Azure Virtual Machine cannot connect to Internet addresses following update on 8/7/2014

I've got a Windows Server 2012 virtual machine running in Azure that prior to system updates that were rolled out last week could connect to Internet addresses such as Yahoo.com without issue. I do not currently have any virtual networks configured for this
Azure tenant nor have I modified any of its network settings, so the VM was making the connections with its default network configuration. On August 7, 2014 I rebooted the virtual machine to apply some required system updates to the operating system, and following
that reboot the VM could not longer connect to the Internet. I am able to lookup domains in DNS, but cannot ping those domains from the command line or open web sites via a browser.
I've released its IPconfig via the command line and rebooted the server multiple times, both from within a remote desktop connection and from the Azure Management Portal, but these actions have not resolved the issue.
Are there additional configuration steps I need to take to reconnect this VM to Internet sites, or has something changed which requires me to make further changes?
Thank you,
John

Just to close this out, I've been able to resolve the issue. It looks like somehow a Windows Update changed the proxy server settings in Internet Options on the server, and that was preventing traffic from successfully leaving the server. Once I removed
that setting, the issue was resolved.

    Hi,
I update my system a few day ago (use systemd to replace rc.d) and I cannot connect internet. I guess my router table is broken, but I cannot find any problem.
I use ping to try some IP. And I find I connect to local machine only.
Do I miss some configuration ?

    I have 2 network interface.
The eth1 is for test only. It is connected to a 8 port LAN switch, and there are 2 NAS connected to this switch.
I use eth2 to connect to internet, for example, update system. I try to disable eth1, but it is still not work.

  • Cannot connect to internet after software update

I have an old powerbook G4 running Mac OS X 10.3.9 (this is one of 3 macs) I also have an airport Extreme and an airport Express to make a network in my home. Frequently, after a software update to the old computer, it has trouble getting back on to the internet. Usually, adjusting access to the Keychain fixes this.
Now, after a software update last week--I cannot get on the internet with this computer at all. The computer is connected to the network, the password is in the keychain, the signal is strong (all of the other computers can get on to the network)--but whenever I try to get on, I get 'cannot connect to the server'.
(btw, Last evening, the issue resolved itself for about 3 hours--I don't know why--but today it is out again.) Can anyone help?

Hi, Rathh. Always use Disk Utility to repair permissions immediately after installing any software update that uses Apple's Installer application, or that is installed by the Software Update function accessed through the Apple Menu.

  • Our HDB tool  just stopped connecting to the Azure virtual machine

Our HDB tool just stopped connecting to the Azure virtual machine while it is working fine on AWS. The error we are getting is:
"HDB -system state cannot be determined. Database connection is not available."
    Any suggestions/comments from the community?
    Thank you
    Koushik

    Update as promised.
I just went ahead and created a new VM.  All is good!!!!
    Server 2012 (Datacenter)
Downloaded and installed SQL Server 2012 Standard (Basic install only need the DB engine)
Configured for mixed mode, etc.  (I did not need to change anything after the install was done)
Opened endpoints and VM firewall ports
    Tested and worked as expected
Then went ahead and installed IIS, Web Deploy and updates.
All is working as expected.  Not sure what I messed up the first go around.
If anyone comes across this and the docs don't help, just try to set up a new VM (either SQL or Server and install SQL).

  • SQL Azure with Azure Virtual Machine inside Virtual Network - How to connect

    Hi Team,
I have one typical scenario where there is one Windows Application I wan to run from my Windows Azure Virtual Machine which is inside Azure Virtual Network (which has its DNS and ADFS and etc..)
Because its Virtual Network, We can't access internet within that network, apparently Virtual Machine can't access SQL Azure. So, How would we resolve this scenario.
Application is running great from my local system so, its accessing SQL Azure Database from my system. So, Application or SQL Azure or connection or such areas has no issue.
    Regards, Brijesh Shah

    Hi Brij,
    Thanks for your reply.
To add a DNS server in an Azure Virtual network, you can refer to the link below:
    http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/azure/dn275925.aspx
To obtain a public Azure-provided DNS server IP addresss, you can run "ipconfig/all" in another Azure VM which is not a virtual network which has DNS server defined. After you add a DNS server in the virtual network that VM belongs to, please restart
the VM to update the change.
However, since you mentioned that you are using a customed domain, I am not quite sure if any other configuration should be done for your domain.
    Best regards,
    Susie

  • Cannot connect to internet in Solaris 10 OS.

