Barcodes for InDesign catalog

I have no experience with barcodes. I hope someone can help.
I'm going to be putting together a catalog in InDesign CS4 that contains hundreds of photos of food products. The client wants a barcode for each product, as shown in the example below. I found that Teacup software has BarcodeMaker, which Teacup says is fully scriptable. Would that be a good choice?
I also noticed that there is a free barcode maker courtesy of Marc Autret at http://marcautret.free.fr/geek/indd/eandesign/#S4. Is there an English version of the instructions on how to use it?
Is it possible to scan each product (the real product) to automatically generate the barcode for InDesign, or is there some other way to automate the process of adding barcodes to InDesign catalog?
I would welcome any suggestions to make adding barcodes to the catalog an efficient process.

I've used Bar Code Pro before, like a year ago. From what I remember, If you have you barcode numbers in a list/text file it can output eps files for you, or manually type the number and output one at a time. Here's the link, you might try the demo:

Not sure, but if you have a barcode scanner, you might be able to scan the number right into the manual input window and generate your barcode.

[Ann] QR Code for InDesign CS4 and up

Ever needed to create a QR code? There are literally hundreds of free QR code generators on the web, but they all have the same drawbacks:
1. They typically deliver a PNG, either 'click here to download', or you have to drag it somewhere yourself.
2. It's typically an RGB image, so the cautious designer will start up Photoshop to convert it to a monochrome image.
3. .. so you get a file to store somewhere ..
4. ... and after seeing four of them you cannot remember which QR code said what ...
5. .... and, you cannot use such site in a batched environment (well, maybe some people can by building a proper URL, call the website, wait for a response, etc. I bet it's difficult for your average scripter.)
So I had a go on converting one of the existing Javascript solutions -- Patrick Wied's, in case you're curious -- into a construction fit for InDesign. All you have to do is download the zip: http://www.jongware.com/binaries/jw_qrcode.zip -- unpack it, and save the file "QRCode.jsxbin" in your local User Script folder. It ought to be compatible with InDesign CS4 and upwards, for both Mac and Windows.
When it appears in your Script Panel, you can double-click to run and
1. with nothing selected, it prompts for text and error recovery settings, and will place a proper monochrome TIFF bitmap of (approximately) a useful dimension in the center of your current page.
2. with an empty rectangle selected, the new QR code will be placed inside it.
3. with some text selected, the text field will be pre-filled with this.
4. With a QR Code selected which you created earlier using this same tool, the text field will contain the original text, and the quality setting will be retrieved. You can cancel the dialog if you only wanted to know what it said, or change the text or quality.
5. You can call this script from another script to perform batch operations. It accepts two required arguments, and one optional, in this order: text, Error Correction level (1-4), and optionally a destination rectangle to place it in:

6. Since it's a monochrome bitmap TIFF with enough resolution (at its default size it's 200 dpi), you can use the swatches palette to change the white or black parts to another color, or even make one transparent.
7. It's just a small file, and so I decided to always have it automatically embed. That way you can never loose it. The image first has to be created in a temporary file (default location: (Temp)/qrcode.tiff, where (Temp) is your local Temporary Files folder). If this fails for some of you (there always seem to be overly prudent IT professionals who seem to despise users storing files willy-nilly), I'll have to think of something else.
Note: this version only supports plain text mode, not numeric, alphanumeric, or Kanji. Text is converted to UTF-8; for the most common purpose -- web pages -- it should work normally.

and so I advise to always check your generated code using a good QR Code reader.

It reads text frames starting with MECARD:, empties them and places QRcode rotated 15 degrees counterclockwise. Enjoy!

However, I should not have to wipe my computer clean everytime I need to do a CC update. HELP!

I am trying to install a trail for InDesign CC to finish a project soon. I downloaded Creative Cloud, the app is in my folder, but it won't open and when I try to download InDesign an error pops up saying Adobe is trying to install malware.

