Audio level difference of 18dB after importing AVCHD file in FCE

After I import an AVCHD clip via Log & Transfer in FCE4 the right audio channel is 18dB louder than the left audio channel. Effectively the sound comes through the right channel.
When I import the same clip in iMovie '08 the channels are equally loud in iMovie.
When I export this clip from iMovie '08 to FCE XML, then import it into FCE, the audio channels are equally loud in FCE!!!
Can anybody explain this?
The preference setting for audio input in FCE is set to Matrix Audio.
Clips are shot with Panasonic HDC-SD1.

Try plain stereo.

  • No audio after importing AVCHD files

I have a Sony HDR-SR10 and when I import the AVCHD files into Premiere Elements 9.0 there is no audio track in the timeline and I can not hear the audio either.  I've been reading all the other suggestions to this problem on the threads but I still have not been able to fix it.  I do not have the trial version and the audio on my computer works fine, in fact when I play the videos in other programs, Picture Motion Browser and HP MediaSmart, I can hear the audio.  I have tried importing both m2ts, mts and mpeg2 files but the audio still doesn't work. I have tried importing the video with both HD 1080i 30 5.1 channel and HD 1080i 30 both with no luck.  Please let me know what else I can try to do in order to get the audio working?

My Project Settings are HDV 1080i 5.1 Channel.
My camera manual indicates the audio compression format is Dolby Digital 2/5.1ch Dolby Digitial 5.1 Creator
I read the Conforming article and I'm not really sure how I know if this process is complete?  Should I get an error message if it doesn't conform?
I read your Audio article yesterday when I was trying to fix this.  I have a brand new computer so the audio drivers are all up to date.  When I go to the ASIO settings it lists my Speakers, RealTek High Definition Audio and I have that checked.  Do I need to check Device 32-bit playback or not?
Another thing I forgot to bring up is that when I put an mp3 that came with Premiere in the timeline I can hear it fine.  This makes me think that it has more to do with the file type that I'm importing rather than any audio settings?

  • Which codec after importing AVCHD files?

I have AVCHD files, saved to card in the camera.
The files have .MTS extension, so I'm using ClipWrap to convert them to files that Final Cut Pro 7 can use.
I need to do basic editing with these video files and export them back out so another editor (on another computer) can do more elaborate editing with them.
To maintain the 1920 x 1080 HD quality of the original files, which codec should I use in ClipWrap?  I tried the default one ("Rewrap - Don't Alter Video Samples") but that file doesn't work well in FCP (it imports, but scrubbing and editing with it is nearly impossible).  Other options listed include Apple Intermediate Codec, Apple Pro Res, Apple Pro Res HQ, Apple Pro Res LT, Apple Pro Res Proxy, and HDV.
And then -- exporting the clips back out for the other editor:  which settings?

Prores 422 should work fine.  If you have the card or have copied the card contents with folder structure intact, you can probably just use log and transfer within fcp instead of clipwrap.  What camera was the material shot on?
If the other editor is using fcp, give him the prores files,.   If not, ask him what editing system he will be using and what kind of files he wants.

  • Importing AVCHD files into FCE without a camera

I have a folder of AVCHD files and am unable to open them via Log and Transfer. I don't have access to the camera, I was given the files already in a folder which I copied to my drive. I believe the folder I have contains the entire AVCHD directory structure. They are not just MTS files.
When I use the import button in Log and Transfer, all the files are grayed out, and when I try to drag any files or folders over to the queue, I get a warning message saying that it contains unsupported media.
I'm guessing this is because it is looking for a camera and there is no camera?
I currently have a workaround where I convert the MTS file using third-party trial software, but before I go and buy another piece of software, is there any way I can import these files from within FCE?

Still grayed out, from the top level on down. I've tried each level. I must not have a complete directory tree then.
    My structure is:
    PRIVATE > AVCHD > AVCHDTN / BDMV / IISVPL > …
Each of the slashes represents a separate folder, and the MTS files are stored in the BDMV > STREAM folder.
I'm told by the camera owner that "PRIVATE" is what the camera automatically names the entire thing and that everything contained within it are the complete contents of the drive. He says that he copies the same thing to a USB drive and it opens fine for him.

  • After Import AVCHD from Sony CX730, IMPOSSIBLE to put the video on the Timeline!!!!!

I have bought Premiere  three days ago. I am working on a AVCHD project, with clips from a Sony FS700 (1080 50p), and clips from a Sony CX730 (1080 25p). I can import the clips but for the CX730 clips it is impossible to put them on the timeline!!!!!
I can put the audio (5-1) on audio 4, but impossible to put the video... Everybody told me that Premiere support all the codec on the same project... It is not true!!!
    Why????

Yes! you are right, every thing work well now!! Thanks a lot!

  • How to Import AVCHD Files?

