Bad Quality in Canvas and Exported Movie

Hi,
I'm a new user of FCE. I want to use it for presentation of my software on the internet. I have a screencapture video in quicktime format. The resolution is 1008x744px. This quality is perfect.
If i use this Video in a sequenz, the quality in Canvas or in the saved QuickTime Video is terrible.
What can I do to improve the quality?
Thanks for the help...

If you are displaying the whole screen it will look bad and there is no way of avoiding it.
It is caused because your screen is probably 1200 pixels (or more) wide but a DV image is only around 700 pixels wide so you are losing a tremendous amount of detail.
To make matters worse, much of the fine detail on the screen will probably shimmer or flicker because the video is interlaced.
You can reduce this by using the De-interlace Filter but the overall quality of the image will still be poor.
The only way I ever achieved reasonably sharp results was to show no more than half the screen at any one time. If you do that your results will be OK.

  • FCP 7, viewer clear, but canvas and export blurry

Started with screen recordings provided to me that made using quicktime 10
took quicktime 10 screen recordings and converted them to prores422 HQ in compressor (settings from compressor below)
    imported into FCP 7.
They look great in viewer, reasonably sharp and crisp, but them very blurry in canvas and when I export to quicktime movie (not using quicktime conversion). Been using FCP 7 a couple years but my knowledge in many aspects is sub professional.
Tried creating a new sequence to get the sequence to match the settings of the quicktime prores422 screen capture movies but to no avail. The settings of the sequence are not the same as the screen capture movies...I even tried to change the sequence settings but no luck (then exited FCP without saving so as not to screw anything up).
Im probably breaking basic rules here...any help is greatly appreciated.
    Thank you!!!
Compressor settings for file conversion above:

Here is additional information on the problem.
My sequence includes mostly screen captures, but also some other video (settings below) and some JPEGs.  The other video and the JPEGs look fine...both in canvas and when I export sequence to quicktime.  The screen captures look terrible...text is very blurry.  Same screen captures look fine in my viewer, just goes awry when in canvas and export.
Format of screen capture clips (quicktime 10 screen capture > compressor prores 422 HQ):
1440x900, apprle prores 422 HQ, data rate 5.6 MB/S, pixel aspect square, field dominance none, composite normal.  Started with 4 files of the screen capture from compressor, then edited them into many little pieces in FCP...the size of those files post compressor are around 2GB each.
The sequence (by default) had settings of:
frame size: 720x480 NTSC DV 3:2
pixel aspect ratio: NTSC - CCIR 601 / DV 720x480
    field dominance lower(even)
quicktime compressor settings: apple prores 422 LT
Vast majority of clips are the same as screen capture clips.  But just in case its part of the problem, I have also have a couple video clips of that have settings:
    frame size:  720x480
    compressor:  DV/DVCPRO - NTSC
    data rate 3.6mb/s
pixel aspect: NTSC - CCIR 601
    field dominance: Lower/even
also have a couple JPEGs, their settings are:
    frame size 2500x2084
    compressor: photo-jpeg
    field dominance: none
Thank you!!!  I've been using final cut a while, but don't think I would have gotten anywhere without the help and generosity of people that are way beyond my knowledge and skills.  I am happy to provide any more info.  I really appreciate it.

  • How do I export my iMovie '11 video and burn it to a DVD? I've tried 'Share' - 'Media Browser', 'iDVD', and 'Export Movie' but always get an error message indicating that my movie is too long to publish. Thoughts?

How do I export my iMovie '11 video and burn it to a DVD? I've tried 'Share' - 'Media Browser', 'iDVD', and 'Export Movie' but always get an error message indicating that my movie is too long to publish. Thoughts? Additionally, what does 'File' 'Finalize Project' do?

Instead of Share to Media Browser, what happens if you try Share Menu > Export Movie... (choose Large size) and save it to the Desktop?
If that fails try Share Menu > Export using QuickTime...
Then pick Movie to QuickTime Movie, then click on Options... which is just to the right of Export
Under the Video section click on Settings...
Then in the pulldown menu at the top, titled Compression Type: Choose Apple Intermediate Codec. Then click OK. And click OK again, and save it to the desktop. Once the .mov file is created, you can import that into iDVD and most likely it will work in Wondershare Creator if you prefer to use that instead.

