Basic Question related to future purchase of iMac

Sorry for the stupid question but I just want to know if GarageBand is included as part of the software bundle included with purchasing a new iMac (Intel Duo Core). I was looking at a demo unit in the store and the iMac appeared to have it installed but the Apple.com store doesn't list it (unless I missed it).
Edit: Stupid me, should have posted this under the iMac forum. Perhaps one of the moderators can my this post there.

you should make sure you get a free upgrade later.
To date there have been no free upgrades. If you buy a Mac After the new version of iLife has been released and it doesn't come with the latest version, you have been able to get it for $20.
That's the way things have worked, there's no telling what will happen in the future, of course.

  • Basic Questions related EHPs for SEM

    Hi Guys,
I've some basic questions related to EHPs: -
    1. If we don't mean to implement any of the new functionalities does it make any sense to implement EHP? In other words do EHPs also have some general improments other than the functionalities which can be specifically activated?
    2. If we just activate a functionality and don't implement/ use it can there be any negative impact?
    3. In case of a pure technical upgrade from SEM 4.0 to SEM 6.0 which EHP would be recommended?
    4. Is there a quick way to find all relevant notes in EHPn which are related to corrections for EHPn-1?
    Thanks in advance,
    -SSC

    HI,
If you see some of my older posts I have had many issues with certain features of the EHP2 functionality but that doesn't mean I would recommned against it.
    BCS 6 EHPs 3 & 4  (BCS 6.03 / 6.04) - enhancement packs worth implementing?
BCS 6 EHP 2 (BCS 6.02) - activation of enhancement pack
My recommendation is to implement the EHPs but not necesarrily activate the functions (in SFW5) unless you need them - this means that you will only have to test once after EHP implementation and will have the ability to activate the other features as and when required (although testing is required after activation of course) whereas it might be difficult to persuade your client/basis team to implement EHP4 later if you don't do it now.
In the features of EHP2 (activate FIN_ACC_GROUP_CLOSE) it states that there is a general performance improvement - although I have yet to experience it! From OSS note 1171344 "The functionality which is available in EHP2 consists of...
... Performance improvements of status management, reporting and initial start-up of consolidation workbench and monitor.
Since activating FIN_ACC_GROUP_CLOSE I have had many OSS notes requiring application but i discovered that when the technical team implemented the EHPs (before i joined this client) they somehow forgot the latest SP (support packs) and didn't upgrade to the current level - so make sure that you get the right SPs too (see the links in Greg's link above) to avoid the many OSS notes.
As for your question - "is there a list of OSS notes to specific to EHP upgrades? - the answer is most definietly "NO" - I already asked OSS in desperation!
however, you can see the OSS notes that i have applied listed in the above link ( BCS 6 EHP 2 (BCS 6.02) - activation of enhancement pack )

  • A few questions regarding a future purchase

Hello everyone, Glad to be a part of this community.
Now my question to you all is will the 13 inch MBA with 4GB Be enough for me.
I currently own a Compaq Presario CQ56 laptop which only has 2GB or ram. It came with Windows 7 Home Premium but is now running Windows 8.1 Pro. (Huge regrets on updating it)
I use my laptop for Uni work, E.G all the Microsoft Office programs, Itunes, Spotify, And heavy web browsing daily. Which inlucdes lots of tabs being opened.
My laptop now chugs away when I run Itunes and Youtube at the same time. (Have owned it for three years)
So will the 4GB get the job done and last me 3-4 years?
Thank you all for your time.
    Jake

    First to memory.
MacBook Air has RAM soldered to the logic board, so buying up in RAM (which is usually only another $100) is a good choice in case you need it later.
    Second to running Windows.
You can load Windows on a MBA using either BootCamp or VirtualMachine software like Parallels or VirtualBox or VMWare Fusion.  But you would need to buy a new Windows copy because the installation you have on your system does not have all drivers like a full-install has.
Third to regretting switching to Mac
I chose a MAc laptop instead of Windows becasue while some programs that may be needed in are Windows-based Mac OSX is under the hood more stable (like Linux systems I had used prior to buying the Macbooc Pro).
Cheapest solution would be adding RAM and reinstalling Windows.  But Mac would still let you keep Windows programs.
If you are a "starving student", then you should weigh your finances well in this decisions.
    Just read your latest post.

