B85-G43 overclocking i5-4570K ?

What is the situation with overclocking (by adjusting multiplier) "K"-line CPUs on B85-G43 ?
Is it possible ?
Does it depend on BIOS version or CPU's production date ?
I want to buy B85-G43 with i3-4130 but change it in the future to some i5-4...K
There is a lot of videos and tests showing that OC is not impossible on MSI B85-G43, however Intel says that b85 chipsets do not allow any overclocking.

The updated microcode from Intel was released around Aug 2013. You will see that most boards had a BIOS update around that time stating a microcode update. Some BIOS prior to that are still on the ste and certain manufacturers actually still have those marked as being able to OC
Problem with reverting to an older BIOS like that, it may introduce bugs in other areas that have been fixed in subsequent releases.
If you want to OC, get a Z board. There are m-ATX and ITX boards with Z chipsets and they do as well in OC'ing as the more expensive boards due to the thermal limitations of Haswell that usually kick in long before the limits of OC have been reached.

  • B85-G43 OC - possibile ?

    Hi all !
Recently I bought a motherboard MSI B85-G43. I thought I was doing good business, because I read on many technical sites and watched many video presentations about the OC possibilities  on this MOBO. At one big Polish portal benchmark.pl , i saw ensuring (2013-07-23) :
    Quote
W odpowiedzi na doniesienia o aktualizacji mikrokodów (mającej zablokować możliwość przyspieszania procesorów na płytach bez chipsetu Z87), producent uspokaja swoich klientów i zaleca częste uaktualnienia BIOS-u – podobno będą one stale oferować nową funkcjonalność.

In response to reports of a microcode update (having the ability to lock the CPU acceleration on non Z87 chipset motherboards without), the manufacturer reassures its customers and recommends frequent updating BIOS - apparently they constantly offer new functionality."   about microcode update, and that MSI will support this functionality in future
I think I made a mistake because I have not found the most important information :

What should I do at this point?  I bought the i5 4670K, and I dont have OC option. Is it possible to upload the appropriate BIOS that unlocks the ability to multiplier oc, and adjust CPU ratio, ratio mode ? Can I somehow download appropriate BIOS ?
    Sorry for my bad English.

All right - Intel prohibits overclocking options on H87 or B85 - right ?
But this not explain my questions...
    Hi,
I have found a link for you, which explains ALL the things..
    http://www.pugetsystems.com/labs/articles/Z87-H87-H81-Q87-Q85-B85-What-is-the-difference-473/
    ====EDIT====
Or to make it easier for you:
"The Z87 chipset is the most feature-rich chipset and is the only one to offer full CPU overclocking for supported (K-series) processors. This chipset can easily handle SLI/Crossfire configurations by allowing the 16 PCI-E lanes from the CPU to be divided into either a single x16 slot, dual x8 slots, or a single x8 plus two x4 slots. While this means that the Z87 chipset can support triple SLI/Crossfire configurations, we typically recommend against doing so except in isolated circumstances. In most cases a Socket 2011 system is a better option as the additional PCI-E 3.0 lanes will provide improved performance.
The B85 chipset is the "budget" business option and as such is very limited compared to the other business chipsets. As such, it does not support iSIPP or vPro. Like the Q85 chipset, it has four SATA 6Gb/s ports compared to the six found on Q87. The B85 chipset is a good option for systems that need only basic functionality without the various features found in the other business chipsets."

    Svet, thx for replying.
I'm a noob here and have some doubts about this steps...
1.) >>Use the MSI HQ Forum USB flasher<< (Ok got it.)
A.) Download the attached archive and place it on your desktop. Do not decompress. (Ok got it)
B.) Download and install the Forum flash tool. (MSI HQ Forum USB flasher?)
C.) Insert your FAT32 formatted usb stick. (Ok got it)
D.) Make sure that all win 8 options are disabled. (Fast Boot etc) Also make sure the legacy USB is enabled. (win 8 options??? i'm running on a win7 ultimate 64bit)
E.) Start the forum flash tool and select option 1. Then point the tool at the compressed archive we downloaded earlier. Then to your USB Flash Drive. (Ok got it.)
F.) Boot to the USB and follow the directions. MEMTEST is included with the forum flash tool and it is recommended to run this prior to any flash. (ok got it, change boot sequence to USB and follow the directions.)
Yeah i know a lot of doubts, sorry for that, Working all day and at night i have to go to the university.
    Thank you for your time!!!

  • B85-G43 OC problems on G3258

    Hello everyone,
I just bought my MSI B85-G43 mobo and Intel pentium G3258 processor and im not able to oc it? I have updated bios v.3.8 and multipler option in Bios is still blocked on x32, cant increase it : (
It is any solution to help me with it?
Sorry for my bad english btw.