I just installed Creative Cloud in order to download a trial for InDesign. I have the app icon for CC, but it won't open. When it was in my toolbar (on a mac) it just sat there loading for about 15 minutes. I tried restarting it but it won't open at all now. I also tried downloading an InDesign trail and it won't open at all. When I click for it to download an error message pops up saying Adobe is trying to instal malware and asks me if I want to continue. When I say yes, it doesn't do anything. I have a brochure that needs to go to the client by 4pm today! EEK!

Sydneybling it does sound like your security software is interfering with the process of installing and utilizing your Adobe Creative applications. I would recommend that you try temporarily disabling your security software and utilizing the directions listed at Install and update apps - https://helpx.adobe.com/creative-cloud/help/install-apps.html to install InDesign CC.

Error while uploading schema for Master Catalog

I got the below error while uploading Schema with custom char for Master catalog;
"Error in row 11 of the CSV file" where as the 11th row is "DataType;INTEGER;integer;Integer Type"
in the csv file. Please suggest.

Hi,
Check txn-SLG1 in SRM system. There if you go to details, you will see exact description of error.
There are some dos and donts for csv files. for e.g you can't put : , / etc.symbols in the csv file.

Issue in setting Load balancing for Indesign Server CS5.5

Hi All,
I need to set up load balancing mechanism for Indesign Server CS5.5 on Windows Server 2008 R2(64 bit version).
I have dutifully following all steps defined in "WORKING WITH LOAD BALANCING AND QUEUEING FOR ADOBE INDESIGN CS5 SERVER.pdf"
After running Indesign server using batch file "startup-indesign-server-CORBA-4instances.bat" from "<ID_SDK>\samples\load-balancing-and-queuing-clients\indesignserver-startup-scripts", I get only one instance of Indesign Server running. How to run multiple instances of the INDD server ? Is running multiple instance has something to do with type of licensing ?
Now I run Clover.cmd script, I get this screen. I have no idea why its not working. Please help. Please let me know, if the scenario is not clear and more information is required.

OR
Extension Status is not consistent with extension set configuration."
The reason I opened the Extension Manager in the first place was to check to see if I had installed a third party extension. And I was presented with these warning symbols. I haven't added anything, I haven't done anything that would cause this.
Does anyone know how to fix this???
I am running OSX 10.9.5; Indesign CS6 version 8.0.2 And Adobe Extension Manager version 6.0.8.28.

Many InDesign pre-installed extensions (Those extensions you have immediately after InDesign installation) define dependency rules in their mxi files. Dependency means that one extension works well only if one or more other extensions are installed and enabled. If this condition is not met, the yellow triangle warning will be shown.
You can select an extension with warning, click "Advanced" tag page in the lower right panel. You will see "This extension has dependency on: <extension name> ...". Check whether every extensions listed here are available and enabled. If not, enable them. Repeat these steps for all the extensions which have warning.

This is a MacBook Pro 15" (Model number A1286) running Mavericks. Hard drive is fine but system software has been corrupted. I cannot simply restore from Time Machine as it will copy the corrupt system.
Will I have to find all of my serial numbers before I can launch any of the programs?

Used the 64bit version before CC 2014 as well so don't think that's the issue. Here is the text in the .mxi file if I have missed something:

Vendor part number for non catalog item in shopping cart?

I have a requirement to get the vendor part number field in shopping cart basic data for non catalog item. This field is available for catalog items, would it be possible to make the same field available for non catalog items as well?

You can create custom fields in Shopping cart uisng a BADI and can populate the information.
BBP_CUF_BADI can be used to create customer fields.
Please get discuss with your ABAP fellow for the creation of customer field.

Script exe for indesign cs2 is possible?

i wrote a javascript for indesign cs2 application, user move that to script folder and run it.
sometimes they edit the script for their own, it makes some problem.
is it possible to make the script in exe format.
by using Extend toolkit2 if i make it as binary format indesign cs3 accepts it, but the script not view in cs2 palette...
how to solve it?

the scripts for Indesign can be exported as a binary format using the ExtendScript toolKit..
This might prevent users from modifying them.
However this jsxbin format can only be used in CS3 and CS4.
Mayb u may consider upgrading to CS3 / CS4..
