Autofill performance in iTunes 7?

I just upgraded to iTunes 7, and am trying to autofill my 512k shuffle - and it is slowwwwwww! It was never "fast" with iTunes 6, but on 7 this is literally going to take overnight to autofill. Any thoughts on how to fix it, or should I go back v6?
thanks,
bt

It's a mix of mp3, wma, and aac - probably 90% mp3.
I'm doing an autofill right now, and after 3 hours it's about 25% complete, so we're talking 12 hours or so to complete. It was about an hour in iTunes 6 - not quick, but manageable. It is chewing up a decent amount of CPU, too - about 25% of a 1.3G Celeron. The USB transfer time should be a big deal (500MB at USB-II speeds is seconds, not hours), so I'm assuming it's just doing some painfully slow transcoding.
thanks,
bt

  • I attempted to perform the itunes update on two different PCs and itunes will no longer open and I received a message to reinstall itunes. The reinstall did not work and I now receive a Runtime error message (R6034) re: library loading incorrectly. Help?

I attempted to perform the itunes update on two different PCs. Itunes will no longer open and prompted me to reinstall itunes.  The reinstall did not work after several attempts and I received an error: "Runtime error R6034. An application has made an attempt to load the C Runtime library incorrectly. Please contact the application's support team for more information."  Has anyone else had this issue? How can I resolve it?

I've been having the same exact problem this morning, and from the looks of it a lot of other people are posting about this issue, so I don't know if it's maybe something wrong with the download but I'm just relieved that it seems to be that instead of a corruption issue with my windows installation.  I'm just wondering how long this will take to be resolved.

  • Can no longer Autofill after latest iTunes Update

My iPod Shuffled worked fine until I upgraded to the latest version of iTunes (version 7.5.020). Since the upgrade I continually have problems autofilling my Shuffle. iTunes will start to copying songs to my Shuffle and after a couple songs are copied iTunes will start over again. I have tried disabling all other software when autofilling but it still doesn't work. Also I have tried various options on the iTunes software without any success.

Hi Zak, thanks for the reply.
The filename is whatever is set to be the background fill of the site (I presume the desktop background fill, if mobile versions are set to be different). I've tried a number of different files, sizes and types/formats and the result is still the same, so as far as I can tell it's not the file itself causing the issue...
It uploads all pages (desktop, tablet and phone versions), .css files and .html files, and even the favicon .ico file but then hangs on the first image file, which incidentally is the background fill image.
The total number of files is said to be 154. It gets stuck on file number 24.
Yes the "Resume" dialog appears and upon clicking it just attempts to continue from the hang at the first image file (apparently 66% of the way through).
Re: the "BC site has changed" part - I thought as much but figured worth reporting.
... Incidentally, as I've written this reply, I left the "Resume" dialog open (ie neither clicking "resume" or "cancel" and just as I've finished typing it appears to have published the site successfully?!! (I must've left it for roughly 5 minutes)
Bizarre behaviour... I'm not sure if this will repeat itself with other sites but I'm sure there's a bug here that needs looking at regardless...?!
    Any thoughts?

  • Slow performance of iTunes store with TV show favorites?

I am wondering if anyone else has been seeing performance problems with the Apple TV when using the iTunes store and TV show favorites? I am having issues with the iTunes store account when I log into my 'Favorites' for TV programs. It takes a LONG time to log in and bring up my favorites list (like 2 minutes sometimes!), and sometimes it will fail and say the iTunes store is not available.
Yet browsing around the store without loading my favorites everything is peachy. Usually once I get into the favorites and load a show, it will play, although sometimes it thinks I have not purchased an episode when I have a season pass, and ask me to purchase it. If I click purchase, it tells me it is already purchased and would I like to download it, and then it plays.
I have a lot of shows in my favorites list now, so I think the system is getting overloaded or something and is having issues due to the number of shows I have in my favorites list? It was always way faster when I had less shows in my favorites list.
Also, when I start having connection errors if I restart my Apple TV it usually works much better (but still slow). Rebooting my router makes not difference (Apple Airport Extreme) and both of my Apple TV's exhibit the same problems in the bedroom or living room.
None of this is running on WiFi either; it is all hard cabled.
Honestly I think the iTunes store servers are getting overloaded when trying to deal with customer accounts that have a lot of favorites in the cloud? Has anyone else been experiencing the same problem?