  • Extreme poor quality in full screen preview and exported movie

I have spend evenings and evenings to create the content of a project.
After dealing with error -108 and extreme poor quality in full screen preview and in exported movies (extreme stuttering) I decided to install my iMac new again.
The error -108 disappeared, but the extreme stuttering still remained in full screen preview and in exported movies.
If I make the preview screen in the iMovie browser as big as possible there is nothing to see of any stuttering.
Now I am getting pretty annoyed and have no clue what to do anymore (how to solve this problem) .....
    Anyone any suggestion ?
The orginal video was recorded with a Panasonic HD camcorder.
I do have a mid 2011 iMac with 16GB ram and 256GB SSD and 1TB HD with a complete clean installation
of OS X Lion and iLife. This configuration should be enough to create a proper movie :-(

Potentially, yes. The standard Preview is 1024 pixels, longest size. Some people (like Omke) have displays 2560 pixels longest side, potentially increasing file size by over 500%.

No. I'm saying I have a collection of irregularly dimensioned
    images (none
wider or taller than 225Wx150H). I want them all saved on a
    canvas that has
those dimensions so that I can rotate them without having
    screen jitters. I
do not need to resize any of these images, only to add canvas
    as needed.

    Chris,
I have a Matrox MXO2 Mini, and I've experienced crashes with Final Cut Pro X, Share > Export Movie that were caused by a specific Matrox QuickTime component installed on my Mac. Your crashes may be caused by a different third-party QuickTime component, but here's what I did. You may use this as a guide to see if the same or different QuickTime component on your system could be causing the crashes.
Here's what I did to eliminate the crashes:
    1. Go to /Library/QuickTime
    2. Find the com.matrox.vpg.AvcCodec.component file
    3. If it exists, then move it to a different folder like your Desktop
    4. Restart Final Cut Pro X
    5. Try Share > Export Movie
    6. If it still crashes, try dragging out other third-party QuickTime components that you see in /Library/QuickTime
It took me a few tries to determine exactly which QuickTime component was causing the crashes. You may have additional components in your /Library/QuickTime folder that are causing your crashes. That means that you may need to drag more component files out from the /Library/QuickTime folder to your Desktop until the crashes stop. Once the crashes stop, you can drag component files back into the /Library/QuickTime folder until the crashes start again. This process is a bit of trial and error, but I was able to fix my own problem with a bit of persistence.
I was experiencing crashes 100% of the time, but now that I removed the offending QuickTime component, I get 100% success rate when doing Share > Export Movie.
    Good luck!

  • Preview in Canvas and Quicktime movie export  low quality

    Hi Guys
I am trying to make a slideshow/movie using Final Cut Express HD 3.0 the preview in the canvas is very low quality both with the images and titles. I have tried to export to quicktime movie but that movie is still very low quality. They are not sharp and are pixelated. The images look fine with Preview and iPhoto. I do not have quicktime pro I don't know if that has anything to do with it.
    Thanks a bunch

This comes up pretty off and was discussed in the last couple of days. You might do a forum search. Basically you'll looking at a lores display unless you look at the output on a video monitor.

  • Poor sound quality in timeline and export; fine in Source?

    Hello all.
Newbie to Pr but experienced pro in digital audio. I'm stumped and know I'm just missing something somewhere.
I've made a music video for one of my songs. The graphics are all done (in AE), imported to Pr and eveything looks great. I import the final mix of the audio and it sounds very low quality when played from the timeline and in the final output, regardless of format (I've tried several presets and custom settings as well). I played around and noticed that the audio sounds fine when played from the Source window inside Premier.
The Pr session is comrised of 18 video tracks (not all playing at once, of course) and one stereo audio track.
I've tried re-exporting the audio from Logic at different bit depths, sample rates and file formats (mp3, wav, AAC, etc) but the results are the same every time: Source (Pr)sounds fine, Logic output sounds fine, rendered / timeline playback sounds like very low quality mp3 and final product sounds just as bad.
I've tried everything I can think of. I hope one of you can show me what I'm missing.
    TIA!

    Thank you for the reply!
I was experiencing the same results no matter what export settings I used. Plus the poor sound quality was present in the timeline itself, without even exporting the project.
I finally threw my hands up, started a completely new project, drug the same audio file in... sounded fine. Copied / Pasted the video clips from the original, broken project and boom, eveything is fixed. Yeah, corrupted Pr file it turns out. All I had to do was start a new project and import all the old components.
I've had to do this in Logic a lot (increasingly, these days). I just wish I'd tried it 10 hours earlier! Ha.
Anyway, problem solved, and thanks very much!

