Back to my mack

I have just installed an airport extreme in my office. I can not access my office network through my mobile me account. I get a notice that my back to my mac account is not working because my router does not support NAT port mapping protocol or UPnP. Which router are they talking about? Do i need a new router at my home?

Did you forward the correct ports through your home router to your Mac?
You may want to post in the MobileMe Back to My Mac discussion area.

  • Started using a Yamaha n12 with Logic... having problems!!

    Hi Guys
Just wondering if anyone is using a Yamaha n12?
I've just bought one to replace (tentitively!) my Mackie Onyx 1220...
First thing I noticed was that the n12 wasn't "plug and play" the way the Mackie Onyx was. It didn't show up in the "sound" control panel until I loaded a special application called "M-Lan connection manager"...
... that kind of freaked me out - one more driver to go wrong, or to have future compatibility issues!
Anyway, it seems to be working OK, although a few "error 36s" have come up while playing from a random point in a song in Logic.
But the main problem I am having is that Logic is not receiving or sending ANY MIDI over my old M-Audio Midisport 4x4 while the Yamaha n12 is running. I still need to use the Midisport 'cos I have several MIDI devices (the n12 only has one MIDI in and one out).
Has anyone had similar experiences to this? Is there a way to keep using my Midisport alongside the n12? (When I switch back to the Mackie Onyx to test, everything is fine...)
On this whole subject, I would LOVE some feedback from anyone using an n12. Is it a bit unstable? Is having to use this "connection manager" thing annoying?
I am already finding it quite irritating that the n12 isn't usually recognized when I start the Mac, and I have to cycle it on and off to get it to show up....
Perhaps the Onyx is a better way to go after all, even though it's a bit simpler?
Thanks heaps guys - look forward to any words of wisdom you have to offer!
    Cheers,
    Mike

    Hi Guys,
If you're using a Yamaha n12, there is a new version of the firmware (1.03), and the firwire firmware (1.0.7).
More importantly, Yamaha have released new drivers, called "Yamaha Steinberg FW drivers"...
Not only do these solve the problem of the n12 being recognized (and the issue of blocking other MIDI interfaces), they allow AMAZINGLY low latency. Projects which I had to run with a buffer of 128 on my Mackie Onyx will now run at a buffer of 32, with no glitches!
Very impressed with the n12 now I have the new drivers and firmware!
I definitely recommend that other n12 users update these if you haven't already!
    Cheers,
    Mike

  • MacBookPro freezes upon start-up

When starting my MacBook Pro the start-up sequence appears to have to slowed down. Furthermore, my Mac freeze oftenly on the start-up screen; the mouse turns to the spinning wheel and does not allow me to Force Quit. I have to force shut down the Mac from the power off button. When i turn it back on the Mack runs fine. I am unsure what to do? Anyone experience simliar problems or could suggest what i should do? I'm new to Macs!

Try this instead http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?path=Mac/10.7/en/mh21210.html  Usually when there are issues at start-up there's a program that may be launching in the background that you might not be aware of.  What you can do is start in safe mode (which disables any applications from launching) by holding down shift after turning on your MacBook Pro. Here's the link to booting to safe mode http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1455
As for what CMCSK mentioned above about Lion Recovery, it will only reset your Mac if you go into Disk Utility and select erase, then reinstall Lion.  If what I mentioned above doesn't work you can use Lion Recovery to run Repair Disk in Disk Utility, test and if that doesn't work you can reinstall Lion.

  • `I had to do a force quit to get the spinning color wheel off the screen for itunes, system preferences and finder.  `now the screen is lit but it cannot find finder and the itunes icon just bounces up and down whenI click on it-whay should do?

