Auto Cropping

Want to crop two individuals out of photo and end result be 4 x 6. Using auto crop the resolution is too small - using auto crop and entering 300 for resolution the image does not print 4 x 6. I need to know/learn how best crop out objects and be able to print them clearly - Thanks!

Lori,
I do not know what "auto crop" is...
My recommendation would be for you to use the Rectangular Marquee tool, set
to a 4x6 aspect ratio, to establish the portion of the original image you
want to retain. Then click Image > Crop to crop to the selection. Then use
Image > Resize > Image Size to adjust the resolution, if required.
Using the Crop Tool it is possible to get similar results, but it does
several things at once, and you don't get to control them all.

  • Is there any way to prevent Aperture from Auto Cropping an image?

Is there any way to prevent Aperture from auto cropping an image? I use the "Do Not Crop" aspect ratio often and Aperture constantly picks cropping aspects for me, which is driving me crazy. Can I set "Do Not Crop" as the ratio I want on a more permanent basis anyhow? Thanks for the help.
    Chris

This is a current bug.  Please report it via "Aperture→Send Aperture Feedback".
Just to clarify, the problem is not auto-cropping, the problem is the the crop tool aspect ratio is arbitrarily set (in my case, always to something close to the current crop aspect ratio).  You can reset it (on a per-crop basis) to "Do not constrain".
    It is very bothersome.
You might try trashing your prefs.  Details on the Trouble-shooting page.  I have had the bug return more than once.

  • Auto crop 16:9 into 4:3

If I import a 16:9 video (shotten by a canon LEGRIA FS406) premiere pro auto crops it to a 4:3 format. But if I import a random 16:9 video premiere don't crop it. Does anyone know why and how to fix it?

What does the interprete footage  (project panel) say about the clip.

  • Photos get auto-cropped and ken burns. stop it.

Trying to do a stop motion. don't need the photos to movie. Cant get imovie to stop auto cropping and ken burns-ing the photos on import from iphoto. Would be fine, but i can't bulk adjust them either, tired of going through frame by frame and putting it back to fit. help.

When you start a new project, or to change a project you are currently working on, go to FILE/PROJECT PROPERTIES, and you can change the default behaviour for initial photo placement from Ken Burns to either FIT or CROP. Crop will make the photo fit the frame exactly by cropping off the top abd bottom. FIT will make the entire photo fit by letterboxing.
If you make your photos have the same aspect ratio as your project (either 16:9 or 4:3), then FIT and CROP produce the same result, and nothing is lost from the photo.
The FILE/PROJECT PROPERTIES will only change photos that you add going forward.
To change a bunch of photos that are already there, change one photo using the Rotate, Crop, Ken Burns Tool. Then, with the photo still selected, EDIT/COPY.
Now, select all the photos you want to change by holding down the Command Key as you click, so you can select multiple photos.
    Now, click EDIT/PASTE ADJUSTMENTS.../CROP ADJUSTMENTS.

  • Photoshop CS6: Auto Crop and Straighten work wrong (EDIT)

    Hello together,
I use the Creative Cloud for Students (German) and have make for some days an update of my programs like Photoshop CS6.
Since today the option of automatic crop and straighten makes some big problems.
    Edit:
    I make following Steps:
1.) Duplicate the level and make the first level invisible.
2.) I use the crop tool to mark the details which I want to have free.
3.) Click on the mask symbole in the level section
4.) At the end I click "auto crop and straighten"
It makes 39 little pics out of one. This isn't what I want to do and it is since the last update.
    --> Edit end.
I hope someone understand my problem and can help.

Since your question asks "Could we ..." I would like to state that "we" cannot do such a thing. "We" here in this forum are Lightroom users, and not Adobe employees. If you'd like to make a request for a specific new feature in Lightroom, there is a link right here on the front page of this forum to the proper place to make feature requests.

  • Auto crop object that is too large during export?

Is there an option that I can choose to auto crop emitters during export? So that my export doesn't stop and wait for me to click the "ok" pop-up window before continuing?
    Thank you!

Thanks I'll try that. Also I found out the pop-up windows don’t actually stop the exporting process. They were a warning that the image was going to be cropped during export. They were, and it finished… so everyone is happy.
    Thank you for your advice.

