Badly boot camped disaster

I have to reset someones iMac but I have been bumping into some problems.
It was badly Boot Camped by a friends son back in 2011.
So badly that he didn't even install the support software.
Running Windows 7 32 Bit Ultimate which is functional but the issue is that the Mac partition has kind of vanished.
Alt at start up brings up EFI, Windows and Recovery options but when I try to use disk utility to try some repairs/wipes the Mac partition is showing but grayed out.
Verify says the partition needs to be repaired but the repair always fails and attempts to erase the HDD fail due to it being unable to unmount the partitions.
Any clue as to why this happened and hopefully a suggestion about how on earth I can fix this mess?

I get three options, EFI, Windows and Recovery.
When I go the recovery route Disk Utility shows the Mac partition but it is greyed out.
Both Verify and Repair fail but when I try to erase the data and go full recovery it says that it cannot unmount the volume.
I suspect that it is the windows partition that is stopping me but since I cannot get into the mac partition I cannot remove Boot Camp I cannot proceed.
Since the windows partition works the hardware must be fine.
Any idea how I can resurrect the mac partition as I'm at a loss here.

Boot camp disaster - need help

I followed the proceedure exactly as required, including starting with OS X version 10.4.6, downloading and upgrading firmware, printing the pdf manual for Boot Camp etc. But when it came to partitioning the drive I selected 10 GB Windows XP the rest OS X. Something went wrong after that and I ended up with the Windows being the only drive I can get at. Of course it's sort of half installed and buggered as well.
I just want to re-format my entire HD and re-install OS X by itself and restore my beloved Mac. What was I thinking trying to run windows on my machine. It suddenly felt like owning a PC again. What a wretched flashback.

Looks like I found the answer to my situation. To completely re-format your Macintosh HD and perform a clean install you need to :
a. with computer on insert Mac OSX Disk # 1
b. hold power button until computer shuts down
c. turn power back on and immediately push and hold down
the 'c' key until you see the apple logo and hear media
drive spinning up.
d. When Install options show up choose Utilities from the
file menu and select the erase tab and choose the formatting options you wish.
e. When complete, reinstall you operating system.
It's a lengthy process, but this will save your machine.

HELP!!! Boot Camp Disaster

hey you guys, i recently got a macbook pro and i tried to install the boot camp program. everything ran fine, but when i ran the xp installation cd, it wouldn't let me hit enter to continue the install. i tried to hit f3 to quit, but no response. i eventually turned my macbook off by pressing & holding the power button. when i turned it back on, i ejected the cd. now there's a message that says, "no bootable device--insert boot disk and press any key" at this point i just want to go back to my normal os x settings. i don't want to mess with xp as of now. cany you guys help me? by the way, the cd i inserted was the reinstallation cd for windows xp. is that where i went wrong? help me please! i want my old settings back.

OK so I have the same original problem.
I try to install XP on a MacBookPro using Boot Camp - The XP installer loads a lot of stuff into memory and then asks me to press a key to tell it what to do next. At this point the keyboard seems dead and I so I can't progress into the installation phase.
So I worked out for myself how to recover a working MacOS system but this doesn't alter the fact that I can't install XP.
I tried the Firmware 1.0.1 update and I also tried plugging in an external USB keyboard - but no joy.
Has anyone else encountered this problem and/or found a work-around?

you can't add or mofidy partition numbers. especially not if and once you have windows installed.

Paragon CampTune is a commercial product that is designed expressly for this task. http://www.paragon-software.com/home/camptune/ It consists of a downloadable ISO that needs to be burned to a disc and booted from in order to resize the partitions costs US$19.95.
Securing Dual-System Configuration
Imaging is still the most affordable and robust way to secure computer data. Unfortunately Mac OS X backs up only HFS+ volumes, leaving Windows with dual-system configurations unsecured. You can permanently lose all of your data unless you have a Windows-compatible backup solution.
Paragon’s CampTune and Paragon’s Drive Copy for Mac can secure the entire dual-system configuration. CampTune creates traditional images of volumes or entire hard disks, Drive Copy can copy them to other disks. In case of an emergency, you can restore the previously created image or copy all your data back to its original state.
GParted Live
GParted Live is similar to CampTune as it is also distributed as a bootable image that needs to be copied to a CD/DVD or USB flash drive. As free and open source software, distributed under the GPL, it will always be available free. Coriolis Systems' iPartition is a £29.95 ($44.95 US) utility that runs in Mac OS X and allows resizing of all of the relevant partition formats, including HFS+, FAT32, and NTFS. As it is not capable of resizing the boot disk, it requires a bootable external disk or a boot DVD. (A tool to create a boot DVD is included.)

