Authentifaction error -AuthorizationExecuteWithPrivileges error -60008

Hi,
I have a problem when I try to install an application.
When the privilege access are needed, I enter my administrator password, but the error-60008 (errAuthorizationInternal) occurs.
I read a post from someone who obviously had the same problem, but the solution is too technical for me.
It seems that I have to "create a directory for the purpose in /private/ tmp, and set TMPDIR to its path, before launching the helper application."
Is there anyone here that can explain me what I have to do in details?
Thanks.
Nob.

  • Unable to create "filename.dmg" (error -60008) {Disk Utility Problem}

    Hi:
I’ve used Disk Utilities awesome capabilities many times, but am now running into my first real problem.
I am trying to create a 100 GB new blank disk image, using the “Mac OS Extended (Journaled) option for format, 256-bit AES encryption, a single partition-Apple Partition Map, and Image Format as read/write disk image.
When I implement this, it asks for the AES password then repeatedly crashes, albeit in slightly different ways each time. The most informative was a Unable to create “filename.dmg” (error -60008) message. I can’t find anything explanatory about this in Google
I’m wondering if this has something to do with my upgrade to Lion (OS 10.7.4) yesterday from Snow Leopard.
This error occurs on both my home and work iMacs. It seems to reliably occur about 1/2 way through typing in my password. The error occurs whether I use 128 or 256 AES encryption.
There is more than adequate space on the hard drive I am attempting to place this image on. Disk Utility is version 12.1.1 (353) and all is running on a 2.66 GHz Intel Core i5 iMac.
Any advice would be greatly appreciated! Thank you
PS: This is a duplicate post from the OS Lion forums ( https://discussions.apple.com/message/18410534#18410534 ), but since a) it occurs on both my Intel iMacs, b) I totally rely on Disk Utility's capabilities, so this loss with the Lion upgrade really hurts, and c) we've had no luck in the Lion forums, we're hoping someone here has seen this issue and can help. Much appreciated.

Hello, I believe that's an authentication error, thinks your not an admin account. Might try this...
Safe Boot, (holding Shift key down at bootup), run Disk Utility in Applications>Utilities, then highlight your drive, click on Repair Permissions, move this folder to the Desktop for now...
    /Users/YourUserName/Library/Preferences/ByHost /
    reboot when it completes.
(Safe boot may stay on the gray radian for a long time, let it go, it's trying to repair the Hard Drive.)

  • Security API failed with error 60008

HI, I have been tryng to wrap some files (or something like that) but when I select the files it comes up with an error box saying "security API failed with error 60008" can anyone help me fix this or tell me what it is?

Launch Disk Utility and run Repair Permissions on the startup volume. Try whatever you were doing again. If there's no change, continue as follows.
Triple-click the line below to select it:
    /private/tmp
Right-click or control-click the highlighted line and select
    Services ▹ Show Info
from the contextual menu.* An Info dialog should open.
Does the dialog show "You can read and write" in the Sharing & Permissions section?
In the General section, is the box labeled Locked checked?
*If you don't see the contextual menu item, copy the selected text to the Clipboard (command-C). Open a TextEdit window and paste into it (command-V). Select the line you just pasted and continue as above.

    Again, thanks for your help!
    Here’s what I did:
       1)   In my account, I set up another administrator account
       2)   Logged out of my personal administrator account, then logged into the new SysAd account
Here’s what I found in the new administrator account:
Neither my internal hard drive, nor the two external hard drives showed up on the desktop.
I clicked on “Documents” in the dock to get a window. Here, again the internal HD did not show up.
       1)   The two external FW drives did show up this way
       2)   When I click on the various folders in the sidebar (Desktop, Downloads, Movie, Music, Pictures) I get a “the x folder cannot be opened cuz you do not have permissions” type error message.
       3)   Only “Applications” folder opened in the usual way from this approach.
When I go into Disk Utility in the SysAd account and try to create the .dmg in the usual fashion, I again get the -60008 error.
Thus, you seem to be spot on that there is something wrong with the permissions on my hard drive. But, how did this happen with the upgrade to Lion? More importantly, how do I fix it and get my permissions back to a normal state?
    Much appreciated!

  • Unable to create an encrypted disk image in Lion

disk utility gives the error Unable to create "Volume.dmg." (error - 60008) when creating an encrypted disk image. I am using the following steps:
        1.    Open disk utility
        2.    Select the disk (internal or external) to create the image on
        3.    Select File>New>Blank Disk Image…
        4.    Save As: 'Volume'
        5.    Name: Volume
        6.    Size: 50GB
        7.    Format: Mac OS Extended (Journaled)
        8.    Encryption: 128-bit AES encryption
        9.    Image Format: read/write disk image
        10.    Click the Create button
        11.    Password dialog appears
        12.    When I enter a password the dialog closes after entering only a few characters i.e. before I've finished typing, and the following error message displays:
    Unable to create "Volume.dmg." (error - 60008)
I have previously, successfully, created encrypted disk images in Snow Leopard, and I don't know why I can't in Lion
    Does anyone have any ideas?