    Hi experts,
I have invoice document header and line item data in an internal table(From RBKP and RSEG). From RSEG I have PO number(EBELN) and PO line item(EBELP).
I want to find out the corresponding WBS element, costcenter and GL account of the PO number and the PO line item.
Can anybody tell me which tables to select to fetch WBSelement(PS_PSP_PNR), glaccount(SAKNR) and costcenter(KOSTL).
In which table I will find the link between EBELN,EBELP with KOSTL,SAKNR and WBS element?

  • A question on a future purchase

Ok, right now i do not own a laptop, but i am thinking of buying the GP70 Leopard as a replacement for my old one that died several years ago (i've been stuck using a shared computer for a while now).
So far, everything i've seen about it seems to be right for me, the mix of performance and price together is just about perfect (i'm probably going to buy it from ibuypower.com unless there is a better online retailer that anyone could suggest).
All of this boils down to a question.  Is there any difference between the GP70 Leopard, and the GP70 Leopard Pro?
I've looked and looked at their website, and i can't see any difference.  I can't even find the Leopard Pro on MSi's own website to begin with.  At the moment, the only thing i can see is that the pro is more expensive, and if it is with no reason, i'd buy the base Leopard instead.  Currently, with the same options chosen, the Pro version is just 16 dollars more, so it isn't as if it would break the bank to choose that one over the base.
I just want to know if there is any difference in function or options.

I was also wondering what's the difference between these GP70. Graphic card is really important for playing games. The price and performance for GP70 is great as well. Thank you for the information.

  • Basic question related to the Thread.

    HI all,
I have simple question. This is the simple program for creating a Thread.
My question is, when we invoke the start() method hos does the JVM knows to invoke run method?
why not other method / s?
I am new to the Thread progamming. Please explain it.
    Thanks,
    Rahul.
    public class HelloRunnable implements Runnable {
    public void run() {
    System.out.println("Hello from a thread!");
    public static void main(String args[]) {
    (new Thread(new HelloRunnable())).start();
    }

My question is, when we invoke the start() method hos does the JVM knows to invoke run method? The library for Thread calls the run() method of Thread, this calls the run() of the Runnable. (See the code and javadocs for Thread)
why not other method / s?Because thats what was chosen as the logical method to call.

There are many ways of doing it, also depending on the view component you're using. Check out the documentation of the Observer library, section "Reducing View Behaviour" to understand one approach.

  • Basic questions about Bigdata, NOSQL and Hadoop

    Hi,
I've basic questions related to Bigdata. (I've googled it but still wants to confirm with experts)
Please correct me if I am wrong on below.
    1) As far as I know big data is collection of unstructured data. Even we can store relational data as well.
    2) NOSQL is an Oracle product to handle bigdata (un structured data and relational data as well)
    3) Hadoop is the only one frame work which is avilable in market to manage the bigdata.
What are the other database systems we have in the market to manage the bigdata.
    Cheers,
    Suri

    Hi Suri,
    1)  "Big Data" does not have a crystal clear, black and white definition.
It is generally characterized as being the processing and management of an amount and type of data that makes a specific workload on that data slow and/or expensive.
Most commonly, Big Data involves processing and management of unstructured data of large volume and the typical technology used to store/process it is Hadoop, However, on occasion a NoSQL database will also deal with unstructured data.
Big Data is also seen often in the form of simple, semi-structured data of both large volume and/or large velocity and the typical technology used to store/process it is a NoSQL database.  However, on occasion Hadoop will also deal with semi-structured data of large volume.
In some cases, Big Data is seen in the form of highly connected data that will be manipulated by advanced algorithms that will need to touch a lot of the data and the typical technology used to store/process it is a Graph type of NoSQL database.
    2)  NoSQL is a category of database technologies most often dealing with the issues as outlined in bullet 2 above.   The Oracle NoSQL Database is oracle's product in the NoSQL category of database technologies.   It does NOT store relational data.   When using NoSQL relations between the data must be managed within the application code.
    3)  Hadoop and NoSQL booth manage Big Data, but different aspects as discussed in (1) above.   Hadoop is a batch based, slow processing data technology, but the "slow" is relative because it can process very large amounts of data, so minutes is commonly seen as fast.   NoSQL is a near real-time data processing technology and typically deals with Big Data where access times are in the single digit millisecond range.
    Hope this helps,
    -Robert

  • Three pretty basic questions--27" iMac, Snow Leopard

New 27" iMac. Three (ridiculously basic) questions:
    1) How do I take my old 24" iMac wireless keyboard and pair it with my new computer? I really despise this little keyboard that came with the current computer.
    2) I default to Preview and Text Edit when I want to use Adobe Acrobat and Word. How do I change this?
    3) When I sync my iPhone it does not download the iPhone photos to iPhoto. I see the device in iPhoto. How do I download my photos into iPhoto so I have them resident on my computer and can open and manipulate in Photoshop?

