Auto complete of urls missing in safari 6.0

am a newbie to mac and slowly learnin on... my safari got updated recently. in the previous versions just entering the name and pressing enter would automatically take me to the site i wanted. Eg:  hotmail + enter would take me to www.hotmail.com .... similar to the ctrl+enter of windows... now entering just the name takes me to google suggestions.. is there anything to get that easy fill of url back to system... or any new shortcuts to autofill WWW and .COM ??
any suggestions to m

As you enter the name of the site you want to go, you can select  "Go to Site"
from the drop down. Then WWW and .com will be added.
More clicks perhaps. And it does not work for all the sites.

  • How do I stop auto-complete of URl's?

When I type a URL I get at autcomplete of suggested URL's I have typed in the past and a drop down list of URL's I have typed in the past. How to I turn this off or at least clear it? I have already tried clearing my history and auto complete and I am still getting that.

There has got to be a way to erase that autofill information.
The only way I know how to clear it is not a good way. It would be *Reset Safari* which to me would be overkill. He would be better off not leaving any evidence to have to clear. Tell your friend to go to Safari in the menu bar. Now click *Private Browsing*. That will allow him to surf to his hearts content and nothing is saved to the autofill or other incriminating places:->
This is what it says when you get ready to activate it.
+When private browsing is turned on, webpages are not added to the history, items are automatically removed from the Downloads window, information isn't saved for AutoFill (including names and passwords), and searches are not added to the pop-up menu in the Google search box. Until you close the window, you can still click the Back and Forward buttons to return to webpages you have opened.+

  • Location of Auto-Complete Data ?

My auto-complete data is missing in Snow Leopard.
Good thing I have a complete backup of my old Leopard machine.
Does anyone know where I can find the auto-complete address data for Mail?

I hope this is the thread I need. I have repeatedly emptied my "Previous Recipients" in Mail/Window/Previous Recipients. Nevertheless Mail "autocompletes" entries in the "To" line of Mail with spurious information (i.e. a mismatch between Name and email address). The Name is autocomplete entered, accompanied by an email address from another person. My Address Book looks okay (although it has been acting a little squirelly since I upgraded to 10.6; have to shut it down and restart Mail on frequent occasions). I assume that there must be another data file between Address Book and Mail that is offering up these spurious autocomplete entries but that is just a guess. Any suggestions?

  • How can I stop safari from auto completing url's on my iphone 4 and ipad2?

How can I stop safari from auto completing url's on my iphone 4 and ipad2?  On both devices I have cleared history, I have gone into settings-safari-and cleared history and cleared cookies & data, tried turning my devices on and off and I also have private browsing turned on. Both devices are operating on iOS 5.  When I type in a url I don't want anything to show and auto complete.  Any suggestions?

    This indicates corrupt files.
    A restore should resolve.

  • How to stop safari from auto completing url?

    Re: Safari v. 5.1
    OS: 10.6.8
How can I stop Safari from auto-completing url entries when I begin typing or entering a url in the http box i.e. can I turn this feature off?
    Thanks,
    Henrik

    Unfortunaly, that's a problem.

  • The URL does not auto complete nor does the favicon display

When I type in a partial URL, such as apple, it used to be completed to the full URL and display the Apple favicon.  It now goes to the website, but the typed word, apple, remains without completing the URL.  The favicon remains as a blue dot.
I have reinstalled Lion, to solve other issues which have been resolved.  The Safari issue is not resolved.  I cannot download a new Safari copy for the only Safari 5.1 available in support > downloads is for Snow Leopard.
I know many don't like the auto complete URL feature, but I like to know the full address.

    Go to ~/Library/Safari.
Move the WebpageIcons.db and the LastSesssion.plist files from the Safari folder to the Trash.
    Now go to ~/Library/Caches/com.apple.Safari.
Move the Cache.db file from the com.apple.Safari folder to the Trash.
~ (Tilde) represents the Home folder.
For LIon:   To find the Home folder in OS X Lion, open the Finder, hold the Option key, and choose Go > Library
Unfortunately, the only way to reinstall Safari if necessary is to use Lion Recovery.

  • Why Safari 6.0 will not auto complete the password ?

Why Safari 6.0 will not auto complete the password ? even when the option is selected in autofill tab, and the user-password are listed in the password tab ?
It used to work fine before I upgraded to mountain lion.
      Tks

Same problem for me since upgrading to ML.  Safari remembers autofills for some passwords but not others.  For example my web mail password was no longer auto filled.  Checked in the keychain list and all the info was there. Therefore I deleted this and tried again - but Safari did not offer to remember the password.  Than ran an old script I had that is designed to "Removed autocomplete=off from 0 forms and from 2 form elements, and removed onsubmit from 0 forms. After you type your password and submit the form, the browser will offer to remember your password." Safari then offered to remember the password.  I accepted this and checked that the password was then saved in keychain - it was. However, next time I tried to access the email Safari once more did not auto complete.  Very frustrating, especially as some auto completes do work.  I hope apple sort this out soon.

