Authentication Failed - Control or Observe

First things first... this is what I have:
ARD Admin: 17" MacBook Pro running 10.5.1 and ARD 3.2
Want to control: Mirror Door PowerMac G4 with 10.4.11 and ARD client version 3.2.1
I had the same problem prior to updates and upgrading my OS to 10.5. I can manage this computer, and share my screen with it. But I cannot observe or control it. When I try this, I receive Authentication Failed.
I have tried re-installing the client via kickstart on the client machine. I have uninstalled all privs and settings via kickstart. I have also reset all these settings and restarted the menu, console, and agent.
On my MBP I have removed the computer and re-added it many times. I have checked all settings on the client... flushed dns cache... fixed any network problems... verified that firewall is not turned on. I even cleaned all caches and ran maintenance on it.
All of this I have done, and I keep receiving the same error message. Does anyone have any other ideas... I guess I could re-install the system, but I'd rather not have to do that.
Thanks,
Ken

I lost access to two of my clients as well. Could see them in scanner and they even showed up as available, light blue, but I could not control or observe. So the following fixed the problem for me.
Open terminal:
ssh shortusername@ipaddress for specific client
rm -rf /var/db/RemoteManagement
rm /Library/Preferences/com.apple.RemoteDesktop.plist
rm ~/Library/Preferences/com.apple.RemoteDesktop.plist
rm -r /Library/Application\ Support/Apple/Remote\ Desktop/
rm -r ~/Library/Application\ Support/Remote\ Desktop/
Then create special ARD client install package with ARD admin app with all the settings configured. I don’t know how to install and run the package via ssh so I just emailed it to the client and had them open the package and run the install.
It worked for me, I now have access to the clients that I lost access to (verify failed)

I have a strange problem with which I'm hoping someone can assist me.
I have 8 clients running Leopard. These clients are all at different locations behind routers that use NAT to forward incoming traffic on the public static IP address to the private static IP of the client. Remote administration of these clients works flawlessly.
I also have 2 clients at my location, both running Tiger. These are both on the local subnet, and again, the router's NAT feature forwards incoming traffic to their private static IP's. Both clients are configured with the same local admin account name and password.
Inside the local subnet, I can Remote Manage both local clients with no problems. However, I have a user in another state that needs to Remote Manage these clients, and for some reason, only one of the two works. When she tries to Remote Manage the client in question, she gets "Authentication failed to "adsl-99-*-***-**.dsl.sfldmi.sbcglobal.net" (I put in the *'s).
She has deleted the offending client from her Master List and re-entered it twice. When she enters the IP, username and password, ARD verifies before adding to the list, which it does without error. But when she tries to Observe or Control, she gets the Authentication error. She is running ARD 2 on Tiger. She is able to Remote Manage all 8 of the clients at our various locations and 1 of the 2 clients at my location, but not the one in question.
    I'm stumped! Any thoughts?

You've confirmed that the ports are open and pass through the router correctly?
If so, are the versions of ARD client the same on both systems at your location? Is she able to do other functions on the problem system; get reports, etc.?
According to the router documentation, any and all traffic directed at the public IP passes through, regardless of port numbers. I am assuming this is true, as I have not set up any specific port forwarding, and one of the two clients does work properly. We also have other systems here that use specific ports for data transfer, and I've not had to open those ports in the router for those systems either.
Also, the problem system has worked well for the last 4 or 5 years before our IP addresses changed, with the same router. And yes, she is using the new IP
Both clients are running ARD client 2.2. The problem system is running Panther 10.3.9, not Tiger as previously stated. That seems to be the only difference. The admin computer is running ARD admin 2.2 and Tiger 10.4.11.
I had her try a Copy Items... and she was told the task would fail: "This task will fail. This task is not supported on "adsl-99-*-***-**.dsl.sfldmi.sbcglobal.net"
Also had her try to send a Restart... again, this task will fail.
Thanks a bunch for taking the time to help me out with this. Hopefully I'm providing good info for you.