I setup X4500 running solaris 10 OS. But, I cannot connect to internet. I do not understand whats wrong with that. When I ping google or any other site from X4500 its not transferring any packets. I can ssh it from a remote computer. So, running fine on the network. I have a static IP for that. Could someone please help me with this.
    Thank you

Can you ping your own default gateway's IP address?
Can you traceroute to a public IP address like forums.sun.com (72.5.124.102)?
Can you use nslookup to resolve hostnames to IP addresses?
Does your /etc/resolv.conf have lines like:
    nameserver 192.168.0.10
Where 192.168.0.10 is the IP address of your local DNS server(s)?
Did you copy /etc/nsswitch.dns over /etc/nsswitch.conf before trying to reach websites?
I hope investigating these questions help.

  • Azure virtual machine not discovering

We created our back-up vault yesterday. Agents have been installed without any problems. Vault/Virtual machine/storage is all in the same region but it doesn't seem to find any azure virtual machines.
    Regards,

    Hi PCSKnokke,
Are the VMs in a healthy state? If yes, I can look up in the backend to see what is going on. If you can share some information about the VM (name, region) then I can look this up. If you cannot share this information on a public forum, please direct-message
    me on Twitter (@AzureBackup).
Meanwhile, there are issues that we are fixing and perhaps the problem you are facing will get resolved in one of the hotfixes that we will do. Let's investigate anyhow.
    Regards,
    Aashish
Added everything to the same subsription and tried it again. Now it seems to work. Could it be that if you use multiple subscriptions (VM on one subscription, backup vault on other subscription) that this doesn't work?

  • Got a new computer, just downloaded i-tunes and such all over again. Now wanting to watch a movie and Apple TV is saying "cannot connect to internet"

We're trying to watch a movie using our Apple TV. It is saying "cannot connect to internet?"  WE thought it was because we just got a new computer, so i went through the process of downloating i-tunes all over again...yet we still have the problem. ??? PLease help

    Linda
    What exactly has changed?
    Just the computer, other things?
More information on your actual setup is needed -  Particularly how things are connected on the local network and to each other.
In theory the new computer should not affect Apple TV's ability to rent and play a movie if the rental was made on the AppleTV itself.  The problem may have nothing to do with the new computer unless changes have been made on the router to let it connect and it's caused AppleTv to disconnect, or the PC has been assigned the AppleTV's IP address which is no longer available to AppleTV hence it thinks it's lost connection.
Try powering off the router, restarting and see if the AppleTV internet connection returns. Restart AppleTv too if needed. Check any ethernet cable connections or wi-fi settings on AppleTV if it doesn't re-establish the internet connection.  By the way an ethernet cable plugged into AppleTV will disconnect it's wi-fi connections.

  • Forgot Azure Virtual Machine Password

    Hi Team,
I have forgot the Azure VM password and unable to connect the machine through RDP. Please help me so that I can connect with my VM. This is an urgent issue please help me. Thanks in Advance.

