Backing up email folders

How do I back up all my BT Yahoo email folders, and their contents, either to my computer or to external storage plugged into Drive E? How do I find out how much storage I need for each folder before I start?
Thanks
As simply as possibe so I can understand step-by-step.

Are you already using a local email client (such as Thunderbird, Outlook Express, Windows Mail, Opera)?
If so they will already have a local directory containing everything, which you can look in to see how large it is.
But from what you say, it sounds as if you are doing all your mail using the web mail client in your browser?
If not, I think the only way is to set up such a client.  That would be best done using IMAP, which will just replicate all your Yahoo email data onto local storage, and should keep the folder structure.    It isn't very hard to set up but not easy to give step-by-step instructions.  I'm sure there are some around on the internet somewhere but can't see them (can someone else help here?).  If you don't get a more direct response after a bit I'll try.....
I don't know the BT Yahoo mail well enough to know if there is an easy way to find out the approximate storage you willl need.  Mine with my wife's is nearly 3Gb total, but that includes mail going back more than 10 years, with lots of messages containing photos and other large attachments.  Most people's email would probably take up much less space, but ...???

Into one of the domain accounts, or a specific mailbox in a domain account, that's your choice but:
Remember that you are moving mail over the internet, and you are uploading (slower). If the quantities are large you must use caution.
    1. Copy, don't move, in the event of a failure the original will still exist, delete it later.
    2. Limit copies to <500 emails
    3. Single copy operations are more reliable than multiple.
    Take your time.
Thanks, but impractical. Many of the folders have more than 500 emails. Total is about 2 GB (which I have free on iCloud btw)
I tried creating a folder "Archive" in my iCloud, then tried dragging one iMac folder into the new "iCloud > Archive" folder on my iMac. I got the error message:
Some items could not be created:
The IMAP command “CREATE” failed with server error: Invalid mailbox name.

  • How to get back the emails from an old hard drive that has no more OS ?

    Hello,
    My computer crashed recently.
The problem came from Windows somehow. So the hard drive is fine.
since windows couldn't be repaired I just copied a disk image backup to a new hard drive.
The problem is that I lost all the emails that were recieved between the moment I did my backup and now.
I can still access the folder :
    %USERPROFILE%\Application Data\Thunderbird\Profiles\XXXXXXXX.default\Mail\
How can I use the files in that folder in order to get back my emails in Thunderbird ??
    thanks for your help!

Thunderbird mail is stored in MBOX files. these will be locted in the mile folder (well sub folders) along with an MSF index of their contents with the same name.
This add-on https://addons.mozilla.org/thunderbird/addon/importexporttools/ will import MBOX files. Once installed it adds an entry to the bottom of the Tools menu.

  • My email folders on iCloud mail are missing

I have a new IPad Mini. All of my email folders are now missing after restoring from ICloud backup.
Any help is appreciated. Thank you!

Force-close the Mail app (double-tap the home button, swipe up on the Mail app to close it, tap the home button again), then reset it (hold the sleep/wake and home buttons at the same time until you see the Apple logo, then release.  Check Mail.
If the folder still aren't there, but they appear in Mail on iCoud.com, sign out of your account: Go to Settings>iCloud, tap Sign Out, choose Delete from My iPad and provide your password when prompted (your data will still be in iCloud), then sign back in and check your Mail.

You need 10.7.2 to run iCloud, but there are ways to manually setup email on 10.6.8, and if you want contacts & calendars in addition to email that also can be done, but not for free.
Here is a how to for mail.
If you want to use the contacts and calendars post back.

  • How can I retrieve email folders that were deleted in Thunderbird?

