Backwards compatability CS5,CS4 and CS3

I have a client using CS3. He cannot open the files that we send him because of missing plug-ins, namely WORLDREADY.RPLN, DYNAMICDOCUMENTS.RPLN and CONDITIONALTEXT.RPLN.
My understanding is that these were plug-in that were added in CS4 and cannot be removed. Does this make my CS4 and CS5 files incompatable with older versions of InDesign? Are there any workarounds other than his upgrading his copy of InDesign or my saving files as INX format?

Saving as INX is the workaround.
You have to do this from CS4 (CS5 doesn't output INX), so if the original file was in CS5, you have to step down twice. Needless to say -- ye gods, I'm still going to say it! -- all new features of both CS4 and CS5 will be discarded from the file. To top it off, the text justification algorithm changed from CS3 to CS4, so even if your poor client can finally open the file, the chance he's going to see exactly what you last saw in InDesign is pretty slim.
Given this, you have two relatively harmless options left: buy an original CS3 to work for this client only, or have him upgrade.

  • Is it possible to make InDesign files created in CS5.5 backwardly compatible with CS4 and CS3?

I have recently installed CS5.5 on my iMac running Mac OSX Lion. I have documents that were prepared in CS3 and CS4. They read OK in CS5.5 but I cannot then save them to be read in the earlier versions. Any Ideas please?

You'll need to export to IDML to open in CS4. If you need them in CS3 you'll need to open the IDML in CS4 and export to INX. You can open the INX in CS3.
WARNING: New features will be lost or badly mangled and due to changes in the text engine text will reflow throughout your document.

  • Illustrator CS4 and CS3 crashing on two different mac's - can not save or print

We have two Macs running 10.5.6, with CS4 and CS3 installed. Both systems seem to be crashing today when trying to save, print, etc any file. Some files that were created in CS3 that are older seem to be opening and saving. But anything I know was worked on yesterday are having issues on both systems.
    Anyone have any ideas?
I have tried trashing the preferences, and also booting in safe mode and still get crashes.

I just tried an uninstall of Illustrator - then reinstall. Did not work either. Here is the report I am getting if anyone is interested:

  • Contribute CS4 and CS3 user compatibility

I recently had my school purchase 30 copies of CS3 witch I
manage their connections. I have no plans to upgrade to CS4 yet but
if one of my teachers purchases a copy they may only have the
option to buy Contribute CS4. Will this be a problem as far as my
ability to administer their connection and will this be a problem
for other CS3 users if I decide to upgrade. Will I need to go out
and purchase 30 more upgrades? I can't seem to find anything in the
tech docs yet and I am trying to be prepared for the
    problems.

    > one with CS4 and
    > the other with CS3, work on the same documents?
Yes, for the most part. Some things have changed, for example
    the markup
used when Flash is inserted, but as long as you aren't doing
    things like
that, you will be quite safe.

  • Compatability between CS4 and CS5 PPro?

    Hi
I'm working off CS4 and using mainly Premiere Pro. I'm also using Photoshop, Flash, Soundbooth from CS4 and using files from those applications in Premiere Pro. All good so far. My projects have a few layers but really nothing too complicated.
I work with someone who will eventually create the flash elements of our projects. To do this the company ordered further licenses for CS4 but we received CS5 instead.
If she loads CS5 onto her computer and creates Flash files (CS5) that I then use in Premiere Pro CS4, will it be compatible?
Also, if I want to then adjust that flash file in Flash CS4, will that work, or will I encounter problems?
Should we go with the CS5 or try and get another copy of CS4 for the new computer? (My computer needs to stay CS4)
    Thanks

If you are dealing with Exported files, there should not be any issues.
If you are dealing with the Project files (PRPROJ), then there is a one-way street, that usually works, but that will depend on what is used in the CS4 Projects. One can usually Open, or Import a CS4 Project into CS5, but it will be converted, so that converted Project will never likely open in CS4. Also, CS5 created Projects will never likely Open in CS4.
With Exported AV files, there should not be an issue.
    Good luck,

So as far as Premiere is concerned you are importing Quicktime MOV files from Flash?
When you import MOV files into Flash they are frame-by-frame animations taking up frames on the timeline, either on the main stage or in a Movie Clip.  There is a limit in Flash in general to the number of frames you can have in a single animation, something like 16000 or 12000 frames.  Depending on your fps this could be a relatively short or longer amount of time that the animation will play.  I don't think there will be as many issues importing and exporting between Premiere Pro and Flash as there are with Flash CS4 and CS5 itself.  TLF is a framework for laying out text (Text Layout Framework) which allows you some functionality of InDesign-style text-box layouts such as multi-columns, tracking and kerning, etc.

