Back to Entourage?

Got my beautiful iMac G5 a couple of weeks ago and would like to give Mail an honest try (again). But a few things bug me - maybe somebody can help:
Multiple email addresses
In Entourage I could have several accounts with different From addresses and From names and each had its own default signature.
But Mail does not let me set up another account with the same login. (Isn't Mac supposed to be more flexible than MS?) All my emails - business or personal, then go through with the same Sender name.
And when sending, I have to fiddle with both From address and Signature.
Can I set up different accounts with the same login?
Can I at least vary the From sender's name?
Revise Subject or Text of incoming emails?
In Entourage I was able to change the Subject - usually, to add the Sender's name. But now, my Orders folder contains a bunch of emails "Product Order -" and my Inquiries folder emails "Product Inquiry - ". It is scary and it looks useless. Yes, Spotlight is great, but I do not want to depend completely on it. And if I get another email from a customer with no name in the text, I would like to ad it to the Subject, or add comments to received messages. Etc.
Can I change the incoming Subject or the Text??
Lost emails?
I think I have lost some emails received this morning. Spotlight cannot find them and without names in the Subject, I cannot either. I thought this was impossible but reading the Forum, I wonder.
Does Mail lose messages?
Minor peeves
Why can't I select multiple messages and use the natural Command-O keys to open them all?
No progress bar when downloading - is it alive?
Filing open messages into folders through the menu is annoying.
I woudl like to be using Mail, instead of the brand new Entourage in MS Office, and would appreciate your advice.

Many thanks for your helpful advices!
Office 2004 has already been ordered...

  • Leopard Mail Inconsistent at best - went back to Entourage!

I loaded 10.5 on my PowerBook G4 just after it's release. I migrated to mail 3.0 from Entourage and was pleased that all went well including my Exchange server settings at work but...several emails that have been listed as sent have not been recieved by the recipients (most notably to Comcast accounts). Also many mails sent on my Exchange server have not been received by the recipients. I have tried various fixes, port changes etc. to no avail. It is truly disturbing to THINK that you have sent an email and get no indication that it did not get to the intended recipient. Consequently I have switched back to Entourage as painful as that is. I have tried Apple mail in every OS X release and have yet to get a useable product! Apple, please fix this mess!
PS I have also put 10.5 on 2 G4 iBook's and a MacBook Pro where mail has been equally inconsistent!
Has anyone had a bug free experience with Mail 3.0??

I don't think it has anything to do with the client (Entourage or Mail) that you are using. Once either one "sends" a message, it is gone. Whether or not it ever shows up at the recipient depends on a number of other factors, none of which include the client used to send the message.
One of those "other factors" could be anti-spam systems. It is slightly possible that you mail settings aren't quite the same as the Entourage settings. Usually, though, that would cause Mail not to work at all. It is unlikely (though remotely possible) that the receiving server could detect some slight difference between the message headers and think your message is spam or forged. You will sometimes get rejection responses in these cases. You can always send yourself the same message using both Mail and Entourage and look for any differences (use view as Raw message).
You mentioned that the problem was more common with Comcast recipients. Some big ISPs go overboard on anti-spam system. For example, a spammer sets up shop at a cheap ISP and gets detected and the e-mail server blacklisted. Anyone else who has the misfortune to have had an account at the same ISP might also get blacklisted just because they use the same server. Again, sometimes you will get rejections if this happens. You will have to contact your ISP and have them contact Comcast to get it fixed. I have an account on Dreamhost and this used to happen a couple of times a year. It hasn't happened for a while though.
The bottom line is that e-mail just isn't very reliable. There is certainly nothing wrong with mail that will make it less reliable than any other e-mail client.

  • Backing up Entourage address book

I have Entourage 2004. How do I (in easy easy terms please) back up my address book? Can I back it up to a folder on my desktop? Should I back it up elsewhere? Once I back it up, is it easily restored if I have a problem?

File -> Export -> Contacts to a list
For further questions regarding Entourage, please post them on Microsoft's own forums as this forum is for troubleshooting Apple's own Mail and Address Book application, and Apple forums only provide support for Apple products:

  • Moved back to entourage.....standard edition....

    Hi,
i have discovered that sending attachments on Exchange using the web services does not work with files above 5mb (while my company goes up to 20mb). Both Mail and Entourage web service edition won't work. I reverted back to std Entourage and that works at least.
    Any experience?

i find the resolution here...seems like the std EWS setting is 5mb.