  • Bad quality footer in PDF export

I have been using pages for a while and find it really handy for the day to day's work. But I found an apparent limitation:
I often use footers that are really small (8pt) and in a light font (Helvetica Neue light). When I export my file to PDF (both, with the PDF export functionality and with via the printer and "safe as pdf ..."), the quality of the footer is always really bad - like with a bad resolution. The rest of the text is ok, just the footer ... what could that be?
    Tanks for any help.

I'm having the same problem. Creating a PDF (print->preview, export, or print->save as pdf) for a document that contains any font sized 8 point or lower results in really poor quality output... blocky non anti-aliased fonts.
This happens with multiple fonts (Helvetica, Helvetica Neue, Garamond, Futura, etc). Raising the size to 9 point or greater gives high quality output.

  • Help... Losing Camcorder quality when importing and exporting using iMovie

    First off im sure other people have noticed the same problem as me, but heres the problem;
I have a Sony HD camcorder which uses there normal AVCHD format, which iMovie supports so i dont have any problem getting the footage on there, editing it and getting it off to wherever...
I did a test the other day and played footage back via HDMI directly from the Camcorder to the HDTV, and the quality is excellent, it is truly HD quality, however... if i play the same footage that has gone through iMovie... Exported to iTunes and then played and on HDTV via my Apple TV 3rd Gen (Over ethernet not wifi) the quality is no where near as good, it doesnt look HD at all, so somewhere along the line the quality is being completly lost, i want to use iMovie and iTunes to have my movies on the iPad etc and for convinience with the ATV, but whats the point in having a HD camcorder if somewhere along the Apple process this quality is clearly all being lost.
Is this going to be a case of i either have the convience and editing (iMovie, iTunes & ATV) or i have the quality and just play the oringal footage from the camcorder to the TV

  • FCP preset and Exporting movie codec setup?

    Hello all,
I am using Canon 5D mark II to take the video clips, and editing them by FCP. The original video format from 5D2 is H.264, fps 30, .mov format. At the begining, I transfer it to ProRes422 format, and then edit it in FCP.
I am not familiar with the codecs, Can anyone teach how to setup the FCP Video/Audio Setting, the Sequence Preset and Capture Preset for my 5D Mark II video?
On the other hand, when I finish editing, I don't know what kind of codec and file format is better to make the file size smaller and also has good quility for exporting, please give me some advices! thanks!

Make a new sequence. Drag one of your converted ProRes clips into the timeline before you do anything else. You should get the option to change the sequence to match the clips. Do it.
As far as exporting goes there's no way to answer that without knowing where you're trying to get to when you export.

  • When i add an effect and export movie a black flash happens when i play back the movie

tell us what your clip settings and sequence settings are, in particular codec and frame rate..  And what effects are you applyin?

  • Bad Quality Macbook Pro and Deficient Apple Technical Support in Argentina!!!

I have a Mac Book Pro that I bought a year ago and the last couple of months have been working really bad!
I sent it to the technical support and they told me they have to change several parts of it. After 2 months I'm still waiting for a response using a terrible slow machine that works like crap.
This was my first Macbook Pro and I was happy that I wouldn't have so many problems as in my previous Ubuntu PC but now I realized how silly I was, components from this Macbook Pro seems to be really bad and getting it fixed in countries like Argentina is almost impossible.
I'm a computer engineer and I've been really unpdroductive during the last months, so this make me consider the idea of going back to Linux or even a Windows Machine, since having a Macbook Pro proved to be a terrible experience for someone who really needs to trust in their computer.
I'm travelling to San Diego next week, does anybody know how can I fix this problem there or something?
    Thanks in advance!

Sorry eww about that, I'm not sure what parts need to be replaced apart from the logic board (it seems that is the motherboard + microprocessor).
I'm not sure mac users can do something to help me, but I was expecting that after my experience other people willing to have mac support in Argentina realizes that it's really bad!
    Thanks again for your interest!

  • Quick Time Pro and exporting movie files

With Quicktime Pro do you have to purchase Flip for Mac for people with Windows Media Players or Realtime players to be able to view it?
I've heard of something called AV files. Does Quicktime Pro export a file in some version that can be read by other players, or do I have to purchase some software?

People with Windows can get the free QT Player for windows and view your QT files that way. One version of Flip4mac will allow you to start with QT and output WMV files. Those would play in Windows Media Player. AVI files might or might not depending on the codec used inside the AVI container.
There is lots of QT media on the internet, and Windows users just download and install the QT player at no cost and then can watch downloaded or streaming QT media.

Agree, have same problem with barcodes and other. You have to zoom in really large to get the barcode look like it is. In Apple Preview there is no such problem. Maby there is a setting in acrobat to fix this but have not found it yet. A fix of this would be nice.
