display, although it WILL still work with laptops and the hard drives that DO have Thunderbolt.

  • Recommended extension cable for Apple LED 27" to MacPro 2010?

Okay, from what I have read the cable on the 27" LED display is a bit short. I need to travel at least 5 feet from the desktop to where the computer sits. What do you recommend as an extension cable to help bridge the gap?
A while back they suggested this:
    http://www.cpustuff.com/mini-displayport-male-to-mini-displayport-female-extensi on-cable.html
    Any other choices?

Yup! I'm using 10.6.5 and see no problem with the cables.
I've always assumed that if audio can come through a mDP of the card then it was a physical property of the cables themselves (e.g., appropriate additional connector pins and the connections to them) that determined whether they could carry that audio signal. In other words I don't see what difference the OS version has to do with it. If audio isn't coming out of the mDP from one update to the next then some configuration data (maybe what's in the sound system preference) has changed and audio shouldn't come out even if no extension cables are used.
Also, I don't think any (pkg) installer, including system installers, are capable of updating the firmware in the video card.
One thing I might suggest is resetting the SMC (http://support.apple.com/kb/ht3964). Sometimes that can "shake free" some of these sound "quirks"

  • Minimal extension cable for 30" display and macbook

I want to use the 30" Cinema display with my macbook, and my macbook wants to be in my lap. This is incompatible with the medussa's head of cords coming out of the video cable and the display's power brick. All I need is about 4 more feet of extension for video cable ONLY -- I don't need to connect the firewire and USB cords from the monitor to my macbook. So my question is this: what is the minimal cord I need to extend just the dual-link dvi output a little farther from the power brick? Do I really need to spend $300 for the fancy 10 meter cables I see when I search for "DVI extension cable" ??
    Thoughts or advice, anyone?

You can get a 3' or 6' dual-link DVI cable here for $30 or $40.
    <http://www.gefen.com/kvm/cables/hdmi_dvi.jsp#dvidl>
Unfortunately it is male to male so you will need an adapter such as
    <http://www.worldofcables.com/oscatalog/CablesProduct/ADP-3770.htm>
There may be cheaper ones, but make sure you get dual-link.

  • Optimum extension cabling for 20-inch Cinema

I need to add up to 2 meters distance between my MacPro and my 20 inch cinema display.
Is there an extension cable on the market that combines the video/firewire/USB cables and thereby accomodate the original cable, or
Do I have to extend these cables separately?
I ran across a 3 meter extension for the video cable? Can I just connect this up and expect it to work or will some kind of booster or other active component be required?
Can firewire & USB be extended 2-3 meters without ill effects?
My ideal is a 2 meter extender cable that mates perfectly with the 3 functions in the original cable, and you just connect it up and go ... is this possible?

Thanks. Your reference puts me on the right trail.
The cited reference seems to imply there's a non-active version of the apple combo cable that would work for the 20 inch cinema ... but I'll be damned if I can find it. Hopefully I can get some direct feedback from Geffen about it.
Careful measurements show that I really only need to extend my original combo cable 3 feet. Are you proposing that I just use one of their 'copper' DVI extension cables, a gender adapter and separately buy extensions for the USB and Firewire.

  • Lengthening of an DC Power Extension Cable for my WVC54GC

    Hello,
i need to set up some new ip cams and my busbars are 6 meters away from the installation. i'm asking myself what would be the maximum lengthening of an DC Power Extension Cable i could safely use?
The "longest" cable i could find is this 3M DC Power Extension Cable. Since im not familliar with power supplys and electrical stuff i wonder if its save to put two or three of these extension cables in a row? What do you think?

    Mediengestalter wrote:
Thanks for your reply. We're talking about power cables and not lan cables - right? Because in case of power cables i never heard of "maximum data rates" and "actual data throughput". So hwat do you mean exactly?
Im sorry for that.. I misunderstood the question. What I thought is the LAN cable. Regarding the extention cable though, I still think it's safe to to put two or three extension cables.

  • Using Apple USB Keyboard Extension Cable for Power

I have a USB keyboard extension cable. Part number is 591-0079. Can I use that to extend the power cable for my iPad when it is plugged in? Can I also use it for my iPhone?
I wanted to check first to make sure because it predates the iPad and the iPhone.
    Thanks any advance.

So there won't be any problems transferring power through it? It will charge iPad and iPhone without any trouble?

  • Dock extension cables for Mophie Juice Pak

With all the cool docking devices for iPhone products and the popularity of the Mophie Juice Pak does anyone know where I can find or have a 30pin female to micro USB dock extension cable?  Removing the Mophie Case every night to dock in my Ihome alarm radio does not seem like a recommended solution when there are tons of other cables available :)

Indeed i asked how to verify it...i would not ask if i was sure 100% about juice pack's fault. On the other side dock connector issues is the worse situation i could be in and there wasn't so much option about what eventually my phone, more over my juice pack it's actually faulty

  • Is there a PCMCIA "extension cable" (for WaveLAN Silver)?