From the makes of CampTune is a commercial tool that is similar in functionality to GParted Live, but has a more polished/friendly user interface than GParted Live. Winclone/Disk Utility
Winclone is a free tool for creating and restoring backup images of your Windows partition. One of its key features is that it can restore to a larger partition than the one the image was created from.
NOTE: Winclone has been discontinued, but for now remains available and capable of completing these tasks (including creating and restoring Windows 7 images).

Disk Utility can resize HFS+ (Mac OS) partitions, but is currently incapable of resizing NTFS partitions, so you could use it to reduce the size of the HFS+ partition and create a new larger placeholder MS-DOS (FAT) partition
The full process would be:
Backup Windows partition with Winclone.
(if the new Windows partition is smaller than the old one make sure you set the preferences in Winclone to save the image as an uncompressed dmg)
Delete old Windows partition
Resize current Mac Partition
Create new Windows partition as MS-DOS (FAT) in free space after Mac OS partition.
(If the new Windows partition is smaller than the old one an additional step is required: shrink the filesystem on the image by selecting Tools->Shrink Windows (NTFS) Filesystem)
Reboot your computer for the new Windows partition to mount properly (winclone may not restore if you don't reboot)
Restore Winclone partition over new Windows partition

Native OS utilities
MR user Kazyua reports that you can use the disk management utilities provided with the current operating systems if you want to do it manually. Windows 7 and OS X both have partition resizing functions built in. In OS X, open Disk Utility and manually shrink the mac HFS+ partition by dragging the lower right corner. Then in windows go to the start menu and type "disk management" into the search box then hit enter. You should get an overview of the drives you have and the individual partitions. Right-clicking on the partition gives an "Extend Volume" option. The Windows NTFS volume should then be extended into the free space you created with Disk Utility. This method has not worked for other users, so try at your own risk.

Using windows XP. After replacing a bad keyboard apple special keys no longer work with Boot Camp 3.2

My Original keyboard (MB110LL/A) was damaged. I recieved a new keyboard (MB110LL/B) from the Apple Store online. Now none of the special Apple keys, volume up, volume down, eject, etc. work anymore. I have Boot Camp 3.3 installed on Windows XP. Boot Camp 3.3 requires Windows 7. I cannot get a replacement (MB110LL/A) keyboard anywhere.

Adding to the above: I also tried plugging in an Microsoft USB keyboard at the point when Windows freezes at the Windows log-in screen. The keyboard is not recognized and the only way I can leave this screen is to power-off the computer.

Windows 8 crashes in boot camp.... bad pool header

I continuously am forced to reboot window's 8 in bootcamp due to a blue screen. The majority of time the error states "Bad_pool_header" but there are times when it is another message.

you are running Windows.
Boot Camp (Assistant) partitions the drive, and in Lion downloads Windows Support software.
Lion 10.7.4 w/ Boot Camp 4.01 is the better choce.
With Windows you will always be on your own and need to update drivers.
Apple isn't going to until after 8 is either released or is finalized, and maybe only for Mountain Lion (guess based on past)

Cannot install windows 8.1 on imac 5k - apple support says "Correct, that machine can't install windows" Boot camp fail

