Automatically open raw files in camera raw

PLEASE READ the post before posting a reply as i may have already tried something you think might be the fix.
basics: latest version of all adobe CC 2014 products including bridge 6.1.0
win8.1
after i've imported raw files (either RW2 or CR2) it USED to be that when i double clicked on a file it automatically opened camera raw and then after my edits and i clicked OPEN IMAGE it would then open in pshop.
now they open in windows image viewer (sic)
SO
i went to EDIT>PREFERENCES and changed the specific camera files to open in pshop 2014. (as there's nothing that allows 'open in camera raw')
so now when i double click on a file in BRIDGE it opens PHOTOSHOP and THEN goes to Camera Raw 8.6
BUT...
i want to DOUBLE CLICK and open CAMERA RAW without going into pshop.
yes i know if i right click on the image it offers 'open in camera raw' which works, OR i can Ctrl+R and they open just fine,
but where can i set it so a double click (which is faster) does this automatically?
thanks in advance.

What kind of TIFFs?  Are they multi-layered, for instance?  ACR will not open layered files.

  • Problem with Photoshop CS6. If I open a file using Camera RAW

I have a new problem with Photoshop CS6.  If I open a file using Camera RAW, and process it as usual, CS6 doesn't want to save it the way it used to.  I don't know if I changed something by accident or not.
Here's what happens now: After opening from ACR to CS6 and completinhg all of my work, I choose "Save as..."  The save as window opens showing the file name and format.  The default format seems to be .PSD.  I use the drop down to select .jpg.  The file saves normally as a .jpg.  When I go to close the image from, I get a new prompt asking, "Save changes to Adobe Photoshop document DSC_xxxx.NEF before closing?
I looked up at the file name in the bar above the work space and noticed that it does NOT change from "DSC_xxxx.NEF" to "DSC_xxxx.jpg" after I have saved the file as a .jpg,in my webesite  but it always used to do that.  This adds a few extra steps when closing a document and it really slows me down.
In fact, I wouldn't swear to this, but I think it used to save to .jpg by default, without me specifying this.
I don't see a setting in the preferences for what to use as the default file format for saving, so I don't know where to change it back.
    Any ideas?
    Thanks in advance

I'm going back to cs4 after using cs6 and I can't open nef files in camera raw.

Each camera needs a specific camera raw version (ACR).  And each ACR is tied to a specific version of PS.  See this list http://helpx.adobe.com/creative-suite/kb/camera-raw-plug-supported-cameras.html

Hello, I have a Mac computer with NVIDIA 750M dedicated graphics card and monitor EIZO but the problem was there when I was working with Windows and Acer monitor. When I open a file from Camera Raw in PS this is smaller than the screen so I double-click with the tool "hand" to fit on the screen, but the picture loses sharpness and becomes blurry. If you magnify the image even only slightly with the tool "zoom" the picture comes back clear. In Camera Raw instead is always sharp. I solve the problem by turning off the graphics card in PS but often use plugin that need the graphics card otherwise the processing time is much longer. I ask for help.
    Thanks.

  • Installed PSE 8 and am now unable to access RAW files through Camera Raw.

Help! I have installed PSE 8 and
now cannot access Raw files through Camera Raw click
on Editor and the photographs open in Editor.
I have tried installing the upda
te 8bi in the plug-in and there was already a plug-in there.
PSE6 worked fine on this system. Any help appreciated.

Firstly thanks to the people who
offered help. This is what I did and somehow the problem is solved. I installed PSE 8 on my old machine with XP and an old Xerox monitor and it worked OK. I uninstalled PSE 8 from the newer machine on Vista. Made sure all the adobe files for pug-ins had gone then reinstalled. I then tested the screen resolution of my monitor a HP w1907v, smaller resolutions made no difference but opening it up to max did. When I wish to open a RAW file click open click the photograph and in the bottom file format box make sure you are asking for RAW files to be opened and 'bingo'. This upgrade for PSE 8 has the latest CameraRaw on it but the problem was there from the first installation so perhaps it is a combination of screen resolution and making sure the file format for opening is specified. So after hours of effort a satisfactory outcome. I probably confused the issue by installing the plug-in when there was no need. PSE 8 will last me a long time!!!

  • Why can I no longer open jpeg files in camera raw in CS2? The option is grayed out in Bridge

I was forced to download CS2 from the web after Adobe stopped allowing me to register it from my disks and now I can no longer open files in camera raw. Am I missing something?

As far as i know, photoshop cs2 and adobe bridge 1 (cs2) could not open jpegs or tiffs into camera raw, only camera raw files.
I believe photoshop cs3 was the first version to allow jpegs to be opened in camera raw.
Are you sure you had photoshop cs2 before?
If on the other hand, you can't open camera raw files that you used to be able to open, then you probably just need to update the camera raw plugin to version 3.7
    windows
Adobe - Photoshop : For Windows : Camera Raw 3.7 update
    mac
Adobe - Photoshop : For Macintosh : Camera Raw 3.7 update

  • Bridge (2.1.1.9) in CS3 10.0.1 won't open psd file in Camera Raw

Why is File/"Open In Camera Raw" greyed out when I try to open a psd file in Bridge?  It will open a jpeg file in Camera Raw.  Thanks

As far as I know it is not an option to open PSDs in ACR.
It has to be JPEG or TIFF. (Or raw of course!)