  • Off Topic, Help with Batch Auto Cropping

I have 2000+ scanned slides (Nikon 4000 film scanner) in Tiff format, and there is a black band around each scanned slide (which is normal for slides - the scanned area is slightly larger than the picture area) that I want to get rid of. I am NOT going to crop them one at a time!! Does anyone know of a program that will do this automatically in batch mode? I once saw a program that would "auto Crop" photos but I can't remember the name. The slides are 30 years old ( hence the digitizing ) and I don't care too much about the accuracy, ie if it crops a little too much.
    Thanks

and another thing, once you do the l&S crop, if you want to move the location slightly, hit 'C' to bring up the crop HUD and the image goes back to full size again, but with the crop rectangle the same size as before and you can move it around if need be ...
this was an important thing that was introduced in 1.5.x along with l&s of straightening ...

  • Why does Compressor auto-crop?

    This is puzzling.
I'm trying to compress a vanilla 2-minute 720p movie (Quicktime reports Format as Apple Animation, 1280x720 and Actual Size as 1280x720). When using Compressor 3.5.2 with the standard Quicktime H.264 preset, the compressed movie is, according to QT, an H.264, 1280x720 movie, but the Actual Size is 1248 x 702, thus some stuff got auto-cropped. Why? Is there a way to correct this, so you get a true 1280x720? Even when duplicating the QT setting and manually setting dimensions in Geometry to 1280x720, the same cropped stuff comes out of Compressor.
Is there any way to correct this?

Sorry, but your solution does not work.
Here's the reproduction, step by step
    1. Launch Compressor
    2. Go to the Settings windows, choose Format, then pick the standard Quicktime H.264 preset and drag it into the jobs window
    3. Highlight it, then, as you said, go to the Geometry tab, then change Dimensions to 1280x720
    4. In the jobs window, right click on the file arrow, select Source, then File and then pick the File to encode. Pick any 720p - this problem is reproducible with any 720p file I tried.
    5. In the preview window, everything looks fine - 1280x720
    6. Now compress it - boom, it's cropped to 1248 x 702
    Frustrating...

Hello, I recently uploaded about 250 photos from my phone onto iPhoto. However, when I go to view them, they have already been auto-cropped. It seems I must click "Edit," and then "Crop," and then expand the box to the fullest size. I don't have enough time to undo this auto-crop with all 250 photos. Any suggestions?

    @SuperMan
I noticed this as well when navigating through the photo gallery on my iPhone.
If you (and he) are asking about iPhone operation then you are in the wrong place - this is the iPhoto for Mac forum - there are forums for the iPhone, iPad and iPod touch as well as iPhoto for IOS -
I do not see any cropping in iPhoto on the Mac for either camera or iPhone photos (I use PhotoStream with auto import to get my iPhone photos to iPhoto on my Mac) - and given the way iPhoto works it is really not possible to have auto-cropping - the only thing that I see even close to that is that when you select edit ==> drop the default crop is slightly smaller than the photo - but unless you accept that nothing is changed and the photo is exactly as imported

  • Auto crop Scanned Images w/black edge? 1500+ photos to crop!

I have a job where the client scanned over 1500 photos but didn't crop them properly so there's random black bars & edges everywhere that I'm required to get rid of. Is there any way for Photoshop or ANY application to auto detect and crop & save a batch of photos? This would save me a TON of work. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.
I'm currently running Mac OS X Leopard10.5.5, CS3 production suite, Aperature, iPhoto and more

    >Wouldn't that make cropping unpredictable?
Only if the complete edge of a pic has the same values (and then really isn't it part of the edge? ;) ). Crop works on the bounds, so pixels inside don't matter. I think to really answer the post, we need a better idea of what these edges are. 0,0,0 generated by cropping as a bg color? Scanned rich black complete with detectable kicker rosette? Tranny black?

  • Auto crop multiple scanned images ?

I scan multiple passport photo from a magazine along with other texts on the pages. My purpose is to crop only the passport photos to individual.jpg images Is there an action script to auto detect faces and crop them to individual files.I am versed with automation->Crop and Straighten, but my problem is that the text also get croped into individual jpg files and sometimes the faces also get cut off . Is there a solution to it.

It works best when PSE can easily see the edges of each photo, so it often helps to place them slightly crooked on the scanner bed. Just be sure that PSE can draw a straight line between any two photos.

  • Auto-Cropping gang-scanned photos! HELP

I need help figuring out how to correctly divide scanned photos automaticly. Photoshop Elements 10 had a preset to do this but everytime we go to use it, it crops them wrong. This is the sole reason we purchased Photoshop Elements 10. It's cropping right down the center of the photos. Can someone please help, we've been working on this for days! Thanks

Try putting the photos more crooked on the scanner bed, and if they're very faded and pale, try putting a contrasting background behind them before you scan them. Also try a different arrangement. Something is preventing PSE from seing the edges properly.
Incidentally, many scanner drivers have the ability to do this these days, sometimes better than PSE can. If you strike out again with PSE, see if the scanner can do it for you.