I have a brand new imac 5k, with 4ghz i7, 295x GPU, 3.1TB fusion drive. Bought the machine so I could dual boot - I need windows for VR Dev work.
I've spent the last week and a half on tech support calls with Apple Senior Tech agents, and Microsoft agents as well, and today have been told that indeed this machine cannot run windows 8.1. Apparently Apple engineering knows about the issue, but says the problem is microsoft's. Ugh.
The latest iteration of the issue comes when installing 8.1 onto an external thunderbolt SSD (without even using boot camp) - I go through the EFI installer, convert the drive to GPT, format it as ntfs, but when I select the partition to install onto, the installer says it can't find the partition it just created. Smuh?
I've also tried the install through boot camp. This installation actually worked twice, but the install was unstable. After booting back into osX, then returning to Windows, the windows install went corrupt and couldn't be repaired. Subsequent attempts to install windows yielded a flurry of different errors, including "windows doesn't support GPT in this mode" or "the disk is locked, please unlock the disk" or "MBR must be converted to GPT" (where once I converted to GPT, the drive could no longer be found, despite the operation completing successfully.)
At any rate, it's a huge mess. I'd happily return the machine for a different config, but the company I bought it from will only swap it for a similar model -- so I've spent a pile on a machine that does not function as advertised; apple says "too bad, talk to Microsoft." Microsoft says "too bad, we've never seen this, this is an apple issue."
Has anyone out there gotten windows up and running on an iMac5k with fusion drive? If so, did you have to go through a crazy maze to make it work?

Windows 7 x64 Boot Camp 3.1 Nvidia 8600M GT problem

Hi,
I'm running windows 7 ultimate x64. I also run snow leopard and had the corresponding version of boot camp installed (3.0 I believe).
I installed bootcamp 3.1 when the apple software update suggested it. It said it installed but on reboot it has messed up my graphics card - in device manager it shows as an unknown device. I can't install any nvidia drivers (they just fail saying that nothing was altered), I've tried uninstalling bootcamp 3.1 and reinstallling 3.0 but it's still the same - no graphics drivers and I can't install any new ones?
How can I get the nvidia drivers to install? I've tried from all sorts of sources and no luck. I tried using drivesweeper to clean the drivers off (after uninstaling them) but on reboot it says the same ones are still there. What do I have to do to undo the damage Apple have done?

Hrm, it's been ages since the op, but here's my 2 cents.
I have a macbook pro with windows 7 ultimate x64 installed through bootcamp 3.1. Here is how I ensure clean driver installs.
1. Download Driver Sweeper
2. Install
(make sure to let driver sweeper run as admin)
3. Uninstall graphics driver
4. Reboot into safe mode
5. run driver sweeper
6. check nvidia display box
7. click analyze
(should list all the nvidia related files, folder, registry entries left behind)
8. click clean
9. reboot normally
10. reinstall desired graphics driver
(i use 197.16 w/out any problems so far)
11. reboot
Also, as a nice, but probably not necessary step, when I'm in safe mode and after I have used driver sweeper, I like to run Auglogics Boostspeed to do a quick junk file scan, track eraser scan, and advanced registry scan before I reboot normally. This is the method I use whenever I install/uninstall graphics drivers. I've never had to deal with bad installs since I started to use this method.
This method works with all driver types listed in driver sweeper and if it's something not listed in driver sweeper, I've found doing a reg/file clean in safe mode with a reliable cleaner does the trick.
If it's still not working I'd restore to before bootcamp installation or uninstall bootcamp and the graphics driver. Do a reg/file clean. Finally reinstall bootcamp, and restart from step 3 listed above.
IF IT STILL doesn't work out, I'd do a fresh reinstall following this guide:

Is anybody else struggling with an intermittent connection when using the Magic Mouse/Trackpad ONLY on Boot Camp?

