Automator Variable and Find Finder Items

Hello!
I am creating a quick Automator file to grab any files within a folder and copy them to another folder. It prompts the user for a file name. I used this http://hints.macworld.com/article.php?story=20080213200213250 post to attempt a work around for the Find Finder Items not allowing a variable as an input. Any ideas how to get this to work?

Bit late but this came up tops when I was having the same issue.
You will find your created variable at the bottom of the workflow panel, from ther eyou can just drag them into the drop down menus.

Putting Variables in Action "Find Finder Items"

Hello! I'm using Automator to make a workflow. One of my action in my workflow is to find finder items. I'd like to tell Automator to find items that start with a specific string of text (the text is "016") stored in a variable. Since Automator does not allow me to insert a variable directly, I tried to add the variable by adding the variable's UUID. I followed the method outlined in this website:

But even after I put my variable's UUID as "$(9051E0AA-257F-4F00-9A58-50677FB0C07E)", it seems that Automator does not understand, as the results of the action "Find Finder Items" returned no files at all. I tried to store my string as "Storage" and "Text" and used the same method, but it still didn't work. Thank you very much!

I'm not sure what the action is using to search, but a name extension does not include the period. Another approach would be to get the entire contents of the memory card, and filter the items from there.

How my work will go
Step-1 - I am creating XML FIle which is based on code that we discused before-
Its developing xml file with data in <...inputelement> as u can see in my xml but in <..output> Element of xml its just have all column for exampe <itemoutput>

<FLD NM = "XYZ:> </FLD> --- for varchar2

In 1st stage i am just generating <..INPUT> with its colums and real value from database and <..output> elements will go zero value but with colums name.
Note. I create temp table will all COLUMN which u can see in both in <..ITEMINPUT> and <..ITEMOUTPUT>
Step2.. After Generaing my xml i want to convert my xml data into CLOB not in a file. so clob will go to the VENDOR
STEP3.
I will Recieved again xml data in CLOB from the vendo in <.OUTPUT> ELEMents
for example
I send this format

And i will receive it

So will take this output valu from xml clob and will update my staging table .
Which have the same colum name as its look in xml clob.
Step- 4. I will take this value from staging table and update my original oracle database table. which i send you before.
But u leave this step becaue you dont know the staging table colum maping with original table.

Automator 2.2 "Copy Finder Items" Action Error

Hello all,
When I try to create an Automator workflow that finds a type of file (pdf) in a nested folder structure and copies those files to another folder - essentially extracting the pdfs from their nested folders - I get an error message.
1) I use the "find Finder items" action. I specify the top-level folder and set the kind to "document"
2) It returns 56 items
3) I use "copy Finder items" action and specify a new folder
4) The copy action fails stating that a given file "couldn't be saved in the folder". It does not always error-out on the same file. Changing or creating a new folder doesn't help.
I have tried this under two user accounts with the same result. I have tried deleting preferences. The same error results.
Any ideas?
I am running 10.7.1 on a 15" MacBook Pro, early 2011.

I was having the same issue.
I found another solution: instead of copying files, you could move files.
1) Duplicate your original folder (unless you want to move/extract your files entirely to the new folder) (right click the folder and select duplicate)
2) Create a new folder as the destiny folder
3) Open automator and use the following actions (in order) on the workflow
- Find Finder Itens (browse to your source folder; select "any"; select "extension"; select "end with"; type "pdf") (you can do the same thing with the actions "get specified finder items" combined with "filter finder items")
- Get Folder Contents (and mark repeat for each subfolder found) (use this action if you have subfolders)
- Move Finder Itens (browse to your destination folder, that you created previously)
Now you can delete the duplicated folder.

Automator Find Finder Items

I have created an automator workflow to batch import photos into a document from within Word. The workflow works fine and has two processes:
Find Finder Items
Import Contents into Word Document
The problem is when i run this workflow from within Word the Find Finder Items dialogue box opens up behind Word. All i do is use Mission Control to select the dialogue box but it would be easier and more convenient if it just popped up at the front. Does anyone know how to add an action to automator to bring the window to the front?
P.S. I tested this from outside Word to make sure it wasn't specifically with Word. The same thing happened.