I think my card reader was just taken out of the back of my mack pro without proper ejection. I had to use force quit on everything open to get rid of the color wheel.  `itunes, system preferences, finder were open and not responding.  `now the screen is lit but if `i click on itunes the symbol just bounces and for finder it says finder cannot be found 10810.  What should I do next?  Thanks-

  • A Choir Query: from FinalePM to LogicXP (and back)

    The Challenge:
A Mac-based filmmaker/video editor anxiously seeks advice from experienced users of Finale and Logic Express who know the inner mysteries of MIDI (and may also be proficient with GarageBand).
In a nutshell, I'm struggling to understand the simplest way (if there is such a thing) to add some specific non-orchestral sounds to my Finale PrintMusic Instrument List, to beef up the playback of some original compositions.
And failing that, the simplest way to use some of the specific SmartMusic SoundFont samples included with FinalePM in a GarageBand or a LogicExpress project.
The Rest Is Background and Elaboration:
I've spent the past few weeks using Finale's PrintMusic2006 to develop some musical underscores for a short film I'm now editing (using FinalCutPro 5). The simple arrangements I've created using PrintMusic's built-in SoftSynth player and the SoundFont instruments package so far work pretty well as demos to accompany the printed notation, and that was their original intention. But parts of them actually sound not too bad, and are close to being useable for the film itself. So now I'd like to see if I can take the playback aspect even further, and use PrintMusic (either on its own or in combination with other software) to generate a more polished final output.
So far though, my experience with the other music software available to me has been frustrating:
    - GarageBand3 will import a MIDI file exported from PrintMusic, but only at a single tempo. This one-tempo-only-per-project limitation is a major roadblock for me, because while this music is hardly sophisticated, it does have tempo variations, as well as key and time signature changes.
    - SoundtrackPro, supposedly a higher-end app than GarageBand, won't even import a standard MIDI file. (What's up with that, anyway? I still haven't quite figured out where STP lies on the GarageBand-LogicExpress-LogicPro spectrum.)
    - and LogicExpress (which I don't yet own but am testing a trial version of) - aside from being a whole new learning curve I really don't have time to get into right now - doesn't even have basic versions of the software instruments I'm trying to find better quality versions of, such as Harpsichord, Bagpipe (yes, the music involves a very strange mix), and most of all, choral/choir effects (more human-sounding Oohs, Ahhs, Doos, and Mmms, both male and female).
    The Arrangements:
The instruments I've used in PrintMusic for playback of the different versions of the film's music are:
    - Church Organ,
    - Choir Aahs
    - Voice Oohs,
    - Bagpipe,
    - Harpsichord,
    - Tubular Bells,
    - Woodblock,
    - Overdriven Guitar,
    - and a couple of bg synth effects.
The organ, harpsichord, guitar, bell and woodblock all sound not too bad in context. The Bagpipe's a bit wimpy, but both it and the Harpsichord are at least better than the ones the Apple apps offer - which is to say, none! And I was especially disappointed to see that even with the addition of hundreds of dollars worth of JamPacks those same apps still don't appear to offer any human voice/choral Software Instrument sounds whatsoever.
I do see such sounds available for purchase at sites such as these:
    http://www.soundsonline.com/sophtml/details.phtml?sku=PS13
    and
    http://www.bestservice.de/detail.asp/en/vocalchoir/extended_classicalchoir/813442a66p249p64p49
(with of course much higher-end and higher-priced options also available).
But the question I'm hoping someone out there can help me with is:
    - Can PrintMusic make use of these kinds of samples (either these specific ones, or any other kinds in any other formats -- including the Software Instruments already included in Logic and/or GarageBand)?
    - And are there sites from which specific software instruments can be purchased and downloaded a la carte (the same way you can easily preview and then download individual typeface fonts from any number of freeware, shareware, and commercial sites)?
Because even though it's very much a notation program first and an audio-file creation program second, Finale's simple PrintMusic is right now much closer to having the sounds I want for this particular project than the much costlier LogicExpress. But Is there in fact any way to selectively add to the number and variety of Instruments which can be accessed in PrintMusic's Instrument List? And can it utilize additional software instruments such as the choral sounds on Peter Siedlaczek`s "Extended Classical Choir" noted above?
And if (as I just did) I download an ".sf2" formatted sample of a bagpipe, how do I get a Finale (or a LogicExpress for that matter) to actually see the darn thing and make it accessible -- is it as simple as just placing the file in the correct folder? I've scoured the manuals, and I still don't know.
(I see on the MakeMusic site how for the full Finale "exciting libraries of additional instruments are available from Garritan and Native Instruments", which makes me think that instruments in the correct format can indeed be added to a Finale Instrument List -- although things like the Garritan Personal Orchestra package wouldn't help me right now, since the few specific sounds I'm seeking are choral and/or non-orchestral.)
So I'm feeling more than a little lost right now in what seems like a minefield of different and often incompatible synthesizers, sequencers, samplers and samples out there. I'm really hoping someone can at least begin to steer me in the right direction on this question.
Very much looking forward to hearing from you.
    Thanks!

