Awful GPS on Nokia E6

Dear Nokia Team!
If you are reading this please do something with the integrated GPS. Why did you include in the phone if it doesn't work. At least if it's a need in time to get the positioning then tell me how much time does the GPS need to get the position. Please fix the problem cause otherwise why did i pay money for this phone.
Please reply!
Thank you!

@Unix
Whereas there are inevitable compromises in GPS antenna size position within candybar form factor unfortunately E6 follows trend started in both E71 & E72 of being particularly feeble when reliant solely upon Integrated GPS.

  • Problem with GPS on Nokia 5800

Some days back i had big problem in getting GPS work to get my current location. I followed some intsturctions provided by one of the forum members and it seems to have worked.
Now the problem is, even when i am in the open area where satellite status  shows more than 5 available, i am unable to get a lock on my current position. Instead i get "GPS works poorly on indoors..." message. My mobile is still under warranty. Should i need to go and check with Nokia Care center? or is this could a confiugration problem?
i have Assisted, Network and integrated enabled and have GPRS enabled.
Any help would be realy apprecieated
Not to mention, i am on 4x firmware with latest Maps software and also have downloaded India Maps using maps downloader
    Cheers

    Hi KarthikK
This message sounds as if device can't communicate with the "Positioning server" so I would check that it is "supl.nokia.com" and confirm in Destinations > Internet that your desired network access point is prioritized.
Latest Nokia Maps v3.04Beta also utilizes an additional positioning method, Wi-fi/Network to speed up positional fix especially indoors as per screenshot:http://i43.tinypic.com/2mrcq68.jpg

  • Problem with GPS in Nokia 5800

I'm in Nokia Maps, I click in "my position" and it shows me the red dot in south of Portugal (Algarve). Well, that would be cool if I were there, but I'm not! I'm in the north (Braga). I want to connect via sattelite and not via internet, cause I want to use it when I'm driving. Can somebody help me?

    Hi gui94
If you won't give the Assisted GPS feature a network internet connection albeit to download 7 kb of data then your first fix is going to take longer to achieve and would suggest you go outside away from tall buildings preferably with clear view of sky.
The position achieved using the Network GPS (cell tower location) can sometimes be well off the mark unfortunately but not usually by that much and then you will get a "Black ring" around the centre when locked on to position at which time you will see next to satellite icon green bars instead of yellow.

  • How to use GPS on Nokia E65

i am unable to use GPS on my Nokia E65. can u please tell me how i can use GPS on my mobile fone. secondly tell me does it coast some thing

Depending on your software version Nokia maps can be used as a GPS programme. With the latest Version 2.0633.65.01 Nokia maps is included as a standard menu item.
Your other option would be to buy a Garmin Mobile XT pack which includes maps and navigation. Depending on your gegion the price will vary.
The E65-1 does not have a built in GPS receiver therefore you will also need to purchase a one. Nokia's LD-3W works well and is not that costly.
Lastly Nokia maps will cost you as it needs to be activated for full navigation functions. Once again this will depend on your region.

Nokia 701 Helping with Lumia 800

    Hi Briant566 ,
We must consider a mechanical error in my opinion? It only takes a little bit of corrosion to cause a 'bad connection' of the GPS satellite antenna in the phone. We are not allowed to discuss do-it-yourself hardware repairs in the forum, so I can only suggest have a qualified technician take the phone apart to clean everything and make sure all parts are in good condition.
I hope you get it sorted out.

  • GPS on Nokia N85 in English

I'm currently living in Israel and have a Nokia N85 which has GPS in Hebrew. Can anybody tell me how I get GPS in English. It is possible because I have had it in the past but can't work it out now. I have to drive alone to Jerusalem tomorrow and need to know before then if possible.

Do you mean the Voice Guidance or the actual text? For the text, you need to set your phone language to English. For voice guidance, go to Maps>Settings (the wrench/spanner icon)>Navigation>Drive/Walk Navigation>Select English

  • GPS /MAPS Nokia n95

    Hey, I Got N95,
My MAPS And GPS Ect Dont Seem To Be Picking Upo Anything, They Just Ask For Bluetooth even when i connect to my WLAN nothing happens?
Do i need to download anything?
    Thanks.
    Josh

    Hi joshdaw
I don't think that your mate reformatted phone before giving it to you and it still has some of his chosen settings rather than default one's, as it sounds as if device looking for an external GPS rather than using internal one of your N95.
If you go to Menu > Tools > Settings > General > Personalization - now scroll down to bottom of screen and below "Factory settings" there is "Positioning" - in "Positioning methods" there should a red tick beside Assisted GPS, Internal GPS and Network based. In default setitngs there is NO tick beside Bluetooth GPS.
You would also need to define an Access point for Nokia Maps albeit either your GPRS network connection or WLAN.

I don't know about GPS receiver.... According to some other expert suggestion, I need external GPS receiver which is one gadget which use to access GPS via Bluetooth of phone
I am developing a J2ME GPS based app & I am new in the GPS development field. For app testing purpose I want to connect my 5130 to GPS. I saw the specification of 5130 in that GPS & Location API(JSR 179) is absent that means my phone will not access GPS??
Is there any possibility to add Location API or GPS in my phone??