  • Getting back into Entourage now I'm using iCloud

Now I'm using iCloud and Mail I cannot access my old emails in Entourage - is there any way I can open the Entourage file as I need information in those emails??

I'm feeling rather silly (nice word) right now. I kept trying to type in the group that I created but in reality I was typing in the abbreviated group that I put on their contact as the company. Thank you. I'm so glad it was something I was doing wrong.

  • Syncing contacts from iPhone back to iMac (Entourage)

Briefly, after both my Time Machine and hard drive failed, I lost all my data. My Entourage contacts re-main on my iPhone, and I want to sync them back to Entourage. I understand the process of "merging,"but I have run into a few obstacles: I am using the latest version of iTunes (7.6.2), by the way. First, under Preferences, I have no options available under "Syncing." Then, when I connect my iPhone, and select "Info," I have no options here, either. I do have a number of contacts in Entourage in my iMac, but, apparently, iTunes no longer recognizes the existence of this program, so I can go no-
where. (My Entourage Contacts have been duplicated in my Address Book, but that doesn't show up, either. Something must be terribly corrupted.) I'm both frustrated and perplexed, so any help would be greatly appreciated. Many thanks in advance. pah

Something to check when syncing contacts from iphone back to computer, make sure to open address book and enter at least one contact.
Then when you connect the iphone, you should get a message asking if you want to merge the data.
Click merge and this should copy all contacts from the iphone back into address book.
the same goes with ical also.
Make sure there is at least one event in ical.
Now to move the data in address book and ical to entourage is set in the entourage preferences in the sync services section.
    Hope this helps.

  • Entourage and Mozilla Thunderbird and back.

For a while I was using Entourage but decided to move to Mozilla Thunderbird and it's been ok but now I want to move all my email address's and all the folders where I store email back to Entourage. Someone was kind enough to inform me on how to get them from Entourage to T'Bird but now the question is how to get them back as I had deleted them in Entourage once I had them in T-Bird and over time more have been created. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Also, if Entourage won't automatically import the messages, there is probably an Export option on Thunderbird. I am afraid a Microsoft forum might not be much help and you may have to start with a Thunderbird forum first.

  • Entourage 2008 - Importing from Outlook 2007 ???

Hi guys, just got a MacBook Pro this week and I had reserved a copy of Office 2008 which I got today.
It's great because that's what I was waiting for to put my PC on sale
BUT i was astonished to see that there's not the option to import pst files in Entourage ??
I was using Office 2007 for PC therefore Outlook 2007.
The only way we can export stuff is by creating .PST files, so you can backup all your contacts, your messages with attachements and your calendar (which are my 3 priorities).
Using the equivalent application from Microsoft but for the Mac, that is : Entourage 2008, there's not the option to import .pst ?? What the heck ??
So please guys if you know a way to export my stuff (messages, contacts and calendar) from Outlook 2007 PC to Entourage 2008 MAC, please let me know !!!
    THANK YOU !!

    Hey guys,
I don't want to be repeting by here's the way I worked this out :
    EMAILS
First I installed Thunderbird on my Win computer.
Then I imported from outlook. It took a while since my PST was like 3 Gb.
At first I was crashing it but then I let it work for a try and it imported everything perfectly, but not showing any progress bar during the process.
Second, I searched Thunderbird help for the way to export in MBOX, and it pointed out that I sould get a plug-in, which I did.
Third, having installed the plug-in, I had a tool menu for exporting. Only thing I had to do is select each folder one by one and export them using this plug-in, I only had to add .MBOX extention to every file.
Finally, when you get these files in OS X with entourage, you just drag and drop them in entourage and them import perfectly.
That did the job for me anyways.
    CONTACTS
Send yourself emails of contacts !
I sent myself email (with the WORK OFFLINE option so I wouldn't receive them in outlook) in the contacts from outlook.
As you can imagine, I totally got rid of Outlook, and of Windows actually, by now but as I remember it when you right click on a contact you have an item that's called something like "send full information of contact through email".
So to keep my categories I sent one email per categories.
Back in entourage, I had to save attachements, import them, put them in a category.
Then next email, etc. and so on.
    CALENDAR
I haven't found a way to do this but what I did was : In outlook you have a way to display your calendar events by a list, so I just made a couple of print screen of that list and I put the future events that I wanted to keep in Entourage.
    And the conclusion is :
Well I said byebye to Entourage because I don't need MS Exchange support and I hate Microsoft more and more everyday so I'm using Mail, Address Book and iCal now
But I could easily import from entourage into all of these.
The only microsoft apps I still are the must-have : word, excel and powerpoint 2008.

