Audio Markers in Waveform Project Disappear

Hi there,
When opening a file in the w.form editor as a project, all is fine w.form editor opens and markers from main project are present... when I save and quit and then open the "w.form file project" from the finder as a separate file it opens fine but the markers are gone!
Not sure whether I have got to change something in prefs or if this is something wrong..... please help...

Stop Press... I have found that if I open the Multitrack project ( which contains the changes made in the editor ) and then open the same file as a project again it opens the editor with the all the previously saved changes and markers are there intact!... is this the workflow that I need to take? ie. open the original multitrack project and then reopen the file in the editor as opposed to opening the saved "waveform stap" from the finder... Sorry if this message is a little confusing.

So, if you open a file in the waveform editor, move your playhead somewhere in the middle of the file, and hit 'M' on the keyboard, you can't move that marker with your mouse? I've encountered unmovable grey markers, but never unmovable green ones.
When you send a clip from Final Cut Pro and edit that clip in the waveform editor, the FCP in and out points also have immovable gray markers. Also, if you record multiple takes by recording in a loop region, all the takes go into a single file. Then when you edit one of the takes, the in and out points of that take are marked with immovable gray markers.
When applications do weird stuff, it's often fun to try that stuff while running the Console application in your Utilities folder to see if the program is writing out error messages. My applications are like little friends, and I like to imagine that Console is the only way they know of calling out for help.

Preferences/Audio Set Recording Delay to 0 <zero>
This should always be set to zero unless a specific set of circumstances exist and you're audio drivers do not report position correctly.
On occasion, usually when importing a Logic 9 project, Logic-X randomly changes this to a negative/positive number. It's actually a bug in Logic, as it should always display the waveform.

For what reasons would you not be able to add chapter markers to a project?

New to this...I will try to give you the detail you need to answer without giving you a long story. I am actually asking this question because I have a video production company working on my wedding video..they are using iDVD to burn but I am not sure if they are using iMovie to compose or some other software. Anyways, this is actually the second time around with my video. They produced it 18 months ago and it looked beautiful! The only problem was that we realized 10 months later that there was an audio problem with the wedding ceremony. In the meantime, the person who originally worked on the project left with the software and the equipment. So, they had to start over and have been working on the redo since February and I think I am the iDVD "test rat". They are telling me now that it is not possible to add chapter markers to the project in iDVD. And this is part of the e-mail they sent me with a supposed explanation:
+I took your corrected DVD to the Apple Store and the training expert explained to me that this program only shows each chapter at a time and the program will automatically go back to the menu after each chapter+.
From what I have been reading on the discussion boards, the only reason that adding chapter markers would not be possible is that they are using iDVD '08 (since they purchased the software in February, I don't think this is possible) or that they did not use the original wedding tape to create the new DVD project..they used the already broken down video segments from the 1st DVD and just put them in menu folders??? Any help or explanation would be GREATLY appreciated! If there is any additional information you might need, I will do my best to provide it.

Welcome to apple discussions. iDvd is consumer authoring software. DVDSP on the other hand is part of FCS 2 / apple's top of the line / professional DVD authoring software. There are some significant (huge) differences between the two apps which I won't go into great details here since I could likely fill a text book on this very subject. Instead you can search this forum/s for a few prior posts as well as apple's knowledge base (KB) for further details on exactly why pros prefer to use Apple's FCS 2 as opposed to the i-Apps.
As much as one may want iDvd to act and perform exactly like Professional Software, It is not. It's intended for consumers (and prosumers).

How to preserve markers from Waveform in Multitrack

Hello,
I'm having a big difficulty with this. We edit our podcasts by first putting marks on all the tracks we record (in waveform editor).
We would the like to import the tracks into Multitrack so that the markers are still visible and we could edit the tracks there. This however does not happen. The marker lines get preserved but not their description.
Another workaround would be to edit directly from the waveform but here I can't seem to find a way to copy and paste. The blade tool does not work in Waveform editor (for good reasons) but the selection tool is also useless as it is impossible to copy a part of a track and paste it into a multitrack.
Could someone prove me wrong ? Would appreciate this tremendously.