Thanks for the reply, Justin. (Sorry about the slow response -- I'm a bit swept up with March Break kid stuff.)
Frankly, hiring a tech to help you through the
process is perhaps the best option. A few hours is
    all it would take.
Attempts to go in that direction have so far met with limited success, but I'll keep beating the bushes. (Having some trouble connecting with someone with the right combination of experience in the right combination of apps -- Finale, LogicExpress, different samples in different formats, etc.)
I come from Logic Pro so there may
be a few differences (one of the is the EXS24 is
EXSP24-every detail concerning limitations I do not
    know).
    See what I mean!
Otherwise, I can make a few suggestions to get
you started. If you do this often and really want to
focus on sound quality you'll want a sound library
which is forward compatible. You can then compose in
Finale and move the sequence over to Logic and work
on the sound. If you want to work with soundfonts
DLSMusic device will load them up.
I was getting the impression I'd need a 3rd party utility like SoundFont Synth (http://andydrabble.users.btopenworld.com/soundfontsynth/moreinfo.html) that can use sound font files in GarageBand, Logic, etc. Are you saying that LogicXP can access ".sf2" files, as well as the MakeMusic GM Instruments included with Finale's PrintMusic2006, directly -- without the help of intermediaries like SoundFont Synth? If true, that would be great for me -- but I'm finding the LogicXP documentation more than a little inscrutable so far, and can't find the section that tells me in a nice step-by-step way how to do that.
Drabble's SoundFont Synth does come with exactly that kind of step-by-step guide for using the program with GarageBand, which I'll copy/paste here for anyone interested:
    ==============
SoundFont Synth is an Audio Unit plug-in designed to make the synthesis of
natural instruments using Sound Fonts, available to GarageBand or any other Audio Unit compatible host.
    Main Features
    1. Uses Apple's excellent DLS synthesizer engine to produce high quality sounds.
    2. Uses industry standard SoundFont files (.sf2) thousands of which are widely available for free download from the Internet.
    3. Passes Apple's Audio Unit Validation tests.
    4. Can use Pitch Bend wheel to control low pass, high pass, band pass and notch filters.
    5. Compatible with GarageBand 1, 2, and 3..
    Getting Started (GarageBand)
Start up GarageBand and create a 'Software Instrument' track within your
    GarageBand project.
Select the 'Track/Show Track Info' menu item to display the track info window.
Select 'SoundFont Synth' from the 'Generator' pull down menu.
Using the button to the right of the Generator pull down, open up the
    Audio Unit editor.
The Sound Font field will default to 'QuickTime Music Synthesizer'. If you have
a Sound Font available on your computer then select it using the 'Choose' button.
Select an Instrument from the 'Instrument' pull down menu.
Using an external keyboard or the GarageBand keyboard, play a few notes
in the C3-C4 range to hear the notes play.
    =============
And following those excellent instructions I was indeed able to start using the MakeMusic GM Instruments in GB3. But when I wrote the author and asked if he had a version of those instructions written in "LogicExpress-ese", this was his reply:
    John,
I wish I could be of help but I have no knowledge of Logic Express or music for that matter.
I am basically a Computer Designer and Programmer.
To make it work with Logic, you need to follow the same procedure, which I assume is documented, as for any "Music Device" AudioUnit.
Sorry I can't be of more help.
    Andy.
So, since LogicPro is way out of my price (& complexity) range for this particular project, I'm back to wondering both how and if Express -- either on its own, or in combination with something like SoundFont Synth, will let me incorporate the following elements:
    1) some better quality (but still affordable) human voice/choir sounds, such as the ones offered at:
    http://www.soundsonline.com/sophtml/details.phtml?sku=PS13,
    OR http://www.bestservice.de/detail.asp/en/vocalchoir/extended_classicalchoir/813442a66p249p64p49
    2) some ".sf2" files from sources such as www.sf2midi.com,
    3) some of the original MakeMusic GM Instrument sounds included with Finale's PrintMusic2006
    4) As well as possibly some of the software instruments included with Logic/GarageBand and maybe some of the JamPacks.
Now assuming I'm using LogicExpress, that last one's a no-brainer of course. But I'm still fuzzy on the workflow involving the first three, and they're the ones I really need for this specific project (and that's all this venture into music production is about for now -- I need to get back to what I should be doing, which is the video editing).
So given that this is not something I'm gong to be doing all that often in the future, should I be considering avoiding Logic altogether, and using what some people tell me are much more beginner-user-friendly apps like Tracktion2 (http://www.mackie.com/products/tracktion/tracktion.html), or MetroSE (http://www.sagantech.biz/products/metro6se.htm)?
Would love to hear from anyone who's used either of the above, especially in terms of accessing the kinds of additional software instruments I listed earlier.
[...] One of the problems is that
Logic has no GM soundset, so getting an AU which you
use with both apps is important. EXS24 will load the
soundfonts if they are in the correct folder-you can
leave them or conert them to EXS24 format. So just
mix and layer until things sound good. You can use
Logic for all of this but you sound like you're more
comfortable in Finale. Let me know what you think so
    far...
Am certainly comforatble with the idea of composing in Finale, then moving over into something which easily lets me add the specific instruments I want to "upgrade", while still keeping some of the MakeMusic GM sounds from Finale's Instrument List.
But am still unsure about which apps (or combination thereof) I should be commiting to and start mastering the basics of -- something with the right combination of affordability and simplicity to get this specific job done (yet not TOO simple, as in GarageBand's frustrating inability to vary tempos).
And I'm also just still trying to get my brain around Audio Objects vs. Audio Units, and samplers vs. sequencers, and EXS24 vs. EXSP24, and channels vs. tracks, and on and on. Any recommendations of sites with basic "MIDI and the Mac - 101" plain-English primers would also be gratefully accepted!
    Thanks,
    jb