    Hello
During the last year I have been using a (Orinico) Lucent WaveLAN Silver PCMCIA wifi card (recognized as Apple Airport) in my PPC G4 "Digital Audio" desktop. I bought it off ebay for less than $20.00 shipped, as an alternative to buying an Airport .11b card for 4x the money. However, because of my thriftiness I have been unable to close the case of my desktop for a year - the WaveLAN card is longer than the original Airport card.
I have decided that I wish to close the door to desktop again and to do so requires a flexible "extension" PCMCIA ribbon or cable, so that I may flip the card 180-degrees back into the case. My searches have resulted in dead ends. Any suggestions?
    Thank you.
P.S. Please note that I do not want a USB wifi dongle/card (e.g., d-link or similar).

    Hi-

  • What are the audio connections/cable for the Express?

I'm thinking about getting an Airport Express to hook up to my stereo. What kind of cabling is required and are there cable alternatives (mini to phone, mini to RCA, to optical, etc.)? Thanks.

Depending on your stereo system, you will need different types of wires, if your stereo has an AUX input (Auxiliary) (Like the red and white plugins on TVs) You will need a Y Audio Cable, which basically has the headphone jack at one end, and the Red and White jacks at the other so all you will have to do is plug the headphone end into your airport express and plug the red/white into your Stereo. If your stereo doesn't have the AUX input, simple figure out what type of input it has and google or search an electric store for a cord that will work just right for you.

  • Replacement ligthning to sony micro usb cable for MDR-1ADAC headphone impossible to find

    Hi there,
The subject speaks for itself, i lost the original cable that connects my iphone 6 lightning port with my Sony MDR-1ADAC headphone. Sony was so kind to design the cable with a weird switch pin on it so its impossible to use any other ones.
Even on the spare parts redirects there is nothing to find. To be clear i mean the digital USB type (lightning to weird sony micro usb)
If someone could tell me where to get this cable?

  • Special extension cable for one front speaker of T6100 System

    Hello,
i`ve bought an T600 5.1 speaker system recently.
Because i would like to use it as a surround system in my room (about 5x3 metres) i mounted it on the wall.
Now i`ve the problem that ALL cables are far to short (also the front speaker cables) to attach them to the subwoofer (without extension i would have to put the subwoofer on the desk to connect one front box correctly).
But the real problem is that one front speaker uses a different cable than the other one`s (a proprietary Creative cable, it has 9 pins and looks like PS/2 but is different) and i don`t know where to get it from because in normal shops you won`t get it.
The other boxes use a cinch cable so i know where to get them from.
I`ve already contacted Creative but they say that they are not able to send me such a cable because it`s not available for them as replacement and also not in their store.
I`ve also seen another thread here like this one but the problem hasn`t been solved there.
It would be very great if you can help me !
    Thank you very much !
    Greetings,
    Thomas

I have been emailing Creative about this issue (as I have been experiencing the same problem) for the last 3 weeks, and each time I got a response I was given a useless non-answer, or they would use it as an opportunity to plug their own products, or I was pointed towards paying for their customer service line. I became brain-meltingly irritated with this and resigned to calling the helpline number, but the telephone number provided on the website is about 400 digits long and looks like it's got an international dialling code in front of it- and it's not one I'm familiar with. I tried omitting individual digits of it, or sets of digits with every combination I could think of, but the phone kept failing to recognise it as a number. Is it that hard to post a normal-looking telephone number on a website so idiots like me don't want to set fire to themselves in fits of angered frustration?
I can't find anything on the internet about this and I'm amazed that more people don't seem to have this problem - the Digital Din connector & lead for the front-right speaker is far too short and after 3 weeks of trying to squeeze an answer out of creative, they finally informed me that they don't stock them and that 'it might be sold in
electrical store but it may or may not work.'
    Cheers.

  • Extension cable for Apple 24" LED Cinema Display

Purchased the newly refreshed Mac Pro (Intel Xeon “Nehalem” processor) and an Apple 24" LED Cinema Display. (The new graphics cards support the mini displayport.) They work well together and I am happy with the results.
There is a snag. The cable on the monitor is too short to reach my computer, which needs to go under the desk. The cable on the display is hard wired. I would prefer not to drill a new hole in the desk if I can avoid it.
The obvious solution would be an extender cable. I find a number of cables that support the displayport standard, but all are M to M. In fact, Belkin notes that their cables are NOT for Apple's mini displayport. The Apple store has nothing on its site, call to the Apple store yielded no solution, and I live four hours from the nearest Apple store. Apple after moving to standard solutions appears to have gone back to a proprietary one again.
I cannot be the only one having this problem. Anybody found a way to extend this cable?

It is around two feet long. I would not have a problem with this if I could extend it or Apple had adopted the standard cable with female connector on the display so I could purchase a longer cable. Apple has a long history of slipping into proprietary solutions that are often good (e.g., magsafe on MacBook) but tend to cramp ones ability to come up with solutions they have not thought of.
There are a growing number of m-m cables that would work from various vendors like Belkin, but I have found no extenders from Apple or any other vendor.
As to the monitor itself, I LOVE it. I am sure there will be a solution eventually. I have the new Mac Pro and monitor on the kitchen counter. Not sure how long my wife's patience will last.