I would guess that the Singapore itunes store does not sell these things.  If they did, then you would see them.

  • Autofill feature in Itunes not working for my shuffle

I just updated to the newest Itunes version and no I can click the autofill button all day long, but it won't bring any music into the playlist. Nothing. The button is dead. Anyone else have this problem or have a solution?

    Jesse,
First you create a playlist: click on the "+" button at the bottom left of the iTunes screen -- name it whatever you like. Then drag and drop songs from your library into the playlist. Plug in your Shuffle. Select the playlist you want Autofilled from the list appearing above the Autofill button (there should be a least one playlist showing -- the one you just created). Then click the Autofill button and your playlist should be loaded into your Shuffle.

  • Annoying and dangerous "Autofill" bar in iTunes 8.2

Is there any way to disable/hide the annoying "Autofill from" bar in iTunes 8.2? I accidentally clicked on it and ended up filling my iPod Touch with over 1,000 songs from the song library on my Mac I didn't really want there. I than had to manually delete them in order to be able to add ANYTHING to the iPod. Yes, I later discovered that you can set the limits to the autofill function, but how about adding the ability to TURN OFF it this annoying "feature"?

You can be as careful as you like, but there really shouldn't be a big "screw stuff up" button.
Mostly, I want the vertical screen space back. I'll never use autofill and really don't want to see it all the time.
There's probably a hidden setting to shut it off but I'm not sure how you find those.

  • Poor Video Performance in iTunes

I have this notebook which is almost 2 years old but still doing its job pretty well except for when it comes to playing videos in iTunes. They're sloooow, stopping a few seconds and then slow again. I never get the right speed of the picture. The sounds fine but the picture is crap. And it doesn't really matter what kind of video. It will happen with the ABC World News Podcast and it will happen with a downloaded show, let's say Grey's Anatomy. Vista is new on this computer but I had the same problem when running XP on it. I have Quicktime Pro, so I use that. And guess what? In Quicktime it's just fine! Sometimes I experience temporary slowdowns, but that's rare. The funny thing is though, Quicktime works okay, iTunes doesn't. But actually (and it really hurts me to say that, believe me) I get the best performance with Windows Media Player 11. Now please somebody tell me why and how to fix this. I guess it must be an iTunes issue because if I run iTunes and don't play anything and open Quicktime at the same time (so I'm running iTunes and Quicktime at the same time) videos play good in Quicktime, slow in iTunes. And yea.... Media Player ALWAYS works the
    best...
I've forgot to mention that purchased videos of course won't play in the Windows Media Player. So here I stick with Quicktime, which is working okay, but it could be better. I paid $30 for Pro, so I should get Pro performance. I know the notebook is not the youngest but I'm just talking about video playback. And if Microsoft can make it happen, Apple should certainly be able to.

that is actually very true. plus the fact that h.264, even in HD, plays perfectly in media player 11. i get the feeling the fewer features a mediaplayer has, the quicker it is. i'm not a software engineer but i really have no idea why itunes is wasting so much system ressources on windows. i don't know if it's the same on the mac? i mean yea, you could argue i should get a mac. and how i would love to, but since macs aren't cheap, not even the tiny macbooks, it's out of the question for me at the moment. but i do own a video ipod and bought quicktime pro, sure all the shows i download with itunes look great on the video ipod, but not on quicktime. and i think i still deserve to get the same for my not so old notebook, right?

  • Slow QuickTime performance in iTunes 7.5 while standalone QuickTime is fine

I have iTunes 7.5.0.20 installed on my XP laptop. When I try to play video podcasts (m4v's) from iTunes, QuickTime video playback is extremely slow and jittery (showing a frame every two or three seconds), the audio skips, and one of my CPU cores is completely pegged by iTunes while the popup window is open. Closing the window stops playback and returns things to normal.
The funny thing is, when I play the video directly through the QuickTime Player without using iTunes, playback is solid and CPU usage is minimal.
    What gives?

