Automatic Typing of random characters?!?!?

I have a Retina MBP. After a couple hours use (and I use it every single day, all day) it has begun getting really hot, and when it does, whatever doc i am in, or web window, the thing starts typing a stream of either ''''''''''''''' or //////////// characters. It will not stop.
If I go to shut down, the menu from which "shut down" is selected shows the blue highlight bar jumping wildly from one item to another, in fact, this is what happens on any drop-down menu I click.
No, I have never ever gotten so much as a single drop of liquid near this computer, it is in a well-vented plastic MacAlly hard shell.

To eliminate your problem as hardware related, try booting into your Recovery partition (hold down the command and R keys whilst booting) and reinstall OS X. If this doesn't fix things you either have a problem with third-party software or it's a hardware problem.

Random characters after computer name

We have a new issue with our agent deployment since we use MDT to deploy our workstations.
When computer register to ZCM some random characters appear after computer name, for example:
Computer name: corporate001
ZCM computer name: corporate001-741132927c2e6f41b5569a9f9409b983
Do you have an explaination?
ZCM Agent is automatically installed after deployment through a .vbs script.

Yes, the random number is the "Device GUID".
In your Example there would already be a device called "corporate001" in your zone.
The GUID is added since there cannot be two devices with the same name.
There are reconciliation rules that determine "matches".
Most likely, your rules rely upon MAC and/or SN and this changed instead of relying upon Workstation Name.
No one way is "Correct".
It really comes down to what works for you.
Most likely a tweak of the rules to rely more upon "Workstation Name" may work best for you since I suspect your devices are in a domain if using MDT, which means the names are unique.

My printer starts out printing PDF files in english and switches to random characters.

Hp officejet 6310 ALl in one printer. WHen printing PDF files, the part or all of the first page prints out in english and the balance is random characters. What is going wrong.

After upgrading from 11.1.15 to 11.1.16 any new or existing analysis with a graph is showing
a block of random characters instead of the graph. For example, a simple line chart shows:

First of all you will have to install 10.2.0.1 and try to bring up database with that.
I hope database was shut down cleanly and you have all datafiles/controlfile available.
Once you succeed in that then only you can upgrade the database to 11G.
There is no other way.... you will have to check first with 10G software
Also while upgrading follow the upgrade guide properly...
Upgrade path will be :
10.2.0.X.0 TO 11.1.0.6.0
1. Install 11.1.0.6.0 software
2. Upgrade the database to 11.1.0.6.0

Mail message address has random characters - Mountain Lion

After opening a blank new message, I add an easily recognized last name. Then I get dozens of random characters instead of the proper email address. Please help me Fix this problem.

I'm having the same problem in a different part of Preferences.
I keep unchecking "Logoff after X minutes of activity" in the Security and Privacy section. After restarting the setting is checked and enabled again.
My user is a network user connected to a Mountain Lion Server. I've tried the same things with different users and computers with the same results.

Copy in existing site is now just random characters

I apologize if this has been asked before...I did a search but couldn't find anything relevant.
I just opened up iWeb to update my site, and all of my copy has been replaced with random characters. Here's the weird part: if I copy the gobbledygook and paste it (i.e., to put a sample in this post), the actual text shows up.
Any idea what is going on here? This is my professional website, and I'm really hoping it's salvageable!

Try the following:
1 - delete the iWeb preference file, com.apple.iWeb.plist, that resides in your User/Library/Preferences folder.
2 - go to your User/Library/Caches/com.apple.iWeb folder and delete the contents.
3 - reboot.
4 - launch iWeb and see if the domain file will open and appear normally.

Shared photo-stream, makes long file names with 42 random characters

Windows icloud 3.1, in a shared photo-stream, makes file names with 42 random characters long. It didn't do this in iCloud 2. I have installed iCloud 3.1 on a windows 8.0 and 8.1 machine and two Windows 7 machines. They all do the same thing. It used to give me file names like "IMG_0001.jpg" now it gives me random file names like "01a9fc3363330464233a142486180f0c1622eb9fca.jpg" all the pictures are out order.
Does anyone have fix for this? Does any one else have this problem? I have posted this before and know one else that uses windows seams to have this problem exect me. I did call Apple and they did some research and bumped me up to senior techs and eventuality Apple told me this is working the way it was designed to. This is extremely stupid, I need the sequential file names so the pictures will sort correctly.

