Back/Previous page function

When reading a page on a website there is aften a third party link to take you to another page. When I've finished reading I used to be able to scroll back or click the back arrow to return to my original page - now I have to close Safari altogether and access the page from scratch, by opening safari again and re-entering the search parameters.
My OS is Lion 10.7.4
\Is there anything I can do to restore this function?

OK, try this link, it brings you to a page entitled "vinegar water" scroll down to the 3rd post from "RK" there is a link there to Portsmouth Water... click this link... and you are stuck there! At least I am!

Hopefully this will illustrate the problem.  (Please read the next post as I've updated some information!)

  • Where is the snap back to page function in Safari?

    Is the the "Snap back" to page function gone? I cannot find it anywhere on Safari 4

    Thanks. I can see that it is also useful in the search box but Apple should not have taken it out of the address bar. I use that function a great deal. The "Top Sites" function is nice but it doesn't replace the snap back function in the address bar.
    Sometimes I think the programmers at Apple do not actually use the applications they work on.
    Is there a request page I can ask Apple to put snap back back in?

  • Back/previous page button?

    Hi All,
    I'd like to add a back/previous page button to my website to make it more user friendly as its going to be a fairly big site, can anyone advise me on the best way to do this?
    Thanks in advance!

    Many ways to do this trivial task.  These buttons are simple hyperlinks and you can use background images to make them visually attractive.  But try this simple method :
    1) Set up your HTML code like this:
    <input class="general" type="button" value="Back" onClick="window.location='http://www.google.com' "/>
    <input class="general" type="button" value="Top" onClick="window.location='http://www.adobe.com' "/>
    <input class="general" type="button" value="Next" onClick="window.location='http://www.microsoft.com' "/>
    2) Next create your styles like this:
    .general {
    width: 90px;
    float: left;
    margin-right: 20px;
    3) The final product will look like this:
    Hope this gets you started.

  • Previous page button working as next page button

    Even when I create or take a button from InDesign library with previous page function it works as next page. How to fix this?

    1. Is this happening with a particular project or with all the projects?
    2. Is this happening only when you click a link to a bookmark or with all the links?
    3. What is the OS you are working on?

  • I have mozilla on Mac os x, The "Back" function for to go back at a previous page doesn't work. WHY?

    I have mozilla on Mac os x for about 8 months. The "Back" function, to go back on a previous page doesn't work, the "Back" arrow remains grey coloured, so it can't be pressed like when it's black coloured. It gets you tired to reopen pages all the time. WHY does this happen?
    == This happened ==
    Every time Firefox opened
    == I first downloaded mozilla.

    Go here to download Firefox 3.6:

  • Two finger swipe to go back in Safari isn't the same as clicking on the "show the previous page"

    I don't know if Apple knows about this, but swiping on the trackpad with two fingers to go back to the previous page isn't exactly the same as physically clicking on the arrow button on Safari to go back to the previous page.
    This is an issue because sometimes when I use the swipe gesture to go back, the previous page stays blank. Nothing shows up. But when I use the arrow button on Safari to go back, this isn't an issue.
    I'm sure a lot of people have identified this problem, but I'm not sure if this has been reported to Apple.
    Just like this:
    This may be due to the webpage not being fully compatible with Safari, but at least if Apple makes the swipe function work the same way as clicking on the left arrow button, this problem would be gone?

    It may not be just a trackpad issue ..
    From your Safari menu bar click Safari > Preferences then select the Privacy tab.
    Click:   Remove All Website Data
    Then delete the cache.
    Open a Finder window. From the Finder menu bar click Go > Go to Folder
    Type or copy paste the following
    ~/Library/Caches/com.apple.Safari/Cache.db
    Click Go then move the Cache.db file to the Trash.
    Quit and relaunch Safari to test.
    If nothing above helped, troubleshoot Safari extensions.
    From the Safari menu bar click Safari > Preferences then select the Extensions tab. Turn that OFF, quit and relaunch Safari to test.
    If that helped, turn one extension on then quit and relaunch Safari to test until you find the incompatible extension then click uninstall.

