Authentication prompt issue when opening an office file in a document library with read permission for domain users

An user as part of the domain users tries to open an office file from a document library but he got an authentication prompt asking him to authenticate. Domain users has only access to this library and not to the whole site. This uses to work in SharePoint
2007 without any problem but not in SharePoint 2013, we didn't have a workflow on SP2007.
Domain users has read access to only this document library in the site, but he shouldn't get an authentication prompt since he is part of the domain users and he is not trying to modify the document, he can open the document but gets two prompts, he can't
also see the list using explorer view since nothings appears using the explorer view.
Now, when opening the file, we can see..Updating Workflow Status, but we don't have any workflow working on this site or library, event any feature related to workflow.
If we go to the event viewer in the server, we find this information,
I also checked this thread but I couldn't find this scenario.
https://social.technet.microsoft.com/Forums/sharepoint/en-US/91bc770b-bb70-4885-a4ad-a243edb88753/event-id-8026-workflow-soap-getworkflowdataforitem-failed-doc-library-no-workflow?forum=sharepointgeneralprevious
I also created another list with the same permissions and using other office files but got the same behavior.
Now, we have migrated this site from SP2007 to SP2013.
Any ideas?

OK, I am going to throw out a lot of ideas here so hopefully they get you closer to a diagnosis. Hang on :)
Does it happen to work for some users but not others? If so, try logging in on the "good" computer with the "bad" username. This will tell you if the problem is related to the end-user's system. Also, once the user downloads a document
successfully can they open and work on it in Word? Also, does the document library have any custom content types associated with it or does it just use 'Document'?
I notice that there are other folks on the web that have run into this same problem and the similarity seems to be that they are either on SharePoint 2007 or have upgraded from 2007. Did this doc library start out as a 2007 library?
What you might want to do is this: Make a site collection from scratch in 2013 (or find one that you know was created in 2013). Choose team site (or whatever you want) for the root web and set up the security the same way you have it on the malfunctioning
library. Now, use windows explorer to copy and paste some of the documents to the new location. Be sure you recreate any needed content types. Now test it from the troubled user's computer.
I'm thinking there may be something that is different about the library since it was migrated through various versions and updates since 2007. I've sometimes found that there can be problems (especially with user profiles but that's a different story) with
things that go through this evolution.

  • Having trouble opening Crystal Report files from a document library

I am trying to open Crystal Report .rpt files from a document library in either the native, client Crystal Reports software or in Crystal Reports Viewer. When I add the Crystal Report files to a document library and attempt to open them SharePoint displays
a prompt asking me to save the file locally instead of opening the file. I have done a lot of research online and found several sites discussing similar scenarios, however, I have not been able to get these solutions to work. Here is a short list of sites
I have referenced for possible solutions:

Here are the steps I have done to try to get the .rpt files to open:
Added the Crystal Report extension .rpt as a MIME type
Installed the Visual Studio 2012 Crystal Reports Viewer toolbar
Installed the 64-bit Crystal Reports runtime
I have also created a solution file based off the Code Project site which partially works, but not quite right. In this project I have created a document library called "Crystal Reports rpt Files" and deployed the solution file to a site. When
I open the Web Part Maintenance Toolbar I can see the selected .rpt file in the drop-down, but no Crystal Report file is displayed on the page itself.
I am not sure what I am doing wrong. Does anyone have experience working with Crystal Reports and SharePoint 2013 (or earlier versions) that could lend some advice?
    Thank you,

  • Paragraph style issue when opening imdl (CS5) file in CS4

Sending a CS5 file to a printer using CS4.  When they open the imdl file in CS4, it changes the paragraph style in the pull quotes. The initial character, whether a letter or a quote, appears tiny.  It looks like a paragraph style issue.  The 'quote' paragraph style in CS4 has a drop cap set on it.
Has anyone else had this problem or have a suggested fix? Certainly, we can check our files in CS4 before sending each time, but what a pain!

IDML is meant as an interchange format, and is far from "the same file but in another version".
If your printer wants a CS4 file, send them a CS4 file. Better yet, ask them why you have to send them native files anyway and what's their problem with a PDF?

  • Unusual behavior when trying to open a .msg file within a document library

We are running SP 2010 service pack 2
We had a user who contacted us saying they were not able to open .msg files in their doc library. After playing with things a bit, two work around were found:
    * if the item is checked out, then clicking on it opens the file in outlook
    * if the doc library view is changed to explorer view, and the file is double clicked, the file opens in outlook.
Is anyone aware of a reason why these extra steps are necessary?
I don't see anything in the background info as to whether this is the case for all our users or only for some.

The user is prompted with a File Save dialog to provide a place for the file to be saved.