  • Is it possible to only allow HD content when HDCP is present, otherwise fall back to SD?

For any of the proposed ideas here, you will have to package your content twice, where each stream would require its own license:
    1 package for SD bitrates
    1 package for HD bitrates
[ Try to play & react if necessary ]
When the user wants to play HD content, attempt to do a license acquisition for the HD stream.  If it fails with an error code indicating that the device doesn't not have the needed output protection requirements (DRMErrorEvent 3338 – 3342), the client would then fall back and play the SD stream, which would trigger a license acquisition of a license that doesn't require Output Protection enabled.
    [ License Preview ]
When the user wants to play content, perform a "License Preview" of the HD stream to determine if the license can be consumed & enforced by the device (DRMManager.loadPreviewVoucher()).  If the result of loading this Preview license fails with a DRM Error event around Output Protection requirements (#3338-3342), then play the SD stream.
[ Leverage an existing front-load license request that you're using to preemptively initialize the DRM system ]
This is similar to "License Preview", but attempts to front-load that check and retain the result for later use.
In our whitepaper to optimize "start to playback" experience (http://wwwimages.adobe.com/www.adobe.com/content/dam/Adobe/en/devnet/video/pdfs/start-to-p layback-adobe-access.pdf), one of the things we recommended was to front-load a license acquisition on a non-existent content very early in the user workflow (Optimization #2).  Doing this would initialize the DRM system so that when the real license acquisition happened later on, Adobe Access would already be primed.
To take this a step further, if you have this in place, since you already are doing a license acquisition ahead of time, you could use a policy that requires Output Protection.  In your client, when it attempts to acquire a license, it can record whether or not the operation was successful. If it was successful, the client could have logic to show HD content options to the viewer.  If the acquisition was unsuccessful, then the client could restrict viewing to only the SD content.