    Thanks for this Thomas.
I've tried naming the image differently, but still received the error, I did however try different permutations for the password.
The error seems to happen if I use a purely numerical password string and occurs on input of the 10th numerical character, if I start with numerical character but use an alpha before the 9th number I can continue and create a password, and I can create a password  if I start with an alpha and switch to numerals after the first alpha character, purely alphabetical passwords are fine too.
It seems that Lion doesn't like purely numerical passwords greater than 9 characters, whereas Snow Leopard wasn't so fussy. Seems it's a bit of a bug.
    Thanks for your help

  • Unable to create an encrypted disk image with Disk Utility

    Hi:
With our upgrade to Lion a few weeks ago, we're now unable to create an encrypted disk image of any type using Disk Utility any more. This problem occurs on 3 different machines, and is reproducible whether one is using an internal HD or an external FW HD. We can successfully create nonencrypted disk images.
This is a duplicate post with all the details here: https://discussions.apple.com/message/18469359#18469359
We haven't had any luck with a solution trying various permissions fixes as helpfully suggested by other readers in response to the error message # (-60008 error), so I'm hoping that someone else has run across a solution from the encrypted disk image perspective and that this tag line will generate some help.
    Thank you!

    Save As: 01 (on Desktop)
    Name: 01
    Size: 100 MB
    Format: Mac OS Encrypted (Journaled)
    Encryption: 256-bit AES
Partitions: Single partition- Apple Partition Map
    Image Format: read/write disk image
At the password window that pops up I enter: 1234567890
This says password strength is "Weak"
    All works fine
    Then I repeated this using:
    Save As: 02 (on Desktop)
    Name: 02
    Size: 100 MB
    Format: Mac OS Encypted (Journaled)
    Encryption: 256-bit AES
Partitions: Single partition- Apple Partition Map
    Image Format: read/write disk image
At the password window that pops up I enter: 1234567890 and when I start to enter the next "1" I get the "Unable to create "02.dmg." (error -60008)

  • Disk Utility fails to create encrypted disk image

When creating a disk image using 256 bit encryption and a purely numeric password longer than 13 characters the following message appears:
Unable to create "ABC.dmg." (error -60008)
the error happens upon typing the 14th consecutive number into the Password field. I have created images under the same conditions in the past, Not sure if this is caused by Lion.

Looks like one of the drives is bad.
While it passed being zeored with Disk Utility, it failed about 15 minutes into a 'Certify' using SoftRAID.
Now waiting on a replacement drive from Newegg.

    Nob.

    Open /Applications/Utilities/Disk Utility
Select your hard drive at the left (e.g. "Macintosh HD")
    Click "Verify disk"
If there are any errors, start from the install disk for Tiger (hold down 'c' during restart), choose your language but do not continue with installation. Instead, go to the Utilities menu, choose Disk Utility, select your hard drive and click "repair disk". If any repairs are made, rerun the programme until you get a message saying "The volume <name of hard drive> appears to be OK". Restart.
Whether there were errors or not, open (or keep open) /Applications/Utilities/Disk Utility.
    Select your hard drive.
    Click "Repair permissions".
    See if that helps.

  • Encrypted .dmg won't mount after upgrade to Snow Leopard

Just upgraded to Snow Leopard and having trouble mounting an encrypted disk image that I use for my confidential files. I have tried mounting using both DiskImageMounter.app and the Disk Utility but both give error 60008, unable to attach.
Anyone else having similar problems or have suggestions for alternative ways of mounting?
    Best,
    Jon.

My encrypted disk image with confidential files was created under Leopard using Disk Utility. I just upgraded to Snow Leopard and when I try to mount the image, the password box comes up (as before the upgrade). But, I enter my password, and the disk image does not mount, it just keeps asking for the password again. I also have the latest MacBook Air and I also have an encrypted disk image there too with the same problem when I try to mount it. In addition, I have a LaCie 1TB External Harddrive that contains an encrypted disk image. When I try to mount this disk image, which normally appears on the desk top, I get the same repeating password box. Entering the password does nothing--other than causing the password box to reappear. All three encrypted disk images worked fine without any issues before the upgrade. So, based on the number of views that this post has had, this appears to be an issue that needs a resolution. Any suggestions or others with similar problems?

