Automatically Importing Photos from Finder to iPhoto '11

Hi there,
I save all of my photos to folders on my Drive. I'd like to set up my iPhoto '11 to automatically import photos from these folders to iPhoto each time I add a new photo, the way Picasa does. The only glitch is, I want to have the photos listed as Albums and not events. I was able to import my photos to iPhoto translating my folder names to Album names (using Automator) but am unable to get it to work automatically. Each time I add a photo to my folder on my drive, nothing happens...I would have to manually add each photo to iPhoto.
Help with keeping it automatic and keeping folders as Albums?

If the Automator action is working for you manually you can turn it into a Folder Action which will fire each time a new file is added to the folder.
When you create the Automator action there is a template to create Folder actions. Create  new action as a Folder action and add the you're Automator code to it.

All you need to do is select the photos and then drag and drop them on top of iPhoto to import them in.

  • Has anyone noticed how much slower it is to import photos from iphone to iphoto

has anyone noticed how much slower it is to import photos from iphone to iphoto in Mac OS.?

How many photos do you have in your iPhoto library? As your library grows, it will take more time to load when the app launches.Personally, I have not noticed any slowdown.
And my question was meant to find out whether you import process had gotten slower than...a year ago, a month ago, compared to other photo apps? Running Mountain Lion..since you upgraded? In the end..what? Hence, I asked.
Try being clearer next time. That way we don't have to beat around the bush when trying to help you.

  • Can I import photos from an old iPhoto library?

Can I import photos from an old iPhoto library on an external hard drive to my current iPhoto library?  The icon on the hard drive appears greyed out when I try via Import.

Open the older library and export the Photos from it to the Finder (File -> Export) and switch to the new Library and import those.
Or, use  iPhoto Library Manager to move the photos, plus all the versions and associated metadata to the new Library.

I imported photos from an old iPhoto (2001) to photo library and can now see them only as thumbnails but not when I click on them. The screen is black cannot see or print either. Is there any way to salvage those old photos? I now use iLife09. OS 10.6

Did you import the old iPhoto library into the new one? That's not what you want to do because you will import all of the original, modified and thumbnail files as if they were original files. Lots of duplicates and useless small photos.
Do you have a backup copy of the library that you imported into to?  If you do then bring it in and then use  iPhoto Library Manager to merge the two libraries into a new, 3rd library.
If you don't then you'll have to try to fix the current one and then cull out the duplicates and small useless photos as follows:  make a temporary, duplicate copy of your library and apply the three fixes in order as necessary.
    Fix #1
1 - delete the iPhoto preference file, com.apple.iPhoto.plist, that resides in your HD/User/Home()/ Library/Preferences folder.
2 - delete iPhoto's cache file, Cache.db, that is located in your HD/User/Home()/Library /Caches/com.apple.iPhoto folder.
3 - launch iPhoto and try again.
NOTE: If you're moved your library from its default location in your Home/Pictures folder you will have to point iPhoto to its new location when you next open iPhoto by holding down the Option key when launching iPhoto.  You'll also have to reset the iPhoto's various preferences.
    Fix #2
Launch iPhoto with the Command+Option keys held down and rebuild the library.
Select the options identified in the screenshot.
    Fix #3
Using iPhoto Library Manager  to Rebuild Your iPhoto Library
Download iPhoto Library Manager and launch.
Click on the Add Library button, navigate to your Home/Pictures folder and select your iPhoto Library folder.
Now that the library is listed in the left hand pane of iPLM, click on your library and go to the File ➙ Rebuild Library menu option
In the next  window name the new library and select the location you want it to be placed.
    Click on the Create button.
Note: This creates a new library based on the LIbraryData.xml file in the library and will recover Events, Albums, keywords, titles and comments but not books, calendars or slideshows. The original library will be left untouched for further attempts at fixing the problem or in case the rebuilt library is not satisfactory.
If this doesn't fix the problem you'll have to start over from scratch and create a new library from the files inside the Originals folder of your current library.  But first you should cull out the small photos that would be the thumbnails from the 2001 library.
Move the Originals folder to the Desktop, open and do a search for Kind=photo, File size is less than 10 KB.  That should find all of the thumbnail files which you can then drag to the Trash.  You might have to make that less than 50 KB. Then Import the remaining photos into a new iPhoto library.