I need to supply a sign manufacturer an Illustrator file for version cs2 but I run cs5. I can't find the export to cs2, cs3 etc in the save as or export menu items. • Going between CS4 and CS3

    Greetings,
Once you've created a composition in a CS4 version of a program such as After Effects, are you able to open the comp in the CS3 version?
I know this problem arises with Adobe Audition when going from Audition 3 to any prior version, and I'm looking to go back to CS3 from CS4 (far too many bugs and I'm finding it far too unstable)
    Thanks,
    Sarah

I work for a production company in Denver. I have CS4 at work and CS3 at home, and I was unable to bring my AE comp from 4 to 3. It said that AE comp was unable to open on 3 due to it being from a newer version. FYI, I had bugs and terrible preview playback and some bugs, Today I updated my NVidia driver, switched the playback quality to draft quality (by right clicking on the preview window), and put the Quality/Performance marker a step closer to performance on my NVidia Control panel, which was under the regular control panel. CS4 seems to be working great now.

  • PP Install fails for CS4 and CS3

    Hi,
I've been trying to install my licensed copy of CS3 on a machine that had 6.5 installed and ran fine.  After two days with no success, I decided I'd download CS4 and see if it installed.  No such luck.  The behavior is the same for both CS3 and CS4.  Setup begins in CS3 and goes through the extraction of the files, when the splash screen appears for initializing setup, it flashes briefly then goes disappears and exits.  In CS4, the "checking system profile" gets about 85% complete, then the initalizing setup splash screen appears for a moment and disappears  The checking system profile remains on the screen and the process is hung.
Machine is a 3.4 Ghz Dell with 2GB RAM, SATAII hard drive with plenty of space, video is Intel integrated. XP professional service pack 3.
    Here's what I've tried:
    1) Cleaned up and removed every Adobe application on the machine, then run the CS3Cleaner at levels 1,2,3,4.
    2) Used ccleaner to remove and repair all registry related issues.
    3) Used msconfig to disable all startup commands.
    4) Updated to the latest Intel Graphics Accelerator/driver and latest chip drivers for the video.
    5) Removed most applications.
Still seems like a conflict to me, but I can't think of anything short of reinstalling XP.  I'm at wit's end and refuse to reinstall XP from scratch just to figure out something that should be apparent to me from the installation.  The windows event log gives the message that the software was successfully installed and the add/remove programs has an entry for CS3.  When I click remove, I get a prompt for debugging in Visual Studio.
I've rebooted, cleaned, retried about 40 times.  No, I'm not exaggerating.
    HELP! and TIA!

Found the answer in another post:
    http://kb2.adobe.com/cps/407/kb407428.html
I had to use solution 3 modifying the javascript install.  I still haven't figured out what is interrupting the screen call for the install.  I had to modify the js file for the install of Encore too.  Oh well, it's working!

  • Cs4 and cs3 to cs5

I have illustrator 3 and indesing 3 and photoshop 4 and wish to upgrade... can I do this with a cs5 upgrade?
    thanks
    Don

    Hi, Don,
You can upgrade each product individually to its CS5 version for $199 per product. Or you can upgrade one product to a full Creative Suite such as Creative Suite Design Standard, which includes Photoshop, Illustrator, InDesign and Acrobat, for $849.  Here's a link to a page that describes your upgrade options:

  • Backwards Compatibility CS5.5 CS5.

I downloaded the trial of CS5.5 to use on my new iMac, and from what I've seen it worked fine.
But  I took an InDesign file to college with me, where we have CS5, and it  wouldn't open. It said that some plug-ins were missing.
How can I make my files backwards compatible?
If they're supposed to be compatible, then have you any other suggestions for why this doesn't work?
If  they're not backwards compatible, then what the hell are Adobe playing  at? It's not even a full version upgrade, and yet the files don't work  with the last one?
    Thanks in advance.

This has been discussed to death. You need to export to IDML and open that.
Your CS5.5 IDML will open in CS5 or CS4. Caution is advised.