*Start your 24" iMac, click the Bluetooth icon in the menu bar at the top (it shows the clock, wifi, audio level, etc), then select the Keyboard and then disconnect.*
*Also from that bluetooth menu, goto 'Open Bluetooth Preferences' and you should see the keyboard there as well. There is a little 'minus' sign in the lower left of that window. Select the Keyboard and press the minus sign and it should remove the Keyboard from that iMac.*
*On your new iMac, make it discoverable (the device and the new Mac), and you should be able to pair it from there.*
    2) I default to Preview and Text Edit when I want to use Adobe Acrobat and Word. How do I change this?
    *Answered in previous posts.*
    3) When I sync my iPhone it does not download the iPhone photos to iPhoto. I see the device in iPhoto. How do I download my photos into iPhoto so I have them resident on my computer and can open and manipulate in Photoshop?
*Shot in the dark. So open up iTunes with your iPhone connected/plugged into your Mac.*
*on the left side of iTunes where you see your iPhone, click on the iPhone icon. And on the window next to left bar you should see a row of tabs at the top and at the far right you should see a tab for Photos.*
*Click on that tab and select Sync photos.*
*That should allow you to sync your photos from your iphone to your iphoto library*
    hope that helps

    Hello,
R/3 needs always a purchasing group to create the PO.
    1. Creating PO is Purchasing Group is mantatory.
    Yes
    2. Classic Scenario - If i create Shopping Cart for local Purchasing group. PO can create without error in backend(R/3).
I think that you need the purchasing group.
Check crmd_orderadm_h table and BBP_PD transaction
    3. Extended Classic Scenario - If i create Shopping Cart for local Purchasing group. PO Copy can create without error in backend(R/3).
I have not experience in Extended Classic Scenario. I know that PO can not be canges in R/3.
Keep in mind that for R/3 the purchasing group is a mandatory field.

  • Purchasing new iMac 04/22/09 Questions

I want to purchase an iMac 24” this weekend but I am concerned about the issues with the video cards freezing the computer. Should I not buy one at all or purchase one with the NVIDIA GeForce 130 512MB vs the ATI Redeon HD 4850 512 MB. Is this a bug or hardware issue?
If you can help me with an honest answer I would really appreciate it.

In that case I would recommend getting the base 24" iMac either the 2.66 or 2.93 machines. Your needs aren't graphics intensive so you would not see any improvements by upgrading the graphics card. Another option... Apple is selling the previous generation 2.8 machines with a very good discount, go to Apple.com, Store, Clearance and you will see it. For your needs this would be a great alternative. I don't know if retail stores have these in stock, if not you would need to purchase directly from Apple online. For your music and movies I would store these on an external drive rather than using up precious space on your internal drive. External drives are inexpensive and provide more flexibility.

  • Basic questions from new iMac owner

What exactly should I buy for Time Machine backups (I have 27 inch iMac with 8 gb memory).  Also can I migrate data directly to my iMac from my Dell All-in-One, including Itunes music library?  What type of connector best to use?

You should buy an external disk that uses the usb3 interface (assuming your iMac is new).  Use the disk first with your Dell.  Format it as NTFS if required, put your itunes folder on it, put your documents folder on it, put your pictures folder on it, .....basically get your stuff on the drive.
Move the disk to the mac.  Now, copy the iTunes folder in the Music folder.  Place everything inside the documents folder inside the iMac's documents folder, put the pictures folder inside your iMac's pictures folder, ...basically move your stuff to the appropreiate iMac folder.
Now start up iTunes and it will see the old library and all will be fine.  If any of your album, apps, movie artwork looks weird, simply close iTunes go into the cache folder inside the iTunes folder and delete the old cache files. Restart iTunes and the artwork will look OK.
You can also open iPhoto and import all the photos from your old picture folder.
Finally when you are happy that all your stuff is in the right place.  Reformat the drive as hfs journaled, name the drive Backup, and point time machine to it from system preferences.  You can format the drive using disk utilitiy which is inside your applications/utility folder.
It's really not that hard to convert.  Don't worry about applications you had on the Dell.  They won't work.  You just need your data files.  Data is data so all will be well.
    Good luck