No, it's not easy. There is a work around which might help. Having placed and named all your markers in Waveform view open the Markers panel and Merge them into Ranges . Then you can select the Range of audio you want to paste into the Multitrack view and click on the icon in the middle top of the Markers panel ( it will become active when you select a Marker. This will then let you Insert the selected Range into the Multitrack.
However there is a "gotcha" here in that Audition will normally only insert the audio at the beginning of a free track regardless of where the cursor is placed. you can get round this by using the Time Selection Tool in the Multitrack view to select some time in a bit of free space on a selected track. The audio region will be placed at the start of the selected time. If the time selection you made is shorter than the inserted audio you can pull the end out to include all of the region.
It sounds more complicated in writing than it actually is to do. Once you have tried it you will probably find that it is quite a quick procedure.

Lost Audio; Story of First Project

I've enjoyed reading the experiences people have posted about their first project in FCP X, so here's mine... (via Dropbox). I've never used FCP, but have been using iMovie. As a newbie, I found I have three advantages over more experienced users:
- I don't have to unlearn FCP.
- My iMovie experience was a real plus.
- The missing pieces of FCP X that are important to many, do not impact my start at the bottom of the learning curve.
I have run into one serious problem since I wrote my article for our AppleGram: In moving some Events and Projects, using FCP X, I've lost all the audio in both files, except for some audio source files in Events. Any help will be appreciated...

Hey guys, these questions are very helpful, guiding me to better explain what is going on/not going on!
No audio is not playable in clips, either event or project, play or skim.
Yes, I see waveforms both places.
DB level was set to 0 db and still looks correct.
No RED icon for audio.
Yes, this project played perfectly and was exported successfully; trouble began when I moved it.
No, audio is not detached from video.
Yes, see the waveforms fine.
BTW, I'm now on my 2nd install of FCP X; on the first install I NEVER had audio in Events, but it was OK in Projects. After the "move" that started all the trouble, same problem in both Events and Projects.

How to delete unused audio files in a project?

Hi guys,
The question is fairly simple:
How to delete unused audio files in a project?
I can't manage to find the answer in the manual,... all I could find is how to delete audio outside used regions!
But in the projects I use, I have loads of outtakes which I don't use in the project anymore, and now, I would like to delete them of the audio folder to save space on the HD.
Can Logic select automatically the takes in the audio files folder which are not used in the project and delete them??
Because there is hundreds of audio files per project, and +/- 50 projects, I just can't do it manually.

Whoops! Yes, I knew that but a cow flew by... Sorry!
The procedure I follow is to do what I described then Save as Project, creating a project folder. That way only the required audio is saved to the folder and I delete all temporary stuff. However, if you have folders with shared material, it's much harder and would require you to go through all your projects doing Save as Project before you could delete your old working folder.
When doing day to day work, best practice is to create a new folder and only use Save as Project when you're working on stuff. Shared material (eg sample libraries etc) can go elsewhere and you can get Logic to copy those to the project folder automatically.
Otherwise, Shift-Backspace in the Audio window, as you rightly say

Why is the audio on my finalized project different than when I'm editing it?

Why is the audio on my finalized project louder than the when I watch it on the editing screen? The background music doesn't turn down when I watch the final product and I cannot hear the clip, but on the small/edit screen it works perfectly.

Have you already exported it and is it there where it messes up? If you are just clicking the button that makes the video full-screen in iMovie, that's your problem. For some reason, many people have movie glitches when they do that, like the video pausing for no reason, loss of sound, and other glitches. Just export it and it will most likely work.

I have a clip that I really want the footage to be exact with the audio. I put audio markers on the audio downbeats. However, is there a way when I drag the video for it to line up with the audio? I hope my explanation is clear.

Have you found a solution yet? I don’t know if I will be of any help but I was curious and no one else has chimed in yet.
I don’t quite understand all of your statement.
To clarify, you were making SimpleSave backups from Win95 and cannot see them all on the Win7 laptop?
Or
You were copying files over (SimpleSave utility not used) and you cannot see those files on Win7 but you can on the Win95 machine?
Do you have another Win7 machine you could connect the external to, to see if the files are still not showing (one that is not locked for work)?
On the drive that shows full, can you see it in Disk Management showing the correct size of the drive and also another CD drive? Not your real CD/DVD drive, it’s actually a CD emulator that is attached to the HDD for encrypting the backups and all SimpleSave’s have them.
Lastly, did you reformat the SimpleSave drive to Fat32 first?
My understanding is that USB support was quite limited on Win95 machines. Since Win95 is Fat32 and the SimpleSave drive is by default NTFS, I would think it would not work.