  • Illustrator CS4 and CS3 freeze when saving a PDF as an AI file

I'm trying to pull apart a couple of PDFs into layers to import them into After Effects. I do this all the time and it's a pretty standard thing which I haven't had any trouble with before, but for the last couple of days whenever I try to save the PDF as an AI file, the damn thing freezes - I get the washing machine of death (I'm on Vista), the program goes greyed out and I have to restart it, losing all the changes. I've tried the following, none of which seem to make any difference:
    - Saving to a different drive (C as opposed to an external USB drive)
    - Trying to open the PDFs in CS3 rather than CS4
    - Trying a couple of different PDFs
I can't reinstall Illustrator as I'm not at the office until the new year and don't have the disks. The PDFs are small (300k or so) and so it shouldn't be their size making the machine hang, surely? I've attached a sample. Specs are - dual core Dell M6300 laptop, 2.6GHz, 4GB RAM, Quadro 1600 graphics.
Any ideas would be very gratefully received....

Sorry I haven't replied in a few days (I'm at my parents' house for Christmas, so not the ideal place to sort out Illustrator problems )
This is REALLY weird. I was wondering whether Illustrator would be able to save PDFs (which are after all basically the same thing as AI files for this purpose) to get around the problem that way. I tried: it saved the thing fine. Next I tried saving what I'd just saved as a PDF, as an AI file. It saved it in a flash without any problems. (This is with the trashed prefs file - I haven't tried reinstating it, yet.) I've just loaded up a 14Mb AI file, and saved it again without trouble.
There's only one thing I can think of that has been changed since the last time I tried this, when Illustrator wasn't working. This is something which was definitely affecting Word 2007: I've deleted a couple of network printers that were on nonexistent IP addresses. (Word wouldn't load anything, even the most basic of docs - it just froze; washing machine of death, grey screen, etc.) The default printer is thus now a Canon USB thing, which isn't plugged in either, but which Windows seems happy to carry on without. Word seemed unable to continue with the network printers installed, as presumably it was trying to contact them and failing. Could Illustrator have been falling into the same trap??
Anyway, whatever the problem, it seems to be working OK now. Thanks both and hope you have a merry Christmas and New Year period.

  • Can I run AE CS4 and CS3 on same system? +Ram Q's

I haven't been able to teach my motion graphics course in a year so I am behind on AE doings and the state budget cuts cancelled the purchase of my new laptop SO I only have CS3.  I am scrambling to make this course work!!
Q:  Can I run AE CS3 and CS4 on the same system?  (we have CS4 on some lab machines but some students have only CS3 at home)
Q:  Blimpo AE CS4 says it needs "2Gb RAM" vs CS3's "1Gb RAM for DV" (our application) - will CS4 even install and start w/o 2Gb?  If so, can one at least do simple, straightforward work with 1Gb or is it hopeless?
Thanks for any help you can provide.

"Simple, straightforward work" is very much a matter of definition. As long as we talking basic title, menu and background design at SD resolutions (PAL/ NTSC) or below (web) without resorting to oversized source files, it might work to a degree. I doubt, however, you will ever be abel to do anything remotely HD. Memory errors and warnings will be a constant companion....

  • Creative Suites CS4 and CS3

        Hello!
Maybe it is a dummy question about the nature of Creative Suite licensing
    but.
I am working along with a team now, and everyone uses flash CS3, I "only" have flash CS4 (in a CS4 design premium).
It is very unconfortable to save in CS3 format every time, the flash CS4 has a built in system to make it very annoying and
uncomfortable, cannot "save and compact" in CS3 format, and after saving for CS3, the flash CS4 slows down like hell,
so everytime I have to restart it, and for long time now I am still tired of "understand" the long and undesired text before each save, what
the heck the flash alerts me, and how to save in CS3 format, and how to run into saving back to CS4 accidentally. And why I cannot save into
CS3, if the file is already in CS3 format, why flash wanna automatically upconvert the file.. Aaaaaa!!!!
    My question:
my CS4 design premium license is capable to help me in installing a CS3 version of flash (or out of a CS3 design premium pack), for that project??
Is there any way to achieve this??

You have created a fairly unusual situation!
I would first try runnning the CS3 Clean Script to see if that can remove it without damaging the CS4 installation. It may not.
Otherwise I can only think of:
    Un-install CS4 normally
Run CS4 clean script, a couple of times if necessary.
    http://www.adobe.com/support/contact/cs4clean.html
It should also detect CS3 remnants , if not run CS3 clean script.

Manually remove any Adobe folders remaining – they may be in more places than C:\Program files!
Run a good registry cleaner like CCleaner.
Start again with a fresh installation.