I did find a Work Around. What I do when I receive a folder full of pictures from another ios iPhone user, I copy all the photos as a batch from the PhotoStream folder into a free Windows program called "FastStone Photo Resizer" from www.FastStone.org. This program allows you to resize the photos as a batch to what ever size you wish. In my case I resize them to 2560 x 1440 which fills my 27" monitor and reduces the file size of each picture from 2MB or 3MB down to about 450 KB without degrading the picture as far as what you see on the screen.
This program will also within the same batch operation, allow you to sort the pictures by "Date Taken" which is the Date and Time the picture was taken. It gets this information from the EXIF data in the jpg file. This program will then rename the files with different numbering format options including date, time, alphanumberic and with just simple numbers starting at what ever number you wish to start with. I can get files that look like this again "IMG_0001.jpg" and have all the pictures in the correct order that they were taken. At this point, I save the pictures directly to a folder on my PC. The cool thing about this is, all the EXIF data is preserved as well. I can process a 100 pictures in less that 60 seconds. I hope this helps. For me, I can now live with this iCloud numbering defect.

I have a simple "hello world" web page.

In HTML it displays normally. As an IRPT it issues random characters at the start of the page display ï»¿.
The first line of an IE display of the "source" shows "ï»¿" (the quotes are something I added to delimit the text.

it looks like the file was created as UTF-8 encoded as unicode. The "ï»¿" characters represent a unicode byte order mark which is often used to mark files as being encoded in Unicode. (Wikipedia article ) Notepad on later Windows versions can correctly interpret Unicode encoded files, and sice the byte order mark (BOM) is not part of the text content, omits it from the displayed text.
Unicode incapable editors will not understand the BOM and thus display it as string content, which is where the "ï»¿" characters come from. It thus appears that the ServletExec IIS plug-in used to process files with the .irpt file extension does not process unicode files correctly. (ServletExec is not used to render .html files - IIS does this by itself).
This seems surprising since every other part of xMII seems to be Unicode capable... Does anyone have any experience with Unicode irpt files?
Is it possible that the irpt file is not actually Unicode but plain ASCII text? Such a discrepancy could cause problems when the ServletExec processor tries to interpret an ASCII encoded file as Unicode, but it does seem surprising...
Maybe would double-check the file encoding options of Dreamweaver to see if it's outputting UTF-8 or ASCII text... You could also try to remove the first three bytes of the file using a Hex editor and see if that fixes it.

Clear the cache and the cookies from sites that cause problems.

Acrobat adding random characters to file name

Every so often Acrobat will add random characters to a file name while re-creating a pdf. This has caused an issue with InDesign not recognizing a link needs to be updated due to the file having a new name. Any ideas why this occurs and/or solutions to make sure it does not?

Random characters displayed on preview and print

I am using Crystal Reports XI to create several reports for our users to run off our accounting system. On most computers the preview and printout is correct but on a few computers the text is displayed with random characters. We use several different printer models (mostly HP) and I was told from our accounting business partner that it is a problem with the print drivers.
At one point I thought the problem was with the Arial font so I changed to Times New Roman but I still have one user that is having trouble.
Most of the problems we have are with text headers not with the data itself, although I have see the entire report not print properly on a couple computers.
Is there any work around to have these reports print properly on all computer and printer combinations?

-Is the report using the same printer driver it was originally created with? Is this the latest printer driver?
-If you only see TTC font types, do you have this option selected? (Control Panel | Fonts | Tools | Folder Options | True Type Fonts Tab)
-Is the their any specific printer driver through which the report does not print correctly?

Yes, if both the Mac and iPad are setup using the same iCloud account, then any notes you enter on the Mac will be synced across to the iPad almost instantly.
Same occurs with the 1Password app I mentioned. If you have both the Mac and iPad versions of it, and setup either iCloud or Dropbox syncing, any passwords entered on the Mac will be synced to the app running on the iPad ready for copying and pasting. This would be the most secure method, but not the cheapest.

You have the MacBookPro6,2, the Edsel of Macs. It has a defective logic board that may be covered by this recall program:
MacBook Pro (15-inch, Mid 2010): Intermittent black screen or loss of video
Make a "Genius" appointment at an Apple Store, or go to another authorized service provider, to have the machine tested. The routine hardware diagnostics used by service providers do not detect the fault. There is a specific test for this issue.
Print the first page of the panic report, and the support page linked above, and bring them with you.
Note that the recall only applies within three years of purchase. After that, Apple may refuse the service. In that case, you may be quoted a price of about $300 (in the U.S.) for a "depot repair," which involves shipping the unit to a central repair facility and takes about two weeks. For that flat fee, anything found wrong with it should be fixed, not just the logic board.
The model was discontinued in February 2011, so the replacement program will be ending soon. Some units may have been sold by Apple as refurbished after that date.
Back up all data on the internal drive(s) before you hand over your computer to anyone. If privacy is a concern, erase the data partition(s) with the option to write zeros* (do this only if you have at least two complete, independent backups, and you know how to restore to an empty drive from any of them.) Don’t erase the recovery partition, if present.
Sometimes the replacement part is also defective, so be prepared for that possibility.
If it's too late for your unit to be repaired under the program, and you don't want to pay for a new logic board, you may be able to stop the panics by disabling automatic graphics switching.
*An SSD doesn't need to be zeroed.