I wonder how it is with stability, as simple running is not enough
Get intel burn test run few times (5 enough) on max threads, then Prime95 for 6h or more (more for best answer about "OC") and then feed back about it
Quite surprised it works, but then this Pentium is simple unlocked version of the old one, so that might be the case it works? Nothing improved but unlocked it..
Anyways enjoy, maybe it will work fine so you don't have to bother with Z series board

  • MSI B85-G43 and i5-4460

    Hello
I'm planing to buy a new computer set with that motherboard MSI B85-G43 and i5-4460. On official MSI site I read Haswell-Refresh processors
are supported from Bios v3.7. There is my question here. Will the i5-4460 boot with a MSI B85-G43? I mean can I able to enter to BIOS and update it with a new version?
I don't have an older processor which work and supported on 100% on this motherboard.

Thanks for answer and I think I will take standard Haswell instead Haswell Refresh. I don't want to have any problems. i5-4570 should be fine.
Anyway or btw. Is RAM memory Crucial Ballistix 2x4GB (BLS2CP4G3D1609DS1S00CEU) supported on this motherboard? I didn't see them on list (maybe is out of date) so I want to ask before buy.
edit// I found Crucial Ballistix is supported https://pcpartpicker.com/parts/memory/?compatible_with=msi-motherboard-b85mg43

  • [MSI B85-G43] Windows freezes watching videos

    Hello folks,
My computer is freezing when I watch streams on Twitch and sometimes on Youtube too.
It also happens when I watch movies using Media Player Classic.
I can play games for hours and the system never got stucked.
    Can somebody help me?
    My specs are:
    MOBO: MSI B85-G43 GAMING LGA
    PSU: EVGA 500W 100-W1-0500-KR 500W, 80 Plus
    GPU: EVGA GTX 970 FTW
    RAM: DDR3 Corsair Vengeance CMZ8GX3M1A1600C10B 8GB 1600MHz
    Processor: Intel Core i7-4790k 4.0GHz 8MB 4ª Geração LGA 1150
Ps. Sorry for bad english, it's not my main language. :D

I was using Windows 8.1, but I formatted my pc and installed win 7 professional.
The problem happens on both OS.
When I get home I'll try to remove my GPU and test only on Intel HD 4600.
In other forums, I told that my Intel HD was not showing on "System Device's", they told me that it's normal, since my motherboard only uses the GTX, but I don't know. In my opnion, this video/stream it's Intel HD responsability.
I also read something about i7-4790k voltage on the BIOS, but I don't have no clue about what voltage it should or should not be. There are some people that had this problem becaus Intel Turbo Boost too, when I get home I'll check that too.

  • MSI B85 G43 Gaming slow downloadspeeds

I've got the B85 G43 mobo, with the Killer E2205 Gigabit LAN controller.
I've tested my connection 5 times with Speedtest, and barely got 10Mbit up & 10Mbit down. I then tested it from the same site, same room, same cable even, on an older PC, and the results were higher.
When I check the speed in Network Center it says 10Mbit on the new PC, and 1Gbit on the 7 year old PC.
    What I've already tried;
    - Reinstalling drivers official site
    - Disabling everything with 'Killer' in its name from startup & services
    - This tutorial
    - This tutorial to turn it into a Qualcomm
Getting lost here, I've had a lot of hope but download speed always stays the same. Atm I'm downloading BF4 but at a whopping 1MB/s, that takes about 10 hours, really sad. On my old PC I'd get 5 MB/s or even 8 MB/s, which is perfectly acceptable.

I'm now using these drivers, together with forcing it to run at Full Duplex 100Mbit. And it works!
I also bought a new switch, just to be certain. The previous Switch supported 10/100 Mbit, this one 10/100/1000 Mbit. My speed has gone x 10 though, thanks to the drivers (I think)

I finally found the answer after a little more web searching. You have to manually enter the ratio. There is no drop down or sub menu. Now I'm trying to figure out why Windows 7 only sees a 3.4 ghz cpu..
Where do you enter the ratio though?

  • B85-G43 nosound

System is completely mute. It had sound right after installing but after installing Nvidia drivers for GPU it disapeard.
    Since that time I tested: win 7 32bit, win 8.1 64bit, even Ubuntu live;
various drivers from mobo's DVD, MSI website, Realtek website latest and older,
with my GPU and without, using only IGP.
    and nothing:
Device Manger shows that all is installed properly
headphones are recognized when attached (both back and front socekt)
HD audio is primary device (it even shows green bars when sound is tested )
    Just there is no sound.
Unmounting mobo and booting it out of case didnt change anything.
Is there anything more I can do before returning to the shop ?

same thing just happened to me today on B75A-G43  did you tried set the volume on the speakers to the max? only on max volume i hear on one speaker some very mute sound. So, i think that onboard audio died :(