  • Can i back up icloud to a ext hard drive

can i back up my icloud on my iphone, ipod and mack pro to an external hard drive

The best you can do is perform a backup of each device to itunes and then make a backup of the itunes data.  You can only access some of the icloud data directly, like contacts, etc., since that data is also in the various apps of a device (ical, contacts, etc.).  You can't access the actual backup file on icloud, nor photo stream.  Since, aside from backups, iCloud serves as a sync service between devices, the data found on icloud is also found on the devices.

  • Is it just me or was coming back to BT a big mista...

I received a call from BT in Jan of this year asking me if I would like to come back to BT for my phone calls(free evening and weekend) line rental and broadband for £24.95, from the very start it was a hassle (they told me it would be hassle free), can I give you my mack code! ehh not tonight we'll call you tomorrow night and then they didn't and then I had to a week later, calls such as this have been going on since then.
A week past saturday I phoned again this time to complain about my broadband usage! I am allowed up to 10gb (the kind BT advisor told me that 10gb would be more than enough for me as he had two kids the same as me and he set them the task of going over the 10gb each month and they couldn't do it) and I had received an email saying my usage was up to 21gb! I don't mind paying the extra but I wish BT had been straight with me at the start and put me on a better package, anyway as I said I spoke to the BT rep and explained my concerns to which he said please give me your mobile phone number and we will phone you back within 48 hours and sort it out, needless to say I am still waiting for that call.
I returned to BT on the promise of saying money so my question is was it a mistake to come back to BT ?

The mistake is in taking anything that sales people tell you at face value. 10GB is enough for web surfing, email and occasionally watching a program you've missed on BBC iPlayer or the ITV and Channel 4 equivalents.
Unfortunately, kids can use up vast amounts of bandwidth given the opportunity. There are people on this forum getting capped for going over 100GB/month.
Unfortunately, BT now have you trapped. Start paying monthly fees for going over the limit or switch to a more expensive package. Either way, BT wins.
The general rubbish customer service is all part of the BT experience. Just wait til you have to make a support call to India. I don't suppose other ISPs are really any better, unless you go for one of the premuim-priced ones.

  • How do I get my newer version of iPhoto back?

I had iPhoto 7.1 (got there just from normal software upgrades - no purchases) and it began having trouble opening. It would begin to launch then just crash. I decided I needed to reinstall iPhoto. When I FINALLY found out how to do that, it put me back at iPhoto 5 and now I can't open my library because I don't have the newer version, and I can't upgrade to the newer version because I have no "eligible iphoto" app available. How do I get back to where I was?

  • Is it possible to use two External HD to back up through time machine

when I go to System preferences and then select disk I am given three options
2 external HD's and time machine, I am currently not using Time Capsule
can I choose the 2 external HD's so one backs up the other or is this only possible to use an external HD when using the time capsule option which I assume is the wireless back up option for apple using wifi, this backs up everything linked to it I assume, my iphone, ipad, macbook and imac (if i chose to go down that route which seems like the place to go?)

  • How can i get my video back to camera roll

    hey guys
recently i tried to mail a friend a video of mine  ..anyway  the video got to him in  a greyed gif !!  idk how it just did
so am tryin to send it in another way the problem is i already deleted it from my camera roll
when ever i open my message i can see my video and i can play it  !!  but i can't save it back to my camera roll
it gives me only 2 options (copy/paste)   and that's it  !   So how can i get it back ^^
if uploadin a screenshot helps , please tell me to do so .

That's good but it is a lot simpler than that: Open iTunes, and connect your iPhone. Then go to your Phone, and choose "photoS" which should be at the very end. Select a folder on your Puter where you want to hold photos to be shared on your phone... and drag the movie mack in there. Notice that there is a selection that says "Inclide Videos" - So, drag the movie back into your shared folder, then hit SYNC - Boom, movie is back in  your phone!