  • Issue with site template that contains a document library with a lookup column to another list

I have a document library called Proposals with a lookup column in the same site called Document Categories (multiple values allowed).  It points to a list called document categories.  I have several sample documents in the Proposal Library that
contain valid document categories.  When I save the site as a template and instantiate it, everything is fine.  However, when I remove the sample documents from the Proposal library and rebuild the site template, I can't get the  template to
create another site.  I get an error Unable To Open Lookup List.
I don't understand why I can instantiate a site from the template when there's sample data, but not when the document library containing the lookup column is empty.
Does SharePoint 2010 site template support lookup columns?
Why would it make a difference if the library is empty?
    Thanks

    Hi,
According to your description, my understanding is that the error occurred when you created a site from the template with no files in the document library.
I tested the same scenario per your post, and I can create a site from the template with no files in the document library with no errors.
To solve this issue, I recommend to verify the things below:
Did you save the site as a template with Include Content checked? If yes, I recommend to test if it works when saving the site as a template with Include Content unchecked.
Test the same scenario with a new site to narrow the issue scope.
I also recommend to check the event log and ULS log to see if anything unexpected occurred.
To check event log, click the Start button and type “Event Viewer” in the Search box.
For SharePoint 2010, by default, ULS log is at C:\Program Files\Common Files\Microsoft Shared\Web Server Extensions\14\LOGS.
You can check the ULS log by the methods here:

  • Office 2013 applications cannot be made to show the "Documents" folder when opening and saving files

(Windows Server 2012R2 and Windows 8.1 PRO)
We are redirecting the user's "Documents" folder to the network (using Folder Redirection). The OS hides this fact however, and most applications simply see the "Documents" folder when opening or saving files, including Office 2003.
Office 2013 however displays the actual path, which in this case is:
    \\sever1\redirect$\username\documents
Even if you forcibly set the "Default local file location:"  in the Options Save area to the 'Documents' folder in, say, Word, Word immediately converts the local path to the network path.
Is there anyway to get Office 2013 to follow the virtual path? All of other apps follow it and expose the users only to "Documents".
    Thank you so much.
    Dana

There's nothing in my FAQ concerning screen savers, so I'm unsure why you decided to take that approach. From your description, it looks like you only tried a few of the suggestions before throwing in the towel. That's fine, it's your call.
I don't have the problems you described with 10.4.7. Usually when folks have problems after an update, these are caused by either installing an update on an already-corrutped system or they've installed third-party applications or hardware that have been rendered incompatible by the update.
Before installing software updates, you may wish to consider the advice in my "Installing Software Updates" FAQ. Taking the steps therein before installing an update often helps avert problems and gives you a fallback position in case trouble arises.
    Good luck!

    Wow. Okay...
I'll let the real veterans in this forum tackle your issues one after the other. But, I can tell you, all will be well.

To be completely honest, FCPX is a RAM hog. It just is. But, RAM is relatively cheap, and the pay-off is good.
4GB is right on the edge, IMHO. 16G is ideal.
I wish you luck, hang in there, and standby for more help.

We all can learn from this. Whenever you get stuck in a customer-service situation that goes nowhere, as soon as you become aware of the futility, get the name and employee ID of the person, then say, "I don't mean to be rude, I think we're both wasting our time. Perhaps you weren't trained for this issue, or perhaps your system isn't displaying the correct information. It doesn't matter, because I'm not getting proper customer support this way. Please ESCALATE this to your highest-level manager IMMEDIATELY. If that person isn't availabe, ESCALATE me to that person's highest-level manager. If you haven't been given the proper training, you can use this to inform your manager that you need the training. Thanks for trying to help. I appreciate it. I have copied and saved this chat session. NOW PLEASE ESCALATE THIS CASE AS I HAVE REQUESTED ABOVE. I'm waiting now... "
The point is that you're a customer, and the company needs customers, so the individual who's failing to deliver good service needs to be identified so they can be properly trained, and so that problems in the system can also be identified, but more important is that you get the service you're entitled to.
If you search the forum for similar questions, you'll see the kind of information that the volunteer users like yourself on the forum need to know about your system and files involved, so they can help you better.
    Good luck.

    Hi
I'm encountering a problem when opening a EPS file in Illustrator for editing
when I open the file and ungroup the object the stokes are all messed up and broken.
As an example the light colour in the image below is what one of my lines looks like when imported
if anyone knows how I might be able to stop this from happening when I open the file I would be very gratefull
    thanks

Depending on where the file originated, this could be perfectly normal. Might be expanded strokes that break apart or something similar... anyway, impossible to know without more details or the file itself...