Hi,
I've seen thousands of posts about Bluetooth connection issues and interference and stutter/lag for both the Magic Mouse and Trackpad (affecting both Mac OS X and Windows under Boot Camp) but my problem is different.
To summarise my setup, I use:
- Retina MacBook Pro (lid closed or open, doesn't make a difference to this problem)
- Thunderbolt Display
- Wireless Keyboard
- Magic Trackpad (have also tried a Magic Mouse and experience similar issues to the Trackpad)
And in Mac OS X, everything works perfectly. The keyboard and trackpad work smoothly when I'm 6-7 metres from the machine, whether or not the laptop lid is open or closed, and whether or not the Thunderbold Display is connected.
But on to my problem: the bluetooth connection is incredibly unreliable/intermittent when in Windows (I run Windows 7 64-bit and Boot Camp 4.0, and got both devices connected without any trouble via Bluetooth).
But during usage, the cursor stutters/lags frequently, and tap to click (when enabled) seems to get triggered by mistake all the time (even when I'm not touching the Trackpad or even at the computer, clicks get registered).
The Wireless Keyboard is perfect, and works well 5 metres from the machine. The Mouse and Trackpad, though, don't even work reliably when they are 6 inches from the machine. The built-in trackpad on the laptop works perfectly too, in Windows and Mac.
I spent a week assuming I was suffering from Bluetooth interference, so I tried:
- using the laptop with the lid open
- removing the Thunderbolt display completely and trying the Magic Trackpad
- repositioning items on my desk
- disabling wifi
All of these adjustments made minor differences to how good/bad the Trackpad was, but none came close to fixing the problem or making it work as smoothly as under Mac OS X. It was only after doing all of this that I realised perhaps it was just a Apple driver for Windows issue, so I booted into Mac OS X and tested everything out, and sure enough, it's all perfect. But back into Windows, the Trackpad doesn't work reliably at all.
Obviously, the hardware is not at fault, and I assume the signal strength doesn't vary between operating system (why would it?) so I'm left believing this must be a driver issue. The TrackPad and Magic Mouse drivers have been out for a couple of years, so I'm surprised they can still be this bad. I tried both the latest driver from Boot Camp 4.0 (3.2.0.0) for the Trackpad, and also the older one from Boot Camp 3.2 (3.1.0.7) and both are equally bad for me.
So my question is: has anybody else struggled with using the Trackpad (or Magic Mouse) with Boot Camp 4.0 and Windows 7 64-bit, whilst finding it to be perfect under Mac OS? I haven't found many posts complaining about the Windows driver, which is why I assumed it was an interference issue. But I'm almost sure it isn't, having spent 2 weeks investigating.
Any thoughts/suggestions/answers much appreciated!

SOLVED!
After much testing, I have found the cause of lagging/jumpiness on the Bluetooth Magic Mouse and Magic TrackPad in Boot Camp. Hopefully this will help others:
The drivers for the Broadcom 802.11n Wireless Adapter have a setting called "Bluetooth Collaboration" that is Disabled by default. Enabling this option removes the problem instantly. My Magic Trackpad now works flawlessly, even if I stand 6 metres from the machine. It now works just as well as under Mac OS. The setting can be found under:
Control Panel > Device Manager > Network Adapters > Broadcom 802.11n Network Adapter (right click and choose "Properties". Under the "Advanced" tab, highlight the setting named "Bluetooth Collaboration", then change it to Enable. Then click OK.
I narrowed the problem down to the wireless card by disabling ALL startup services and processes for Windows, then re-enabling one by one. As soon as I enabled the Windows Wireless Service, the problem came back. Similarly, disabling the Wireless Card inside the Network and Sharing Center (or Device Manager) removes the problem. This led me to believe it must be a driver issue with the wireless card, since the problem didn't occur with the Magic TrackPad under Mac OS, or on my mother's Windows 7 64-bit computer. So when I went into the Driver Properties to check for an update, I found this setting about Bluetooth Collaboration.
I really hope this helps others trying to use Bluetooth devices under Boot Camp. All Apple notebooks use the Broadcom card (and have done for years), so this driver is installed for almost anybody using Boot Camp on an Apple notebook. I'd assume this problem would affect anybody using Boot Camp + wifi + a Bluetooth device.