  • I had to replace my hard drive due to a crash how do I transfer my music and playlists back to my itunes library?

I had to replace the hard drive on my laptop due to a total hard drive failure. Is there a way to transfer all my music (non purchased) and play lists back to the new drive?

    - Transfer iTunes purchases by:
iTunes Store: Transferring purchases from your iPhone, iPad, or iPod to a computer
    - Transfer other music by using a thirdparty program like one of those discussed here:
Copy music from Ipod to new computer...: Apple Support Communities
    - Macke a backup of the iPOd by connecting the iPod to the computer and right clicking one the iPOd under Devices in iTunes and select Back Up
    - Restore the iPod from that backup
I do not think the playlists will be restored.

  • Got the sound back now how can I get my video back to normal?

Thanks for your help on Sunday.  I am sorry I could not get back to the forum sooner but I came down with a virus and was feeling pretty bad.
I did take the advice regarding the sound and it is back up.  ( it is always the little things)  It turned out to be the hardware accelerator needed to be unchecked.
This has been a pretty slow process but slowly I am getting adobe running again.  That last problem with adobe flash is the streaming is taking for ever.
That was not an issue before.  When this happened I wrote to the people that have the apps and they told me I had the wrong version of adobe.
It turned out after I took adobe off and put it back on again, that I had the right adobe on all along.  Why would videos all of a sudden just slow down to a crawl.
I do a dick cleanup and I also have refreshed explore when things slow down.  Do you have any other suggestions for me.
Thanks so much for any help that you can give me
    Kelly

  • Mackie Universal Controller

    Hello again,
I am re posting yesterday's query to solicit even more feedback. Thanks for the very helpful feedback thus far ... all very helpful and appreciated. I was hoping to get more feedback before laying out that kind of cash .....
    Here's the post:
    Cheers
    Hello logic guru`s.
I am looking to get a controller to save me time in mixes and edits ...
Anyone have any input on options ... what`s worked well and what doesn`t work?
The two I am looking at are the Mackie and the Jazz Mutant.
I did a cursory seach and read some of the other posts, but know that issues come and go over time.
Any more current advice or comments are much appreciated.
    Cheers
    Dee

    Hi Bee Jay,
Thanks for feedback. I usually check the search before posting to annoyance. I did in this case ... and it was previous discussions that put the Mackie in the back of my mind for future. Just soliciting feedback re recent OS and pro apps upgrades - as well as Jazzmutant Dexter controller. No word on the later so it sounds like the Mackie is the way to go.
    Cheers

  • Connecting a Mackie 1202VLZ Pro to a MB Pro

I want to record voice only and the built in mic is a bit tinny sounding. Is it possible to hook up the Mackie 1202 VLZ using a phono/ 1/4" to mini coming out of the line out on the board and connection to the MB Pro through the line in locate next to the headphone jack. I don't want to blow the sound card so I thought I'd ask before doing something stupid. If I can do this I have a very good Earth Works mic that will give me studio quality recording capability. Once again I would connect the board using a phono jack l*ine out* to mini *line in* on the laptop. Will there be any problem doing this?

Thanks for the advice. The hesitation to venture forward is because the Mackie Board is an older analog mixer and the condenser mic I'm using requires phantom power. The board would be sending 48 volts dc down to the mic . If that much power got back into the laptop I'm sure the result wouldn't be optimal. I see 90+ have taken a look at this query and you are the only one to post a reply. Thanks for taking the time. Maybe I'll just hook up an SM 58 and take it for a test. No phantom power needed on that one.
Not having a definite answer to the original question I went ahead this weekend and used the built in Mic for the authors we needed to get recorded for the project. I used the computer because the Zoom Recorder they were using stopped working. In order to preserve production schedule I didn't want to take a chance of killing the laptop by mismatching components, thereby, ending any chance of completing the project on schedule. Tomorrow will be the first day I can be without the MBP if It does damage the machine.
