Audio Waveforms (On Certain Clips Only) Not Displaying

Long time forum-lurker, first time poster.
Here's the situation: The nighttime assistant editor created a sequence of B-roll clips for an editor. On both the editor's and the assistant editor's computer, the audio waveforms for these clips are not displaying correctly. Specifically, the symptoms (on both computers) are:
- Waveforms do not appear in timeline unless zoomed in to maximum or second-to-maximum zoom. When zoomed out farther than that, the "X"es appear.
- When viewing the clip in the viewer's audio tab, either by double-clicking the sequence clip or match-framing from the sequence, the waveforms do not appear at all until I zoom in to near maximum level. When zooming out after that, the remnants of the zoomed-in waveforms remain on the screen.
- The waveforms of other clips display correctly.
I have tried deleting the waveform cache on both computers, changing the location of the waveform cache and restarting, and deleting the preferences on the editor's computer. I have not tried recreating the sequence from the original clips because the daytime assistant editor has more sequences to create and needs to use her computer.
If anyone can help me, that would be great.
Here are the specs:
Assistant Editor's Computer: eMac running Final Cut Pro 5.0.1 and Mac OS 10.4.something (I haven't gotten a chance to run software update).
Editor's Computer: Dual Processor Power Mac G5 running Final Cut Pro 5.0.4 and Mac OS 10.4.8.
Both computers are sharing the same media which is located on our SAN. The Editor's computer (along with two other G5-based editing systems) is connected via FibreChannel. The Assistant Editor's computer (along with a whole bunch of other computers) is connected through our server, which serves the SAN drives as network volumes. Assistant editors create sequences on the eMac and upload the project file to the server, where they are available for the editors to download.
Power Mac G5 and eMac Mac OS X (10.4) SAN: Xserve RAID, CommandSoft FibreJet (not Xsan). Server: Xserve (Intel model)

Don't know what's going on, but tell us the format of
the audio.
It's the audio track from a video clip. All video on this project is DV NTSC. The audio is 48.0 Khz, 16 bit, 2 mono channels.
Also, try copying
one audio clip to a local drive and see if the
problem persists.
Copied one of the offending clips onto the desktop. Dragged it into the project. Opened it in the viewer and hit the Audio tab. Whaddya know, the waveform appeared.
I cut a chunk of it into the sequence that is full of clips whose waveforms don't work and turned on "show audio waveforms". Waited for a long time and I still just got the Xes unless I zoomed in really close to the new sequence clip.
But then I cut a chunk of the newly copied clip into a brand new sequence, turned on audio waveforms in the timeline, and they showed up.
I don't know if any of this will help to solve my problem, but hopefully it will give someone an idea. I've got an editor who says he's used to editing from waveforms and needs the ability to see them. (Unfortunately, copying media to local drives is not a viable workaround. The media must stay on the SAN.)

Certain things are not displaying of pages

Certain things are not displaying that I know are there. For example, on one of my websites there are 3 banner ads and the bottom of the pages plus there is another line that has ads scrolling across the page, I can see it with IE or Chrome but on Firefox all I see are 2 banner ads and no scrolling ads. This is just one example but it seems 1that certain graphics or banner ads do not display. The site I mentioned is at http://www.ViralTrafficMania.com.
Other people with Firefox say it displays fine so it must be something in my settings but I can't find it, please help.

You don't happen to run any ad blockers or script blockers or privacy extensions, do you? To see whether any of your extensions could be responsible for the blocking, try the site in Firefox's Safe Mode. That's a standard diagnostic tool to bypass interference by extensions (and some custom settings). More info: [[Troubleshoot Firefox issues using Safe Mode]].
You can restart Firefox in Safe Mode using
Help > Restart with Add-ons Disabled
In the dialog, click "Start in Safe Mode" (''not'' Reset)
Any difference?

Duplicate Project + Used Clips Only not working as expected.

I am revisiting this once again and have had some good information on the matter, but I am not getting the results I think I should.

