my friend had her ipod set on automatic update and some how she was still able to get music from my computer and put it on her ipod, well she had to get a new ipod because her other one had a hard drive issue. now that she has this new ipod it is on automatic update still but it wont let her take music from my comp like it did last time. is there some type of setting that im missing, its possible because it happened last time ( i didnt think it was possible) but now it just wont work, any suggestions please tell me

It's not possible to have an iPod on auto synch for more than one computer; she would need to put her iPod on manual update to get music off of your computer to her iPod.

Automatic Update Problem

Every morning I receive the following message "Sorry, your scheduled automatic update did not complete successfully because a connection could not be established. 4626." I When I disconnect the Treo from the changer, the phone then turns off and restarts again. I don't know what the automatic updated message refers to means and I don't know what I have set up for automatic update. the phone turning on and off again wastes minutes that I need! Any ideas? Thanks!
PS I noticed that this problem has appeared on other Palm devices but the advice in the other posts doesn't work for my Palm 700p device.

Funky automatic update problem

I've got a pretty weird proble happening with my ipod. When I want to plug it in to my computer through usb to update my songs or videos (I use the automatic update feature), the music is fine but my videos are automatically deleted from my ipod. The videos are in my itunes library, and they work fine on my ipod, but I end up having to reload my videos onto my ipod manually every time I want to put something new on it. Even weirder, 2 out of about 35 of my videos are not deleted from the ipod when this problem arises. The only thing I can think of that would mess up my ipod/itunes setup is that my dad just got a nano, and he manually updated it on my itunes so that he wouldn't have to mess with music on his pc. I can't think of why this would be a problem, since we have separate preferences chosen for the ipod and nano...but something's definately confused on either my itunes or ipod. And it is so weird that this problem doesn't affect 2 of my 35 videos. Any ideas?

Hello Leila and welcome to the Palm forums.
This is likely an error message from the My Centro application of the Palm Software (store) application. The problem is that one or both of these applications is waking up while you're asleep and trying to check for content updates (not really needed in my opinion) and the Internet connection on your phone is currently closed.
I don't use either of these applications on my Treo 755p (My Centro is called My Treo). If you launch these apps on your Centro, and then press the Menu button on your keyboard you should be be able to access the menu item that controls software updates and turn off the updates.
Other applications on your Centro may also be looking to check for updates. I would also check Pocket Tunes (pTunes) to see if it is looking for updates also.

After an automatic update, Firefox will start but immediately terminate. How can I fix this problem? I am sick and tired of manually un-installing Firefox!!

Since Firefox version 12, after Firefox automatically applies an update, Firefox will launch and immediately terminate.
The only solution is to manually un-install Firefox, completely clean the registry of Firefox entries, and manually re-install a previous version of Fiirefox that will work -- I use version 4.0. And then manually update that version to the current version.
I DO NOT install the new automatic update option -- that is, the automatic maintenance option.
BUT never the less, EVERY TIME I check for the latest version of Firefox using HELP --> About
Firefox, the UPDATE is AUTOMATICALLY RUN and FIREFOX WILL NOT WORK AGAIN.
I have put with this none sense for 18 versions of Firefox - MAKE IT STOP!!!!!!!

Can you bring up the Profile Manager to create a new profile (possibly when starting in Safe Mode by holding down Shift)?
Create a new profile as a test to check if your current profile is causing the problem.

I have not used iTunes for several weeks so the issue may not be related to the last Windows XP automatic upgrade. I have never had problems with iTunes in the past. Is this a real message or perhaps a virus?

Let's try a repair install of iTunes.
Restart the PC first.
If you're using Vista or 7, now head into your Uninstall a program control panel, select "iTunes" and then click "Repair".

Automatic check for Iphone update problem

Hello all,
My CMOS battery recently died, and I managed to boot the system with an invalid date in 2010. Itunes checked for updates and pushed the next automatic update date into 10/17/2010. I've since manually checked for updates, and updated the iphone, but would like to have the autocheck date set back.
A search using regedit didn't yield anything promising. Any suggestions?