Copy clip markers to new project?

I have a project file that was used by the director to make descriptive markers on clips. it references identical media and it was just a basic project file dupe for the director to use. i'd like to copy the markers in his project and add those to my markers on the clips in my master project. copy/paste just makes a subclip icon in my browser and defeats the purpose of it being a marker. is there an effective way to do this?

IPhoto project disappeared on ipad

I created a photo book in iPhoto and was preparing to purchase a printed copy when the app auto-updated to a new version and the project disappeared. There is not even an apparent projects option now, only create and share online journals. Did the ability to create and order photo books go away? Is there some way to restore my project?

Talked with Apple support. This behavior is a known bug that came with Lion. Being patient waiting for an update.

To expand on what ryclark says, you have to set the sample rate on your sound card or audio interface. If you're just using the onboard sound chip, that'll be on the Sound menu on the control panel. For that, go to the Playback Device menu, select your device, then properties, then Advanced. There'll be a drop down menu listing the available sample rates you can choose. You then have to do the same on the Recording Devices tab, at this has to match what you set on playback. Finally, you have to make sure that Audition (Edt/Preferences/Audio Hardware) is set to the same as your sound card.
If you have a specialist sound card, the setting will probably be in software you installed when you hooked that up.
Note that you're unlikely to find ANY sound card or audio interface that can use 20,000Hz as a sample rate though.
My normal advice if you need a low sample rate for some reason is to do your work at one of the standards (say 44,100 or 48,000) then convert the finished product. I know that some things like answering machines want lower sample rates. However, even this method won't give you 20,000. The presets in Audition jump from 16,000 to 22,050 which are standards in the industry.
Perhaps if you can explain why you want to use 20,000 Hz sampling?

You can only sync with one computer. I would backup to one computer and then restore from backup.

Need to Sync multiple images to multiple Audio markers

Hi everyone !
I'm using Premiere Pro CS6 (and CC lately). I have a 30-minute audio clip in my timeline with around 200 Markers applied to it (manually entered by me at certain audio points, every 5-10 seconds or so apart roughly). I've also prepared 200 images for my presentation.
I'm looking for an "automatic" way to drop those 200 images on my timeline and have them "synced" with the 200 audio markers (so each image starts and ends exactly between 2 markers, "snapping" to them, so the images change according to the audio markers - like a "smart" slideshow "synced" to my audio markers).
I know I can do that manually on the timeline one-by-one for each image ("snapping" to its markers), but I was just wondering if I can do it in a "batch way" or something...

Project disappeared from iMovie 10.0.5 after crash

Thanks for reading, your help is greatly appreciated.
After importing my final clip, iMovie crashed. After starting up again, the project was there but only the "skeleton" timeline was visible with a red icon. I waited for a few minutes then decided to force quit. After startup my project was gone.
I have been around many discussions on the same topic but none of the solutions have worked.
I opened the package contents of the iMovie Library file in my Movies folder and successfully found the following files inside the time stamped folder:
- CurrentVersion.imovieevent
- Original Media folder with my mp4 clips
- Render Files folder
- Shared Files folder
- [Project name] folder containing CurrentVersion.imovieevent
- CurrentVersion.flexolibrary
Some system info:
iMovie version 10.0.5
OSX 10.9.4
Again I have been around the discussion forum and none of these threads have helped me at all:
- Project disappeared
- iMovie 10.0.3 project disappears after share

Do you mean you want to extend the duration of a still in the movie and you no longer have the iMovie project on your computer? (If you still have the project it is much better to edit this and re-export).
After importing the finished movie back into a new iMovie project you can split it either side of the part you want to lengthen (see: http://help.apple.com/imovie/mac/10.0/#movf8b8fc9b2) then increase the duration of the split out part.