I want to archive ONLY the project and clips used for a project.
If I export my project using the current settings (ProRes) then shouldn't the Duplicate Project and Used Clips only feature give me a a backup that is roughly the same size as my exported Quicktime?
Currewntly when I use any of the Duplicate operations other than the 1st, all media is duplicated, not just what is needed.
Has anyone had success with just getting what you need for the project?
The reason why I don't want to archive all of the media outside the project is due to hard drive space. I have the camera raws backed up already. I just want to be able to open the project again if needed and only the project with necessary media.

When you say " I also changed the default start to 7:30 and end 4:30", are you talking about the
project information in the project tab? You're supposed to be able to specify only one of the parameters (start date or finish date) depending if you're back-planning or not.
Check if the option "ignore resource calendar" on the task if checked.
Also try to press F9.
Are the task manually scheduled? Do you have constraints on the tasks?
Maybe share a screenshot so it'll be easier to help you.

Urls are not coming in as links in sent emails; certain websites are not displaying correctly

When I send an email with a url/link, it does not come in to the recipient as a link.
Went to a website (bjs.com), which was not displaying images and had no functionality.
These things worked in IE8 so it's a Firefox problem.

That is probably Hotspot Shield.
Do a malware check with some malware scanning programs on the Windows computer. 
Please scan with all programs because each program detects different malware. 
All these programs have free versions.
Make sure that you update each program to get the latest version of their databases before doing a scan.

SWFs containing 3d movie clips do not display correctly

I'm having difficulty using a swf with a 3d movie clip, it's displaying much larger in captivate than it does in any other context. Are there known issues with 3d clips in captivate?

No audio Playback on certain clips?...

The last two clips of people talking of my FCP video do not playback. I had voices talking over music and the music still plays back in these parts but not the other audio. Audio plays back in the viewer. I have tried deleting the clip and re-dragging it into the timeline , I have also tried different clips ...none work.

I actually figured it out for anyone having a similar issue.....i think!
If you look at the item properties and it says MONO instead of RIGHT LEFT ...you need to double click on the audio clip and make sure both LEVEL and PAN are set at "0"

Clip appearance not displaying in event browser in filmstrip view

Some of the clips in the event browser don't display a visual in the filmstrip view until I skim over it. Any clue?

Here is a solution to the problem:
In the Finder -> Go -> Go to Folder,
enter /Users/Your user name//Movies/iMovie Library.imovielibrary/Name of Event/
(Name of Event is exactly as it appears in the Event Browser)
Select Go
This takes you to the folder in iMovie Library for that event, and you will see the contents of that folder as several folders and perhaps a file. One of the folders is Original Media. Open that folder and you will see individual files of the individual clips contained in that Event. Delete the file of choice in the usual OS X way. iI will then appear in the Trash folder. Empty the trash and it is gone.

Why is my mac missing certain fonts and not displaying some pictures, is just a little blue box with a question mark in it?

When I open documents it always comes up with warnings that I am missing fonts and some cannot be replaced.
Also now I am noticing that some pictures are now missing and are replaced by a small blue box with a question mark in the middle. Can anyone
tell me what is going on and how I can fix this?

Clips are not displaying thumbnails.

I would say I am zoomed in sufficiantly to be able to reveal some thumbnails. I am working Premiere CC. It is up to date. I have "Video Head Thumbnails" selected. This is a problem that shows up in all of my projects.
This is a ProRes 422 Video sequence, but the codec doesn't seem to make a difference in seeing any thumbnails. I don't have any problems with playback or whatnot, just with thumbnails.
Any solutions or is this just a bug?

Click the wrench icon in the Timeline and select Show Video Thumbnails.

Waveforms on audio tracks - sometimes there are, sometimes not...

Can anyone tell me why Soundtrack Pro displays the audio waveforms on some track but not others? Or sometimes on none at all?
I can't find anything that turns the display on and off, and it seems quite arbitrary. Also, when Soundtrack chooses not to display them, they don't turn up in the file editor either and I can't fix pops and clicks. Any thoughts?