  • Open raw file into camera raw ?

Before I used Adobe Bridge to keep track of my photos, and that program has a function where you can right-click on a raw file and choose to open the photo in camera raw. I can't seem to find this function in Lightroom 1.3 Is it there some where ?

Yes, I do, and I just answered a similar a few hours ago.
You use "Import" to attach files to the LR catalog, as a general rule. You can, at least on a Mac, assign LR to open .crw files, for instance and it will import that way.
    I presume you're on a PC?

  • P65+ RAW files with camera RAW - Not yet

    Folks,
I'm just wondering if I'm alone here cos I can't find any mention anywhere online. Just had a shoot come in froma photographer (I'm in an ad' agency and we get all types of files from various photographers) shot on a P65+ back. The RAW TIFs are about 55MB each and when I bring them into to Photoshop or Lightroom to process the image to photoshop for retouch, it shows the four sensors from the camera back. You can just see it at this size, (client confiedential prodcut shoot I've had to blank out)
A close up shows the centre of the four sensors...
My workaround is to go back to CaptureOne and process the files to DNG, then bring them into Lightroom, but my DNGs become 110MB, twice the size the original RAW.
I know it's a fairly new digital back, but surely I'm not alone with this problem? Cos that would be really lonely ;-)

Correct...as far as I know, Phase still needs to get certain info out to Adobe in order to address the 4 quadrants. As I understand it, there are actually 4 "pipelines" of data being pulled off the chip. Think of them as arrayed data streams...none of them is gonna match "exactly" so Phase tucks calibration data in the file. Camera Raw can (as far as I know) read the data from a P 45+ so I don't think it's a question of if, but one of when...it didn't make the 5.4 update, maybe it'll make the next one (I don't actually know).
However, depending on the camera in use, you may indeed want to do the tiff > DNG conversion to take advantage of the Lens Correction capabilities of Capture One. I use a Phase 645 with Phase lenses that benefit from the DNG conversion.

  • Opening RAW file into Camera Raw (help please)

    Hi,
Brand new to Photoshop (free trial started 2 days ago) and am having significant difficulties with overall program.  One major issue is the ability to open my photos into the Camera Raw program.  One tutorial mentions to right click and convert it to Smart Object in order to launch the program but this does not seem to work for me.  It merely adds a small image into the corner and becomes a "Smart Object Thumbnail".  I don't use Bridge (heck, I don't even know what Bridge is!) and am merely opening up a file into Photoshop directly.
My images are in a raw format, does that make a difference?  Do photos have to be in jpegs to use that program?
    Thanks.

Photoshop is a professional level application that makes no apologies for its very long and steep learning curve.
Adobe Camera Raw (ACR) requires a lot of reading to master.
Raw files should automatically open in ACR when you double-click on them.  ACR can be hosted either by Photoshop or by Adobe Bridge, and the respective application will launch when you double click on the raw file and present you with your file open in ACR.
The purpose of ACR is to convert the raw file into something you can see and use.  Raw files are very, very dark gray-scale images with nothing a human eye can discern as color.
Forget about "Smart Objects" for now, that is something you will only be able to understand or use until you are proficient with Photoshop, many months or a couple of years from now if you are truly dedicated and take a Photoshop course at a community college near you.
You cannot open a raw file in Photoshop directly.  It has to be converted in ACR first.

  • Bridge CS4 won't open .NEF file in camera raw

It says because photoshop CS4 does not recognize this type of file. I've opened plenty of Nikon .NEF files in Bridge. The difference is this is a D90 file and I've been getting D80 files. Is there a patch for newer camera models?

On a Mac I don't know which directory it should be in.
Camera Raw preferences: Bridge: menu Adobe Bridge/ Camera Raw preferences.
Inhere you can set the wished behavior for tiff. By default it shows tiffs
only in ACR when you choose to do so with right mouse click menu (open in
Camera Raw) or if the Tiff had earlier been altered in ACR, then it opens
automatically in ACR unless you choose not to do so.

  • Cannot open JPEG files in Camera Raw from Bridge

I am using Adobe Web Premium CS3 with Windows Vista. In Bridge under File, the "Open in Camera Raw" is grayed out. In preferences, I checked "Double-Click Edits Camera Raw Settings in Bridge" and when I double-click a JPEG file it still opens in Photoshop CS3. I've downloaded and installed the latest Camera Raw plugin (Camera Raw.8bi dated 3/27/2008) into Program Files/Common Files/Adobe/Plug-Ins/CS3/File Formats. Nothing seems to work.

I am experiencing the same problem under XP SP2. It is intermittent. Everything will be OK and then the next time I open the folder Camera Raw is not available.
I just did a little experiment. I created a sub-folder in the folder that would not produce Cam Raw and moved a jpg to it. When I right clicked it in the new folder, Cam Raw was there as it should be. I moved the jpg back to the original folder that had the problem and Cam Raw opened in that folder too, but not on any of the other jpg's in that folder.
I moved all of the jpg's to this sub folder and back and Cam Raw was there on all the jpg's.
There is without a doubt some real flakies in Bridge. I also have workspaces saved that suddenly are not saved any more.
Hope this helps out your problem Donald. Oh, I am using web premium CS3 also