MacBook Pro 13" Late 2011 Experiencing Significant Slow Down After Boot Camp Installation

     Okay, so today, after installing Windows 7 on my MacBook Pro via Bootcamp Assistant, I experienced significant performance slow down (fans going at full blast, applications opening after extended periods of time, keystrokes not being registered) when I returned to my OS X partition/second hard drive. I have dual hard drives, one of them being a Samsung 256 GB SSD with OS X Mavericks and the other being my original 500 GB HDD, divided into a 250 GB OS X Mavericks partition and a 250 GB Windows partition. I have the SSD set as my startup disk and I have it located in the main HDD bay. I moved the old HDD into a caddy and placed it where the optical drive normally should be.
      After multiple failed attempts to install Windows via USB and Bootcamp Assistant, I decided to reinstall my optical drive and use a Windows installation disk. This attempt proved successful, and I was able to install Windows 7 onto the 250 GB partition I had created for it on the 500 GB HDD. After completing basic setup of Windows, I removed the optical disk drive and reinstalled the SSD and the HDD into their original spots (SSD in the main HDD bay, HDD in the caddy where the optical drive normally is).
     After completing this tedious process, I booted my Mac back up using the SSD. However, I noticed something was wrong when the login screen, apps, and nearly everything else on my desktop had slowed to crawl. I decided to check my Activity Monitor to see what the problem might be. Activity Monitor told me that the task "kernel_task" was taking up anywhere from 200-600% of my CPU, which explained the slowdown in performance. I looked around to see if there were others with the same problem as me, and I found that Spotlight Indexing might be an issue, with a potential remedy being move my Bootcamp Partition into the Privacy section of Spotlight under System Preferences. After doing that, I experienced no increase in performance and everything was still going very slowly.
     The next step I took was to see if booting into Safe Mode would help the issue. After booting into Safe Mode on my SSD, I noticed that things were back to their normal speeds, with applications opening at the speed they should be and keystrokes being registered instantaneously. However, the fans were still going and had not shut off once booting into Safe Mode. In addition, I checked Activity Monitor and the "kernel_task" in question was no longer taking up massive amounts of the CPU.
     At this point, I don't know what to do and I need help in restoring my Mac to original speeds. I may end up deleting my Boot Camp partition as a last measure if all else fails, seeing as I installed Windows in the first place for running a few programs and games that I can live without. However, I'd prefer to not have things come to that and fix things before deleting the Boot Camp Partition. I've heard that if everything runs normally in Safe Mode, then the issue is third-party software. Is this true?
     Any help would be greatly appreciated as I am writing this from the MacBook in question in Safe Mode because it's essentially useless in normal SSD operation.