  • Authentication Failed - newbie

I am managing 4 other systems, which all have the same admin user name and password. 2 of the systems I cannot Observe/Control/Curtain. I can chat, message, install etc... Each time I double click on them I get 'Authentication Failed to "X Machine"'. I used to have access to all 4 workstations 2 weeks ago. Why did I loose access to these 2 machines? Nothing has been done to these systems to warrant this sudden loss of access. Any ideas?
    Sly
    Dual 2GHz Power PC G5   Mac OS X (10.4.8)

The two most likely cases are:
    1) Someone disabled the control/observe priveleges in the control panel.
    2) Port 5900 is being blocked (probably by the software firewall).

  • 802.1x port authentication failing after getting a access-accept packet

    Hi all,
Im not 100% sure what the hell is going on here.
Any idea's or help will be appreciated.
    Heres the topology.

    1x Windows 7 x64

The switch that is doing the authentication is the 3750X. Here is the IOS version.
Switch Ports Model              SW Version            SW Image
    *    1 54    WS-C3750X-48       15.2(1)E              C3750E-UNIVERSALK9-M
A wireshark trace on the NPS server shows that the packets are arriving and being sent back
Wireshark on a mirror of the trunk port connecting the 6513. It also shows packets being sent and arriving. access-accept packets are being recieved.
As you can see in the debug output, the switch is getting a access-accept, then it is stating a AAA failure.
here is a debug output as you plug in the laptop.

  • Authentication Failed when trying to use Save As in the Firefox

    Hi,
user tries to save concurrent request output (.txt) and gets 'Authentication Failed.' message in the file created.
Same thing if he wants to see page source...
I ran through firefox about:config, and found nothing special.
    browser.cache.disk_cache_ssl is disabled...
    Any ideas?
    Thanks!
    Kind regards,
    Kris

    Hi Carlo,
thanks, tried all possible combinations of that property, but it did't work as hoped...
When a page is loaded, it is cached so it doesn't need to be downloaded to be redisplayed. If the page changes after a previous visit, you may want to redownload it anyway to get the updated page. This preference controls how often to check for a newer version of a cached page.
0-Check for a new version of a page once per session (a session starts when the first application window opens and ends when the last application window closes).
1-Check for a new version every time a page is loaded.
2-Never check for a new version - always load the page from cache.
3-Check for a new version when the page is out of date. (Default)
Found one workaround, but not totally ok:
Right mouse click -> Select All
Right mouse click -> View Selection Source
    File -> Save
But there are HTML tags in saved file, and users don't want to edit the file...
    Regards,
    Kris

  • Authentication failed: invalid user/password.

After uploading a new RPD in obiee( 11.1.1.5), my obiee has started failing with following error in nqserver.log. I have verified that BISystemUser password is the same in console and EM. I have also verified that I am entering correct RPD password while uploading it through EM. What else may be wrong ?

as for some reasons the user account got locked.I guess, You should ask your AD Team to check in the AD
Event Logs why did the user account got locked.
Under Even Viewers, You can find it out

  • 802.1X Authentication failed without 802.1X authentication enabled

    Hi,
we are using 2 WISMs, with version 4.2.207 and a WCS to control them.
It seemed to work fine for about 2 weeks, and now we detected the following problem in some users. They were connected to the wireless without problems, and then they lost the connection. For authentication we use WPA2, we also use mac-filter.
When they lost the connection we can see the following error:
    Message:
Client 'mac address' which was associated with AP 'mac address', interface '1' is excluded. The reason code is '4(802.1X Authentication failed 3 times.)'.
    Message:
Client 'mac' which was associated with AP 'mac', interface '0' is excluded. The reason code is '4(802.1X Authentication failed 3 times.)'.
I also attach an output of the troubleshoot mac address...
Can some help me with this?
    Thank you.