  • Awesome Bar: auto-complete suggestion does not remember port number from URL

I visit URLs with non-standard ports all the time such as http://localhost:8080.
When I start typing "localhost" into the address bar, the Awesome Bar suggests only "http://localhost" - i.e. WITHOUT the port 8080 - instead of suggesting the full URL including the port.
I never visit "localhost" without port 8080 so that entry should not even be in my history at all.
The Awesome Bar should always remember port numbers when making suggestions.

Unfortunately that doesn't work. Even with the URL bookmarked, typing "local" to begin the autocomplete still results in the URL being auto-completed without a port number.
Typing the name of the bookmark itself results in no auto-complete at all, meaning you still have to press the down arrow before hitting "return" to get to the correct URL. So you're back at square one.

  • Can't disable Web Address Auto-complete in Safari nor Firefox

    Hi there,
I am trying to disable the web address auto-complete in order to access my Intranet Server. I tried configuration inside Web Browser (firefox) but doesn't work. Seems to be system configuration since is the same with Safari. If I enter the address http://myserver:8080 always autocompletes to http://www.myserver.com:8080 and can't access the Intranet web server...
Thanks in advance for the help.
    Pepe
    Mac OSX 10.6.2

Safari and Firefox, both have a configuration utility to solve this. In Firefox, writing about:config in the address bar and look for the features that contains the prefix www and the suffix .com, clear those two fields and that's it.
So, the problem was browser related, not system related.
    Thanks

  • Address bar suggestion drop down no longer accepts a left click to auto complete and goto url, instead left click is forcing a generic search.

Using firefox 31.0, following update I seem to no longer be able to left click a suggested url for it to auto-complete and GOTO...
I am happy to recheck all about:config again, as part of getting to the route of this "issue", ..
In fact I will try anything, I have tried a fresh install of firefox, this has not worked, however the "feature" I am trying to describe still works under safe mode, which means I think that there has to be something that is incorrect in my config.
Thank you all in advance for any pointers tips... and possible resolve offered.

I am bad a rhyming, but Safe Mode essentially only disables add ons. I would disable them one by one to find the culprit.

  • Auto-complete fields in Safari?

Given the fact that we are often logging into web sites, having to always populate user IDs and password on the iphone's tiny touch keypad, is there a way to have Safari either remember or somehow assist in auto-completing these fields the way a Web Browser works on a full sized computer?

I login to a number of websites that require a user name and password entry including this website. The user name entry is remembered and automatically entered in the user name field when I return to such a website, which is saved as a cookie.
The password entry is not saved as part of a security feature in the event your iPhone is lost or stolen especially if you don't use the passcode lock feature.
What is your setting on the iPhone for accepting cookies?
Settings > Safari > Accept Cookies with the following options:
    Never
    From visited
    Always

  • Auto complete address bar URL alphabetical

When I start to type in the address bar the drop down auto complete shows many choices but the first two are sites I rarely visit and they are not in alphabetical order.
The site I'm usually typing is first alphabetically and usually I have dozens of different pages I visit on that site. Obviously not a reall problem just a curious inconvenience.

  • Auto complete does not work when entering a URL

firefox 3.10.6 on Fedora Linux fc13 x86_64. Show all history shows the history of visited web sites. "Remember History" is on. The auto complete was working. I did try unchecking view the bookmark toolbar, but not sure if that caused the loss of auto complete.

I tried that and it doesn't work. I have Mac OX v 10.6.4 . Anyone have a clue? It's very frustrating. thanks.

  • How to delete the existing list and prevent auto-completed web sites?

Hi, As soon as I start to type "www" in the address bar, a list of previously visited web sites appears, as if auto-completed. They seem rather random, and not necessarily the most recent ones. I have tried resetting Safari, deleting the cache, looking these sites up in the various plist folders in the Library, using Safari in Private mode, etc. but it still happens. I find it a nuisance.
How do I delete the existing sites, and how do I prevent more from appearing in the future?
    Thanks,
    Richard

    HI,
    Go to Safari/Preferences - AutoFill
    Click where it says: Edit
You can Remove All or edit which url's you don't want.

  • Auto fill the URL

I recently switched to mac and one of the little things that really annoys me is that I cant find out how to auto fill a URL when I'm on the internet. (automatically add the WWW and the .com) Ive tried both firefox and safari. In windows its CTRL+Enter. Ive tried command + return with some success but I think the only reason that works sometimes is that I may already ahve that URL in my bookmarks. Is there a way to do this in OSX?

    Welcome to Apple Discussions:
Since you are new to mac, you have not developed a browser history which the selfcomplete function uses to do what you are asking.
For instance if I enter g in the browser and wait a very short time, google.com pops up.
The http://www. is automatically added when you hit the enter key.
If there are many sites starting with g, they all appear in a dropdown menu. As I keep typing, the list shortens.
Try entering the first letter(s) of a website you have already visited and see if that happens.
With FF it's similar but you have to scroll down to get the actual URL from the dropdown box. There may be a way to have the URL complete in the address box - I have not looked too deeply into FF.