You need to use separate iCloud accounts. This will mean that you can both have your own separate contracts and calendars and put an end to them being deleted by each other.
Whether or not you have a separate iTunes account, is up to you. If you have a separate iTunes accounts you will not be able to access the music, books, apps that have been purchased by the other. This may be exactly what you want, but it also means that you both may end up purchasing the same item.

When I enter as a domain administrator, I can rename the directory.

Chnfind unable to find the decimal type by variable and sometimes "Round" command

2.) Still the problem with ChnFind() or ChnFindreverse(). If I change the Rounds off a number to the nearest integer with the function "Round()" it might not work in ChnFindreverse(). Such like it works under 4, 6, 8 and even 7 but doesn't work with 3 and 5. Is this logical?

If you couldn't open the TMD file. Please remove ".tdv" the attacments file name to make sure it is "ChnFind.tdx" but not "ChnFind.tdx.tdv".

I downloaded the files and was able to get it to work. It looks like when you format the minimum value to a string, you loose precision and then ChnFind doesn't find the value your are looking for. He is an example which worked for me :
Set oChnY = Data.Root.ChannelGroups(2).Channels("Right")
sgValue = str(oChnY.Properties("minimum").Value,"d.ddddddddddddddd")
Index = ChnFindReverse("Y<="&sgValue,,Array("Y"),Array(oChnY))

Using symbols (parameters 3 and 4) is not necessary to get the solution. The key is teh second value for "str" which formats using more digits. As soon as you reduce the number of digits, you may no longer get a result.
Ther is an alternative to ChnFind, in case there is only one occurance in teh signal which has the minimum value
Set oChnY = Data.Root.ChannelGroups(2).Channels("Right")
Index = PNo(oChnY,oChnY.Properties("minimum").Value)

Most scanners default to Pictures folder or the Desktop.
If you select All My Files and Arrange by Date Added you should be able to find the file.
If you turn on Show Path bar and Show Status bar for your Finder Window under View in the Menu bar, when you select the file you will see the path of the file in the bottom of the Finder window.

Finding and selecting (ticking) items in one shot in ZSDE_DNP - SAP SD

HT2905 No Display Duplicates under File. How to find and remove duplicate items in your iTunes library

I now have iTunes ver 11.0.4.4 under Windows 7. I lost all iTunes stuff when updating to Windows 7. I have loaded thousands amd thousands of music files from backup disks, but there are many duplicates. I am attemping to re-establish my old library. I used to be able to remove duplicates quickly with the old iTunes. The new iTunes doesn't seem to offer the same service. Is there any way to remove duplicates quickly, or must I do it one by one?

When deduping use Shift > View > Show Exact Duplicate Items as this is normally a more useful selection. You need to manually select all but one of each group to remove. Sorting the list by Date Added may make it easier to select the appropriate tracks. If you have multiple entries in iTunes connected to the same file on the hard drive then don't send to the recycle bin. Use my DeDuper script if you're not sure, don't want to do it by hand, or want to preserve ratings, play counts and playlist membership. See this thread for background and please take note of the warning to backup your library before deduping.

Automator Action "Find Finder Items" bug...

Hello,
I created an application that searches SD flash memory cards (out of a Canon video camcorder) that are formatted FAT32 for files that have a .MOD extension and copies them to mounted server volumes for transcoding to .MOV (to later use in an editor). Most memory cards work with the "Find Finder Items" action item returning the whole contents of the SD card volume's MOD files. Other SD cards return no result even though the files are clearly visible to Finder when you manually look for them. When I run the workflow, it does the search and returns nothing without an error to the app. Any suggestions as to why some SD cards are different in this regard? Thanks!

I'm not sure what the action is using to search, but a name extension does not include the period. Another approach would be to get the entire contents of the memory card, and filter the items from there.

Finding Order Lines with only top model and no child items

Can you please help me in finding out the Order lines which are having only top model and no child item and the lines total is zero. I framed a query for this but it takes too long time to retrieve such lines. the query is:

You can try including the condition top_model_line_id is not null. I think that would make the query faster because it would allow the use of an index. The query would look like:
select top_line_id, header_id,flow_status_code ,line_type_id

I am having a hard time trying to figure out how to find and remove duplicate items under the New iTunes 11? Its not as user friendly as in previous versions. Does anyone know how to figure this out?