  • Safari reloading previous page after pressing the back button

    Hey guys, here my question regarding Safari...
    Why is it that every time I do the two finger swipe on the trackpad to go back to the previous page I was viewing on the web, freaking Safari takes me back to that page instantly but then automatically reloads the page. WHY?!?!
    I don't have this issue while using Firefox. I swipe to go back to the previous page and it's instantly available for me to continue browzing / scrolling, etc.
    Another thing I noticed in Safari is that if I'm half way down a page and click on something, which takes me to that page but then I swipe to go back, it doesn't take me back to where I was on the page (say, half way down, for example) it take me up towards the top (not all the way at the top, mind you, just up higher, NOT WHERE I WAS WHEN I LEFT THE PAGE) Why does it do this?!?! You'd think that Apple would have designed Safari to be the next best thing since sliced bread and that it would work instantly and flawlessly. I'd imagine that Firefox and other browzers would be the ones taking forever to load but it's freakin Safari that is doing this, I don't get it.
    For the record, Firefox functions flawlessly. Instantly shows the page I was at when I press the back button or swipe back and it puts me BACK IN THE SAME SPOT THAT I WAS AT BEFORE I LEFT THE PAGE!!!!
    I use both browzers as I need two (use both for different things and have different bookmarks saved, etc) but I'm starting to HATE Safari simply for this one issue I'm having. It makes surfing the web take 2x as long as I not only have to wait for the page to RELOAD after pressing the back button, I also have to scroll back down to where I was before I left the page, which takes TIME!
    Someone please explain this to me. I looked at other posts regarding this issue but there is no clear solution to the problem.
    HELP.

    I think Apple should give the end user the choice whether to autoload the webpage when you press the back button or not. It would be a simple fix for this issue that it seems a lot of people are suffering with.
    I WANT to use the default web browser that my Macbook Pro came with (Safari) and don't really want to use the alternatives (Firefox, Chrome, etc) but surfing the web is a slow, time consuming process with this auto reload "feature".
    Apple, Please fix this ASAP!
    This is my first Apple laptop (was a long time Sony Vaio / Windows user) and I expected good things from my Mac, after hearing / reading all the reviews but this Safari issue is a MAJOR turn off for me. It needs to be address ASAP.

  • Sometimes my back button is greyed out and does not show the previous page i was just looking at!?

    This randomly happens and i can not tell exactly what i do or why.
    All i know is that every time you visit a page,site, picture etc... the back button remembers every page you have just been too in that session.
    However some times the back button goes grey and i can not click on it and it loses all the previous pages i have been to.
    I can reopen the last pages by going to my history but it's really annoying as it takes time and as i surf and look at a lot of things, the back button is crucial for me.

    I am experiencing the same problem with the back button randomly being greyed out and not functional. If I navigate to the same page a second time, the back button is usually functional again... have not been able to associate this behavior with any particular site

  • Hi guys. Just a quick question. My wife has a Mac Book Pro and when she is browsing the web she can use a two fingered gesture to go back to her previous page (by swiping from right to left). Is there any way to set that up on my iPad Mini. Many thanks.

    Not in the Safari browser she can't. That is not supported on the iPad. There are other mobile browsers that do have that functionality - one is iCab Mobile.

  • Did Lion eliminate the finger gestures for show the previous page and show the next page?  I've checked system settings for the track pad and it looks like the got rid of one of my favorite finger gestures when browsing the internet.  How do I get it back

    I've upgraded to LION. It looks like LION eliminates the finger gestures within internet browsing that used to yield navigating to the previous page or navigating to the next page.  I think it was a 3 finger swipe to the left and a 3 finger swipe to the right.  It looks like this has been eliminated.  I've gone into the system preferences and went through all the new settings for the track pad finger gestures.  I've not found a combination that allows me to swipe on the track pad to do the page forward / page back function.
    How to I get this back?  I was my favorite one and now I can't get there!

    For going back to the previous page try a 2-finger gesture. Two fingers in the other direction will take you back.

  • I used to be able to go back several pages but when I upraded to this forefox version, I can only go back one page at a time. Upon hovering on the back button, it doesnt show the previous pages i have been to. How can i get the feature again?

    How can I go back several pages? The back button no longer displays multiple previous pages

    Click-hold the unified Back / Forward button, or right-click it to get the Back / Forward history for that tab.
    Or install this extension to get the old "drop-marker" button restored. <br />

  • After updating IE7, Firefox 3.6 no longer store history--back button in Firefox can't access previous pages.

    Yesterday a security update for IE7 was automatically downloaded into my computer. Now the history feature of Firefox is working poorly. Often it doesn't save previous pages for the back button to access during an online session. The few times I've been able to navigate back to a Google search page, the search terms I've used previously are absent. However most often today, the browser doesn't even acknowledge that there were previous pages and the back button remains grayed out.

    I got an email saying that Cor-el had posted a reply to my question. I don't see it on this page. Was it deleted?

  • How to return to previous pages without going back one at a time

    I do a lot of work on ebay and have to return to previous searches or pages and I used to be able to have a button that would show all the previous pages and I could go down the list and click on it. The only option I have now is to go into history and it only shows recent pages and it's for ALL the tabs open. I want just the tab for ebay previous pages. For instance if I go to ebay sold and relist an item it takes me through the prompts and if I want to return to ebay sold I want a drop down showing that option. I no longer see one. This normally wouldn't be too much of an issue except that the ebay sold is on ebay.com and relist is on ebay.ca so I like to go back to the previous page instead of going to bookmarks, ebay, my ebay, sold etc to get there again. Too much work!!! thanks, Iris