  • I can't update and restore my ipod. Also it has 7.5gb wasted

    Hi,
While I was charging my ipod video (30gb), the cable got disconnected accidentally, after this, the ipod has not anymore songs, contacts, video... anything on it, everything has been deleted, but when I used itunes, in the section of the ipod appeared 7.5 gb used. Then I tried to update and restore with the last update software, but any of those worked and it always showed the same message error (error -60008), I charged the ipod again with all songs, videos, etc and it works perfectly, but there is still a problem in the memory of the ipod. There are 15gb which appear used but there are 7.5gb of those which supposted to be free but apparently contain the same files.
The ipod has 12.6 gb free
    ibook g4   Mac OS X (10.4.6)

I had a similar problem last week, my ipod was showing space used but I couldn't access anything on my ipod. I put out a query here but wasn't lucky enough to get an answer. In the end I reformatted the ipod and rebuilt alll my play lists (a major job) - lesson learnt here was to back up the ipod when its running smoothly. I now use podutil from http://www.kennettnet.co.uk/software/podutil.php
so if it crashes again (or my 3 year old pulls out the usb at a critical moment) all is not lost and it's just a matter of a quick restore.

  • Applescript Limit to calls?

I have an Applescript app that worked in the past for modifying a few thousand files while reading from a Filemaker database. When I updated to Mavericks, it started erroring out. Eventually I narrowed it down by making a simple script that tries to modify the same file a few thousand times:
    <code>
    --  IODAppDelegate.applescript
    --  MavericksTester
    script IODAppDelegate
    property parent : class "NSObject"
    on run
tell current application to set i to 1
tell current application to set fileToWrite to "/Users/UserName/Desktop/hi.txt"
    repeat while i ≤ 100000
tell current application to set textToWrite to "hi " & i as text
    try
do shell script "echo " & quoted form of textToWrite & " >> " & fileToWrite password "###" with administrator privileges
    on error errStr number errNum
    display dialog ("error writing to hi file for " & i & " error: " & errNum as text) & " " & errStr
    end try
    set i to i + 1
    end repeat
    end run
    on applicationWillFinishLaunching:aNotification
-- Insert code here to initialize your application before any files are opened
    run
    delay 3
tell current application's NSApp to terminate:me
    end applicationWillFinishLaunching:
    on applicationShouldTerminate:sender
-- Insert code here to do any housekeeping before your application quits
    return current application's NSTerminateNow
    end applicationShouldTerminate:
    on applicationShouldTerminateAfterLastWindowClosed:notif
    return true
    end applicationShouldTerminateAfterLastWindowClosed:
    end script
    </code>
It stops after doing this 253 times. I've tried it on multiple machines running Mavericks with the same result. The message is: Security API failed with error -60008.
I appreciate any and all assistance on this.
    Thanks

I'm confused about what your ultimate goal is, but the way you're going about this test is peculiar. using do shell script and echo to write to a file is unnecessarily indirect and probably where the error is creeping in.  If you write the script as follows it works just fine.
    on run
              set fileToWrite to "/Users/tedwrigley/Test area/hi.txt"
set fp to open for access fileToWrite with write permission
              repeat with i from 1 to 100000
set textToWrite to "hi " & i as text
                        try
write quoted form of textToWrite & " >> " to fileToWrite
                        on error errStr number errNum
                                  display dialog ("error writing to hi file for " & i & " error: " & errNum as text) & " " & errStr
                        end try
              end repeat
      close access fp
    end run

  • Admin is not admin

    sorry for my english!
from 1 week ago, my admin account is not admin:
impossible to install pkg (error -60008):
authorizations are repaired, but no change.
    impossible to unlock System Preferences.
I create the "root user" before this problems. but I cant not access to Directory service.
    have you issue for me?

Daniel, For completeness; if you set up root, good practise is to disable it after use. If you did not, root should still be enabled and available to you with correct password. You could use the install disk boot to change/set root or any password.
Prescribed way to enable root is, as I suspect you already know, to use Directory Utility. The 10.6 root to it is through Accounts in Systewm Preferences. Click on 'Help' in the finder and ask about Directory Utility. Click on the option in dialogue for 'Enabling root user'. In brief it tells you to use an admin PW (problem for you), to unlock the little lock. then choose to join 'Network Account Server'.
The above might give you problems as your admin is not admin. You could, as suggested use the boot from install cd route to get root up. i suggest another way, at least at first.
Directory Utility, is now an application, it lives in .System/Library/CoreServices . Don't worry about playing with .System. All you are going to do is to find the Dierectory Utility application. Do that>>highlight it>>drag the icon to the dock in the apps section. Make sure Core Services still has the actual app. It should have. You now have a direct, and shorter, route to Directory utility. By the way, I suggest you do all this in the admin user login. that way the no admin will not have access so to this important application.
The next, which you will know, is to enable root>>login to root>>make the 'admin' a real admin>>log out of root>>log into admin>>check he does administer>>use admin and the Directory Utility dock shortcut to open DU and then disable root. QED