  • Purchasing Intel iMac Advice

I have a few questions that I hope someone can answer.
    1. Is 2.93GHz Quad-Core Intel Core i7 faster than a 2.8GHz Quad-Core Intel Core i5? I might want to dabble in Adobe Photoshop and Premiere work.
    2. Has anyone purchase the iMac with the internal 2TB Serial ATA Drive and 256GB Solid State Drive combo?
And what brand/model of drives are in the iMac?
    3. Is it better or safer to get an internal 1TB or 2TB Serial ATA Drive? I understand that the bus speed is quicker than attaching an FW/USB external drive. I just don't know how fast I will fill up the internal drive without resorting to using an external.
    4. Is a wireless keyboard safe? I have been using a USB keyboard for quite sometime. If feel weird about typing sensitive information (e.g. bank stuff, passwords, etc.). Is it possible for someone to "eavesdrop"?

    1. I am not sure what you mean by future proofing in regards to which Intel core to use. Would the i7 be faster than the i5?
By future proofing I mean if you want to expand your needs in the future you will have a more robust computer with the i7. Yes the i7 is faster but for 95% of day to day uses you will never see that performance increase. Only a few applications are available today that do and from what you've told us of your needs you probably will not see much (if any) increase in performance with the i7.
    2. I heard that the boot-time and overall performance is much faster if the OS is running on the solid state drives. I believe Apple said this is the normal configuration that they would ship. What I am wondering is...
SSD performance is ONLY faster for starting the computer (really a mute point because Macs should be left on 24/7) and for launching applications and files stored on the SSD. Other than that there isn't any performance increase. For day to day use (web surfing, email, basic tasks) SSD's performance is of no consequence.
    a. Can I later on (not sure why but just in case), designate the ATA drive as the boot instead of the SSD?
    Sure!
    b. I try to clear the browser cache, logs, preference files and purge e-mails and attachments on a regular basis. But for the numerous files that Mac OS X normally generates (which adds up quickly), is a 256 GB SSD larger enough?
Probably just store the OS, your apps and critical files on it and 256GB should be PLENTY of space.
My computer uses only 60GB of it's internal storage because I store most of my media files (music, photos and movies) on external HDs. Even though my computer has a relatively small HD (320GB) I still have a LOT of available space.
    c. What kind of general speed increase are we looking at when using a SSD drive as the boot?
It would be dramatic. It could be 15-20 seconds on a SSD vs. 90 seconds on a HD. However Apple recommends in the owners manual to leave the computer on and let it sleep when not in use. The recommend turning it off when you're going to be away for a few days. You can find the manuals on Apple's web site and I believe that statement is on page 15. That's why I said earlier start up times with a SSD is really a mute point, if you follow the manual and use your computer daily you're probably only re-starting once every month or so!
    d. Also, if I wanted to install Windows 7, 256 GB SSD probably would not give me a nice amount of wiggle room, co?
You could do that, why do you want to install Windows 7 though and how do you intend to install it? What I mean by that do you want to use Boot Camp or Virtualization software like Parallels or Fusion? IMHO the only reason to load Win 7 is if you have apps that aren't available on OS X.
    e. Is SSD drive upgradeable or is it permanently part of the motherboard?
The SSD is not part of the motherboard (btw Mac's don't have motherboards, they're call main logic boards ). The only user upgradeable parts on iMacs is really the RAM. Down the road if you want to upgrade the SSD it's highly recommended to take it to a professional to do so.
    3. I thought 1TB internal would be a safer bet if I decide not to go the SSD route. And potentially less data to lose if the ATA drive fails. But I guess if I ever wanted to upgrade to a 2 TB, it is technically not a DIY to the Apple warranty and complexities of even DIY. But I feel like a 2TB would be better...
    4. Wireless keyboard. I was actually referring to using it at home and not for the actual purchasing of the computer. I am just wondering about key loggers and the potential for someone else to somehow intercept the bluetooth signals.
Mac's are incredibly secure, you don't have to worry about that at all.