    Hi,
Thank you. Had to perform the following steps 'IN ORDER' to get 7.5 to work. Formerly was running iTunes 7.3.1 'without' incident.
    1) Install iTunes 7.5. Quick Time 7.3 installs at same time. When error message occurs, click OK and finish installation.
    2) Go to 'control panel' and remove 'Quick Time 7.3'
    3) Install Quick Time '7.2.
    4) Re-boot system and launch iTunes 7.5. How 'bout that. It works !!
    Best Regards, DE

  • Shuffle won't autofill or load iTunes - won't authorise computer

I bought a Shuffle yesterday and downloaded half a dozen songs from iTunes. They appear in my Music folder fine, and one has transferred, but it won't transfer the rest to my iPod either by autofill or dragging. If I try and play them, I get a message saying my computer is not authorised to play them, but if I then authorise it, it makes no difference and the same message comes up. My ex-husband had a Nano that he used on this computer. I have used a different email address for my account, but the old one still appears in the authorisation box, even though I have completely removed the programs and reinstalled them. I have tried deauthorising, but nothing makes any difference. So I have tunes that I can't play anywhere or sync on my Shuffle - HELP!

I had a similar issue, my 2nd Gen ipod shuffle that has been working fine for years did not show up in Itunes (I got a Windows message saying my USB device was not recognized).  This issue started after I installed the latest version of itues, 11.2.0.115.  I found this and it solved my problem.
    http://support.apple.com/kb/TS1363
Go to step 2 Restart the iPod Service.
I just stopped the ipod service and then started it again, now my shuffle shows up in itunes just like it used to.

  • ITunes 12.01 performs INACCURATE iTunes library update

I am running Yosemite on an iMac purchased 18 months ago which I had custom built with the best options.  However, this last iTunes update left over 100  music videos etc in my library as 'undiscoverable'.  I have had to MANUALLY find these in my library and update them.  I finally gave up, exhausted and  now devoting my energy to alerting others of this problem.  Any 'fixes' would be most welcomed.  Dr Jim, San Antonio.

    Hi Jan-Joost,
I was having the exact same problem. I found this solution on another thread, tried it and it worked. The iTunes download that is coming from the App Store must be corrupted. Go to Apple.com and find the "download iTunes now" page and download it directly from there. Take it from your "Downloads" folder and install as normal.

  • Outboard drive / loosing songs / slow performance in iTunes

OK- I have xp and I have 65,000 songs using up 400gb of a terabite drive.
I have iTunes on my C:/ drive and all the music on my (72000rpm) (E:) TB drive.
    1) I get arbitary skips on playback. I have the itunes buffer set to large.
2)on launch of itunes I get nothing, re-launch, re-launch, re-launch etc... sometimes it will launch or I re-load a new itunes from the site and start over. I did do the set to headphones out so well see on that.
    3) BIG THING is I need to reload the music all the time into itunes and I loose songs! down from 65,000 to 57,100??????
    Any help would be great!!!

Biggest caution to be aware of when using external drive is to have it plugged in and mounted before starting iTunes. Otherwise iTunes defaults library to default location.
This doesn't help with issue 1. Playback from external is limited to bandwidth of your interface. If you are using USB, I would expect problems due to the bandwidth sharing nature of USB.
Issue 2 should be able to be avoided by making drive available before starting iTunes. Doing this I have never had library problems. I don't know what headphones would have to do with it. Why are you meaning with that?
Issue 3 is strange. I have only had to do this once and that was after program update.

  • Why the sluggish performance in iTunes 8.1 OS 10.4 after adding 240 GB...

I downloaded a friends library of mp3 music and imported it to my itunes library on my lacie Quad 1TB. The new music does not have artwork or any info other than title and artist. Since then I get the color wheel upon launch (6 minutes) and every time I try to add music or edit info. A tech at the Apple store thought that my processor can't handle all the data. Is this possible, or is there something seriously wrong that could be fixed? I know my G4 is old, but all my other apps like Photoshop and Illustrator are working fine. Thanx in advance