  • LR5.1 Shooting tethered need to auto crop

    Hi.
I shoot for online retail and I need everything to be 8x10. I shoot everthing tethered and I'm trying to save as much time as possible. My model doesn't move she just changes clothing.
I set up a preset with white balance, lens correction and other small refinements that runs on each picture as its imported from my camera (tethered) however I can't find a ways to get it to crop. So what I've resorted too is after the shoot is done crop 1 photo cmd+shft+c and select all the photos and then cmd+shft+v and go through the fine tune them.
Does anyone have a solution for me?
    Thanks
    Didrik

    Shoot one image.
    Crop it.
In the Tether Dialog Shooting Bar, set the Develop Settings to Same As Previous
Continue to shoot and the subsequent shots should come in automatically cropped to the first photo's aspect ratio.

  • IPhoto auto cropping my photos???

    Hi guys,
The problem I'm having is iPhoto is taking my pictures and they're being cropped into faces. i'm not in the faces tab or nothing but lets say i have a group photo, iphoto would take that photo and split it up into 5, or 6 different photos based on each persons face. and all i would see is their face. kind of like if you did them in faces, but im not in faces and when i go to show file, it would say, party01_face1.jpg.
any ideas or help would be appreciated. thank you.

    party01_face1.jpg.
It appears that you are using the Finder to view photos inside the iPhoto library. That image file you saw was a faces file that is created by iPhoto when you select a face. If you were using the *Search For ➙ Photos* feature in the Finder you'll see many of those files, originals, modified and faces that iPhoto creates and uses. *You don't want to use that feature to access photos in your library*.
The following is from one of Terence Devlin’s posts on file access for use outside of iPhoto. It’s the definitive treatise on the subject.
Since iPhoto 7 (iLife 08) the old iPhoto Library Folder is now a Package File. This is simply a folder that looks like a file in the Finder. The change was made to the format of the iPhoto library because many users were inadvertently corrupting their library by browsing through it with other software or making changes in it themselves.
Accessing the iPhoto Library Folder directly has never been supported in any version of iPhoto.
There are many, many ways to access your files in iPhoto:
For Users of 10.5 and later
You can use any Open / Attach / Browse dialogue. On the left there's a Media heading, your pics can be accessed there. Command-Click for selecting multiple pics.
    Uploaded with plasq's Skitch!
(Note the above illustration is not a Finder Window. It's the dialogue you get when you go File -> Open)
You can access the Library from the New Message Window in Mail:
    Uploaded with plasq's Skitch!
For users of 10.4 and later ...
Many internet sites such as Flickr and SmugMug have plug-ins for accessing the iPhoto Library. If the site you want to use doesn’t then some, one or any of these will also work:
To upload to a site that does not have an iPhoto Export Plug-in the recommended way is to Select the Pic in the iPhoto Window and go File -> Export and export the pic to the desktop, then upload from there. After the upload you can trash the pic on the desktop. It's only a copy and your original is safe in iPhoto.
This is also true for emailing with Web-based services. However, if you're using Gmail you can use iPhoto2GMail
If you use Apple's Mail, Entourage, AOL or Eudora you can email from within iPhoto.
If you use a Cocoa-based Browser such as Safari, you can drag the pics from the iPhoto Window to the Attach window in the browser.
If you want to access the files with iPhoto not running:
For users of 10.6 and later:
You can download a free Services component from MacOSXAutomation which will give you access to the iPhoto Library from your Services Menu. Using the Services Preference Pane you can even create a keyboard shortcut for it.
For Users of 10.4 and later:
Create a Media Browser using Automator (takes about 10 seconds) or use this free utility Karelia iMedia Browser
    Other options include:
    1. Drag and Drop: Drag a photo from the iPhoto Window to the desktop, there iPhoto will make a full-sized copy of the pic.
    2. File -> Export: Select the files in the iPhoto Window and go File -> Export. The dialogue will give you various options, including altering the format, naming the files and changing the size. Again, producing a copy.
    3. Show File: Right- (or Control-) Click on a pic and in the resulting dialogue choose 'Show File'. A Finder window will pop open with the file already selected.
You can set Photoshop (or any image editor) as an external editor in iPhoto. (Preferences -> General -> Edit Photo: Choose from the Drop Down Menu.) This way, when you double click a pic to edit in iPhoto it will open automatically in Photoshop or your Image Editor, and when you save it it's sent back to iPhoto automatically. This is the only way that edits made in another application will be displayed in iPhoto.
All of the above are a: faster and b: Safer than rooting around in the old Library Folder.