  • Entourage 2008 and iSync

Hey everyone, I was using the new Entourage 2008 and loved it, until I realized it was going to take A LOT of work to get it to sync with my Palm Centro. I ended up switching back to Entourage 2004 which is really starting to tick me off. Here's what I would like to be able to do, and you all may be able to tell me if this is indeed feasible or not.
    1. I would like to be able to sync my Centro (contacts, calendar, to-dos, notes, etc.) with Entourage, consequently I would like to be able to go both ways. So say I create an event in Entourage and then change the time of the event on the Centro, I would like that to be reflected on both the computer and Centro.
    2. I would like to be able to sync my contacts and calendar on MobileMe (I'm not sure how that system works, but for now I would just like to be able to view my calendar online).
    3. Eventually I'd like to sync the whole deal with like Google Calendars and stuff.
Entourage 2004 was SO easy to sync my Centro. I tried to sync with 2008 and it just made a bunch of duplicates and caused me a headache. After realizing that Microsoft wasn't going to be able to help me, I switched back to 2004. What a bummer, because the new 2008 is AWESOME!
Thanks for the help, I really appreciate it. I've been looking online and on forums for weeks now and haven't really found a solid answer.

Wow, really? Why would Apple do that?
Because iSync's Palm support was severely out of date, didn't work very well, and, I guess it wouldn't be worth Apple's time and money to devote development resources to it further.
What exactly does the Missing Sync program do for me?
It'll basically sync everything between your Mac and Palm - contacts, calendars, notes, tasks, memos, install Palm OS applications and conduits, sync music, photos and videos. Far more than iSync ever did.
    Read more here: http://www.markspace.com/products/palm/palm-sync-software.html
Is there a better PDA to use with Mac OS X then?
iPhone is the best since Apple makes everything from the phone to the OS. It just works.
Are any of those going to work better than the Palm OS?
I don't know whether any of them will work better, but they all need third-party software from MarkSpace to sync with a Mac. None sync out-of-the-box.

  • Entourage and display problem

Since the 10.4.4 update I have been having strange problems with Entourage (Microsoft Office email client).
After the program has been running for a while (varies between a few minutes and a few hours) the "Hide" command doesn't work properly. When I "Hide" the program, the windows do not disappear, although the program menubar does hide and another application becomes "active."
Once switching back to Entourage, certain window elements no longer display correctly. Different buttons (i.e. "Send" the drop down menu for the from address on replies, etc.) are "greyed out" although some do work in this greyed out state.
I wasn't sure where else to post this question. Searching on google and this forum doesn't seem to reveal anyone else with the same problem. Any ideas?
    --Joe

The fact Excel is affected too, sounds to me
somewhere along the line you either accidently moved
a file or deleted or renamed one or a few of
Microsoft Office's documents. My suggestion is
    this.
That was my original thought. As mentioned, I already completely removed and re-installed Office. On the first run of Excel (both before and after a "Fix Permissions) the problem was there. Entourage doesn't exhibit the problem immediately, but it did come back in a short time. If something is moved or corrupted, it is not something that the Office installer will fix or replace.
Backup all your data. Note, Microsoft Entourage
stores its data in your Home -> Documents ->
    Microsoft User data folder.
Run the office uninstaller found in your Office
    application folder.
    Reinstall Office.
The hardware test is found on your restore disks that
came with your Mac and is bootable much the same way
the Powerbook hardware test volume is:
    http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=86287
I am traveling now, but will give the hardware test a try when I get home and have access to the boot CD.
    Thanks.

  • Entourage makes iclock disappear.

I have iclock set to display the date and time on my menu bar. When I launch Entourage, the date and time disappears. If I click on Finder, the date and time reappears. If I click back on Entourage, the date and time disappears again. So, when Entourage is the active window/application, iclock disappears.
Can this be fixed and, if so, how?
    Thanks!
    Shawn

Since neither are Apple products, you'll get better response if you use a forum dedicated to Microsoft's Mac products such as <http://groups.google.com/groups/dir?sel=33607053> rather than an Apple forum.
Or post in the iClock forums: http://www.scriptsoftware.com/forum/
Be sure to search the forum first in case someone has already had a similar question answered. You'll get your answer faster this way. Post your question in the forum if you don't find anything that helps you.