Maybe this is a trivial answer, but it's a thought:
It will take some time for STP to render the waveforms, especially if the masterclips referred to are very long. I have a project with a 40 minute clip and STP and it took STP about 2-3 minutes to render the waveforms the first time i opened it, provided I didn't do anything else at the same time. And it renders kind of arbitrary, just as you say.

Audio waveform does not draw

Since upgrading to CC 2014 we have been experiencing a few issues. One such issue is audio waveforms not drawing. We have this issue on 5 different machines.
When opening a project the audio waveforms of 1 or more clips does not draw. This seems to be random. An example: I finish editing for the day. Save the project. Shut down the mac. Come in the next day, turn on Mac, launch PP, open project. At this point some audio waveforms may draw, some may not.
I've done a bit of exploration and it seems that PP is having trouble reading the .pek files. If I shut down and delete the .pek files and then relaunch – PP regenerates the .pek files and the audio waveform draws again.
Anyone else having this issue?

I don't know if it is related but I know there is an issue with CC 2014 resetting the preview file location to default on some projects.

Audio Waveforms Not Showing In Timeline - Bug Report

When I send P2 Footage from Prelude to PP, the audio waveforms on the timeline do not show, even though the settings are correct. I have to close PP and then reopen it and then they show. It is some sort of a bug. I'm on Mac OS 10.9, latest version, fast computer. Anyone else having this issue?

There are three kind of audio tracks, stereo, mono and 5.1. Mono can only be placed in a mono track, stereo only in a stereo track and 5.1 only in a 5.1 track. By default a new sequence has three stereo tracks, so when you enter mono material, a new mono track is created in track 4.
In your case you probably have 6 audio tracks of one kind and the 'lost' one is another kind of track and that is the reason it ends up in track 7. You can of course delete empty audio tracks, which will cause track 7 to move up.

CC 2014 not displaying waveforms on timeline or viewer

Having reluctantly upgraded to PP CC 2014 I am noticing that the waveforms of .R3D files do not display properly in the timeline or the viewer. Sometimes the waveforms are displayed correctly, sometimes not. There is inconsistency even within the same timeline.
Is there a new setting that needs to be enabled here or is this another one of those dreadful Adobe bugs we're getting so used to?

Some images not displaying in some browsers

Hi,
I'm creating a newsletter in Dreamweaver using the design view.
The finished thing works perfectly in Internet Explorer but when I view it in Firefox or Safari certain images are not displaying. There's no red cross or sign at all of why they're missing. They do however show as attachments at the bottom of the email.
The code appears to be fine and all the images were uploaded in the same way, so can't think why some won't appear while others will. The only thing the missing images have in common is that they're all left aligned so the text wraps around them.
I've been trying to fix this for ages and tearing my hair out. Any help greatly appreciated!!

Aperture Not Displaying Altitude Metadata from Camera

My camera records GPS data including Lat, Long and Altitude. When I import my images into Aperture 3.5.1, the metadata shows the Lat and Long information but Altitude shows up as 0m.
I know for sure that my camera is recording the altitude information because when I use the OEM software supplied with the camera I can see the altitude data in the JPEG file.
It also appears that when I import photos into Aperture with GPS data it seems to strip the altitude metadata from the file.
I saw a similar question asked previously: Is this a bug in Aperture that it will not read/accept Altitude metadata from certain cameras?

Is the altitude stired in the EXIF tags?
When I import image files with EXIF tags for GPS, I will see in Aperture all tags, that are also visible in Preview. For example, in Preview:
And after importing into Aperture:
I have never seen Aperture stripping EXIF data from the original image files, only not displaying EXIF tags, that are camera specific. But the EXIF tag "Altitude" is always displayed correctly in my library, if it is set. I suspect, that your camera is using a different tag, so the camera software understands it. So, as a test, check, if Preview can show this tag.