I recently purchased a Sony HandyCam HDR-SR10 Camera. I love the camera overall but now i have video files that i need to put on my computer. After speaking with Sony Support they said that in order to transfer files i must use the camera as a hard drive basic stuff just click and drag. However i ran into the problem that all of my AVCHD Files were not able to be opened by any program. After reading up and looking around i found that it seems Final Cut Express 4 now has the ability to import AVCHD files DIRECTLY from the camera to Final Cut Express... I really would like to know how to do this in Final Cut Express.... Any Help, Insights, or Tutorials, would be GREATLY appreciated. I really just need to know how to import the files to my computer and be able to edit them.....

  • Imovie freezes osx 10.9.3 & how to import AVCHD files?

    Hi,
    I have 2 questions:
    1. imovie freezes:
Since a few days, imovie freezes when being launched.
I do not know the version I have and I do not think I can find out as ... imovie crashes before it even opens.
I have a macbook pro and got it in May 2014, so the imovie should be not older than whatever version was current back then.
I am not sure when it exactly started crashing, the first time I noticed it was last week when trying to import AVCHD clips from a camera. imovie would not launch so I used quicktime instead.
This brings me to my second question
    2. how can I access AVCHD files to use in imovie?
    Thanks

I do not have a time machine file available.
I believe the issue started after I imported AVCHD files from a camera by using quicktime since imovie did not let me do it.
After that, it has been crashing ever since.
I found the suggestion to delete all quicktime files in library-quicktime except AppleIntermediateCodec.component and AppleMPEG2Codec.component, but those were actually the only 2 files in there.
I also found the suggestion to delete all com.apple.imovie files in library-preferences, but there are no .imovie files in there at all.

For your addressbook, export the files to vCard on the PowerMac, then bring them over to your Mac Pro. For your iPhoto, copy the Users -> yourname -> Pictures folder to your Desktop on the Mac Pro, and open iPhoto on the Mac Pro holding the command and option keys.  Select the library file from that Pictures folder and open it.  It should import all the pictures into iPhoto as part of the rebuild process.  Other PowerPC to Intel migration issues are covered here: https://discussions.apple.com/docs/DOC-2295

  • Can't import AVCHD files since i've updated to  OSX 10.7.

Can't import AVCHD files since i've updated to FCPX 10.03 and OSX 10.7.  Before it worked ok.
When I try to import files from the Camera, or the Memory Stick they end up looking like offline files.  On my other mac (iMac intel core duo 27", with OS 10.6) I can still import these files.

Make sure you don't have Proxy checked in Playback Preferences.

  • Trouble importing AVCHD files to Premiere Pro CC

I'm Trying to import AVCHD files into Premiere Pro CC, once I import the files using Media Browser. I get a warning for "file format not supported",
I hit OK, then it imports the video clips in .MTS file format. Then when I go in and try to drag any of the thumbnails into my timeline I get the following pop-up box:
"Sorry, a serious error has occurred that requires Adobe Premiere Pro to shut down"
then the program quits. I'm using Premiere Pro CC, the AVCHD files are recorded on a Sony FS700. Can anyone help please?

  • Final Cut crashes when importing AVCHD files

Final Cut Pro 6.0.4 crashes when I try to import AVCHD files in the Log and Transfer window (Add clip to queue, etc.). Any help appreciated.

    Found the resolution for my problem;
FCP currently (As of 22/10/08) only supports the bottom data rate at 1080i from AVC-CAM cameras. Anything else will crash the program.
    Also needs 10.5.5 and 6.0.4

  • Does FCP7 directly imports AVCHD files from sony cam?

Does the new FCP 7.0 directly imports AVCHD files from sony cam?
Does it need any conversion? If yes, how is the conversion time, and does the conversion degrades image quality?
    Thanks in advance.
    Desmond

Which sony camera? there are a lot.
Yes, it needs to convert. AVCHD isn't a format that most editing systems deal with natively. You will be converting it to ProRes. The conversion time is dependent on too many factors to give a precise number. Based on computer used, processors, RAM, how much footage, where it will be stored...all of that. The conversion doesn't degrade the image.
Here...I have a workflow tutorial for this: Tapeless Workflow for FCP 7 Tutorial

  • Hey, I have Final Cut Express 4.0.1 and a JVC everio camera, whenever i try to import my files to FCE via "Log and transfer", it just doesn't do anything, as if FCE doesn't know the camera is there, please help !

    Hey,
I have Final Cut Express 4.0.1 and a JVC everio camera.
Whenever i try to import my files to FCE via "Log and transfer", it just doesn't do anything, as if FCE doesn't know the camera is there,
    please help !

FCE 4.0.1 can only capture DV/HDV which is produced by cameras using Mini-DV TAPES and cameras shooting AVCHD which is a high definition format.
If your camera shoots standard definition on Memory Cards, DVDs or Hard Drives it will not work in FCE.
What is your camera's exact model name and number?