    Hi,
You can follow these steps to reset the existing built-in local Admin credentials on Microsoft Azure virtual machines using Windows PowerShell and the Microsoft Azure PowerShell Module.  Note that this process will also ensure that Remote Desktop is enabled
    within the Microsoft Azure VM.
    >>In the Windows PowerShell ISE window, run the following PowerShell cmdlet to confirm the name of your Microsoft Azure subscriptions (if you have more than one subscription).
    Get-AzureSubscription | Format-Table –Property SubscriptionName
You’ll be specifying the name of your selected subscription in the next step.
    >>In the Windows PowerShell ISE window, run the following PowerShell cmdlets to select your Microsoft Azure subscription (if you have more than one subscription).
$subscription = “ENTER YOUR SUBSCRIPTION NAME HERE”
    Select-AzureSubscription –Default $subscription
    >>In the Windows PowerShell ISE window, run the following snippet to prompt for the credentials to which you’d like to reset the existing built-in local Admin user account inside the virtual machine.
$adminCredentials = Get-Credential -Message "Enter new Admin credentials"
If the existing built-in local Admin username is input, the snippet below will reset that account to use the specified password.  If a new username is input, the snippet below will also rename the existing built-in local Admin account to match the specified
    username.
The password that is input when prompted above must meet password complexity requirements of at least 3 of the following: 1 UPPER case letter, 1 lower case letter, 1 number and/or 1 symbol.  Note that if the password does not meet complexity requirements,
the snippet below will still succeed - the password complexity requirements are not checked until after the VM restarts and the VM Agent is leveraged to apply the new password.
    >>In the Windows PowerShell ISE window, run the snippet below to reset the built-in local Admin credentials for the selected Azure virtual machines.
    (Get-AzureVM) |
Where-Object -Property Status -EQ "ReadyRole" |
    Select-Object -Property Name, ServiceName |
    Out-GridView -Title "Select a VM …" -PassThru |
    ForEach-Object {
        $VM = Get-AzureVM -Name $_.Name -ServiceName $_.ServiceName
        If ($VM.VM.ProvisionGuestAgent) {
            Set-AzureVMAccessExtension -VM $VM `
                -UserName $adminCredentials.UserName `
                -Password $adminCredentials.GetNetworkCredential().Password `
                -ReferenceName "VMAccessAgent" |
            Update-AzureVM
            Restart-AzureVM -ServiceName $VM.ServiceName -Name $VM.Name
        } else {
Write-Output "$($VM.Name): VM Agent Not Installed"
Let’s look at each line from the snippet above in a bit more detail …
First, Get-AzureVM is used to enumerate the existing VM’s that are provisioned in the selected Microsoft Azure subscription. We can only reset the built-in local Admin credentials on Running VM’s, so we pass this output to a Where-Object filter to return just
the list of VM’s that are currently in a ReadyRole state.
We pipe this filtered list of running VM’s to the Out-GridView cmdlet. This cmdlet prompts to select the VM’s for which the built-in local Admin credentials should be reset.
Finally, the selected VM’s are piped into a ForEach-Object block that resets the built-in local Admin credentials for each selected VM using the Set-AzureVMAccessExtension cmdlet. This block also restarts each selected VM using the Restart-AzureVM cmdlet, so
    that this change is processed.
    Hope this helps !
    Regards,
    Sowmya

    Wi-Fi Setup Considerations
Things to consider before you begin
Start with a plan for the physical layout. Depending on whether you have an existing Wi-Fi network, or if you are using your AirPort Express as a standalone Wi-Fi device, there are several options available for you to choose from.
When using Ethernet, Cat6 cable is recommended.
The layout you choose should take into account environmental factors such as physical access, location, range, radio frequency interference, etc.
You will need to consider what AirPort Utility settings to adopt.
You will need to know whether you are using an AirPort Express (802.11b/g) or an AirPort Express (802.11a/b/g/n).

  • ITunes cannot connect to Internet and iPad backup takes Forever

Hi, I have a workstation, high end Windows 7, PC, everything works perfect except the iTunes.. here's my story:
iTunes cannot connect to internet, nor can iTunes Store. I tried "Run Diagnostics" from Help menu, it showed "internet connection verified" green light BUT "Secure link to iTunes Store Failed" Red Light.
Then I thought, lets check other Apple App, Safari.. which couldn't load google for a long time and didn't even show any error, anyway, so I quit and uninstalled it.
I connected iPad for backup, it started all fine. At "Step 2 of 7" backing up, the loading/copying bar came half way up and stayed there for more than 20 hours. So, I quit that too. (Maybe, this is a different problem or connected, im not sure.)
I also checked the setting in Norton Firewall and made sure iTunes was allowed full access. Internet is working perfect in all the other applications, even "Apple Software Update" is working fine, checking for updates and everything. I have latest version of iTunes by the way.
THEN, I uninstalled everything Apple, left no trace of Apple in Program Files, and reinstalled iTunes. STILL SAME PROBLEM!!! Can anybody help? What could've happened, 'coz it used to work just fine before.
    Thanks Guys!

    start itunes.
    update podcasts - no response.
click on store - no response.
use diagnostics for connectivity - no response.
sometimes, when i stop itunes from trying to connect, i will get an error code 11222