1. This procedure is a diagnostic test. It changes nothing, for better or worse, and therefore will not, in itself, solve the problem. But with the aid of the test results, the solution may take a few minutes, instead of hours or days.
Don't be put off merely by the seeming complexity of these instructions. The process is much less complicated than the description. You do harder tasks with the computer all the time.
2. If you don't already have a current backup, back up all data before doing anything else. The backup is necessary on general principle, not because of anything in the test procedure. Backup is always a must, and when you're having any kind of trouble with the computer, you may be at higher than usual risk of losing data, whether you follow these instructions or not.
There are ways to back up a computer that isn't fully functional. Ask if you need guidance.
3. Below are instructions to run a UNIX shell script, a type of program. All it does is to collect information about the state of the computer. That information goes nowhere unless you choose to share it. However, you should be cautious about running any kind of program (not just a shell script) at the behest of a stranger. If you have doubts, search this site for other discussions in which this procedure has been followed without any report of ill effects. If you can't satisfy yourself that the instructions are safe, don't follow them. Ask for other options.
Here's a summary of what you need to do, if you choose to proceed:
Copy a line of text in this window to the Clipboard.
Paste into the window of another application.
Wait for the test to run. It usually takes a few minutes.
Paste the results, which will have been copied automatically, back into a reply on this page.
The sequence is: copy, paste, wait, paste again. You don't need to copy a second time. Details follow.
4. You may have started the computer in "safe" mode. Preferably, these steps should be taken in “normal” mode, under the conditions in which the problem is reproduced. If the system is now in safe mode and works well enough in normal mode to run the test, restart as usual. If you can only test in safe mode, do that.
5. If you have more than one user, and the one affected by the problem is not an administrator, then please run the test twice: once while logged in as the affected user, and once as an administrator. The results may be different. The user that is created automatically on a new computer when you start it for the first time is an administrator. If you can't log in as an administrator, test as the affected user. Most personal Macs have only one user, and in that case this section doesn’t apply. Don't log in as root.
6. The script is a single long line, all of which must be selected. You can accomplish this easily by triple-clicking anywhere in the line. The whole line will highlight, though you may not see all of it in the browser window, and you can then copy it. Copy the selected text to the Clipboard by pressing the key combination command-C.
7. Launch the built-in Terminal application in any of the following ways:
Enter the first few letters of its name into a Spotlight search. Select it in the results (it should be at the top.)
In the Finder, select Go ▹ Utilities from the menu bar, or press the key combination shift-command-U. The application is in the folder that opens.
Open LaunchPad. Click Utilities, then Terminal in the icon grid.
Click anywhere in the Terminal window and paste by pressing command-V. The text you pasted should vanish immediately. If it doesn't, press the return key.
8. If you see an error message in the Terminal window such as "Syntax error" or "Event not found," enter
exec bash
and press return. Then paste the script again.
9. If you're logged in as an administrator, you'll be prompted for your login password. Nothing will be displayed when you type it. You will not see the usual dots in place of typed characters. Make sure caps lock is off. Type carefully and then press return. You may get a one-time warning to be careful. If you make three failed attempts to enter the password, the test will run anyway, but it will produce less information. In most cases, the difference is not important. If you don't know the password, or if you prefer not to enter it, press the key combination control-C or just press return three times at the password prompt. Again, the script will still run.
If you're not logged in as an administrator, you won't be prompted for a password. The test will still run. It just won't do anything that requires administrator privileges.
10. The test may take a few minutes to run, depending on how many files you have and the speed of the computer. A computer that's abnormally slow may take longer to run the test. While it's running, there will be nothing in the Terminal window and no indication of progress. Wait for the line
[Process completed]
to appear. If you don't see it within half an hour or so, the test probably won't complete in a reasonable time. In that case, close the Terminal window and report the results. No harm will be done.
11. When the test is complete, quit Terminal. The results will have been copied to the Clipboard automatically. They are not shown in the Terminal window. Please don't copy anything from there. All you have to do is start a reply to this comment and then paste by pressing command-V again.
At the top of the results, there will be a line that begins with the words "Start Time." If you don't see that, but instead see a mass of gibberish, you didn't wait for the "Process completed" message to appear in the Terminal window. Please wait for it and try again.
If any private information, such as your name or email address, appears in the results, anonymize it before posting. Usually that won't be necessary.
12. When you post the results, you might see the message, "You have included content in your post that is not permitted." It means that the forum software has misidentified something in the post as a violation of the rules. If that happens, please post the test results on Pastebin, then post a link here to the page you created.

Bug report: Fn+Delete and Fn+Up/Dn keys don't work in SR MacBook Boot Camp

Fn + Delete does NOT do a forward delete in Boot Camp as its supposed to do on my Windows XP Home SP2 running installed on a new Santa Rosa 2.2GHz MacBook. Neither does Fn + Up/Down do PgUp/Dn, but Fn + Return DOES do Insert, so this isn't a bad Fn key.

Actually I didn't trash Boot Camp, it never populated in the tray after the install. Moreover, the thing i destroyed was the MacHDD from the desktop and from the Go Finder listing and want to get that puppy back
Boot Camp is running just that the F keys other than F3 are not functional nor is the Eject key . . PLUS . . as I say there is no tap to click, not two finger scrolling, and no 3 or 4 finger functions operational features.