I think it is simply the size of the library coupled with the smart playlists. If the smart playlists are set to refresh automatically then every time you do anything with iTunes it is going through and seeing how what you did affects 240GB of music. If how you operate does not frequently change the smart playlists you can go through and set them not to refresh automatically.
The above is also factored with the equipment. If somebody had your library and brand new Mac Pro it would, of course, do it all faster.
Do you have redundant smart playlists? I discovered I had a couple that I wasn't really using and I could do what they did with a simple column sort for the once or twice a year I needed them. I deleted 3 and found a noticeable increase in response.
Another thing to consider is trimming down iTunes. If I may be frank, 240 GB of music is a ridiculous amount, especially if some of that is mp3. I'd hazard to guess you could play iTunes 24/7 for a whole year and not get through it all. If you have some of it just to have it, well, maybe think about using two libraries. I am considering splitting off my classical collection from my other stuff since it is unlikely I am going to play a Beethoven symphony along with The Clash.

  • Sluggish iPhone performance after iTunes Match

My iPhone is sluggish and I think it happened after enabling iTunes Match.  I notice the sluggishness mainly in the Music app.  If I'm playing something and the iPhone goes to sleep, when I wake it takes maybe 10 seconds before it will let me unlock the slider.  The Music app takes awhile to load, and it always goes out to the Internet on launch.  If I play a tune then turn the phone sideways to view coverflow it takes at least several seconds.  I don't remember the phone behaving this way before iTunes Match.  It's an iPhone 4 running iOS 5.1.1.  Any ideas?

My Camaro will recognize the iPhone still, but sits indexing for well over 45 minutes. I have yet to be able to play anything attached via the iPhone to USB connector. Bluetooth streaming does work, however the bluetooth on my 4s keeps cutting out (always has). So bluetooth really isn't an option.
My work around for the indexing issue was to create a playlist on my computer that was a reasonable size (500 songs for me), then download everything on my iPhone, then turn iMatch off. That keeps the files local to the iPhone, and indexing is only around 5 minutes. Otherwise the Camaro's computer needs to index the 8000+ songs I have on the cloud, even if they're not physically on the iPhone.
It would be nice if Apple would have an xml index already built that the GM computer systems could access, since they are supposed to be native to each other.

  • How do I turn on autofill on my iTunes

On my destop, I have the autofill option. But on my new laptop, the autofill doesn't appear. How do you turn it on?

    Welcome to Apple Support Communities.
There are two primary places where password information may be stored: your browser, and your Keychain.
If you do not want to erase everything, you can remove Autofill information for selected websites from Safari, Preferences, Autofill.
If you want to remove everything:
Safari, Reset Safari, and selecting everything.
Note that this 'erases' the data, but it could still be recovered by a determined thief.
(If you're not using Safari, you need to do a similar procedure in any internet browser you use.)
Next, open the Keychain Access app, Preferences, General, Reset My Default Keychain:
Note that your current default keychain is 'moved aside', not erased.
For better security, it should be moved to the trash, and use Secure Empty trash.
Again, keychain info is now erased, but that does not 100% guarantee that no one could ever retrieve the information.
If you're truly worried about "security" of your personal data?
Remove your existing hard drive and destroy it. Install a brand new hard drive, install OS X from scratch without ever copying or restoring and existing information from backup or the old drive, then reinstall apps. It would be a 'fresh install' with no possibility of retrieving any previously saved information.

  • ITunes on Windows 7 performance issues - slow and hangs

Is there any way to improve performance of iTunes running on Windows 7?
It has always been slow with lots of application hangs and stalls that will resolve themselves if you wait for iTunes to catch up, but I find it incredibly frustrating.
For example, when iTunes starts and if it is checking podcasts, the entire application is unresponsive until it finishes checking and refreshing podcasts.
Alternately, when viewing my iPad Air and looking at the list of apps installed via iTunes it can take 30 seconds before iTunes responds.
Considering that this is running on a system with a quad-core Haswell processor at 3.2Ghz, 16GB of RAM and Windows 7 x64 it is pretty unacceptable.
The efficiency at which iTunes operates is just appalling.  I can run Adobe Photoshop and many more memory hungry and processor intensive applications than iTunes and get better performance than what I see in iTunes.
This is not specific to my system either.  All of my family members have iPhones and their own computers and this performance issue exists on every computer I have ever run iTunes on.
Is there any way to manually tune performance because this is pretty crappy.  It's been bugging me for years, but today just kind of feels like the last straw.

I guess the answer is, "It's terribad, live with it"