  • Can't import photos from iphone to iphoto

I have an iphone 5 and so does my wife. We have an iMac with iphoto version 9.5.1. We have imported photos from our phones to iphoto many times without any problems. After we both updated our phones to iOS 8.1 iphoto will not recognize that our phones are connected to the computer. Finder also does not show that our phones are connected. iTunes still opens automatically and sync's with our phones, but I can't get any photos off our phones.
I have read several posts in the community and nothing has worked so far.
I do not see how to find my phone, or any other device, in the preferences in iphoto. iphoto does not automatically open any more when we connect our phones to the computer, but the preferences shows that iphoto should open any time a camera device is connected to the computer.
    Any ideas?

    Hi ..
You can use the Image Capture app located in your Applications folder to import photos from iOS devices to iPhoto.

  • Import photos from iphone to iphoto

I've been able to easily import photos from my iphone to iphoto by connecting my phone to the computer via USB cable.  However, it does not seem to be working.  I have the older version of iphoto (I believe it's version 9), and when I connect my phone it is not automatically asking if I want to import.  I've checked my preferences in iphoto, and have it set to open when a mobile device is connected.  When reading other posts similar to this issue it seems that there is a "device" section over to the left, which I do not have in my iphoto.  I know the USB cable is working because I can see my phone is connected to my itunes on my computer.  I would like to take my photos off my phone to free up some space.  Thanks!

  • Importing photos from Flickr to iPhoto

I've been using my Flickr Pro account to store all of my photos, and I'd like to get them synced/imported to my iPhoto 09. I've searched everywhere, but I can't find a way to do it. Is it possible to import photos from Flickr, or will I have to use a tool like Flump to download all of my Flickr photos, then make new sets in iPhoto?

  • The best way to import photos from Picasa to iPhoto

    Hi,
Many of my friends share their pictures online using picasa. Sometimes, I'd like to copy these pictures to keep a backup offline. As a software, I use iPhoto; not picasa. What is the best way to import pictures from picasa to iPhoto?
I first tried to subscribe to the RSS feed using iPhoto and then copy the pictures from there to my library, but then the dates of the pictures are set wrong: instead of indicating when the picture was shot, it indicates some other date (I guess it indicates the date when the picture was uploaded to picasa).
Then I decided to install the software picasa.app. From the webalbum of my friends, I could download the pictures directly to picasa.app. Then I exported them to the desktop, and from there imported them to iPhoto. The dates where set correctly, but I lost all the titles and comments of the pictures.
Do you have any method to download the pictures while keeping both the dates and the titles correctly?
    Thanx!

There is a direct option in Organizer which lets you import from iPhoto. This is under Import dropdown menu in left panel.
If you are importing from iPhoto'09, your Tags, Albums Events, captions, star rating would also get imported apart from your media. This works differently for iPhoto'011 where you can get only the media to the Organizer,
Just a couple of things to know:
    1. If in iPhoto preferences, you have chosen to create copies of your photos in iPhoto library and your library hence refers to the media store inside the library package, then on importing from iPhoto, Organizer would create copies of all those media under your pictures folder. That means, it would not corrupt your iPhoto package or modify it in any way.
    2. However, if in iPhoto, you are organizing by using references to original location on your Hard drive i.e. you are not creating copies of media in iPhoto library then on importing from iPhoto to Organizer, the Organizer would also use the same references and would not create copies of the media.
    Hope that helps!

  • Import photos from iPad to iPhoto keeping album structure

    Hi All,
I have an iPad 2 with a camera connect kit.  I've imported and organised several hundred photos using the kit and the iPad.  I just purchased a Macbook Pro and want to import those photos into iPhoto.  The photos all imported, but the album structure has been lost.  How can I import photos from my iPad into iPhoto (or some other application) while keeping the album structure?
    Thanks,

  • Can't finish importing photos from iPhone to iPhoto

I have about 2,000 pictures in my iPhone 4.
When I try to import my photos from iPhone to iPhoto Library, it stops importing after about 250 photos. Keeps saying 1,489 remaining(something like that) photos and the picture image on your iPhoto stops or freeze there. (Normally you can see what's importing into your iPhoto)
Tried rebooting the MacPro Tower and iPhone. My computer is up to date.
I was not sure if I had corrupted photo images, so I deleted bunch of photos around where iPhoto would stall.
I have no idea what's going on. Could someone please help me?
    Thanks,

Try use Image Capture (in your Applications Folder) to move the files to the Desktop and import from there.