  • Exporting mailboxes and addresses to entourage

HELP! Yesterday Entourage crashed & i've lost all data and had to re-install. Fortunately, have backed up a lot of stuff in Mail. But I can't export it back to entourage. I've tried changing .emlx to .eml. Entourage still won't recognise it. Any other suggestions? IF I resolve this, I shall abandon Entourage forever!!

This ought to get you started:
    From:
    http://www.entourage.mvps.org/import_export/another.html
"Pre-Tiger versions of Apple Mail.app can be imported with Entourage's importer. However, starting with Tiger, Apple modified the way Mail stores its email messages. In pre-Tiger versions, Mail stored its messages in standard .mbox files; however, to enable Tiger's Spotlight to search them, Mail now stores its messages individually as .emlx files, which can be found in
    <your user name>/Library/Mail/<name of the account>/<name of the folder>/Messages.
Entourage 2004 was released roughly a year before Tiger came out consequently, it doesn't take into consideration the changes that were made in Tiger. This explains why the import function does not recognize .emlx files.
To change Tiger Mail.app messages from .emlx to .eml files see these instructions:"

  • ICal with Entourage Syncing

Hi, Can't sync iCal and Entourage calenders. Had this working but upgraded (hah!) to Outlook for Mac and now going back to Entourage won't sync.
iCal external sync is crashing daily according to crash log.
Have tried deleting syncs and starting again. No joy. Entourage shows in iCal as calender but no data.
    All software up to date.
    Simon

Hello, Julian, original macrat and LizKual ~
I have the same problem as macrat and Liz.  Syncing (I'm not talking about iSync; I'm talking about Sync Services) between Entourage 2008 and iCal was working just fine until March 16.
Initially, the Entourage calendar, with all its entries, disappeared from iCal.  But with some help from the folks in the Microsoft support forums, I was able to get the Entourage calendar to show up again on the list in iCal's left-hand column but, unfortunately, still without any events.
I've been plugging away in the Microsoft forums ever since.  Can you believe this?!  I haven't been able to use the calendar on my iPhone since March 16!
    See:
    http://www.officeformac.com/ms/ProductForums/Entourage/17016/0
    http://www.office.mvps.org/troubleshoot/syncservices.html- ss2
    http://www.office.mvps.org/syncservices/ical.html#calsync5
    http://www.office.mvps.org/faq_topic/duplicates.html
I have done every relevant thing suggested on these four pages.  I still don't have any Entourage events showing up in iCal (although Entourage 2 is on the list of iCal calendars) and now I have a massive number of duplicates, triplicates, quadruplicates, etc., appearing in my Entourage calendar.  The only thing on the above-mentioned pages that I haven't yet tried is Syncrospector. (I bought Xcode and then discovered it was probably included as part of Snow Leopard.  Oh well, I'm soldiering on, even though I'm in way over my head.)
Do you know whether someone has already assembled the code needed to get Syncrospector to eliminate the masses of duplicate calendar entries that Entourage 2008 stands ready to send to Sync Services?  Such info — or, even better, a link — would be much appreciated.  :-)  I've been preparing for this undertaking, but at this rate it could be another two months before I succeed.
Of course, even after I get rid of the duplicates, I'll still need to find a way to get Sync Services to communicate between Entourage and iCal — which is its job, after all. Suggestions on that point would also be welcome.  Maybe Sync Services is choking on the duplicates and that's why it's not sending anything to iCal.  If so, then maybe Syncrospector will take care of both problems.  I can only hope.
    Thanks very much.

  • IPhone / Entourage dates get doubled after sync

I hope I'm not repeating a question, although I did a search earlier. When I sync a task from Enourage to my iPhone using iTunes, of course they all go from the various calendars ("categories", in Entourage) to the single iPhone calendar. However the next time I sync, those tasks "come back" to Entourage as separate tasks and are put into the Entourage "Home" calendar, which is the default set up in iTunes if a new task is created in iPhone. The trouble is, these tasks are not being created in iPhone, they all originate in Entourage. As a result, they get doubled.
    Any solution?
    Thanks!

    hi again,
this helped me: besides using Entourage I used to tell iTunes to sync with mail account settings (when I first got the iMac I transferred my account settings from Entourage to Mail, but later decided to use Entourage again). However, since I told iTunes not to sync the Mail account settings, the tasks do not double in Entourage anymore.