I had downloaded email folders from a webmail acct. I was adjusting the address for Thunderbird to obtain emails and when I looked back, the 4 folders of emails had been deleted. Can they be retrieved? If not is, there a way to undelete files on the hard drive with Windows 7?

    old website server -
Connect to server by resetting the account details to the correct orginal settings and subscribe to see folders.
Then synchronize all folders, so you keep a copy on the computer.
'Keep messages for this account on this computer' should be checked if you want to synchronize messages between your local system and your mail server.
    see:
    https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/imap-synchronization#w_configuring-synchronization-and-disk-space-usage
When all folders have been synchronized you will have a copy of all emails and folders on your computer in your profile., but they can still be altered if they resynch with server.
So, go into 'offline' mode, which will stop any connecting with server.
In offline mode (two black screen icon shows in bottom left of Status bar), move all folders with emails into Local Folders.
Local folders is a special default account in your profile folder. The folders and emails in Local Folders are on your computer and will no longer be connecting to the server.
Do not change/modify the old imap account settings. When you are certain that all emails are in Local Folders, remove/delete the mail account.
    Tools > Account Settings
select the old imap mail account name
    click on 'Account actions'
    select : Remove account'
    click on OK
Create a new imap mail account for the new server settings. As folders are viewed remotely, these emails are on the server, so when you create a new imap mail account to connect to that server, you will see all your subscribed folders and their emails.
You can continue to see old emails in Local folders.
New Imap mail account will show the new emails in that mail account.

  • Updated to OS X 10.9.2, why are my email folders in "On My MAC" are empty?

I just updated to OS X 10.9.2 last night.  I couldn't find some of my personal email folders.  I finally found them in "On My MAC"; however, the email folders are empty - all the emails that were previously filed in those folders are missing.  How do I get these emails back in my folders?

I have submitted feedback several times during the past few years and never received a response on this topic.
This inability to recognize the importance of this feature to the average business smartphone user is pure practical blindness on Apple's part.  Ask any real business man or woman who has made the change to the iPhone and they will tell you that this is the one feature that makes them not love their iPhone 100 percent.  Ask any well informed business person why they have not switched over to the iPhone and the lack of this "should be standard" feature will be near if not on top of their list of reasons.
This will lead me right back to a Windows based smartphone along with all of my employees and vendors which I influence.  All the fun stuff focus and ignoring this basic business function will continue to cost Apple a big share of the business user market.  They could dominate if they listened to some real business users.
Very sad.  Great potential ignored and lost.

  • Mtn Lion ate my emails/folders!!!

WTH?!? I "upgraded" to Mtn Lion, and all my Mail folders with stored emails are gone??? Can I get them back?? Obviously I was saving valuable emails . . . do ya think?!?

If you open your Mail app, just to the left of each of the "Inbox", Sent" and Trash" folders in the left hand column, when in "Classic View" format, is a little triangle.  Click on each of those three triangles and the folders should Open, showing the folders inside of them, which should be your old email folders with your old emails.  Let us know if this does not solve the issue.
    Hope this helps

  • Facebook notifications while using seperate email folders?

I don't use the primary message folder because I like my emails seperate. When I get a Facebook notification via email, it would typically be intercepted by the FB app and would go to the location on the FB app (Like messages or notifications). This doesn't happen anymore when I hid the primary message folder and only used the individual email folders. Is there any way to fix this? It annoys the fact that I can't just quickly click on the folder and see what's up. Now I have to go to the Facebook app itself and look there.
    Thanks!

I no longer have access to the back up email address I used when I set up my apple ID. I have since forgotten the answers to my security questions and am having a problem making changes to my account. What can I do?

You need to ask Apple to reset your security questions. To do this, click here and pick a method; if that page doesn't list one for your country or you're unable to call, fill out and submit this form.
They wouldn't be security questions if they could be bypassed without Apple verifying your identity.

  • Move email folders from one account to another . Both on Thunderbird

We have our email email on Thunderbird client at one domain name. We are switching the domain name (or rather shortening it) . How do I move the 500+ email folders to new domain without manual copy and paste?

Some possible options in no particular order:
    (1) Copy the folders to a SUB Thumb Drive.
    (2) Use Dropbox
    (3) If your Macs are compatible with AirDrop see list:
MacBook Pro (Late 2008 or newer)
MacBook Air (Late 2010 or newer)
    MacBook (Late 2008 or newer)
    iMac (Early 2009 or newer)
Mac Mini (Mid 2010 or newer)
Mac Pro (Early 2009 with AirPort Extreme card, or Mid 2010)
Activate AirDrop on both Macs to Move/Copy your Mail Folders.

No. You need to ask Apple to reset your security questions; ways of contacting them include phoning AppleCare and asking for the Account Security team, clicking here and picking a method for your country, and filling out and submitting this form.