    @Boesfx
    Welcome to the forum!
Sorry for being pedantic but is your phone C6-00 or C6-01 as former is S60 5th Ed. and latter Symbian Anna OS?
For C6-00 this is useful Nokia resource:http://www.nokiausa.com/us-en/support/product/c6-00/userguide/?action=onlineuserguidepagechange&pFil...
For C6-00 Try going to Menu > Applications > Location > Positioning > Positioning methods - disable all except Integrated GPS, go outside away from tall buildings if feasible launch Ovi Maps and wait 20 - 30 minutes for device to obtain first positional fix.
For C6-01 Try going to Menu > Settings > Application settings > Positioning > Positioning methods - disable all except Integrated GPS, go outside away from tall buildings if feasible launch Ovi Maps and wait 20 - 30 minutes for device to obtain first positional fix.
Be warned however that relying solely on Integrated GPS can be a disappointing user experience due to compromises in GPS antenna size/shape within a mobile phone compared to stand alone sat-nav unit.

  • Nokia C7 with no GPS after Nokia Belle refresh (11...

    Hi all,
Before install this last firmware, my C7 GPS was working perfectly. With Nokia maps 3.09, LeGPSData2 or GPSInfoQt.
The phone was updated through FOTA. Now, the GPS antenna doesn’t capture any signal, even after leaving the phone for a long time outside with a clear sky.
I tried to install again Nokia maps, installed nokia maps suite 2.0, updated to the latest Nokia PC suite and installed again the same firmware using an usb cable, but nothing could solve my problem.
Activating or deactivating the assisted GPS didn’t help.
When running the LeGPSData2 app, it keeps searching for a signal, but it never finds one. Even with A-GPS and mobile data on, small red bars appear, saying that have several (11) satellites in view, but it can’t fix even one.
There is any diagnostic tool I can run to check if this is a SW or HW problem?
    Please help me!
*note; removed mention of software not publically available.

I seem to have developed this issue also. As a Nokia owner and 'fanboy' since about 1998 I'm most disappointed.
My GPS was last working definately in October as I used it to log participation at an event with Sports Tracker.
I know I applied an update since then (I believe I was on the original Belle in Oct, but I seem to remember applying an update since then which was probably the 'refresh').
Interestingly, if I have network on, the phone in Nokia or Google Maps will get a position, but will not connect to any satellites. Attached is screenshots showing results in Nokia Maps, Google Maps, LEGPSData2 AND Garmin XT. In LEGPSData2 and Garmin it appears that it can see some satellites as there are some shown, but it is not determinig a position for some reason.
Garmin and Sports Tracker will not get GPS data. Just says trying to connect to satellite.
Google appears to cycle between the following three statuses over and over in the top right with GPS enabled:
    Initialising GPS...
    Seeking GPS Satellites (0)...
    GPS active (0)...
I've tried a reinstall with Nokia Suite and reset with *#7370#. Nothing seems to allow it to get a working connection. What more can I do? I wanted to try a downgrade, but believe this will brick the phone, and I don't want to do that and I don't want to have to replace my phone as I'm happy with my C7 and if it's going to cost me money, I may as well just go with a new phone which will likely not be another Nokia in that case.
It's most disappointing not to be able to use Sports Tracker and my Heart Rate Monitor that I invested in now that I have found the time to get back into cycling again...
    Help appreciated.

  • Using GPS with nokia N95

Hello.Does anybody know if I save all the maps on the memory card(8GB),do I still need internet conection?I want to travel in few countries in Europe so I got to know.Thank You.

No, provided that you have all necessary map data and licneces on the phone, you do not need to make a connection to the internet as you travel.
To ensure no connection is made:
    (1) In Nokia Maps, go Options>Tools>Settings>Internet>Go online at statup>No
    (2) In the phone itself, go Menu>Tools>Settings>General>Positioning>Positioning methods and swtich off Network-based and A-GPS.

  • Handheld GPS for Nokia N8

    Hello,
I have a Nokia N8 and would like to know if there is any free or commercial software to turn the phone into a powerful GPS handheld. I am not looking for a navigation software .
    Thank you in advance.

I'm not sure ANY phone can do what you are looking for.
Both Nokia and Android I know provide electronic maps, for both navigation and saving tracks (if by tracks you mean the routes you've walked past). Google Maps has plug-ins that allow you to measure distances between two areas, and so does Ovi Maps (a straight line distance calculation via Walk mode).
However please note that I am not sure I understand your english, but what I understand when you say "mapping" is that you want to make/chart your own maps, which is not possible on Nokia.
It is difficult to state if it can do what you want basically because you dont list down features that you want. Obviously though, phones cannot compete really with the real things (a phone cannot completely replace a mobile computer, a digital camera or a true GPS device like what you are looking for), but they can also do a number of features. Saying only "mapping" and "make like a handheld GPS" is quite vague. It can do some features of a handheld GPS, but you have to elaborate on what exact features you need for us to answer what applications you need on either a Nokia or a Droid to help you.