IMac Drive Failures and Boot Camp - large install experience and question

We have a large 24" iMac install, purchased in August of '08, 49 machines spread across 6 offices. All run Windows Vista in Boot Camp as their primary (and mostly sole) operating mode - I will be happy to explain why after we get this cleared up, but that is not the point of this question.
We have had 11 hard drive failures, a rate of over 22% in one year. No machine has failed twice. The equipment was purchased in different groups so a bad lot is unlikely. I am aware that there is an HD failure issue with the iMac's but this seems to be extreme. Personally I've been building apples and pc's since my first apple kit, have a mac plus in a box somewhere, and am fond of these machines (as is the staff) but I've never seen a failure rate like this.
It has been suggested that it is the use of Boot Camp that is causing these failures. While I have seen viruses over the years that can lead to hardware failure I've never seen validated (or even simply non-malignant) software have the same effect.
Any thoughts on this? Could BC be the cause? Is this failure rate unusual? Have folks heard of similar cases? Thanks.

HT1461 Can one use boot camp to play computer games normally only found for PCs?

I have some older computer games, specifically Warhammer 40k rts games, that I woud still like to play and was curious if boot camp would allow me to play those on my mac? Also, if it is possible am I putting my computer at risk in any way? I'd like to play them but not so badly that I would be damaging my mac pro or shortening its lifespan. There dont appear to be any emulators out there currently so I'm checking here to see if anyone knows anything.

Windows on Intel Macs
There are presently several alternatives for running Windows on Intel Macs.
   1. Install the Apple Boot Camp software. Purchase Windows
         XP w/Service Pak2, Vista, or Windows 7. For Boot Camp
         4.0 and above you can only use Windows 7 or later. Follow
         instructions in the Boot Camp documentation on
         installation of Boot Camp, creating Driver CD, and
         installing Windows. Boot Camp enables you to boot the
         computer into OS X or Windows.
     2. Parallels Desktop for Mac and Windows XP, Vista Business,
         Vista Ultimate, or Windows 7. Parallels is software
         virtualization that enables running Windows concurrently
         with OS X.
     3. VM Fusion and Windows XP, Vista Business, Vista Ultimate,
         or Windows 7. VM Fusion is software virtualization that
         enables running Windows concurrently with OS X.
     4. CrossOver which enables running many Windows
         applications without having to install Windows. The

Note that VirtualBox, Parallels, and VM Fusion can also run other operating systems such as Linux, Unix, OS/2, Solaris, etc. There are performance differences between dual-boot systems and virtualization. The latter tend to be a little slower (not much) and do not provide the video performance of the dual-boot system. Boot Camp Crashed my computer Please help

I was trying to run boot camp so that I could install windows xp. Everything was going well until windows xp went in a circle. It would not load! I had to turn off the computer and restart it. I tried to hold down the alt/ option button to load the mac partition, but it doesn't exist. I then put in the original OS X cd and held down C. I tried to go into disk utility and format the drive but it says it's lock. I cannot do anything with my new lap top, please help

I did the same thing, i used bootcamp and did ntsf and set it to 120 and left the rest for mac partition and them durring the install of windows it said error please restart and the all i go was a black sceen with dos blinker, and if i put in osx dvd and use disk utility it all dimmed out and shows unformatted on the mac partitin and ntsf on the windows partition. apple didnt help at all, i went to the manhatten store this October 3 at 1030am and was treated like dirt, i even have warrenty and the manager pretty much told me "well why dont you go back to the fashion iland store". I will tell you one thing, apple makes really nice stuff thats really expensive but when it goes bad they just put all the expense on you and throw you to the curb.. i was told to try disk worrior 4, its suppost to recover and rebuild your drive so you dont have to reinstall the os and take a loss of data...

Magic Mouse with Windows 7 Boot Camp

I get that this discussion has been posted here and on other forums throughout the web. I still don't get it. My Magic Mouse works when I use Mac, but when I use Boot Camp Windows 7 Professional 64-bit I can't get it to install. The number 2 step people keep saying is "right click" on the magic mouse. Do I right click the actual mouse or the magic mouse icon? Also, how do I right click if the Mac I have only has the pad? I'm new to Mac's and tried clicking the right side of the pad and nothing different happens.
I'm really bad with computers so if someone can break it down as easy as possible I would much appreciate it.