I updated my iTunes today to 7.6 and now it is not recognizing my phone and totally messed it up. I had to use my computer with the old version of iTunes to get it back working. If you are using the new version of iTunes I think that might be your problem. The new version will not recognize my phone.

I have change the update policy values in the registry but still have one more problem:
I want to deploy JRE 1.6.0_05, in earlier versions ie 1.4 there has been a windows\sun\java\deployment where the initian deployment.properties file is located. But in the 1.6.X ther is no such folder and the deployment.properies file is still "copied" when you start ie "javacpl.exe" . I would like to disable the
choice "Download JRE automatically" in the javacpl.exe to "Never download..." but the initial choice when the file deployment.properties is created is "alway download..." .
Am I still save only with the registry key changes, or do I have to change the value in the deployment.properies and if so, where is the "original" copy that copies the file into C:\Document and Settings\[user]\Application data\Sun\Java\Deployment\

Try these steps to correct the problem, you need to be logged in as an administrator:
1. Go to the group policy editor. You can get they by typing gpedit.msc into the Run dialog.
2. Navigate to computer configuration->administrative templates->windows components->internet explorer.
3. Disable "make proxy settings per-machine (rather than per-user)".
4. Login with the user account and go to Internet Options.
5. Go to the Connection tab.
6. Click on the Lan Settings button.
7. You may notice that the proxy settings are not correct. Change the proxy settings to be whatever is required for your proxy.
8. Configure Java to use browser proxy settings.
9. Open the java console.
10. Set debug level to 5.
11. Press 'p' to reload proxy settings. Use the trace messages to verify correct proxy settings were loaded.

New to Mac- Problem with automatic updates

I have just bought a mac for the first time and have a hard time getting familiarized...
I bought it in june, installed Mac OS version 10.5.2 of which i had the cd and installed office mac 2008.
That s about all i installed so far.
Since the start however, i can not update anything because everytime the automatic update goes on and i start it, after a while it blocks saying the application word must be closed for continuing the updates. the only problem is that word is not opened...
what can i do? what does it come from? shall i redo the office installation? the os one?

Just let me get one thing clear- are you talking about the software update for apple (apple logo> software update) or the microsoft software update for office?

I have tried to install iTunes for the first time using the latest version and when I try to open it nothing happens. I have XP and I believe the automatic update install shield is blocking the installation of the program?? I do not have norton anti-virus and I have turned off the automatic update install in the control panel.

off in that other post, you described seeing a little yellow shield in your task bar. is that a Norton live update notification, or a Windows update notification? (i've seen it in my task bar too, but i can't recall off-hand which one of those it's signifying.)

I automatically updated to Firefox 4.0.1 for Mac, and now the program misbehaves. It hangs when I try to quit. Can I downgrade to 4.0?

I was running 4.0 on my Intel Mac (Leopard 10.5.8), and everything was fine. Firefox automatically updated me to 4.0.1. Then I noticed my computer running very slowly. I am unable to quite Firefox without forcing a quit.
Can I reinstall 4.0? If so, where can I download the original version?

Your users agent is stuck at Firefox 3.0.11 due to a extension during when you had 3.0.11 and it tacked on stuff on end and kept it from updating the version number. This was due to the "Fast Browser Search toolbar" extension (FBSMTWB). This issue is not a problem with Firefox 4.0 and newer.

In Pages 5, how to get date to automatically update upon opening a template?

I'm using Pages 5.2. In prior versions of Appleworks and Pages I was able to construct and save a template in which the date would automatically update to the current date when the template was opened. I have tried "Insert Date" and I can click on that to update to current date, but I don't always remember to do that and therefore, some of my documents are dated several months prior.
Can't seem to find how to do it under Pages 5.2 Anyone have help or a work around?

What confuses me is that all the apple provided templates in pages seem to auto update their time and date upon opening.
So there MUST be a way to do it... although I've been unable to work out how...