  • Sorry, something went wrong - Open Office File from Search Results Page with Office Web Apps

    Hi,
I'm getting "Sorry, something went wrong" error when I'm trying to open any office document from inside Search Results Page with Office Web Apps, the same error is appearing in the document preview as well.
The error in SharePoint logs says that the file cannot be found.
Please note that this error is coming only when the "Filename" of the document is not written in English (in my case its written with Arabic characters).
If I try to open it from the document library, its opening properly with no errors.
    The only difference between two URLs (document URL in Search Results and in Document Library) is the value for "sourcedoc" attribute;
In the case of Search Results page, the filename in "sourcedoc" attribute is kept as is with Arabic characters.
While in the Document Library, the filename in "sourcedoc" attribute is converted into different characters (something like: "B9%D9%85%D9%8").
Anybody have an idea on how to overcome this issue, implement a workaround or modify the "sourcedoc" behavior?
    Thanks in Advance.
    Hamza AlSughier

    Dear Wendy,
Thanks for your efforts, I already tried your last suggestion before, but this didn't solve my problem.
Actually my end users are accessing this portal using ADFS and HTTPS.
Finally I got this solved, I have done below to get my overall solution working perfectly:
    - First I have configured Windows Authentication and ADFS Authentication on the same zone which is the default zone.
    - The issue when opening office documents with Arabic file name has disappeared as a result of first change.
    - Then I have faced an issue where we are not able to crawl content under Default zone, however we have to do so, after too many efforts, I found that its related to the Load-balancer/proxy, I have made the crawler server
    to crawl himself (http://CrawlServerName:PortNumber).
    - Also a change on Alternate Access Mapping was needed, I have set one of the extended zones (which is running Windows Authentication only) as Internal URL for the Default Zone, and this is was the URL I used for Crawling.
I have configured Server Name Mappings to make sure we got proper URLs in Search Results.
    - Then we faced another issue, which is Authentication selection on login page (How to bypass this page, and authenticate using ADFS auto), I used this solution (Set Custom Sign In Page):
    http://0ut0ftheb0x.wordpress.com/2014/01/04/skip-the-authentication-selection-page-at-_logindefault-aspx-in-a-mixed-authentication-environment/.
    - I faced one more issue as a result of above workaround; Sign Out functionality wasn't working well; users get logged in automatically whenever I click on Sign Out. I solved this by modifying the "Sign Out" Control under _layouts;
I made it to redirect users to ADFS Sign Out Page instead of SharePoint Sign Out Page (I know its not recommended, but I don't have any other option).

  • Why do I have to logon each time when opening a office Document from a SharePoint 2010 Library

    Hello guys,
I'm facing some design issue with sharepoint 2010 and Microsoft office, hope you can help me to fix this.
Why do I have to logon each time when opening a office Document from a SharePoint Library when I'm already authenticated via the browser?
Please help me to skip this authentication when i try to open office documents from sharepoint library.
    Thanks
    Jeyaraman S

Hi Jeyaraman, in addition to Alex's solution, check the following browser settings:
Make sure “Enable protected mode” in security tab & “Require server verification” in “sites” area are unchecked. In “Custom level,” choose “Automatic logon” way at the bottom.

  • Problem occurring when opening and saving files in AI SC5 with Windows 7

Hi, I ‘am a Graphic Designer and first time working in UAE Windows 7 is basically the only OS here. My PC is:
    HP Elite 7000
    Intel® Core™ i5 CPU 2.67GHz
    4GB RAM
    32-bit
Now to the problem, not that knowledgeable in IT stuff so here goes:
    1. Problem occurring when opening and saving files in AI SC5 with Windows 7. (You will actually see a “Not Responding” word coming out while opening and saving files, whether small or large files)
    2. Locked layers occasionally are moved accidentally.(Working on multiple layers is normal so we need to lock it specially the once on top. But there are times I still manage to select locked layers)
    3. After typing and locking the text, pressing “V” for the arrow key shortcut is still added to the text that is locked. (After typing I lock the text layer with my mouse and Press “V” to activate the arrow key… yes the arrow key is activated but the text is still typing the actual keyboard pressed)
I’ve only use the brand new PC and installer for a month now. Not sure if this is compatibility issues or something else I’m not aware of.
Thanks in advance to people that will reply.
    Cheers!!!

Well I’m still wondering if it is compatibility issues because I’m also having problem with Photoshop CS5. These 3 are all bought at the same time (PC, Illustrator and Photoshop installers). The problem I’m having in Photoshop is not that too important, every time I Ctrl+O to view files, all PSD are shown in white paper like icons, no preview, and saving as well.
Or I just purchased a corrupted or pirated installers… Adobe updates are done every time I’m prompted.

  • Cannot open MS Office files directly from network

    Hi all,
I'm having trouble opening Microsoft Office files off of a network drive.
When opened, the application jumps straight into the template page (attached screenshot).
I can copy files onto my local machine and open them no problem, however if I have an existing file open (from the local machine) and subsequently try to open a network file, the local file is closed and the template page replaces it.
The same symptoms occur when attempting a "Save As" to the network.

I've tried replacing the office plugin file NPOFF12.DLL from a working system to the bad system, and it didnt help. I got that by doing typing about:plugins in the address bar. This person can open PDF documents, it's just Office files that dont open. I get no prompt to do anything. I have seen threads about headers on the webpages, but I'm not sure if its applicable. I tried from OWA and it does the same thing; nothing.