It appears to me that there must be some kind password problem, I can login from the 5.2 console or switch user ids from the console so I know the user and Directory Server are OK.
Can anyone help? Ive been pounding on this for a few days and it is getting frustrating.
    Thanks in advance
    Jim

Here it is along with some bat files to make and run. I can't understand why it does not work. It is mostly a slightly modified example from Sun. I'm using Sun code, a Sun Directory Server and a Sun's JndiLoginModule so why the damn thing does not work is a mystery. I have looked EVERYWHERE for a sample JAAS/LDAP Authenicate code and can't find a thing. Makes me think there isn't any and JAAS is not the way to go. I and going to try with a different DS maybe open LDP or active Directory and if that doesn't work I'll forget JAAS and use JNDI instead.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
    thanks in advance
    jim

  • Rights Authentication Failed, Ticket expired

    Hello,
I'm getting an error on remote control with rights to an pc.
ZCM 10.3 and Windows XP SP3.
    The error is:
Rights Authentication Failed. The ticket has expired. if the connection was initiated from the managed device, close the Remote Management Listener, launch it again and retry. If this does not resolve the problem, contact Novell Technical Services.
Anyone who knows a fix for this?

Note: It may take over-night for the issues to fix themselves.
There is a Time Sync Status marker stored in the DB that is only started
    over-night.
Once things are in Sync Today, you may want to try Remote Controlling
from both of your servers. One may work while the other does not, until
the flag is updated in the DB.

  • NetworkManager lead to WPA association/authentication failed

    Hey, guys.
I cann't connect to WIFI using NetworkManager in Gnome 3 since a few days ago. Neither can I in the terminal using netctl.
And journalctl -xe says 'WPA association/authentication failed'.
I searched and found some people met the same problem, but I couldn't find a solution that worked for me.
Accidentally, I fount that after stoping NetworkManager (systemctl stop NetworkManager), I could connect to WIFI using netctl.
I found this solution when I did a first fresh installation of Arch on my office computer (I first met the problem on my personal computer).
So, it's the problem of NetworkManager? But it seems there isn't any people reporting this problem.
I wonder why does this problem arise and how could I get rid of it?
And have you met the same problem with NetworkManager?

I have just recently switched away from NetworkManager in my GNOME setup and gone back to dhcpcd.service (it seems more in keeping with the Arch Way).
I had no problems with NetworkManager, but as JWR says you have to make sure all other network-related services are `disable`d (as well as `stop`ped)...

  • "User authentication failed" when connecting with Visual Administrator

    Hello,
I am having trouble making a connection to my local J2EE Engine using the Visual Administrator (VA).
I open the VA interface and create a new connection. The default User Name is "Administrator". I put in "localhost" for host, "50004" for port and leave the Transport Layer selection to "Default".
When I try to connect this way I get the following message:
    User authentication failed
Next I went into Start|Settings|Control Panel|Users and Passwords  and saw that there were several ids created by the Developer Workplace (DW) installation. The ids that I see are: j2eadm,sapadmin,sapinstall and SAPServiceJ2E
I checked all of them to see what groups they're members of and they're all at least members of "Administrators" group.
There are also 3 new groups that must have been created by the DW installation: SAP_J2E_GlobalAdmin, SAP_J2E_LocalAdmin and SAP_LocalAdmin.
The j2eadm id belonged to all 3 new sap groups so I changed its password to something I'd remember and then changed the connection to use that login.
When I tried to connect thru VA using this id and the new password I still get the "User authentication failed" error message.
Can anyone please tell me what I'm doing wrong?
Thanks in advance for any help.
    David.

    Hi,
During the installation the SAPINST asks for a Administrator  Password.. This password is very important.
We had kept same passwords for all userids to start with.
This helped reduce lot of confusion.
Warning: if you enter the wrong password 5 times, the userid 'Administrator' gets locked.
However there is an Emergency password recovery procedures.
    Try this link
    http://help.sap.com/saphelp_erp2004/helpdata/en/3a/4a0640d7b28f5ce10000000a155106/frameset.htm
    Hope that helps
    Regards,
    Siddhesh
